Michael Savage to Debate Free Speech at Cambridge Union Oct. 15th
by Publius(San Francisco, CA) Michael Savage, ’shock-jock’ author of over 25 books with a radio audience of 10 million listeners who was banned from entering the United Kingdom in May by Gordon Brown will argue against the insanity of ‘political correctness’ on Thursday, October 15 at 8:00pm GMT. Savage will appear via internet link to argue his case for freedom of speech.

Quoting Winston Churchill, who said, “You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police. They are afraid of words and thoughts! Words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home, all the more powerful because they are forbidden. These terrify them. A little mouse – a little tiny mouse! -of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic…” Savage will attempt to ’save England from a descent into mental slavery where petty bureaucrats dictate what can and cannot be discussed.”
“The Cambridge Union has been following you with great interest in recent weeks,” reads the invitation, dated July 2. “The decision to ban you has caused quite a stir and we are keen to know how your situation progresses…” Founded in 1815, the Union is the world’s oldest debating society, previously hosting many high profile figures including Ronald Reagan, Theodore Roosevelt, Henry Kissinger and Sir Winston Churchill himself.
“This debate should awaken all free British citizens to the disastrous state the Brown government has created,” says Savage. “By speaking passionately about freedom of speech, I hope to appeal to the British people and the incoming conservative leadership to remove my name from their list of murderers and terrorists.”

doc savage is the man.
Go get them Michael !
This could very well be our future, here in the U.S.A
Savage isn’t on in L.A anymore but I used to love listening to his show. I also got thoroughly annoyed just as often. I’d love to see a video of the debate; hopefully it’ll be available. The moral and cultural rot in once Great Britain has pierced so deep that the country that once stood for Western values has now all but rolled over for its muslim hordes that detest their new host country. And the muslims have made no secret of their desire to overthrow the British govt and replace it with Islamic [sharia] law. They’re already making incremental steps through British acquiescence on every front.
It would be an epic irony if were Savage inspired the Brits to once again rise on their hind legs, find their dignity and retake their nation from the political prostitutes and sellouts.
Also, Savage needs to stop taking shots at Conservative hosts; it's petty and it drives listeners away.
According to liberals free speech is reserved only for liberal speech.
You want to mention God, say 'Merry Christmas" or opine that marriage is reserved for one man and one woman…look out.

Your entire post went out the window with your hypocritical sentence.
"I love how so-and-so" isn't afraid to bash on people or idea I don't like, but don't attack me or my ideas!"
Is that your line of thinking?
What are you babbling about?
This "shock jock" accurately predicts/explains/warns about everything happening in the U.S. government.
Go, Michael!
What are you babbling about?
By the way moron, you quoted something I didn't even say or elude to. Are you normally this stupid or are you trying to impress me?
Just like the subversives at our colleges riot to stop conservative speech by guests, (Tom Tancredo and others), liberal criminals will attempt to stop this, even if they have to take down more towers. Free speech is dangerous, Mr. Savage. You think you are on the list as a terrorist. You are not. You are on the list to keep freedom loving people from being exposed and awakened by your commentary and descriptions of their country's descent into the muslim sharia law toilet. Our very right to point out the offenses against us being perpetrated by these 7th century tribal thugs is being criminalized!
Be safe, and be careful, Mr. Savage. The cowards stabbed Theo Van Gogh in the street because they were "offended". You, sir, offend the enemies of freedom, and must be silenced before you spread your vision with others.
My partial solution for all freedom loving countries is to offer "freedom of any religion that does not call for the subjugtion, forced conversion, or death of non-believers"

I'm with you, Satan (well, not in the Biblical sense, LOL) — Savage annoys the hell out of me quite often. I love the way he goes after Islamic terrorists, though. He's also prone to mistake a friendly call for an attack and give one of his fans tee-total hell, for no good reason, LOL. I think he might be a bit senile.
Also, I have to hold my sides, I laugh so hard when he gets a migraine headache while on the air. "The right eye just went out," he'll say. KILLS ME!!!
I listen to maybe 30 minutes of him per month, LOL. A little of Savage goes a long way with me, cuz it's just such powerful stuff. LMAO

I share your sentiments HPJ; Savage is a true curmudgeon, but a likable curmudgeon.

Michael Savage has been warning us for years, we didn't listen.
Michael Savage often raises very valid points and often is very insightful but damn I get tired of hearing him whine about Rush ("the golfer"), O'Reilly ("the leprechaun"), Beck ("the crier"), Hannity ("the wall banger"), Levin ("the hemorrhoid with ears", "the lawyer"). He comes across as a bitter old man jealous of the success that perhaps he could have had. I've listen to his shows where he spends entire segments bashing other talk show host, then turns around and complains because they don't support him in his battle with the U.K. I can only take him in small doses.
The Brits have the opportunity to throw Brown and Blair's Nanny State rot out in an election sometime before May, let's pray they make the right choice and can begin reversing the rot.
I generally love listening to Doc Savage, however his program has been a little off puting of late. All I hear about is his rant about being banned in Britian. Granted it is an important to talk about, as well it should, but I'm getting a little tired of it. Maybe it's because of when I tune in, I dunno. Like I said in general I love his show and enjoy his rants and raves. G
Good luck with you debate Mike!!!

