When Peter Schweizer uncovered evidence of insider trading by Republican chairman of the House Financial Services Committee Spencer Bachus (R-AL), and 60 Minutes reported on it, I was the first person to call for Rep. Bachus to resign. That was November 14, 2011. Now, with news that the Office...

"To me, consensus seems to be: the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values, and policies in search of something in which no one believes, but to which no one objects; the process of avoiding the very issues that need to be solved, merely because you cannot get agreement on the way ahead. What great cause would have been fought and won under the banner ‘I stand for consensus’?"
She really is a tigress among hamsters!

“A world without nuclear weapons would be less stable and more dangerous for all of us.” MT
You should use This National Review cover as the follow-up to that Time cover.
What great cause?
A: The American Psychiatric Association
I hope you realize, Q, that your unhappiness with the current state of affairs is merely due to a chemical imbalance in your brain. If not treated properly, this imbalance will act as an anchor, pulling you down. You'll never be normal until you agree to submit yourself and your children to the myriad of treatments our scientists have made available to properly rotate and balance your brain so that the hard knocks you might otherwise suffer in life will be forever smoothed over, providing you with a comfortable normalcy that everyone has the right to enjoy.
Please note that, with your support of Obama's Healthcare initiative, your children will NEVER suffer from the horrible "personality disorders" that often crop up in childhood and adolescence as they struggle to cope with life in their formative years. We can – no, let me restate, we will rely on feedback from public school counselors to help you to find a drug to ease their pain. This is much too important a matter to be left to the whims of parents. I'm certain you'll come to understand and better appreciate our much more productive and efficient methods of instilling normalcy in America's youth. Clinical studies have shown that medication is the only answer, and any "bad parents" attempting to refuse their child the treatment they both need and deserve will be dealt with in the most… caring, thoughtful, loving manner that only we, in our infinite knowledge of the inner workings of the human brain, can provide.
Thank you for taking the time to acquiesce to our superior intellect.
God is a symptom. We are the cure.
AHHH Thatcher…England's Reagan
The APA bit above was tongue-in-cheek. Oh well…
Margaret Thatcher stood shoulder to shoulder with Ronald Reagan, and changed the world. She never blinked, never backed down. Speaking of blinking and backing down, I can't help but notice at the upper right hand corner of the cover, there is Ol' Drunken Teddy. The times, they are a changin'………..
What's important is that Thatcher came before Reagan and it looks like the Tories are about to win control of the UK again. So conditions today are very similar to those in the 1970s in many ways and I've been saying that for a while.
APA
I sincerely hope you are indulging in sarcasm —if not you are one delusional puppy.
I get it. Actually pretty well done, I thought.
For those who fail to get it, it can be summed up (sort of) with "Just take a pill."
Cowboy Logic
Yeah–and 'Carter says Baloney', today it would read 'Carter says Racist'.
That was a great cover. Maybe that one should have been posted on Big Hollywood along with this one here. Can't forget our roots, you know.
On a sunny summer day, at a beachfront bar in St. Augustine, Florida, I got a glimpse of what Margaret Thatcher meant to England. I, destined to deploy to Iraq with the army in months, an older gentleman who was a door gunner in a HUEY in Vietnam, and a man in between who was a Royal Marine who served in the Faulklands, passed the time over a beer. They offered their advice to me, and wished me well. When the talk turned to politics, we all reminisced about Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher. The Royal Marine said in his mellow English accent, "She put the Great in Great Britain, my friend." Enough said.
Momma's little helpers, you know. ROFL. Good one, APA. (That would be American Psychiatric Association, for the acronymically impaired.)
Since this is an open thread, I'll break the stream a little. Hope the Iron Lady understands.
Am I the only one who thinks this White House tantrum about Fox isn't about Fox at all? I think they realize they won't change Fox, and most Fox viewers are beyond their reach as well. What I think it about is all the rest of the MSM. A now not-so-subtle message that they too could get the Fox treatment if they dare to utter anything but the party or Party line. If any of their lapdogs try to go sniffing up some other tree, they will have their food bowl yanked.
That CNBC shill is probably worried. I'm sure he thinks he is so "special" because he got an interview. So he lets snipes at his colleague, Rick Santelli, go unchallenged. Bet he'd love to get rid of the few over there who actually see the world clearly. But he does his best to show HE is on board.
"She put the Great in Great Britain, my friend."
WoW!
Along those same lines, if she did that (and she did), then comparably, Ronald Reagan put the US, in U.S. again.
After the debacle of the Peanut Farmer Carter, America's morale was lower than whale dung. Regan put the spring in our step again, and made US proud.
No, let me be clear – You WILL take the pill. The time for debate is over!
"I owe nothing to Women's Lib"…..Margaret Thatcher
Compare and contrast Thatcher to the left's whiney victim harpies that are so instrumental in implementing the Nanny State here. Margaret Thatcher had class, gravitas and courage. Britain was a financial shambles when she entered the picture and her Labour detractors never let up. She was a mental heavyweight.
Contrasting Thatcher to the partisan frivolousness of a Nancy Pelosi or a Barbara Boxer, scratch the surface and there is nothing of enduring substance with those women, says it all. They own nothing that they can call their own. Darn right, Margaret, you never saw yourself a gender victim nor gamed your way through life.
No,sorry,I have no respect for ol’ Maggie….just ask her victims in Northern Ireland.
Excellent points!
Lady Thatcher had more balls than most men.
For those subversives who have trouble swallowing their medicine, the Obama Administration is working on a patch that will work just as well.
H1N1 nasal spray anyone? Nothing like an airborne vaccine to work its magic.
I think it is a mini-tantrum about Fox as well as another avenue of distraction from the administration's real work.
Sometime there are winners, sometimes there are loosers. It only matters where one is standing, when they draw the line.
Think of Reagan and Thatcher teaming up to keep the world free…. Then think of Obama and Brown…..
It's been a long fall!
WOW. TIME Magazine actually supported Conservatism at one point?
Nasal spray good. We know how Barry likes putting stuff up the nose.
THX 1138.
Interesting.
Rupert Murdoch is interested in buying NBC. This should make the White House gasp………..

