Financial Times: Breitbart Shapes Conservative Agenda
by PubliusFrom today’s Financial Times:
When Andrew Breitbart first saw video footage of workers from Acorn, a community activist group, telling two undercover reporters how to set up a brothel and avoid paying taxes he knew he had a big scoop on his hands.
The conservative commentator also knew the series of undercover videos, which caused an outcry when he released them last month on his BigGovernment website, would be dismissed by what he calls the “mainstream media”.
“The mainstream media are not story driven, they are ideology driven,” he says in an interview with the Financial Times. “They are universally left of centre and they protect their own . . . their raison d’être is to put pressure on anyone that would dare challenge their aggressive ideology.”
The media outlets criticised by Mr Breitbart, which include CNN and the New York Times, reject accusations of bias. However, Mr Breitbart argues that liberal bias is inherent and admits to pursuing his own ideological aims through his websites. His policy has been rewarded with plenty of online traffic: September brought almost 11m unique users to his sites and 35m page views.
Along with Glenn Beck, the cable news presenter, Mr Breitbart has established himself as a leading member of the new guard of conservative agenda-setters.

As Andrew himself repeatedly notes he is just doing the job that the LM (legacy media) fails to do every day. He's not setting an "agenda". It is not contrived. He is digging up muck that the cheerleading Obama Girls like Keith Olberman, Chris Mathews, Sulzberger, Gibson et al would prefer to ignore. It's about time.
This morning I was wondering how much traffic BG was getting. Congratulations! Old media, get out of our way!
Financial Times. Can't get more credible pub than that. (Throw in Investors Business Daily & Wash Times too)
I hope Mr. Breitbart makes a fortune with the success. To coin FLOTUS…Andrew is helping to make me proud of America again.
I check out BigGovernment EVERY DAY! I love this site! I can no longer stand to read or TRUST the Mainstream Media!
Andrew Breitbart is a hero of mine in a time when I thought heroes were non existent. His contributions to this titanic struggle for the future of the United States will be recorded in the permanent history of this time period. His consistent use of professionalism, fact checking and honesty should be an example all who would chronicle these important events. We should learn several things from him:
1. Release your findings in a way that makes it difficult for them to be discredited.
2. Present your findings in a professional manner.
3. Surround yourself with professionals that you can trust. The contributors to this site never cease impress me with their sane, concise analysis.
4. Never be ashamed for loving our nation. The fact that Mr. Breitbart is proud to live next to our fallen heroes says something about his heart. God knows, we ALL should have one of those.
CNN and the New York Times, reject accusations of bias.
Hilarious. Were the liberal propagandists giggling when they made the laughable claim that they're not biased?
NYT reporter to CNN reporter: "Are you biased?"
"No. What about you?"
"Me neither. Well that settles that."
The MSM denying liberal bias?
Something I just read on a cop's blog:
Cop: OK, we got you for crack cocaine in your pants.
Perp: These aren't my pants!!
Cop: Well, then whose pants are they?
Perp: They are Someguy's!
Cop: Man, that Someguy really gets around…
…
Intelligent folks: The MSM is biased hard left.
MSM: We're not biased…
There is so much to admire in these websites, and in Andrew Breitbart, the man who made them possible.
The content is magnificent, the writing is mostly superb, and you can find some of the most incisive comments anywhere, right here in these pages.
What an example of market forces working toward a happy result! We needed it, and badly. Breitbart provided it. We went wildly, addictively crazy over it. I'm so proud of my conservative brothers and sisters.
It was much the same in my youth. We were all the time complaining, wishing we had small, yet hefty objects to throw at each other, and voila, the next week someone invented rocks!! (Just playing around, while pointing out that I'm old. Even worse, my age means I had to wait for these wonderful sites longer than many did.

I read the Financial Times everyday. They are credible.
The number of traffic hits Breitbart gets? That should scare MSM to death.

You ain't wrong and you sure as HELL ain't lyin'! I'm excited to see what a force we've become.
Hilarious! Very good one!
But we 11 million don't count. We are all racists.
Congrats to Andrew! I love this site and BH!