I can't wait to see how the debate goes and hope Michael is at the top of game that day. Have been following this ban since it was announced and found it interesting when the secret emails came out. Not to mention how did a govt. official in England think to put him on a list when he isn't even known there? Did they call somebody over here? Yeah I agree with some of you he is sometimes an asshole and only listen to him a couple of times a week but he is our asshole and fellow American. I think it is terrible that others in the same biz, whether they like him or not, haven't supported him in this PC mad British ban. Again I find myself saying that all we Americans truly have in the world is each other. BTW even after the emails came out showing he was selected to be on the list because the British Govt. was worried there were too many muslims (and didn't want to piss them off), they still kept him on the list.
This Cambridge appearance will be interesting. I hope he skewers them.
Britain needs Michael Savage in order to be Great again!
When he rails against Red Diaper Doper Babies and "Loiyahs", it's funny. But I get tired of him ripping Levin.____I've learned more about NYU and Columbia listening to him that I would on TV.
I believe "the hemorrhoid with ears" is Beck. Levin is "the lawyer" and is also referred to as Groucho.
On today's show Michael said he was in the process of deciding whether to go through with the debate or not.
He will be on satellite and it came to light that his statements can be cut off without him knowing it, therefore
changing the context of what he is saying. If that is the case, then I support him in pulling out.
Does anyone know what the parameters of the debate are? Free Speech is a little broad and who will he be debating?
I'll play 'devil's advocate' here: I think Tanner was commenting on your last remark, about "taking shots at Conservative hosts".
Well this should be a combo of weird/interesting.
Dr. Savage, go over there and free the British from the chains of their leftist insanity. Stir their passions as Winston Churchill did, the British are a great people on a small island that had a history of great Kings and Queens. They gave us their religion, their common law, their history we send the best American historian to ignite the British lion again. Michael make the greatest Churchillian speech that will let the British know they are not alone in this cultural marxism. Good luck Michael and throw a monkey wrench in the gears of the leftist pro Muslim machine that is determined to destroy our mother country. Lord Nelson, Savage is here!
Poor Savage – he hasn't got long.
Borders, language, culture, as true today as it was 2,000 years ago.

More on Jacqui Smith, the now resigned Home Secretary, that put him on the list:

