NY Times Editor: Paper Was Too Slow to Cover ACORN Scandal
by PubliusFrom New York Times Public Editor Clary Hoyt:
ON Sept. 12, an Associated Press article inside The Times reported that the Census Bureau had severed its ties to Acorn, the community organizing group. Robert Groves, the census director, was quoted as saying that Acorn, one of thousands of unpaid organizations promoting the 2010 census, had become “a distraction.”

Clark Hoyt
What the article didn’t say — but what followers of Fox News and conservative commentators already knew — was that a video sting had caught Acorn workers counseling a bogus prostitute and pimp on how to set up a brothel staffed by under-age girls, avoid detection and cheat on taxes. The young woman in streetwalker’s clothes and her companion were actually undercover conservative activists with a hidden camera.
It was an intriguing story: employees of a controversial outfit, long criticized by Republicans as corrupt, appearing to engage in outrageous, if not illegal, behavior. An Acorn worker in Baltimore was shown telling the “prostitute” that she could describe herself to tax authorities as an “independent artist” and claim 15-year-old prostitutes, supposedly illegal immigrants, as dependents.
But for days, as more videos were posted and government authorities rushed to distance themselves from Acorn, The Times stood still. Its slow reflexes — closely following its slow response to a controversy that forced the resignation of Van Jones, a White House adviser — suggested that it has trouble dealing with stories arising from the polemical world of talk radio, cable television and partisan blogs. Some stories, lacking facts, never catch fire. But others do, and a newspaper like The Times needs to be alert to them or wind up looking clueless or, worse, partisan itself.

"… the Times might winds up looking clueless or, worse, partisan itself."
Ya think?

Again, the New York Times addresses old news everybody already knows way after the fact. Is it any wonder they'll have to eventually close their doors? Maybe if they covered news AS IT HAPPENS instead of burying it for ideological reasons, they might survive. From here, I'm seeing a slow-moving mammoth heading for the tar pits. And I feel no sympathy for the beast AT ALL! It set its own course to its Final Destination.
[Jill Abramson] and Bill Keller, the executive editor, said last week that they would now assign an editor to monitor opinion media and brief them frequently on bubbling controversies.
"Looking" partisan and clueless??? Partisan and clueless you are and have been for years!
I couldn't have said it better myself, I wonder if this will be in the print addition and so wonder where they are on the NEA, Buffy Wilkes etc
"…appearing to engage in…"
I was just outdoors. It appears to be raining. Of course it is dark out, it could be a thousand very quiet fire trucks lightly spraying down everything within a quarter-mile radius of the house.
NYT possibly perceived as partisan? Nah, never happen.
i knew about acorn last year when I was at early voting in Dayton, OH, watching endless parades of people in vans and mini buses with red acorn t shirts herding people like cattle to vote ! everything since then has been a welcome discovery of a corrupt orginization. I stand here today humbled by the task before dofus kamas, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our cheap dofus kamas. I thank President dofus for his service to buy dofus kamas, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition.
Both the conservatives and the Times are full of it. The times for hungrily accepting Barack Obama's ad money, the conservatives for loving the thrashing that Hillary Clinton took at the hands of a guy with a lot of suspicious money behind him and ACORN alongside him.
I guess rule of law only matters when going after the Clintons, not when it comes to defending them against groups like ACORN or MoveON.
Make that trashing, not thrashing. You don't thrash someone who actually won more delegates from all the democratic primary contests, even when Florida and Michigan are included, and only lost because of obviously suspicious tactics in the democratic caucus contests.
What's bizarre about that story is how he's talking about it like he dosen't want to talk about it. That was strange? Hey clark you ever heard of 60 min? They have been doing stings for 30 years. Where you been? Check out MSNBC and you will see stings r us catching men trying to hook up with underage girls on the net. And go look at your local police stings catching JOHNS left and right. Or how about the PRIZE give a ways where the people show up to get their prize only to find out that the police were waiting to get them on a bench warrant. You clowns at The Times need to get out more and see what's going on. You may learn something MAYBE? Maybe not? Stay tuned to FOX NEWS and they will show you what's going on ok? LOL!!! Poor little leftist just can't kill stories like you used to. MARXIST=DEMOCRATS=TERRORIST All the same Ask the TOOL Clark Hoyt. Oh wait don't ask him he dosen't know anything.