If Big Government's 11 million viewers plus all the Tea Party Patriots as well as their extended families begin patronizing the businesses and work of others who actually love this great land and the principles upon which she was founded, changes will indeed be made!
Yes
They were laughing all the way to the Poor House
Money votes. The fact that the Former Mainstream Media is bleeding red ink shows that they have lost customers (ostensibly due to their one-sided reporting). God Bless Us Internets!
"agenda-setter"
Legacy Media has daily budget meeting where they allocate the finite column inches or air time to the stories they decide are important. Andrew Breitbart does the same thing when he chooses his posts. On air or in print media you'll never see the stories they don't cover. On the web virtually any story is a click away. Andrew isn't "setting" any agenda, the people clicking their mouse buttons are the ones setting the agenda.
Put simply, Andrew has a better nose for news than the chowder heads who ignored a story featuring a fake pimp, a scantily clad prostitute, and oodles of sleaze and corruption on the part of ACORN. Give people the news and they'll read it, give them fluff and they won't.
And when the person who picked the short straw at the Times gets around to looking, it will be 11,000,001.
I am so concerned…. this half breed, half assed, example of his clan is not fit to be recycled toilet paper. God help us.
When, how, where, do we begin?
All out typing and yapping hasn't accomplished a damn thing.
There was a huge need – since we really have a big credibility problem with other news sources. I applaud Breitbart for BH and BG – both sites with news and insight unheard of in the other news. Excellent.
Here's an easy bias test: Let's consider all the stories in the last eight months that the MSM would have disemboweled George Bush for:
– Obama needs a TelePrompTer installed to be able to get through a press conference
– Obama spends hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC
– Obama reduces your retirement plan's holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM
– Obama makes a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics
– Obama gives Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVD's, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift
– Obama gives the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches
– Obama bows to the King of Saudi Arabia
– Obama visits Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language"
– Obama fills his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current in their income taxes
– Obama refers to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continues to flub it when he tries again
– Obama misspells the word "advice" but is not hammered for years like Dan Quayle and "potato"
– Obama burns 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day
– Obama fails to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans
– Obama orders the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so
– Obama proposes to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year
– Obama then proposes to double the debt again within 10 years
If you did see these stories, you sure as heck didn't see them from the MSM.
Yep.
Hmm.
Then why type, yap and comment?
Congratulations Andrew!
It's nice to see the good guys win once in a while. Keep up the good work and we'll keep tuning in for all the latest information.
Oh how my congressman and senators hate biggovernment.com. That is if they ever figure out where I get the material for the daily letters I am sending them, but they won't because they feel so much safer hiding behind Ried and Pelosi. I think they feel that if we don't look, it won't exist.
Keep it up Andrew, praise the lord and pass the ammunition ( i never understood that expression until recently).
Great job Andrew! The truth is a powerful thing especially in this TWIILIGHT ZONE we are living in.
Arriba y Arriba for Mr. Breitbart!
Iam counting on you, Mr. Breitbart, to take California back and get the liberals out of Sacramento.
Never underestimate the power of the written word, especially on blogs like this. It makes a California wildfire look like a whisp of smoke.
I am so glad that I found Big Government and Big Hollywood.
When the MSM omits important information from the daily news, that would be called LYING. My mama taught me that leaving out the truth is the same as lying. Somebody should be sitting in the corner!
You can tell when someone like Andrew is hugely successful because the left biased media is frothing at the mouth. It's a Cinderella story. Remember the wicked step sisters? I see this analogy coming true here. MSM will look in the mirror one day and see nothing but "fugly" disaster for themselves.
Congratulations Andrew – I like that notion “Breitbart shapes the Conservative Agenda.”
Congratulations Andrew – I like that notion: "Breitbart shapes Conservative Agenda."
Vainamoinen
I'm gonna email this bias test around to a bunch of friends. If it goes viral, blame yourself for the incredible clarity of of your point.

A Warning: If your in the political “business” I wouldn’t make any long term plans, 11/2010 is going to be your time of reckoning.
CD your avatar sucks man. Get rid of the Frat party photos nobody cares. A confused MC Escher Wood Cut is more appropriate, it works better with your whole curmudgeon trip.
