**UPDATE** Group Stands Ground Over Claims That NBC Employee Issued Anti-Semitic Email

The increasingly hysterical responses by NBC news boss Steve Capus to the escalating Stonegate Scandal are disappointing at best and chilling at worst. Here is a man who runs what used to be a highly respected major news bureau who now finds himself conjuring up gremlins in cyberspace to defend what appears to be horrendously bigoted behavior within his own news room.
Having spoken directly with Mr. Capus for nearly 15 minutes Friday afternoon, I want to once again repeat my offer to him: if you really don’t believe that Ms Stone sent the “Bite me, Jew boy” email to ALG staffer Alex Rosenwald, we will be happy to work with you to track down who sent it from her Blackberry using her email address.
This is precisely the same offer I made to Ms Stone at 11:00AM Friday morning, when she denied having sent any such email to Alex Rosenwald. Now, Mr. Capus has changed her story to say that, yes, she sent an email on Thursday, but it did not say “Bite me, Jew boy.”
Again, we are more than willing to help NBC resolve its internal problems, but Mr. Capus needs to work with those trying to ferret out the full story, not against, us. Tom Brokaw, one of Mr. Capus’s closest friends has said of the NBC news boss, “He does have a little bit of a hair trigger. He could blow. But I could always walk in and close the door and say, ‘Take a breath.’ “
My message to Mr. Capus now is, “Take a breath, and let’s try to get to the bottom of what has now become of your once-respected news organization.”
Mr. Clews is the Director of Communications for Americans for Limited Government, the group that exposed the NBC email.

It displays a sense of humor of the sender only if she is friends with the recipient. Considering the fact that Maureen Dowd doesn't even need to hear words to know the person is thinking them, a person actually using a phrase like that (especially in a news room), is displaying less wit than they are proof of tone-deafness.
Also, if her intent was a joke, why did she deny sending it?
Because Eric Cartman quotes are always professional, not bigoted, and are appropriate to send to people you don't know? Huh?
If the left had played fair all these years it wouldn't matter but they call out conservatives even on imagined slurs. This is the world they created.
It took me a minute to get there, but when I did, I got a good laugh!
Here's probably what happened: Person got e-mail from ALG and they showed a leftist friend or two and they laughed about responses they could send. Hardy har har type of stuff. They were laughing asses off about the "jew boy" comment and it got sent by mistake.
I suspect in a day or so this person will admit it came from the sender's device but it was not meant to be sent and that they are sorry.
Will person be disciplined? I doubt it. After all, it was just a "joke". Somehow, it will be turned against ALG and Mr. Rosenwald by the left and NBC.
Maybe Tina Faye can star on a new series called "Let's Make Jokes About Jewboys" with special guest appearances by Louis Farrakhan and Rev. Wright . Mr. Obama can pop through a door or a window ala Laugh In a throw a few zingers out, also.
It's got possibilities.
It did seem to me that the protest was a bit much yesterday. Kinda made me think there was a degree of guilt behind all the blatant protestations of perceived grievance. lol
This is all surreal. Are there no professionals left in the news business? I mean, really. Any one working in the media knows that today our culture is such that NOTHING is private anymore. You can't tweet, Facebook, myspace, blog, etc without someone somewhere finding it. Even if its scrubbed Google caches it all, so you can't really cover your tracks. Even knowing this, its just so much easier to say "look, I'm human. I responded rashly and I apologize." Then it goes away. And if Ms. Stone didn't send the text message, then she and her boss should be 100% behind finding out who did. (Incidentally, this episode is a great example of how NOT racist we are. If we were still divided by race, this remark would be absolutely unremarkable. Because we are so past this crazy set of divisions we are appalled by the remark. Just a thought.)
This is the stuff that conspiracies are made of. You know, I am beginning to see a pattern here. Acorn gives the appearance, if not engaging in actual illegal behavior, gets caught and blusters. The NEA allows itself to be tainted by politics and used as a propaganda machine, gets caught and blusters. Someone texts a rude, ugly, and frankly foolish text message, it makes news, and they bluster. In every single case, if the party in question could have made it all go away by 1) admitting there was an issue and, 2) doing something visible to fix the problem.
Doesn't anyone learn from their mistakes anymore??

ALG should post the header information from the original email. This will allow independent IT sleuths to review the material. If the email did come from NBC servers then the independent review will provide anyone with the confirming information they need to contact NBC to ask them to investigate their communications model.
The back and forth trading of statements is just a show. Post the header information.
I agree with 'dragonash.' This is the first thing that came to my mind as well. I can easily imagine Ms. Stone was showing the email she received to some friends, and they were joking around typing in their imaginary responses…then oops…the 'send' button was accidentally hit. No excuses here, but bad taste which should be fessed up to quickly along with an apology. (Isn't it great Ms. Stone taught an 'Ethics in Journalism' class? Just think about the journalists w/o ethics!)
Why learn from mistakes? That would lead to unexpected results. For example, Charlie Rangel might resign the chairmanship of his tax-writing committee. Or, Barack Obama could fire the czars and disband his shadow cabinet that is not accountable to Congress. Or, heaven forbid, the government could stop driving the US into bankruptcy. All these possibilities are just too awful to contemplate.
This is Saturday.
We need to keep a good sense of humor.
Frankly, this whole NBC brouhaha is simply much ado about nothing. A distraction.