At least the Public Editor is acknowledging the screw-ups they made but then again, they're desperate to keep and build readership.
I seriously doubt much will change that the NY Times however. They have been Liberal for longer than I've been alive. I'll give them that they have broken a few negative stories on Liberals but by and far they go after Conservatives.
The bias in their reporting isn't perceived, it's real. Even their Public Editor points this out with how the NY Times first reported on the ACORN story. Instead of reporting the facts, they made it political. "The mean old Republicans are out to get Obama by bashing ACORN" may as well be how the headline read.
I love how facts are only facts when they’re good for liberals. Any fact that harms liberals is “unsubstantiated rumor.” Which is what would obviously happen if you were, ya know, objective and all….
Yeah, it's not like this is the first time (or even the fifty-first time) that the New York Slimes has buried a story for political reasons.
Clark Hoyt just did a pathetic job of trying to cover the NYT's a$$.
get real….news from print is so 20th century….
The NY Times is sad they won't make it in the 21st century….because the web reports the news 24 hours before the print media even gets a sniff of which way the wind is blowing….this spells doom for print media and lower circulation and advertising revenue. Which means fewer employees and lower salaries going forward at the NY Times.
Can you spell bankrupt????
every dofuser needs dofus kamas, but most of them can’t find a good cheap dofus kamas provider, so it’s a problem is they want to buy dofus kamas.now bawwgt will be your best choice on dofus

What a joke. Great "journalism" nytimes …
http://www.teabagbarackobama.com/Store.html
The New York Times, didn't they used to do real news instead of DNC press release distributions?
Trying to rationally argue with a liberal is like pi$$ing with the wind in your face.
did you see where Harry Reid is blocking an ACORN investigation? He says he doesn't want to distract from 'health care' and 'the economy'.
http://motorcitytimes.com/mct/harry-reid-and-the-...
When most of your staff is liberal, you WILL produce biased reporting. Until journalism schools can produce more right-leaning journalists, and until newspapers can somehow seek them out and hire them, this problem will never go away.
According to Mr. Hoyt:
"Conservatives who believe The Times isn’t critical of Democrats forget that the paper broke damaging stories about the personal finances of Representative Charles Rangel and the hiring of prostitutes by Eliot Spitzer."
Of course, Hoyt misses the point entirely. To those of us who aren't drinking the Koolaid, this weak-assed explanation sounds a lot like "Some of my best friends are…", doesn't it?
Because the NYT, like all old media, practice their journalistic malfeasance just as much, or more, through errors of ommission as of commission.
How? For example, just as when they finally got around to covering the Van Jones train wreck, their first coverage of this story was buried on page 16 (maybe deeper – I forget).
And it's pretty weird that in the very next paragraph, Hoyt defends the Times from charges that they ignored the breaking ACORN scandal in the months before the election, while running with their hit-piece on McCain's supposed affair with a campaign worker. In the ACORN case, there was a person on the inside with all sorts of evidence, and a reporter interested enough to pursue the story, and the Times kills it for no good reason. In the McCain "story" they had a rumor that campaign staff were "worried" that McCain and Vicki Iseman were getting too close – no other evidence and certainly no proof, and they go ahead with it the minute he wraps up the nomination. (While totally ignoring the John Edwards comedy, I might add).
Who the hell do they think they're kidding?
"Despite what the critics think, Abramson said the problem was not liberal bias.'