No. They merely had to acknowledge its existence.
Her most famous quote that stikes a note big time today: "The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money".
I love and revere Iron Maggie! She could be tough and still be a lady. Happy Birthday, Prime Minister Thatcher!

Is there a new Thatcher and a new Reagan out there some where? We need some strong leadership in the free world to beat the strong terrorists!
Open Thread?
Who did the Stimulus Package benefit the most? UNIONS! Imagine that……….

Pill #1 – numb the children's minds.
Pill #2 – Abort the parents (they have no say anyway)
ARRRGGGHHH…Having a horrible Nurse Ratched flashback!!
We need a new Iron lady.
Now THAT'S a role model. Bravo Lady Thatcher!
You should use this National Review cover as the follow-up to that Time cover.
And the kneecapping, pub bombing IRA were victimless? Please, give us a break. They were no different than today's terriorists.
I dont suppose you would want to be president of the US, Mrs. Thatcher….especially now. We need some genuine conservatism right now
Let's clarify this, personality disorders aren't assigned until a client is age 18. And "chemical imbalance in your brain" is a nice bogus excuse for every manner of deviant behavior that responsible people have control over, please don't trash psych principles in making your point, otherwise, I agree with your premise that Obamacare is an abomination.
"God is a symptom. We are the cure."…..extends narcissism to its terminal end. Basically there is nothing you are a cure for.
RU486 would solve the matter entirely.
Barry would approve.
Now Cowboy, how could you confuse "blinking and backing down" with "Hicking and Falling down"…
As a country/world, we have been fortunate to have had great leaders periodically emerge in our history and save us from ourselves. They are only here ever so briefly and then hand a better world back over to us — hoping we have learned from their bravery and leadership example.
We were blessed to have a Thatcher, a Reagan, Pope John Paul, and others of that era, emerge from the masses to set the world back in a safe, common sense, and freedom focused direction.
As humans feel safe from the checks and balances created, they forget about the need to be "ever vigilant." New leaders go about; dismantling all the checks and balances, re-engineering society counter to our founding, creating higher taxes, trampling the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, disparaging the middle-class, and pursuing anti-Americanism/anti-democracy/anti capitalism goals, fraternizing with murderous tyrants who then become pop culture icons, etc….sound familiar?
We can only hope that the master plan for our world includes that yet another Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, et al, are ready to emerge and once again set the world back on course. . .maybe we will remember their lessons longer — this time.
God Bless you Margaret Thatcher and thank you.
Considering his voting record…I'd say you're right.
The Argentine Generals made a grave mistake, underestimating they New PM of Great Britian, The not only did she send the Royal Navy to the South Atlantic, that action did something more important, It Saved the Royal Navy. It also validated the U.S, Navy choice of the Nimitz Class Carriers rather than the smaller Sea control carriers some wanted to go with. The Royal Navy lost more ships then they should have because as good as the Harrier is, the airplane didn't have the legs needed to attack land bases in Argentina. A Nimitz class carrier would have provided the striking power in the form of A-6B's F-14's and Radar Picket Hawkeye's, early waning to deal with the Argentine Airforce 200 miles out rather than right on top of them that was the case. But they did have Submarines , and those submarines did the thing that Subs do. And the whole contest turned on a Sub and a crew of just 115 men.