Contact GE & demand an investigation. Relevant email contacts: ombudsperson@corporate.ge.com, Directors@corporate.ge.com, ir.contacts@corporate.ge.com. GE has spent millions on ads to try to refurbish their image & this type of behavior negates that effort. Glad I don't own GE stock. Another angle is the cozy relationship between Obama, Immelt and GE……

Of course NBC isn't going to cooperate and take ALG's offer to assist in finding out who may have sent the e-mail. They know exactly who sent it and an investigation will only force them to admit what we all here already know.

I just do not understand why ALG or NBC will not show the e-mail WITH THE COMPLETE HEADER INFORMATION. The issue would be resolved in 2 minutes. Since it is ALG who is making the allegation and they are the direct recipient of the e-mail in question, I think it is incumbent upon them to publish the COMPLETE e-mail.
But the ball back in NBC's court and make them prove that the allegations are false. With the evidence that is currently available to the public, both sides are looking foolish.
AND, folks on both sides of the political spectrum would be wise to keep their mouths shut and their powder dry. This is not a political debate of nuanced positions. It is a simple (and very provable) case of SOMEONE IS LYING. When the facts are published, one side or the other is going have lost a tremendous amount of credibility.
If Ear Leader or Madame Botox want to sneak something past, they will see to it that some chest-y celebrity of some fame manages to die right then. Fox will be on it like, well, a fox on a chicken coop. Fox does a pretty good job, but if you throw them some T&A (and I don't mean the truck stop chain), they will chase it to the ends of the earth.

Questions for NBC management, which could be answered in minutes by its IT department:
1) Why has Ms. Stone not provided a photograph of the BlackBerry showing her sent email?
2) Why has NBC not provided a full copy of Ms. Stone's sent email with its complete set of email headers?
3) Why has NBC not provided a screencap of the Microsoft Exchange Administration Panel showing Ms. Stone's message?
4) Why has NBC not provided a snippet of its mail gateway server log for the email in question?
5) Why has NBC not provided a screencap of its data-loss prevention system, showing Ms. Stone's message?
Any one — or, better yet, a combination of these would provide first-pass validation of NBC's position.

Even if we believe the claim that she didn't say "Bite me, Jew boy!" but instead said "Take me off this list!" it's just as outrageous. Shouldn't we expect a news organization to be able to tolerate press releases? What kind of news can NBC produce if their employees get in an ideological huff and demand not to be sent press releases from organizations with different views? That last question is rhetorical, because we already know what kind that produces: crappy and one-sided news.
That and how many "professionals" do you know that quote cartoon Eric Cartman in text messages?

You know DeVan, while I partially agree with you, what about the millions of people that GE employs worldwide who have nothing to do with the ridiculousness going on with Immelt, Obama, and NBC. Carter Clews is like one of those comic book names. It sticks out. The reason I remembered it is because Clews was behind a conservative e-mail list called “Laptop Lobbyist”. It was one of the efforts from the right to have their own version of MoveOn, but it was mostly a way for people like Clews to get the most gullible of right-wing activists to pay money (about $20)to send a “blast fax” on the hot issue of the day. Nice racket if you can get it.

Actually, independant IT could not investgate, header or not. You need either law enfocement entry or voluntary cooperation of the parties. Voluntary cooperation is what NBC is refusing. "Man should know his limitations…" to quote Dirty Harry, and we on our side have great limitations on the system. We should keep nailing NBC for refusing to cooperate.
So here is my takeaway– if I had a shadow of a doubt that someone was spoofing my e-mail I would be in semi-panic mode. If she really didn't send it she should be super concerned that someone has hacked into her e-mail and managed to send out e-mails with her address. As to the header information, maybe Alg is keeping it private to protect her privacy and not enable others to hack into the Nbc server. But the real proof of guilt to me is their unwillingness to find out how someone used their server and their reporter's blackberry, which is probably provided by Nbc, to send a phony e-mail. That should be of grave concern to Nbc which probably spends hundreds of thousands if not millions a year to protect the integrity of its Internal communication system. The headline should be Nbc or Ge servers hacked. But it isn't. And that leads a reasonable person to believe that the reason the headline is the denial is that the denial is false. They are acting like they have no reason to believe their server was hacked. Which means she sent the e-mail