RIGHT… Like I learned as a child…..ACTIONS speak much louder than words. You can say that there is no liberal bias until the cows come home….We American people have seen the ACTIONS of the NYTimes and are paying NO attention to the WORDS. Here is an organization (ACORN) who has been heavily involved in voter registration fraud and now we have videos exposeing HUGE, huge illegal activity, all the while Acorn ispartially funded by tax payer dollars and >>>was due to receive MILLIONS more dollars from the Stimulus Bill (what are stimulating here?) and the NYT does not think all of this is news worthy enough to report….. and they are not liberally biased?? That would be MINE and YOUR hard earned dollars that ACORN was getting and was due to receive for their racket. hmmmm….sounds right to me!! ….Right……
The key word would be objectivity. Even the Enquirer did better then the NYT on the Edwards scandal. You miss a lot when providing political cover.
The NYT was so slow to report this, but reported anything from Jayson Blair at the drop of a hat. Go figure.
Hahahaaa.
Well, AM, since your so concerned about Hill-Dawg's electoral viability, hows about you lobby your party to change it's primary rules?
How utter laughable – not just the pithy excuse offered by Clark Hoyt, but by the fact that he seems to think the NYT is somehow still relevant. Thank you for the morning laugh Mr. Hoyt.
That Krugman, Dowd and Friedman, three of the most boring lefty groupthink hacks in print, will always have a home at the NYT's pretty much sums up the moribund culture there.
That the once journo priestly caste at the NYT's is getting their butts kicked by common riff raff is delightful. The internet has given us front row seats to witness three more years of Obama who will be the most corrupt administration ever in our history with the hacks at the Times arranging the deck chairs on his Titanic. Enjoy it.
Pass the popcorn.
Maybe the reporters shouldn't be courting the president but covering the news ? To much love between MSM me thinks
The New York Times exists in a constant state of 'Denial' (Don't Even Notice I'm Always Lying) because it's primary purpose is not to be a watchdog of Government, but to be the Human Shield for the Imitation Christ that they worship as a god….if Obama and Congress allows for a bailout of the Liberal Newspapers in our country like this Left-Wing rag I will mark it as the first shot fired in the new American Civil War and I will be shooting back.
"Eventually close their doors"? Not if this Congress passes a newspaper bailout. I can see the NYT becoming a nonprofit organization (or are they already?) with tax exempt status. Sort of the NPR of print media. The irony is that they already have the same partisan positions as NPR, they already make no profits, and they are quickly becoming just as irrelevant within the news industry.
these lib papaers are going out of bus.their the propaganda arm for liberals especialy obama thats why hes concidering a news paper bailout on our dime
Sleepless in Seattle?
Meet Clueless in New York………….
Yeah, its a little late for this… the Times has been looking clueless and partisan for a long time.
The Slimes might want to think of employing reading-eye-dogs, may be they won't miss so much so often.
well obama said we should clean up corution in medicare to pay for health care how about taking away the 8 billion out of heathcare bill for acorn wala 8 billion going to a corrupt org saved right off the bat
A respectable article, but after all of the mea culpa….."Abrahamson sais the problem was not liberal bias." They simply have no self-awareness, and have no idea how ridiculous they look to thinking Americans. And oh yes, Dan Rather and Mary Mapes still contend the 2004 National Guard documents might be real………….

Paging Mr. Murdoch
Wouldn't it be nice if progressive asshat Obama lick-spittles like Clark Hoyt and Lil' Pinchy Sulzberger spent less time making transparently lame excuses for why they can't/won't cover the news and more time actually reporting it.
How about just one article as close to accurate as the WaPo's Kathleen Parker's recent "Not Far From the Tree, ACORN and Its Political Seed" before you become completely irrelevant – oooops! Too late!
Environmentalists UNITE, kill the TIMES and save the Earth!!! BTW add LAT and San Fran Chronical. Additionally stop using the word NEWS when referring to these tree killing papers because what they report is not NEW.
[Jill Abramson] and Bill Keller, the executive editor, said last week that they would now assign an editor to monitor opinion media and brief them frequently on bubbling controversies.
In other words, they have to watch Fox News to find out what real news is.