Constitutional question answered. Check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHB6xDkQVKE
If it weren't for James, Hannah and Brietbart, I may have never become as active as I am today in taking back our Country. Thank you for the push!
Andrew Breitbart is a true Patriot for all that he does for this Country.
You've got to be one hell of a cheap masochist !
Why else would you come here to post? You are the odd man out, get verbally trashed and rebutted and apparently you enjoy that mightily. Oh yes, you get it for free, so of course that and the free, public humiliation delights you.
The truth shall set u free, doesn’t hurt if u make a few friends and dollars along way too.I really appreciate those involved that take the heat and pay the bills to bring us the truth.
That is True Patriotism and it’s what we lack these days. You guys are our military for the fight at home. Please show these crazies they have awakened a sleeping giant.
Congrats Andrew and Crew!Thank You for doing the “right thing” in an ass backwards world of wrong being the new right.
"Were the liberal propagandists giggling when they made the laughable claim that they're not biased?"
No, they were busy fact-checking the latest SNL skit that made fun of Obama.

I read Big Government and Big Hollywood all the time. They are fantastic.
I even like Intense Debate comment system, I added it to my website as well.

Judge Confirms Eligibility Trial to Proceed
Keyes got the notice today. Judge Carter was not swayed by obama's thug lawyers. If we all work together, we will win.
I love all Breibart sites.
Headline: NY Times & CNN do in-depth joint investigation of allegations of bias.
SubHead: "No bias found- It's all a right-wing, racist conspiracy!"
Great list and that is probably only the tip of the iceberg.
The Citizens of the United States are looking to support a candidate(s) in the 2010 and 2012 elections that have PROVEN work history (preferably a lengthy successful business history) has an understanding of basis economics and budget issues, can read Legislative Bills PRIOR to voting, has ethics, possess demonstrated Executive decision making abilities and BELIEVES and understands the Constitution of the United States.
The Chosen Candidate(s) will sign a pledge of what his/her plans on Identified Issues are and will be terminated immediately if the plan is changed without a vote of approval from the American people.
Candidates with little business work history need not apply.
Interested Candidates should send their resumes to Big Government.com for posting and direct mailed to all US CITIZENS to read and be available for interviews with every State Tea Party organization. Selected Candidates will appear on a voter ballot and only voters who have two form of ID will be allowed to vote.
EEOC
ARE YOU LISTENING WASHINGTON?
Another what?
If anyone distributes accurate information why is that a bad thing?
Does it bother you that information makes it out to the masses?
Does it bother you we enjoy and use it as best we can instead of overmedicating in front of CBS?
Why? Would you want the country uninformed? How would that suit your agenda?
Mr. B. is only 40 years old? Man, do I feel old. I'm pushing 50 and I have yet to take down a discredited, corrupt, radical organization hell bent on destroying America's morals.
webtraffic is not the same thing as leadership. webtraffic does not make a country great.
Abraham Lincoln is turning over in his grave.
Just so you know, this is my subtle way of protesting. You see, my posts are postcards I'm sending you from Abu Breitbart Grabe. Over at Big Hollywood, any post I make has a 24 hour automated Administrator Approval hold on it.
Of course the upswing is that, after 24 hours I can say that my posts there are "Breitbart Approved"
lets just say I believe in public discourse and deliberation. Its an important burden of democracy.
And: I'm strongly opposed to any efforts by the right wing media establishment to implement a "wolf in sheep's clothing". By that I mean that I take great concern with a "wolf" of a right wing extremist echo chamber masquerading in the form of a "sheepish" public square community forum.
Until Breit bart outright kicks me out, I would argue that this is a public forum. And so, you must put up with the dissenter on the street corner soap box.
Is it cheap masochism?! Well I grant you "its a dirty job" but someone should do it.
Somebody should point out that the lot of you are generally bat sh*t crazy and out to ruin our country.
Hey, if you feel that the spew Andrew Breit bart likes to serve up to you is "accurate", good for you.
The question is: Does it bother YOU that someone here questions it? People here are going to decide what they agree with and what they don't. I think we should agree to leave that to them- free country right? I'm against PC-style "thought police" – aren't you?
