Rasmussen: Fear of Losing Private Insurance Trumps Hope of Public Option
by PubliusSixty-three percent (63%) of voters nationwide say guaranteeing that no one is forced to change their health insurance coverage is a higher priority than giving people the choice of a public option. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that just 29% take the opposite view. They say it’s more important to give people the choice between private insurance and a government-sponsored non-profit health insurance option.
Most liberal voters say giving people the choice of a public option is more important. But, most moderates take the opposite view and Republicans overwhelmingly agree with them.

This government is a travesty-over and over the polls show what the people want and over and over the government does as it pleases. The Obamas celebrate their marriage with a typical look at me show,,while more troops die during this time of his inability to make a decision, the economy is being destroyed by his intervention, unemployment continues to grow,Iran has the bomb(whom is the UN kidding that the bomb is in the FUTURE?),millions spent for a joyride to Denmark(and a 25 min.meeting allowed to a General)-Obama is a disgrace and he has destroyed this country in very short order–Not that Congress is any better. A Revolt by the people is near. And to think we were the greatest nation, even with our faults…………………….
For those 29% who ignorantly believe that having the goverment option will actually result in "market" competition, you need to read just small snippets of the bill. Somebody slap ME ! I forgot AGAIN ! This 29% were GOVERNMENT EDUCATED SHEEPLE who believe that gumment is the answer and resolute the end all.
Let's add it up LIBS…
Medicare: FAILURE
Medicaid: FAILURE
Welfare: FAILURE
Post Office: FAILURE
Fannie May: FAILURE
Freedie Mac: FAILURE
So with a ONE HUNDRED PERCENT FAILURE RATE you really think GOVERNMENT can manage Healthcare ?
AHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAAH ! OMG ! AHHAHAHAHAHAHHA ! GASP ! AAHAHHAHAAHHAHAHHAHAHA !CALL 911 my sides are splitting ! AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ! Choking and coffee spilling from nose ! AHAAHAHAHHAHAAH

Socialized medicine is such a large part of lefts egalitarian utopia they don’t care what the polls say. This is good news, as this country is inherently conservative and the leftist are fully exposed, America will make them pay in 2010, and we will begin to vanquish ‘60s radicalism once and for all.
The polls are finally swinging in the right direction. Hopefully the gumment push will be defeated over the next two weeks. Real reform can be accomplished with the removal of inter-state regulations preventing insurance companies (called COMPETITION) from competing accross state lines and REAL tort reform limiting these outrageous awards at the hands of PI attorneys.
Good post… Ya hit a homer !
Amen!
Agreed, government can't grab it's butt cheeks with both hands on a sunny day. Maybe that's why the Framers were very careful to prescribe a short list of permissible functions.

Thanks Jason.
Good job on getting interested in this story.
Right about now, there are some mighty embarrased politicians in Hardin, Montana.
Folks in the heartland are good, decent people. It is easy for professional conmen to dupe them, because they tend to take everyone at face valuse and believe them. It is against their nature to think someone could lie, cheat or steal. They have values that city people do not comprehend.
The 29% who favor the government option are probably government employees and union members who will be exempt from the public option as their gold-plated plans are grandfathered in.
I hope you're wrong too – but the signs aren't good. The Democrat Leadership and far left members believe that they Know What Is Best For Us, even when it is against our will. Pelosi refused to have Town Hall meetings in CA because she disdains the common folk she represents.
I'm very tempted to do a Lucianne Goldberg and wear nothing but black until he leaves office.
Don't do that.
Conservatives love liberty loving wild women in black. You could derail the whole movement………
Wouldn't that encourage people to join?
One thing is for sure, I'm not going to wear electric clashing colors with a weight belt.
Good point!
Break out the black dresses.
If I say black dress, is that racist?
Perhaps I should have said "off white."
I think the proper term would be Dress Of Color.
Interesting. I'll file that away.
Deb, thanks for bringing this up. It is in the plan that UNIONS are EXCLUDED from any and all 'penalities' if they lose their health insurance and will NEVER be 'taxed' (BHO can call it what he will, we KNOW it's a tax). People need to open their eyes and realize that ONE group is NOT screaming about what BHO has planned and that is because they ARE safe.
What I don't get, is how come my union is exempted from the Nat'l Health Care Reform, while yet my union, IBEW, and our uppity-ups are promoting this reform?
"A government policy to rob Peter to pay Paul can be assured of the support of Paul."
– George Bernard Shaw
I believe that forcing insurance companies to accept pre-existing will cause insurance rates to go up for all, especially if the inter-state restrictions are not lifted.
Forcing the young and healthy to buy insurance won't help because many simply won't do it.
Adding one more insurance "company" (public option) to increase competition among 1300+ companies is a ridiculous idea.
Not having tort-reform is also a ridiculous idea.
I WANT people that are sick to be able to afford insurance if they lose or leave their job, I may be one of them someday. I DON'T want people buying insurance ONLY when they get sick if we have to live in the same insurance pool.
It is a real problem that needs to be tackled one step at a time.
It's awful how Democrat members of congress are acting.
[...] the rest of this great post here [...]
What's sad is these union sheep don't see the inherent, end-result of their actions. Think about it. If everyone bands together and unions become the way-of-life (100%), then the fees that they are currently exempt from will run short because nobody will be paying into the healthcare "overhead."
Thus, in the end, everyone will get screwed, even union members. Nobody is safe and it's frustrating that the sheep who think they're "safe" are exactly JUST as vulnerable.