Maybe they could start by not warning the US' enemies of the methods used to track them down, ie financial networks in which the Intelligence Community (and Democrat others) pleaded with them not to publish. American blood is on their hands. And why? Because they hated . . . hated Bush and it helped to take the US 'down a peg.'
The New York Times has become a building rock climbers practice on.
That's a good point, Mr Simpson. The NYT had to have known it was going on and probably even before Giles & O'Keefe were born. The NYT's reporting problem is they, imo, chose to look the other way where crime was involved because they aligned with ACORN's once-hidden ideology.
It is so obvious the reporting is bias. Everyone in the MSM quoted Bertha Lewis, but as journalists, they should have also interviewed any of the ACORN whistleblowers. This in no way is a story of the right wing trying to get to Obama, but a story of corruption, power, fraud, all with the use of taxpayer money. They downplay the embezzlement of money by Rathke. That alone should make them want to ask more questions, but yet they can't past O'Keefe and Giles. They make that the story.
I live in Florida and during the election, one of our local journalists Barbara West interviewed Joe Biden and asked him some very tough questions. She was then blacklisted by the White House and the entire story in the MSM became about Barbara West, who she was, did she have republican backers, etc. No one in the MSM bothered to mention that Biden avoided all questions and the MSM failed to realize that I, as an American citizen, really wanted to know the answers to her questions. That is the point where I stopped watching MSM. I stopped believing anything they said and wrote.
The NYT is to news reporting what Officer Barbrady is to effective law enforcement.
The One has already said he would "consider" bail outs for The Media Formerly Known As Mainstream (we need a symbol!). I concluded long ago that the last best hope for real information and liberty is the internet. TMFKAM became the propaganda arm of the progressives years ago. It's rather fun, in a slightly sadistic way, to watch them floundering now.
Positioning for a government bail out Mr Hoyt?
I was gonna comment on this story ………….
The NYT had a booth at the Solano Stroll in Albany CA a couple of weeks ago. When we walked past it, I commented that it's so quaint to see a buggy whip shop these days.
I never heard the young man and woman who revealed the corruptness of ACORN refer to themselves as "conservative activists" but that is who Mr. Hoyt believes they are. Not concerned citizens or journalists doing what journalists should do, but rather two pesky conservatives going after an organization Republicans have been attacking for years. Even though Mr. Hoyt seems to shake a scolding finger at the NYT, he does it with tongue in cheek.
The New York Slimes didn't want to touch any of these stories (Van Jones, the ACORN stings) for the simple reason that they would wound their dreamy man-crush President Barry. Clark Hoyt's piece is a pretty pathetic attempt at CYA.
ACORN is ideologically sympatico with most members of the MSM fraternity. They helped Obama and they are part and parcel of the left-wing noise machine. More importantly, ACORN helps promote a favorite template of the modern liberal: Corporations/Racists/Republicans/Conservatives are holding back minorities and the poor, so they need groups like ACORN to push back against this unfair facet of American life.
When anybody points out just how corrupt and hypocritical groups like ACORN are, the big media outfits start hyperventelating. It's like telling a five year old that Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny don't exist. A cherished part of the leftist media psyche is damaged, so the MSM ignore it and hope it goes away. Clark Hoyt and the rest of the NYT hopes these stories fall by the wayside so the public can get behind important stories, such as how gob-smackingly wonderful Barack Obama is.
"Paper was too slow to cover ACORN scandal"
No $*** Sherlock!
It takes a while to figure out how "white people" are to blame for the problem.
Good point. It's not "being partisan" that is the problem, it's just "looking partisan".
Goodbye and good riddance New York Times…you just don't matter any more.
"or wind up looking clueless or, worse, partisan itself." Ha ha ha ha hee hee ho ho ho ha ha. . . .
Heck, that's the easy part–Rathke Brothers and Andy Stern (SEIU).
THEY are the owners of the Plantation everyone talks about (even Hillary).
Or how about the 10 billion bailout in the healthcare plan for the unions.