According to Drudge, Savage just got canceled from this event.
According to Drudge, Savage just got canceled from this event due to "legal issues"??
It doesn't look like there will be a debate, per Drudge
I fear the rot has already gone too far, since the conservatives here accept most of the shibboleths of the left uncritically. A proper conservative member was recently slapped down by the leadership for questioning the nhs. And on matters of climate change, europe etc there is barely a cigarette paper between the parties.
The highly PC BBC is responsible for making many truthful things unsayable here and I doubt there will be any progress until that institution is dealt with. Then perhaps we might have a decent debate.
For those who want to hear Savage, and hundreds of others, on an internet connection, take a look at http://www.talkstreamlive.com
Every conceivable talk show is on that thing from stations all over the country.
The best thing is if you can't listen to a show live, you can catch it in different time slots all day.
I am getting sooooo tired of people on both the right and the left ranting about how their rights to free speech are being abridged when something they've said is met with a negative response.
The First Amendment clearly states:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
You will notice it says, "Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech." It says nothing about being protected from negative reactions or consequences as a result of your statements. An example: Though you have the right to the free expression of your opinion as to the stupidity of your boss, there is nothing in the constitution to protect you from being fired for expressing this opinion in his/her face.
The First Amendment applies to the U.S. Government only! It does not prohibit me from telling you that I don't like what you have to say and/or to SHUT UP!! It implies neither any obligation on any person to listen to you, nor to like or tolerate what you say. Neither is all speech protected: There have also been U.S. Supreme Court decisions on this matter that have said, in part, that yelling, "FIRE!" in a crowded movie theatre when there is no fire is not protected by the First Amendment.
This ties back into the whole 'controversy' surrounding former Ms. California, Carrie Prejean – she said something that was unpopular with her listeners (in this case: the judging panel) and received a negative reception. Contrary to what her handlers over at the National Organization for Marriage would like you to believe, even if her statements did cost her the title: she is NOT a victim. There has been no attempt by the U.S. Government to silence her, and as far as I know she continues to spread her message to all those who will listen.
Likewise, Mr. Savage has made statements that the government of the United Kingdom – an entity that is not bound to abide by the Constitution of the United States – determined to be in violation of their laws regarding the incitement of hatred and violence and has, by legal methods, barred him from entering their country. (And just like the UK, I don't want grant Mr. Savage access to my home, either – my decision being based completely on the persona he has chosen to display and the opinions he has chosen to voice.)
If Mr. Savage is a victim, then he is the victim of his own actions and the consequences he has brought upon himself.
I think you missed the point I was trying to make by the Savage/Prejean tie-in: both have spoken their minds (as is their right), and both claimed 'victim-hood' when they didn't like the response they received.
As a member of the LGBT community, I find a lot of what Savage says to be very close to, if not crossing, the line of hate speech that might possibly incite violence. And didn't some nut-job say a while back that he was just trying to off all the liberals that Savage, Glenn Beck, and others were saying deserved death?
And as to the "legal issues" – from WND's reporting it appears that even though the UK Home Secretary has resigned, the ban against Savage is still in place. Makes me wonder exactly why the Home Secretary resigned, because Michael Savage doesn't seem to be the reason….
I see, so there's ONE deranged individual out of the MILLIONS of law-abiding listeners of Beck and Savage etc. and you conclude that what they are saying may be "crossing the line to hate speech". Nice logic.
And Ms. Prejean NEVER said that the government was trying limit her speech. Her point was more along the lines of political correctness and group-think gone amok. And I believe her lawsuit is mainly a contract issue and whether a breach occurred.
Jacqui Smith, the former UK Home Secretary behind the Savage ban was embattled both before and after the Savage incident but the Savage ban may have been the last straw. Her successor hinted that the ban was improper and would be lifted but has dragged his feet since, probably at the behest of the blithering idiot Gordon Brown who will be ousted after the next election.
Savage and Beck said some liberals deserved death? Prove it, that is a ridiculous statement. I listen to Beck all the time and he has never said anything like that. I don't listen to much Savage, so I can't speak to intelligently about what he might or might not say. I highly doubt he would say liberals deserve to be killed. Now Islamofacists, maybe. Conservatives are not calling for leftist to be killed, you on the other hand are being stupid.
One deranged individual?! I thought 'deranged' was an adjective that applied to all of Beck's listeners, with the exception of those who listen just to report to the rest of us non-listeners (like Lindsey Graham and myself) about the crazy things he says.
You're right the Prejean never said the gov't was trying to limit her speech, but as I said in my original comment, Maggie Gallagher of National Organization for Marriage never misses an opportunity to paint both Prejean and herself as 'victims' for speaking out with implications that the 'GAY AGENDA' is trying to limit their rights to free speech.
As for the Savage ban: I don't dispute your characterization of Ms. Smith's resignation, but even with her successor's hints about the validity of the ban – we can all see it's a huge priority for them.
So all Beck and Savage listeners are "deranged" (except you and Lindsey Graham)? Wow, looks like YOU are the extremist.
And I find a self-described "member of the LGBT community" complaining about people playing the "victim-hood" (sic) card to rather ironic, don't you?
I don't follow Savage that closely either, but he did lose his show on MSNBC for saying something along the lines of 'fagots should get AIDS and die.'
More recently Beck did a little piece on his show pretending to have a glass of wine with a woman wearing a Pelosi mask. During his little skit he made jokes about the wine being poisoned.
These are just the things that come to mind right now, but if that's not telling their listeners that people they hate should die or be killed, I don't know what is….
Conservatives are not calling for people on the left to be killed out right, but all this talk of, "Obama is a Muslim/Communist/Nazi/Hitler who hates white people and wants to kill your grandma," is specifically designed to put the idea into some wing-nut's head that he'll be seen as a hero for 'taking back the country' by whacking that non-citizen <n-word> who has unlawfully seized control of the White House.
And just the other day didn't some columnist on OneNewsNow say something about the military rising up against Obama to 'save the country through a bloodless coup'?!
Good luck with that! I'm "sceptical," however. The UK, I'm afraid, has long since passed the tipping point.
I guess you're not familiar with the UK's Human Rights Act of 1998 that was put into effect in 2000? Check out Article 10 if you don't think Britain has a "Free Speech" right similar to the US.
And I guess you missed the resignation of the UK Home Secretary who added Savage to their ban list only so they would have a Conservative Jew to balance out all of the Muslim extremists on the list. Frankly, I think Savage is a bot off his rocker, but to compare to the Muslim clerics who routinely incite ACTUAL violence is way off base.
And bringing Carrie Prejean into this? Oh please….
The BBC like their NYT's counterpart be damned.
I've got to hope that any Brit with their head screwed on has figured those lefty losers out as their worst enemies by now.
I underatand what you are saying about Cameron and the Tories, but, at least it is progress in the right direction.
Michael Savage only Points to the other radio hosts because they are afriad to speek of the real threat our country faces and that the world faces. Its not Obama. As Savage said, Obama probably thinks what hes doing is good for the country and world. The real threat is those who wish to Outlaw free speech i.e. the politically correct movement. The other radio talk show hosts are too scared that they will lose advertisers if they address this; the real issue.