How about fear of losing Constitutional rights trumps President "I WON" by a longshot. Game on big ears.
That's what they think – we won, so we can do whatever we want. And they had enough gullible people to vote them in (on top of the Republican's acting like DemLite and getting voted OUT of office).
But there is this silly little thing called the Constitution that going to come up and bite them where they sit – and more and more people are starting to learn why our Founding Fathers wrote what they did and really meant a LIMITED Fed. Government.
I hurt my foot a couple months ago.
It hurt …bad. I thought for sure my foot was broken.
I went to this 'Doc-in-a-box' to have them look at it.
The 'Doc-in-a-box' took an x-ray and said my foot was broken.
He recommend I go see this podiatrist (sp?)
A 'Doc-in-a-box' tech even tried to bandage an ice pack to my foot. I pointed out to him that if he bandaged an ice pack to my foot it would cause frost-bite.
The podiatrist looked at the x-ray pointed out to me that my foot was not actually broken. He showed me how I had just 'Bruised' my heel. It still hurt but he took the time to show me why to the lay-man looking at the x-ray may see it as broken. He told me to use these crutches for a week or so and I should be fine in a bit. A week or so later I was fine.
My insurance payed the podiatrist in full (His bill was about $40).
The 'Doc-in-a-box' sent my insurance company a bill for about $700.
The 'Doc-in-a-box' didn't get the diagnose right. The 'Doc-in-a-box' even tried to bill my insurance for services they didn't even provide.
I went to the 'Doc-in-a-box' with the bill they sent me and had to demand to see my records. I sat down with them and actually called them a den of thieves. They could not justify about 90% of what they were billing me for.
I was getting billed for stuff like "Injection, betamethasone acetate and betamethasone sodium phosphate, per 3 mg. $90." No kidding. What the hell is 'betamethasone acetate and betamethasone sodium phosphate'? I'm not making that up. I'm looking at the bill. They billed my insurance $90 for a shot I never got. My insurance didn't want to pay it. I called them out and they were like 'OH. That's right. you didn't get a shot."
My guess is they just wanted to just bill some fat pockets (My insurance) and hope that it would be SOP.
Bottom line is government run insurance would have just flipped these clowns the coin w/o questioning it.
Sorry.
/rant off
We need a constitutional amendment that says that elected officials and government employees cannot receive ANY benefit that is not also available to the citizens. The amendment should further stipulate that anything mandated by the government on the citizens must FIRST apply to all elected officials and government employees. The amendment should further outlaw unions for government employees.
We can start by passing constitutional amendments to the state constitutions and then amend the US constitution using the process where the state legislatures can amend the constitution with a 2/3 vote.
I think such an amendment would have overwhelming support.

Quite frankly despite the smoke screens, despite the intentional confusion, I do not believe the People are buying any of this, any more. The true consensus of opinion is that Government cannot be trusted. Cannot be trusted to run Medicare or Medicaid, cannot be trusted to run Social Security or even the Post Office. How then could they be trusted with something as large and cumbersome as Healthcare.
Does anyone remember the House Banking Scandal a few years back, where Congress was kiting personal checks? With that type fiscal responsibility, we cannot allow them to manage money, a business, or Health Care. There is no accountability, or no transparency.
The most important point of this public option scheme is to look at who is exempted from it. The politicians and unions who are doggedly supporting it. If the public option is just so darn good, why exempt anyone from it? Just require everyone to get it with no exemptions, right?
The answer is that the public option is a joke. It has nothing to do with concern over affordable health care. It is just a feel-good measure by Liberals to appeal to the multitude of brain-dead people that think government is the answer. The public option is simply meant to grab more political power for themselves, nothing more.
These crafters and supporters of a public option don't want to risk their health under such a bad plan. They want the best care they can get and the only way to get the best care is to be exempted from the scheme they want to shove down the throats of the rest of us.

I don't think the Democrats in CONgress care one bit about what the majority of American actually want. The Democrat leadership are are all hard core 60's radicals (except Obama, he's just steeped in it) and this is their holy grail and I think they will even sacrifice the 2010 election to get it.
I hope I'm wrong.
True Steve but at the same point they are unwilling to actually implement the Health Care Bill till 2012-We do have a chance to reverse it then- Obama will have a short lease like Clinton did. then again with God's help -His days in the WH will be over too.