I read the original article by the New York Times. The bias began with the title of the article – Conservatives Draw Blood From Acorn, and was continually strewn throughout. Here are a few samples – "Conservative advocates and broadcasters were gleeful about the success of the tactics…It was, in effect the latest scalp claimed by those on the right…" "The Acorn controversy came a week after the resignation of Van Jones,….led by Glenn Beck of Fox News Channel…" When describing how the videos showed Acorn employees aided and abetted the undercover journalists in establishing a brothel using 13 – 15 year old illegal alien minor young girls as prostitutes, the article simply stated – " Among other questions, they (the journalists) asked how to buy a house to use as a brothel employing under-age girls from El-Salvador." No outrage, no condemnation. Just the facts, Ma'am. No spin here.
The article devotes almost a full page in defense of Acorn. It goes so far as to refer to Bertha Lewis's statement that the journalists "had spent months visiting several offices of Acorn, including San Diego, Los Angeles, Miami and Philadelphia, before getting the responses they were looking for." Since the NYT did not quote Ms. Lewis, I can only assume that they "forgot" that she had mentioned the New York office in that quote as well. Wait a minute, maybe not…. Ms. Lewis issued her statement, which included the New York office, before (a day or so) the New York video came out. The New York video came out on 9/14/2009. The NYT article appeared 9/16/2009. Willful omission? You decide.
Decidedly absent from the article, notwithstanding journalistic objectivity, was a time line of the actual events. A time line that I, a 50 year old mother of two and grandmother of one, with a full time non-journalist job, was able to put together in about, oh…., on the outside – 45 minutes.
As far as I am concerned, this second article (if you can call it that) is simply defensive spin. Whenever a ball is put into motion, it has spin. Baseball/softball may be the most appropriate analogy here. While the rotation of the delivery of a pitch in baseball and fastpitch softball are complete opposites, the physical grip of the ball and the action of the wrist upon release of the ball, determine the type of pitch. Both sports have fastballs, off-speed, curve and breaking (or drop) pitches. Each of these pitches leaves the pitcher's hand with a defined spin. The batter who, until the pitch is put into play, is technically a defensive player, must recognize the type of pitch being thrown and put the bat on the ball in a manner which turns the spin to his/her favor. No mean feat if you've ever been in the batter's box. Which is why a good (better than average) batting average in the MLB is just over .300. For the math challenged – that is less than 30%. In my estimation, the NYT is batting in the .100s, and this 2nd article was just a foul ball.
There's a reason that it is said that the "MSM" (what a misnomer that is, by the way) no longer employs reporters. The people in MSM are not reporters, they are REPEATERS… as in: I am BO: repeat after me….
After reading this article I think we can appropriately coin a new phrase….that phrase being "pulling a Charlie Gibson." Yes, the New York Times "pulled a Charlie Gibson" in feigning ignorance regarding the ACORN scandal. Not only did they "pull a Charlie Gibson", they "acted stupidly".
The New York Times has become an impotent, irrelevant RAG! The sooner they go Belly UP the better. RIP, Slimeballs!
it takes a while to figure out how "right-wing colonialist racist profiteering white people" are to blame for the problem.
mmmm…Barack Hussein Obama….mmmm: new hymn of the NY Slimes
New York Times —- Snail news
Why does anyone even question that the NYT is partisan anymore? They are as shrilly and baldly biased as Keith Oberlman. This is OBVIOUS
iInvestigative reporting by CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, WaPo, NYT
NOTHING – Reverend Wright’s Hate Speech
NOTHING – John Edwards Love Child
NOTHING – Van Jones Far Left Radicalism
NOTHING – ACORN’s Rife Corruption, Criminality
NOTHING – NEA’s Agitprop, Thought-Policing
Lovely acronym! May I use it?
The Grey Lady has been a ho for the DNC for many many years. She shouldn't even try anymore to hide her true allegiance to the dnc over the American public because that just insults the American people more. Go turn your tricks for the dnc dirty ho.