the point of the post is that this man has a history of dubious unethical behavior and I take his claims with a grain of salt.
Yet, GE is in good and tight with the Obama administration. They've already gotten their bailout, so I guess they think that they can say anything they want.
I think some background info is a reasonable thing to post. This thing seems like a scam to me, but I could be wrong. Here's a little more background:
In 1989, Clews Communications declared bankruptcy, with debts of $59,190 to creditors of which it was only able to pay 22%. Clews went to work for the Blackwell Corporation, a television production company headed by Neal B. Freeman, and then went on to work for Inphomation Communications Inc., a Baltimore-based marketing company that produced the Psychic Friends Network infomercials (fronted by Dionne Warwick) for several years before eventually going bankrupt. In 1995, the National Infomercial Marketing Association gave Clews a "best infomercial writing" award for his work for Inphomation on an infomercial for a fishing product called "Helicopter Lure."
After reading all the negative comments about NBC and the mainstream media it's kind of funny to think that the person making the accusation against them is a former producer+writer of infomercials, such as the Dionne Warwick Psychic Friends hotline. I mean , that's got to be a credible source, right? If there is anything lower than regular tv it's infomercials, surely both political sides can agree on that.
So people with lower status, lower paying jobs are never to be believed when they complain about abuses from their bosses or other people higher in the food chain?
My sympathies are with ALG, but I'm growing increasingly skeptical at the organization's refusal to post the e-mail with headers etc. You can't expect anything better from NBC, the network that is home David Letterman and his statutory-rape gags. The e-mail was addressed to Bill Wilson, not Alex Rosenwald according to your copy. The e-mail address from Jane Stone at NBC Universal is bogus and not valid. We were promised that a copy of the e-mail with the headers would be provided…we're waiting. Manufactured outrage for dummies.
Clarification — The original story is Miss Stone replied "Bite Me Jew Boy" but the original e-mail came from Bill Wilson and NOT Alex Rosenwald. So much for replying. Where is the e-mail we were told we would be provided this morning showing the e-mail with the headers on it to explain how a "replied" e-mail from Bill Wilson ended up in Alex Rosenwald's inbox. An e-mail from a guy named Bill Wilson wouldn't exactly get a "jew boy" response since Wilson isn't exactly a Jewish name.
Without the complete header of the email (including the complete IP traceroute), it is impossible to trace from where it came or determine if it is legit. As a software engineer, it would take me about 15 minutes to to send the exact same email from President Obama to Prime Minister Bibi. She may have actually done this, but I would tread lightly without more technical information.
But, but…she’s a “progressive” Hasn’t she received the memo that “Progressives” like Jews. I’ve asked this before and I’ll ask it again…how in the h–l can there be liberal Jews? Seems like an oxymoron to me.
OK kids blacks can be racists and progressives can be anti-semites. Thus endeth the lesson, time for recess.

It's pretty easy to forge an e-mail, it's even easier to prove it was forged becasue of electronic trails that NBC or the other group would have no control over.
Since NBC is stonewalling anyone and everyone from looking at the data I am leaning towards "not a forgery" at this point.
Most likely the boss asked and was told no, then asked and was told yes but not the what was claimed, then found out that oops, the original e-mail was modified and we are hosed.
I will laugh if they go to court because a forensic detective will have this figured out in about an hour and then whoever is playing fast and lose will lose a lot of money

As a Jew, it troubles me that the text message “Bite me Jew boy!” was apparently sent from your BlackBerry handheld to a political activist on Thursday, Sept. 24 of this year. You may not be aware that Thursday falls squarely in the middle of the Days of Awe, the holiest period of the Jewish liturgical year. The anti-semitic message, hurtful at any time, is especially galling at this time of year.
I urge you to provide your complete and unstinting cooperation to Alex Rosenwald of Americans for Limited Government in tracking down the person or persons responsible for this outrage, and to ask your superiors at NBC News to do likewise. After all, the connection of this message to your personal electronic device means that your own reputation is on the line in this matter.

BUFORD you are wrong!! ALL LIBERALS NO MATTER THEIR COLOR believe that they should get a pass on their bigotry,racism,and hatred just because they are liberals. The reason they believe this is because they DO GET A PASS by other liberals and the MEDIA ELITE OF AMERICA because they are one of them.
I have only one question about this apparent lapse of human compassion on Ms. Stone's part; what made NBC (a subsidiary of G.E.) react this way? A reaction of this magnitude would imply that GE or NBC has some kind of emotional, political or perhaps economic investment in ACORN.

Americans for Limited Government has chosen to launch an outrageous, reckless attack and smear campaign against an NBC News employee. Faced with irrefutable evidence that our employee did nothing more than ask to be removed from an email mailing list, the organization has maliciously published a fabricated email.
Our employee never sent any such email. She is completely innocent of the outrageous charges and is being used by an organization to make a self-serving point. This is a shameless, hateful and defaming act which should be roundly denounced.
