Milbank: The Forest, the Trees and ACORN
by PubliusThe Washington Post’s Dana Milbank weighs in on Bertha Lewis’ theatrical show at the National Press Club:
Bertha Lewis, the head of ACORN, is one tough nut.
She came to the National Press Club on Tuesday, ostensibly to report on the community group’s “internal probe” into the ACORN workers who were caught on tape advising people posing as a pimp and a prostitute. But Lewis made it clear that, far from apologizing, she was on a “set-the-record-straight tour” — and a tour de force it was.
The internal review by ACORN’s board, disclosed this week by the Louisiana attorney general, that $5 million had been embezzled from the group rather than the $1 million previously alleged? “This is speculation, completely false and not based on any documentation or any audit or anything other than two disgruntled former board members,” Lewis reported.
Accusations of voter fraud after ACORN workers filled out voter registrations for Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys? “An utter fabrication and a work of fiction that was created by the people who wrote it.”
The report by Republicans on the Senate Finance Committee that ACORN created a “shell game that funneled charitable funds to for-profit organizations”? “Another stretch of allegations of how to pound on ACORN. . . . It’s just false.”
And, of course, the secretly recorded videos of ACORN workers providing help to people claiming they wished to set up an underage-prostitution business? “These highly edited tapes,” Lewis said, “don’t tell the whole story.” ACORN’s accusers “have to stoop to break the law in order to create something sensational,” she added.
In creativity, the ACORN boss’s denials were matched only by her assignments of blame. She blamed her predecessor: “I don’t think it’s fair to judge me, as I’m cleaning up a previous administration.” She blamed the powerful: “We’ve seen this play before, whether it was the civil rights movement or whatever, when you organize poor people to have real power, what you do is often turned against you.” And most of all, she blamed Republicans: “The RNC . . . because we’ve been inflated as the boogeyman, raises almost $2 million a day, every day, and this form of modern-day ACORN McCarthyism has got to stop.”
Assigned only a minor role in this orgy of blame were ACORN and Lewis herself. “My biggest weakness is a certain naivete about folks coming after you,” she said in a moment of self-interested introspection. “I guess maybe others might have known and could have set up some other barriers and could’ve been better with media and PR.”
Read the whole story here. But, first savor this quote. Perhaps one of the best Big Media comments during this breaking saga:
But Lewis, in playing the victim, is her own worst enemy. Forget the film of the pimp and prostitute: Watching a film of Lewis’s performance yesterday would probably be enough to cause lawmakers to cut off ACORN’s federal funding.

This woman is a joke. Only a joke organization like ACORN would have a clown like her as CEO. I don't think she could balance her own checkbook. In any event, I'm sure she's only a figure head used to play the race card.
When are the rest of the ACORN undercover videos coming out? We haven't had any for weeks now.
I'm with hannajo! When ARE they coming out? I was under the impression there were more and I'd think BG would release another by now to the ball rolling.
I Tried to follow the link to the WaPo, but it says the address doesn't exist…going to look directly…
But I agree, Ms. Lewis' perfomaces to date have been the greatest argument against funding ACORN. She's a first class buffoon and I suspect that sooner, rather than later, she'll be dumped by someone who is more photogenic/well spoken.
That performance is worthy of a SNL skit. BTW, there have been no charges filed in Maryland. If it were so obviously illegal, wouldn't there be charges by now?
Videos! We want more videos!
No Mrs Lewis. ACORN’s accusers “have to stoop to break the law in order to" learn the truth. Furthermore that have to "stoop to break the law in order to" provide indisputable evidence.
What kind of villains could right a law that prevents the video taping of situations that in and of themselves have legal repercussions? Sure we all agree that PERSONAL privacy is an issue and perhaps those people who lost their jobs have legal grounds to sue but no company or organization should ever be insulated from public scrutiny. The laws should be struck down or amended so as ONLY to protect personal privacy and not to protect organizations sponsored by corrupt political parties or their membership.
Now I believe it will become even more ugly as accusations are floated that ACORN has been throwing away registrations for everyone except those who sought to register with parties other than the Democratic Party.
Here's where I found it:

Yes…………………MORE VIDEOS, NOW !
Have Hannah,James, and Andrew been served papers ? The threat has been hanging out there for a while now, but nobody listed above, has said that they ARE being sued and/or investigated.
Ms. Lewis certainly appears inept.
"But Lewis, in playing the victim, is her own worst enemy. Forget the film of the pimp and prostitute: Watching a film of Lewis’s performance yesterday would probably be enough to cause lawmakers to cut off ACORN’s federal funding."
She certainly does not exude confidence, or appear capable of handling multi-millions of taxpayer dollars.
I'm anxious to see additional videos, too, but would guess that's held up by the lawsuit filed by ACORN against O'Keefe, Giles and Breitbart (which included allegations of emotional harm caused to employees that ACORN fired — now, THAT'S funny!).
This suit was discussed on Fox during interviews of the defendants and at least one lawyer representing Giles. The lawyers, no doubt, have advised against releasing other videos until after the dust settles.

Just think, in the ObamaCare world, when you awake in your hospital bed after Fwee Surgery, Acorn will be by your side and Nurse Lewis will be taking care of you. Who needs reparations when sweet revenge will do?
Sort of reminds me of Baghdad Bob " There are no American troops in Baghdad " .

Keep pressing your reps to hold hearings and support investigations of ACORN. Keep Bertha and crew on TV in their self-destruct mode. More people will turn on ACORN and their stories will no doubt be incredible. Keep the pressure on!
"The moderator asked whether the misdeeds that were uncovered justified the secret taping. "Nothing trumps breaking the law — nothing! Nothing!" Lewis responded."
Unbelievable. This is the woman who has personally led illegal break-ins of foreclosed homes… not to mention the illegalities ACORN doesn't admit to.
And O'Keefe didn't break the law, anyway.

Furthermore, several other conditions can affect male infertility. It has been shown that some medications such as cimetidine, spironolactone, sulfasalazine and nitrofurantoin affect male fertility. Illicit drug use, excessive consumption of alcohol, history of exposure to occupational and environmental toxins, excessive heat and/or radiation could all negatively affect male fertility. The bottom line is that infertility is a problem that equally affects both males and females, heaping the blame on the female sex only leaves the problem half solved. The male reproductive system is as vulnerable to anomalies as the female’s. A comprehensive understanding of male fertility problems could be of great help to any couple still having problems with conception.