By viewing Fox, Drudgereport, and biggovernment.com as something other than simply competing news outlets, the NYT permitted itself to be "scooped" on story important to the readers of news. Remember, the one with the "real scoop" gets the readers.
WRT the links posted above:
Notwithstanding the rather dim prospect of newspapers being able to convince lawmakers to bail them out – (after all, their financial problems cannot be attributed to the current economic downturn, as they were obviously bleeding money even in the good times [as well as playing games with their circulation numbers in order to rip off their advertisers] ), I believe a newspaper bailout would be great comedy.
I'm for it, if only for the pleasure of reading tools like Mr. Public Editor here explain why, although freed of the burdens of the market, and no longer having to answer to shareholders, they still can't put out something people want to read.
Please, please, please, President Obama.
Woncha bail 'em out?
Alessandro must have forgotten about "Operation Chaos". It was us conservatives briefly changing our party affiliations to vote for……Hillary Clinton during the primaries. We went to all this trouble and all we get from Alessandra is grief. Thanks for nothing,
That the New York Times is biased comes not simply from their lack of awareness about what's going on in right-wing blogs and talk shows but that combined with the fact that they are very aware of what's going on in left-wing blogs and activist groups and regularly write those things up as news stories, even when they have much less of an impact on the real world. Twenty people in a boat protesting for endangered sea life is a big story but at least 70,000 Americans marching in Washington, DC to protest the government or against abortion isn't. They post a story containing pure speculation meant to imply that McCain might be having an affair during the election but don't cover speculation about Barack Obama having a tryst that was covered by the UK press. And when there is a story like the ACORN scandal, the first thing they look for is dirt on the people breaking the story while left wing activist groups like ACORN are never to be investigated for bias, conflicts of interest, or illegal activity. Heck, we can make this easy for the New York Times. How about they just monitor the Newsbusters.org site?
Clark, when the NYT is bailed out and the government owns it, you'll be forced to write articles that support the progressive agenda. I wonder what you'll do then.
They've got a progressive liberal agenda, and they're really confused as to why Americans are no longer tuning in to hear it. They're missing real news stories and writing about their ideals. They've forgotten all about their audience, and their audience is drifting away.
I like barbrady. NYT can eat shat and die.
What about the faux scoops from the classified material leaked by demopigs in an attempt to gain cheap political power at the expense of America's security. Does that count as a scoop??? Scumbags
Justin Pritchard an Associated Press writer did a story on, “How the ACORN pimp and hooker videos came to be.” In the article about O’Keefe and Giles he writes, “each has other credentials that place them squarely in the network of activists who believe liberal-leaning mainstream media willfully ignore stories that illustrate the failings of the political left and its leanings.”
The sense I get from your article is that you are on a witch-hunt for conservative organizations, which shows your bias. Hey Justin, how many stories have you done on the ACORN organization? Have you interviewed the “ACORN eight”? They worked for ACORN and were thrown out of the organization because they brought up the corruption? Have you interviewed Gregory Hall, an ex ACORN employee who says he has evidence about the corruption in ACORN dealing with voter fraud and abuse of their employees? Hall believes the authorities and the press are reluctant to investigate ACORN because they have friends in high places, referring to President Obama. Have you interviewed any of the prosecutors in the states that are investigating and prosecuting ACORN for voter registration and voter fraud?

…..An example of mainstream media not covering ACORN is when Charlie Gibson was asked about them and stated, “ I didn’t even know about it.” You make the argument for them when you state they believe liberal-leaning mainstream media ignore these stories. So, where are the stories? Where are the stories?
The story is ACORN. It is a corrupt organization that received millions of taxpayers’ dollars and should be put out of business. These employees of ACORN had no problem giving advice on setting up a brothel using underage girls 13 to 15 years old, smuggled in the country from El Salvador. Justin, do you not have a problem with underage sex slave trade? ….
….These two patriots who exposed the corrupt organization ACORN to the world are now being sued by ACORN, because of a Maryland Law regarding the taping of conversations.
