WorldNetDaily: Cambridge Cancels Michael Savage Debate

Just one week before Michael Savage was scheduled to debate via video link at the Cambridge Union in England, the co-presidents of the two-century-old society informed the top-rated radio host they have canceled the event.
As WND reported, the invitation from the Cambridge Union Society for the Oct. 15 debate was issued in July after Savage was banned from entering the United Kingdom by Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s government along with Muslim extremists and leaders of hate groups.
In an e-mail today to Savage producer Beowulf Rochlen, Cambridge Union leaders Julien Domercq and Jonathan Laurence wrote, “It is with great regret to inform you of the difficult decision we have taken to cancel the event.”
Domercq and Laurence pointed to problems with the cost and feasibility of setting up the necessary video link, but they also cited “legal issues.”
“We have reconsulted with our counsel, and been informed that there are numerous legal issues with Dr Savage speaking here,” they wrote, “and so because of all of the technical, financial and legal problems involved, we have come to the reluctant conclusion that the event cannot proceed.”

How predictable.
Sharia law wouldn't allow Dr. Savage from expressing something counter to their preachings without offending them, therefore, the event had to be canceled.
Maybe Dr. Savage should counter with them about him hosting the event and paying the price of the hook-up and since he would be hosting it, there wouldn't be any questions about the legality of the content.
It is amazing to me how that distinguished (ha!) university gained a reputation as worth a damn. Any U.S. vocational school or community college would give your kid a better education than they'd receive from ANY university in the United Queendom.
Which Czar was involved with the decision? Meow.

The "legal issues" excuse is always used to keep from doing things without having to admit to why. The cost and feasibility excuse is rather lame as well.

So, the Brits just aren't that 'into' debate anymore? For all Britain's vaunted contributions to literature, government and the sciences, these modern British intellectuals' devotion to reason and knowledge appears to be quite anemic and easily discouraged by political correctness. Of course, here in America, we have our First Arugula Consumer to thank for colluding with the Egyptians and the 57 states of the OIC in a U.N. resolution to give cover for the evils of Islamic fundamentalists. I try quite frequently not to listen to the news or read any newspapers these days because it seems the NWO is trying to drive us like lemmings off a cliff with incessant demands for health care control, banking control, surveillance on the grid 24/7, and , the most annoying intrusion of all, control of one's thoughts and speech. Yet, everytime I return to talk radio, Dr. Savage, is there preaching sanity against the insanity of political correctness. As long as he is willing to speak for all of us, we have a champion in this fight for civilization. Since the cowards caved in an ran from their own debate, I would say Dr. Savage wins again!
I hope that the good Brits who believe is freedom of speech will rise up and raise some hell about this!

I listen to Savage every now and then and though he does make some good points overall I consider him to be extremely egotistical, abrasive, elitist, alienating and just downright rude towards others. Despite my opinion of him, how he is being treated by the UK is wrong and it is a ominous sign of the eventual destruction of freedom in one of the great civilizations of modern history.

The Brits Govt. must have issued a D notice (I thinks it's called a D Notice). This is where the Govt. can stop anything from being reported by the press without question. They have used it a few times. I follow the British press quite a bit as I travel there for work from time to time and this Savage issue gets almost no press over there. Which makes me wonder again: Why in the hell would they even bother to put him on the banned list when just about every Brit over there hasn't even heard of him. I am most def not a birther, truther or any conpiracy nut but it is beginning to look like somebody over here in the US provided his name when the list was being assembled.

The Brits, 80 or so years ago would never cut and run from a fight/debate. Especially a debate re freedom of speech. Dr Savage would have cleaned the Cambridge Clock.

That being said, Savage undermines his own credibility with his conspiracy rants, which, not so coincidentally, include FoxNews' parent organizations. Savage is just too egocentric. He wants to the the creme de la creme; he can't stand the idea that working with others toward a common goal might be a better way to proceed.
Still, Fox should cover the story.
Savage shot his wad years back on MSNBC – as I'm sure you're aware – so he's tainted goods. But it would be interesting to see. Also, Savage has done so much bashing of Fox News and its celebrities on his radio show that I'm sure they see him as persona non grata.
To your point about Kirsten Powers, I believe there is an untapped talent that I think Fox should Key in on. I wrote to Fox News once we learned of Colmes leaving and suggested that he be replaced with Powers.

Good. Cambridge maintained their integrity by cancelling that goon. Michael Savage is a hate-monger. His schtick is ugly, ignorant, and crude. Instead of deriding Glenn Beck, right-wingers should be shunning Michael Savage. Beck's show is great; I try never to miss it. But I would go out of my way to avoid Michael Savage; no educated, literate, thinking person would listen to him. I Love biggovernment and Breitbart.
Interesting comment. While I tend to agree with you on several points, I believe Savage is just as relevant as the rest of them, and further, he adds an interesting insight. Sometimes it is all in the delivery. He has just as much right to speak as Keith Olberman, and is more entertaining.
And to think that this is teh Cambridge Union that prides itself in inviting any outspoken or abberrant figure necessary to 'challenge the world view' of the audience, even if it causes offense. Their numbingly repetative statements of the defense of this practice for the sake of free speech has a long history. It was always accomplanied by what is now called the 'anti-PC herd mentality' argument.
Now they seem to think that entertaining any intellectual that doesn't abide the mushy middle of the mushy middle-minded is somehow now too challenging to their precious delusions about the world.
However, this is typically European – where the population largely has a vivid fear of people genuinely disagreeing with one another. The ideal intellectual debate is one where barbs are traded, but everyone actually agrees with one another, consigning the genuine purpose of debate to a kind of empty pedantry of believing something about ones' open-mindedness that doesn't really exist.
When people are going to realize that our own Western sensibilities are killing us in the face of Islamism and radical Marxism?

It is obvious that elements within Gordon Brown's government didn't want Savage to cite their internal emails about using Savage to provide balance in their list of individuals banned from Great Britain. Not to mention the fact that he would totally blow their ideology out of the water. I hate this for anyone who is interested in honest debate. Who better to represent the opposition to a debate on political correctness? Michael Savage would have had a field day.

This is in response to Michael Savage wondering why Fox Cable doesn't report about Britain banning him and Cambridge canceling the debate. It is as simple as night and day Dr. Savage. Competition. To Fox you are the competition. They are not about to give another talk show publicity when they have to look out for their own. You are competition for Hannity, Beck, O'reilly, and other shows they have. It is that simple. Personally, I agree with you on things. You have guts for calling it what it is. I respect that. But you understand, as do others, the U.S. has been femitized for decades by the media and special interest.
Dr. Savage, most Americans are little cry babies, whiners, and sissies. And weak. And this is coming from a guy. Again, this is a no brainer. And to prove it, today you have more deviants and whack jobs now than ever before. They started feminizing America in the late 70's or early to mid 80's, and now it is rampid. You can't say this.
