Ethics Are Voters’ Top Issue? How Did That Happen…
by PubliusScott Rasmussen’s latest poll findings on the voters’ top issues is pretty interesting:
For nearly two years, economic issues have held the top spot in terms of importance among voters.
But the latest national telephone survey shows that 83% now view government ethics and corruption as very important, placing it just ahead of the economy on a list of 10 key electoral issues regularly tracked by Rasmussen Reports.

Still, it’s a striking change. What caused it? The only thing that has happened in the last couple of weeks that can account for the shift, I think, is James O’Keefe’s and Hannah Giles’ exposure of the incredible depth of corruption to which ACORN, closely identified with government at all levels and the Democratic Party, has fallen. That may also explain why 43% of voters say President Obama has done a “poor” job of “addressing government ethics and reducing corruption.”
Those waiting for the “even one individual can make a difference” number to come up, please come to the window to collect your winnings.

Man in charge of Treasury is confirmed (by a Democrat Senate) with unpaid taxes over $20,000. Nominee for HHS had an unpaid tax bill over twice national average income. Chairman of tax writing committee "forgot" about over a million dollars of income. School Safety Czar thinks sexual assault reporting laws don't apply to him. NEA turned into State Propaganda machine. And that's without even talking about Valerie Jarrett and her slums.
The 57% need to get their heads out of the sand (see I chose to be nice) and open their eyes. This administration makes Nixon look like a choir boy.
I do agree with Beck that corruption is the biggest problem in government, but I don't believe his quarantine idea will work.
We really need anti-corruption laws with bite. There will always be ways around laws but we need to close the loopholes as soon as we find them. We need to get rid of earmarks, make it so bills are readable and at a reasonable length, and I think the president needs line item veto power (with some restrictions like Senators being able to change their vote if it gets abused).
Obviously I don't want Barack to have line item veto ability, but I think, in the long run, it'd be good for the country. And, for heaven's sake, who watches government officials? Do we have any dedicated watchdog's who aren't appointed and controlled by elected officials?
Hell, the IRS should have a branch dedicated to investigating Congress!

Ethics is just the start – we have a congress and senate full of "Jobs for Life". Term limits is what we need. No more life terms. No more Ted's. Complete disclosure on who is funding these candidates as well. No more Soros backed candidates. That is a great start for 2010.

I do believe that many are sick and tired of the corruption in Washington DC but I'm not going to get too excited about the poll results. The real proof that people are truly sick and tired of the corruption can't be found in the polls but in the election booth when people vote these corrupt clowns out of office. I posted a few days ago about getting the little fish then moving up the food chain. Somewhere along the line someone will be hooked that will spill the beans. At the top of the food chain is George Soros, that is the man. I do not know if he will ever be brought down, but he should be the ultimate goal.

My observation is American's will tolerate a lot of mistakes and poor judgement as long as the offender comes clean with a sincere apology. What American's WILL NOT tolerate are continual lies and gross mis-use of our money and attempts to cover it up. Our current Administration and Congress is so filled with liars, fiscal abusers and attempts to cover it up and … WE AIN'T GONNA TAKE IT ANY MORE!
You hit the nail squarely on the head try_again1; I've been preaching term limits to anyone who will listen. Ethics clearly is a high priority and should remain so from this point on. Also, I get the feeling people like Rep. Lindsay Graham, and a few others in the GOP, think it's going to be a cake walk come 2010. And that insult sticks in my craw.

In her speech in Copenhagen today, First Lady Michelle Obama said her trip to Denmark, along with the travel of her "dear friend" and "chit-chat buddy" Oprah Winfrey, as well as tomorrow's visit by President Obama, is a "sacrifice" on behalf of the children of Chicago and the United States. "As much of a sacrifice as people say this is for me or Oprah or the president to come for these few days," the first lady told a crowd of people involved in the Chicago project, "so many of you in this room have been working for years to bring this bid home."
"As first lady, as many of you know, I’ve made it a priority to bridge the gap between the White House and communities across D.C. and across the country," Mrs. Obama continued. "I’ve spent much of my first nine months trying to open the doors to the White House to kids who might not otherwise see themselves having access to these institutions, because that’s where I came from – communities like that where kids never dreamed that they could set foot in the White House, let alone live there…And Barack and I made a point of doing the same thing when we lived in Chicago – making the concerns of kids in all sorts of communities our own."
Mrs. Obama said bringing the Olympics to Chicago is especially important right now because "athletics is becoming more of a fleeting opportunity." "Funds dry up so it becomes harder for kids to engage in sports, to learn how to swim, to even ride a bike," she said. In addition, with childhood obesity on the rise, "it is so important for us to raise up the platform of fitness and competition and fair play," the first lady said.
Finally, having the Olympics in Chicago would be important to "let people know that we understand that sports saves lives, that it makes dreams come true, that it creates visions in kids’ heads to make them think they can be the next David Robinson, the next Barack Obama, the next Nadia Comaneci, the next Oprah Winfrey," Mrs. Obama said.
Surprise, surprise, people are prioritizing ethics as a priority, could it be that in spite of the MSM's efforts to sanitize Obama's Chicago political machine and the useless self-serving critters in Congress that the public is rapidly catching on?

People are starting to realize that ethics and values come FIRST! Everything else is a reflection of those two qualities. If politicians are bound by their values to do what is ethically right, they will produce good legislation that is in the best interest of the American people. Also, they will oppose those pieces of legislation that are not. Even for individual citizens, every action is guided by your morals or lack of them. In turn, the results of your life are dictated by these decisions. Wait a minute… that sounds alot like personal accountability! Whoa…