Congress has recently voted to defund ACORN, the organization has been removed from participating in the Census, the IRS has stripped them of their ability to give out tax advice and there are calls for an independent audit as well as being investigated by the various states for voter fraud. The organization needs to be investigated by the Justice Department and the IRS.
The media/press is supposed to give the facts of the story and be unbiased in their reporting of it; unfortunately, the so-called liberal-leaning mainstream media have not been doing that, especially dealing with the Obama administration. The freedom of the press is guaranteed by the first amendment of the Constitution and with that responsibility the press is supposed to be the watchdogs over the government.

I am glad to see that some of the MSM have acknowledged their penance with being late on the Van Jones and ACORN stories but he fails to speak to an underlying problem… and the very problem that relates to their revenues going down (way down). I cannot say it is the one issue as I believe that one reason is the internet where people can get their news in real time rather than waiting until the next day. But the other obvious issue, as I see it, is that the MSM lives in a bubble. They talk to their friends and co-workers, who live in this bubble, and think this is what America is thinking. And that bubble is a very liberal one. Everyone knows this except, I think, those in the MSM.
But what I cannot understand is how they are missing so many stories. ACORN is not a major story because workers at various offices assist in unorthodox requests, it is a major story because they get tax dollars and more importantly, ACORN is a group that Obama worked for and has stated in a speech, prior to election, that he was going to do their agenda. Well, I don't think their agenda is prostitutes but what da you think??? perhaps the MSM should investigate how a corrupt organization influences Obama. Or what are the ties?
I am no liberal, as is obvious, but I am no conservative either…. (Libertarian)… and I don't care if you hate Glenn Beck (I used to hate the guy)… but he has risen many valid questions and associations. If you hate him, make him into a clown by finding out what exactly is going on and proving him wrong. The press used to be the people's defender against gov't, but now they are an accomplice and part of the machine. Not on purpose… it's just they live in the same bubble.
I would like to see this as a step for the MSM righting itself. I doubt it but let's see… there are lot's of things going on with legislation being pushed down our throats… ask why… why is the NEA with a WH staffer pushing for art for Obama's issues… The one I would like to hear most of all is…. what happened to the Constitution? But let's take baby steps.
Fellow Real Americans- we are so screwed if we don’t rise up and empeach/vote out/bums rush these small-minded hacks. They are ruining us all, this once greatest nation … kiss your kids ‘goodnite’. I won’t stand for it! We are ALL MARINES!
Maybe Andrew should give the NY Times a couple of days notice before the next videos release . . just so NY Times has their keyboards ready. Pssssst . . NY Times . . .get your keyboards ready. Can you spell "Philadelphia?"
I can't speak for all conservatives, but it's certainly not true of any I know, and I live in a suburb of Lalaland. No one I know preferred Obama over Hillary–and don't start in with any of that "yeah, because she's white" crap. It was because Hillary's a liberal (an unmasked and spayed, somewhat domesticated leftist) and a known quantity, while Obama was clearly a sleeper, aiming to slip into office under false pretenses, unchallenged by the press, before springing his trap. And that's what happened.
It's not a trinity, it's a gang of four: you left out Rich.
IMPORTANT!!
Don't take your eyes off congress / senate.
It's obvious that POTUS waited until now to confront Iran, delayed decision on Afghanistan, gave controversial speeches at U.N., imigration AMNESTY, racial speech at the CBC, and many other distractions…. to slide toxic policy in under the radar, or at least with less resistance.
HE IS OVERWHELMING THE SYSTEM!
DON'T BE FOOLED!
WE ARE BEING PLAYED!
ATTEND, OR ORGANIZE RALLIES!
Keep contacting representatives, DO NOT BECOME COMPLACENT!
It will be interesting to see what happens if they try it, since the only conceivable way they could turn into profitable businesses would be if they abandoned their biased practices. But to do that would no be in Obama's favor, so it's not likely he'd push them in that direction. What's left? The Internet excuse? Most papers already have an Internet presence. If iit's failing them now, how's it going to save them after a bailout?
