Breaking: Louisiana Attorney General: Rathke Embezzled $5 Million From ACORN

An internal review by the board of directors of the community organization ACORN determined that the amount allegedly embezzled from the community organization was $5 million, well more than the previously reported amount of nearly $1 million, according to a new subpoena in an investigation by Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell.
The subpoena, released this afternoon, says, “It is still unclear if some of the monies embezzled are from state, federal or private funds.”
Caldwell issued subpoenas in August seeking documents related to Acorn International then-President Wade Rathke and his brother Dale Rathke, who kept the group’s books. Those subpoenas were focused on possible Acorn violations of state employee tax law, obstructing justice and violating the Employee Retirement Security Act.

Update: According to the new subpoena issued by the Louisiana Attorney General, it seems ACORN leadership was aware of the full extent of the embezzlement. That they have covered up the true figure cast doubt on their ability to truely reform the organization. In other words, they will only admit to what they get caught at.

In a recent interview, Rathke readily correct the reporter by stating the amount embezzled was about $50,000 higher than the reporter said. He appeared to be HONEST…Turns out he was such a big liar still. I thought it was strange for him to "admit" to a higher amount…now we know why…he still understated the amount by about four million! Mmm, mmm, mmm!

Actually I kept seeing reports the 1 million was paid back "by an anonymous donor." A few reports said Dale (and Wade?) had repaid about $200,000 before the donation.
Generally the MSM articles were simply saying the money was paid back, then it looks like the assumption got spread that one or both Rathke brothers had done all of the paying.

Let's be honest. ACORN is responsible for registering millions of legal low and middle-income citizens (read: Democratic-leaning, as the GOP sees them) to vote. So they have been in the Republican crosshairs for years.
Whenever ACORN discovers potentially fraudulent voter registration forms submitted by a handful of their employees, it is THEY who alert authorities about the fraud, and turn both the FORMS (as required by law), and the WORKERS WHO DEFRAUDED THEM in to officials so they can be investigated.
The truth is that there is not a single recorded instance of voter fraud committed by any illegally registered voters via ACORN. Not one.

Here is something for everyone to consider. I propose a new era of integrity for ALL government offices. This means full disclosure of where the taxpayer’s money is being spent at all times. All government expenses needs to be placed in a website that ALL taxpayers can easily access. As I recall, taxation without representation is against the law and it’s about time we go after any and all government wastefull spending and corruptions. To date, we have very few means of keeping track of the government waste. We depend on the media to keep our gevernment honest; lately this appears to be one sided and corrupt, too! God help us all.
It is refreshing to finally action against the mighty ACORN. I agree that the very notion that Democratic politicians are willing to pursue ACORN indicates that maybe, just maybe people are starting to get it. The American people are fed up. They are not just fed up with health care reform and the spiraling national debt. It goes deeper than that. They are fed up with plain inaction on the part of their elected officials. This spans both sides of the aisle. Republicans and Democrats alike have been put on notice that the status quo simply will not suffice any longer. No longer is it acceptable for our elected officials to do just enough to maintain their office. They must work for those that sent them there. Hopefully this self-correcting trend continues.

When I first heard about the million, I thought that sounded like small change for these criminals. When Madeoff got away with 50 billion, a million is a month's skimmed income for these guys.
I am becoming so disallusioned with America and its lack of ethics, the corruption of the government and the theft of our wealth, I at times really hope capitalism is dying.
In my mind I have redefined wealth, it appears the more we have the less we are.
After losing practically 80% of a lifetimes accumulated wealth, I want the address of all of these crooks so I can go throw tomatos at their houses.