CBS is nothing more than a corporation. They have their right to free speech. You guys want to question them? Be my guest. Just don't get all huffy when you all get some of that same medicine – FROM ME.
and then the new owners of the building the New York Times USED to own kick the remaining Times staffers out at 8:00pm and lock the doors. late night propaganda office then becomes a coffee shop one block over and down the street.
March 9 (Bloomberg) — The New York Times Co. agreed to sell the space it occupies in its Manhattan headquarters for $225 million to pay debt as print advertising revenue declines.
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&a...
You can't lead without followers. Ask the New York Times.
Abraham Lincoln is turning in his grave, but it's over the way our constitution is being ignored by the current federal agenda.
You think I'm against the thought police? And you're the one that just attacked me for thinking what I want?
Wow, that's a typical liberal for you. Unless I agree with you I shouldn't be allowed to post my thoughts.
Do you even see the irony here?
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh…….so you ARE an admitted troll, an admitted far lefty, an admitted masochist, and an admitted paranoid. How delightful to have ones assumptions admitted to bey the extremely flawed, mentally ill person who is the object of the assumptions !
You were demanding, the other day, exact quotes that prove that Rev Wright is a Racist. I suggest that you go do some reading of THE TRUMPET, Wright's church magazine. He has said, on 4/12/08 that "THE FOUNDING FATHERS PLANTED WHITE SUPREMACY IN THE DNA OF AMERICA". He also called this nation the "U.S. OF KKK A". And since you have now claimed that NOBODY belongs to the KKK anymore ( which is erroneous ), IF you are white, then I guess YOU belong to the KKK, as far as Rev. Wright is concerned.
There's tons more, so go do some scut work, but don't bother bringing back anything you may find over at DU, MEDIA MATTERS, or the Huff Po!
Perhaps you will get banned here, perhaps you won't. It really doesn't matter, since everyone already has your number and has dismissed you and your posts, for who and what you have admitted to being.
A la Alinsky's rule #18, in his RULES FOR RADICALS, I HAVE begun to destroy you.
I'm also reminded of Pee Wee Herman's frequent comeback to his accusers:
"I know you are, but what am I?"
It would be quite ironic if that were the case.
did I say you shouldn't be allowed to post your thoughts?
Please post away! I really want to know how you really feel.
And I will post too, in response. And I will tag your comments with labels as I judge them. And if our viewing public judges me rather than you, well then, I'll just have to deal with it. I'm okay with it.
That's so big of you.
Most of the stories posted on Breitbart are written by AP, or AFP so I agree it's spew.
Breitbart and Beck both share a common perspective. One that does not include all Americans and only represents their demographics, excluding others, like minorities. The truth??? I see some statistics which are misleading and "suggest" things that lead to the assumptions and beliefs of Breitbart and Beck. It's opinion, not to be synonymous with "truth". The twilight zone I see going on includes the institutional racism being perpetuated by these biased perspectives. Just because you are up front about your bias point of view doesn't make it any less offensive. Sure there are liberals with their crazy views, but nevertheless, don't peg me as a dem just because I don't agree with the voice of republicans or conservatives, I know how these discussions can go. For the people who have not experienced racism or just do not know what they are talking about regarding race, like Beck or Breitbart, just keep your mouth closed and your blog free from your ignorant rants of racism not being a problem in this country still. Maybe put down some of those history books once in a while and start with sociology and political science. Bias is bias, no matter what form, it stagnates progress and evolution of thought. Always "conserving" tradition and OLD ways of doing things is not always prudent.
Damn skippy! Breitbart is my hero too! Can't go a day without BigGov!
"share a cab?" "Nah I'm broke" "Bus?" "Ya sure"…."Ya sure, or yes sir?" "Don't jack with me, it's been a long day defending Obama…"
WOW, I'd forgotten about most of them. I didn't know he spelt "advice" wrong – you forgot about the 57 states.
This is a terrific site. Congratulations on your numbers and thanks for all your hard work. You all deserve it.
@FirstNation,
Oh, quit your whining. You've had it good here in the USA. Try living where I was raised…your pampered self wouldn't survive. YOu don't have a clue!
