Sen. Burris: Bush Cost Us The Olympics

Senator Rowland Burris of Illinois, the Senator who was appointed to fill President Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat, blames George Bush for Chicago not getting the Olympics in 2016. Burris stated in an interview, shortly after the announcement, that the image of the U. S. has been so tarnished in the last 8 years that, even Barack Obama making an unprecedented pitch for the games could not overcome the hatred the world has for us as a result of George Bush.
Of course, it should be noted that Chicago was selected as a finalist in June, 2008. You know, when the guy the whole world is supposed to hate was President. Oh, those crafty foreigners. Consider this an Open Thread.

The president is mixing a bit more of the second latter these days after milking the advise in the first one to the point where it wasn’t effective. Y'know, this whole thing just ticks me off. The arrogance of him going to Denmark…I mean, COME ON. We just hosted the Olympics in 2002. Why was there this entitlement attitude? There are numerous other countries quite capable of holding them. I think it's awesome that Rio won since South America has never hosted the Olympics!
But what really irritates me is him taking time out for this when we've got a war going on in Afghanistan AND Iraq, healthcare is a mess, and unemployment is staggeringly high. And he jets across the world for this? GAH. It infuriates me right down to my core.

The "Snivel" Rights Act is a perfect example of the validity of the law of unintended consequences. It essentially put the government in the position of the "giver" of rights. For instance, busing students was never supposed to be part of the act. The courts decided it was. This broke up the neighborhoods. People no longer had any connection with their neighborhood. The government was telling you that the neighborhood you live in is so crappy that we need to take your children out and send them ten miles away to school. Parents were no longer involved in their child's education (at least those that wanted to be). It certainly made it more difficult to attend a parent/teacher conference.
Now everything is a "snivel" right. Health care. Abortion. Food. Women in mens clubs (but not vice versa, oddly enough). Smoke-free bars and restaurants (for crying out loud, let the business decide who they want in their establishment). It's a mess.
The real rights of the individual are trampled by the "snivel" rights of the mob. The state has become the grantor of rights. By using that "tool", the Democraps are able to keep groups on the plantation. If you leave the plantation, you lose your rights, and we'll stop giving stuff to you. Makes me want to puke.

While the "it's Bush's fault" muttering is out there I don't think that too many of the usual suspects (I think Jackson sort of mentioned it) spent any time on that narrative because it was too dangerous politically. I think perhaps that the Dem's wanted to get that message out there but no individual democrat wanted to say (and get tarred by it) with any degree of force. Burris won't be running for office in 2010 so maybe they asked him to be the one to get in front of the press with this drivel with Burris hoping that he gets a cushy appointment somewhere after the election.

Yes, we didn't get the Summer Olympics here in Chicago in 2016, and it's Bush's fault. Never mind the fact that the Olympics have never been hosted in South America. Never mind the fact that Rio de Janeiro is an absolutely beautiful city in summer.
These are the same people who cried at the election over the historic nomination, and then presidency of the nation's first black president, but are too arrogant to concede that holding the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro is both historic, and holding to the Olympics overall ideal – bringing the world together through friendly competition. We've held both the Summer and Winter Olympics several times, and North American alone has held the Games twelve out of fifty-one times, for nearly a 25% rate.

The fact that some one with the intelectual capacity of Rowland Burris is a sitting senator just makes me sad for my families future. I say we turn the capital building and all senate and congress offices into public housing. I’d say the cost projection of the failed Obamalympics crony-fest from the Associated Press is vastly underestimated:
President Barack Obama’s failed bid to bring the 2016 Olympic Games to Chicago cost more than a bruised ego.
Taxpayers shelled out probably $1 million or more for the president, his wife and others to fly to Copenhagen and back to woo members of the International Olympic Committee.
A 2006 congressional study pegged the cost of flying Air Force One at $56,518 an hour. The Pentagon recently said it cost $100,219 an hour to fly the huge, reconfigured Boeing 747 without Obama aboard. The Pentagon estimate included more costs for support needs, such as maintenance.
At those rates, the president’s 14-hour trip to Copenhagen and back cost about $790,000 to $1.4 million.
Remember the First Lady flew separately to Copenhagen — adding another estimated $395,000 to $700,000 in flight and maintenance costs alone — before joining her husband on Air Force One for the losers’ flight home.
And remember: Federally-funded Cabinet members on the Chicago Olympics entourage included White House Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett, Education Secretary Arne Duncan, and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.
Then there’s the Air Force One back-up plane, security, and overseas transport of the Obama’s armored presidential limousines.