BUSTED! Government Healthcare Advocate Admits Public Option is Trojan Horse!
http://02e56fa.netsolhost.com/blog1/index.php/200...
The Statists are counting on entrapping young, healthy people who don't use many health services to subsidize the newly insured who have pre-existing conditions. Without this income seizure, the spending gap would be even worse.
NO PUBLIC OPTION!! It’s unfair to make us hard working Americans pay for some lazy a**es health insurance. No health insurance for lazy a**es!!!
And if Obama, the left wing nut, gets his way we will. And I DO believe that Americans will loose their private health insurance, so count me in that too.
And what is this NONSENSE about putting someone in freaking JAIL if they dont buy the Democruts health insurance? WHAT IN THE HELL IS THAT ABOUT??!!! DAMN, they wanna turn this great country into the freaking Soviet Union, dont they?
Until the elitist Congress and all federal employes come up with a plan that they must sign up for, that is the same as the plan they want me to sign up for, I will not listen to these con-artists. Till then Congress can go shove it where the Sun Don't Shine!
I know I'm not the only one when I say, if the government screws up my PRIVATE health-care, it rises almost to the level of a death sentence for me. My physical condition cannot withstand the long drawn out bureaucracies that are inevitable with the public option. If I'm going down, I'm taking someone with me. I have what they have been referring to as "Cadillac" coverage, however, my families yearly income is less than 50k. Think about it you idiots.
Agreed.
I favor the public option and I am neither a government employee nor a union member. And I presently have health coverage with a nonprofit insurer.
Lucianne Goldberg ought to wear a black bag over her head.
You let the government in and you will never get them out.
I would like to hear feedback as to the following modest proposals:
1. Open pharmacies. Citizens can procure… less "fun" drugs, at their will and risk, in this country, or any one which offers the lowest price. Those doing so waive all "protection" against adversity which comes with the absurd pricing resulting from federal laws banning citizens what most companies can do for any commodity, even those affecting public safety, OUTSOURCE.
2. No more limits on number of MDs, RNs, or hospitals which can be set up per area, and per square mile.
3. Ban all health insurance. Health insurance is not health care. SAvings from market rate solutions for 90% of what ails us, couuld be used to conduct research and develop good Dx and Tx for those questions still unanswered… cancer etc.
HEALTH INSURANCE IS NOT HEALTH CARE
HEALTH INSURANCE IS NOT HEALTH CARE
HEALTH INSURANCE IS NOT HEALTH CARE
HEALTH INSURANCE IS NOT HEALTH CARE
HEALTH INSURANCE IS NOT HEALTH CARE
continuing from above
4. If you don't like #3, then how about taking a look at cross border HMOs, able to cut 43% on average costs of US bound HMOs… due…. wait for it, to excess NVA cost raising Fed rules and regulations
5. For those who feel many too limited in their capabilities (the soft bigotry Bush spoke about), then deliver care to them via the VA health system. Direct, no insurance involved.
HEALTH INSURANCE IS NOT HEALTH CARE
Continuing from 5 above
6. Increase scope of RN license. For continuing chronic oversight, skip the MD toll charge for perscription renewals. Case history shows this check in is more effective via RN… as "House" is not human reality, its just a TV show, and MD toll charges are waste.
7. LEAN is all over our manufacturing processes. Its good, but its absence from medicine. Why not let the patient decide their own diagnostics and treament at their own risk? The libertarians have brought this up for the last 20 years or so. Why not?
HEALTH INSURANCE IS NOT HEALTH CARE
cONTINUING FROM 7 ABOVE
8. Trouble getting started on 1-7, BAN HEALTH INSURANCE as step 1. Think outside the box. Look at college tuition assistance for where it leaves one at degree completion….. poorer, and arguably dumber.
Aside: Higher premiums for people eating sugary sweets. Step 1, no "coverage" for AIDS. Ok, now done with silly social control via Govt takeover of health care, then lets get back to 1-7.
Why do people accept that to have health care, one needs insurance? The 18-34 year olds who will now be forced to buy policies, when their best option is to pay out of pocket… and yes, gamble a little that nothing catastrophic will beset, or, let them buy catastrophic only…. with high deductable, if they really feel personally they must gamble on insurance.
The Obama plan only perpetuates the insurance status quo.

EXACTLY!
Make them rely on the 'Plan' they are going to subject us to!
OH….
By the way…
Front page on Yahoo! is the Obama's dream anniversary date! Aren't they such celebrity on their dream date!!
After that you can see where 12 American soldiers were killed in Afghanistan today.
OH…Wait…You can't see the story about the 12 dead soldiers. That story is not there anymore.
But I bet that sure was a fantastic date they had! Almost as good as Brad & Angolina…./vomit

Actually, it wouldn't. Take a look at any hospital/physician bill for a Medicare recipient. Then see how much Medicare paid. It's a whole lot less than the amount billed.
What are you talking about? Everyone is "exempted" from a public option. It's available if you want it or need it. If you actually knew anything, you might make some sense.

Hear, hear! Once you start playing with other people's money, corruption naturally follows if you have no morals and no principles.
For the first time in my adult life I am ashamed of my Government!!!
I don‘t know If I said it already but …Cool site, love the info. I do a lot of research online on a daily basis and for the most part, people lack substance but, I just wanted to make a quick comment to say I’m glad I found your blog. Thanks,