There's also the First Amendment question. Assuming a government bailout brings with it strings attached, how far is that legal? Can Obama order a paper to do anything? In any case, no sane American is going to credit a single word such a paper has to say, so again there's no real possibility of a turnaround.
Seems an awful tough sell to me…of course, that's if they bother to ask us. My ammo's ready, too.
In her "things are not what they seem" explanation, what I take Miss Abramson to be saying is, they've got ten people assigned to scour the liberal blogs for news, but none available for the conservative blogs. Therefore, it's simply a manpower problem. As soon as they can scrape up the money for ten special-abilities, high-school part-timers, they'll be all over it.

Washington Bureau Chief "people need to put the ACORN story in perspective"…. there are more important stories in Washington "Healthcare…" this is straight from the democrat's talking points… its as if he wrote them…
This quote for this guy kind of proves the point. Just keep telling us what we ought to be interested in like all good liberals… Ok, lets make the story about healthcare. The President claims he will be able to help fund his healthcare proposals in large part by "cutting waste, fraud and abuse". Why not start with ACORN? Why not demonstrate how ACORN is part of the Dem's message machine related to passing their version of state run healthcare? Liberals don't get it. The Washington Chief is just not smart enough to see why others connect these things together. Keep drinking the Kool Aide.
I actually went and read the full article. My sons give me less excuses for their bad behavior than Mr. Hoyt gave for not covering the ACORN story.
Aside from the public editor, everyone else sounds like an echo chamber. "We're not biased." Ask a fish "how's the water" and he replies "what water?"
On the other hand, it sounds like they're going to make sure they're on top of breaking stories the same way everyone else does – by reading them elsewhere from the folks who break them.
Of course, it public domain, I didn't make it up but when I first heard it i was struck by it's simplicity and power…enjoy!
Let's see Clark Hoyt was to late. Charlie "I'm smarter than you" Gibson didn't even know anything about it. The loons Olbermann and Mathews are too busy getting tingly feelings up their legs. Down is too busy proving that she is an idiot! Krugman and his ilk are LEFT WING LOONS! The sad simple fact is nformed people have known about the rampant fraud at acorn for months. So just to clarify:
1. The mainstrem media isn't too late. Some of the left wing loons haven't even reported on it at all!
2. The mainstream media is not unaware. Nobody, not even the MTV crowd is that uninformed.
3. THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA IS IN DENIAL. They have an agenda, and it is FAILING MISERABLY. JUST LIKE THEIR RATINGS. Hey mainstream, let me quote one of your left wing heroes dingy harry: "I HOPE YOU GO OUT OF BUSINESS"!
The WSJ weighs in on the NYT's duplicity:

OK Mr. Irrelevant Media Editor here’s how you can make amends for willfully ignoring one of the biggest stories to come out of Washington since Watergate. You MUST start reporting conservative sides to the issue, you MUST stop putting caveats like “conservative activist”, “right-wing extremist”, “mob”, etc…after anyone’s name who is not left-of-center, You MUST recognize that regurgitating Democratic Talking Points is not news, You MUST recognize that half of this country doesn’t believe in what you believe and you HAVE to cover their side too. This used to be called journalism. Now the Irrelevant Media are just shills for the Democrat Party and we all know it. You got caught with egg all over your face and I love it that all it took was a 20 yr old and a 25 yr old with chutzpah…something “journalists” have been lacking for years.
Gee, maybe there is a change at a job for me….. help the Times find some news stories. Um…how about the Ohio case filed in Oct 2008 on voter fraud naming Acorn and their groups. The suit names each state the fraud was committed in…heck I'll make it easy for them by providing the link so they don't even have to "waste their time" digging up the truth.

The Times people are so out of touch…they are not a Newspaper, they are nothing but a bunch of silly people who are making excuses for their lack of job performace in delivering the news!
