Columbia Journalism Review Q and A with Liberal Historian Rick Perlstein on ACORN:
As the recent scandals surrounding the green-jobs advocate Van Jones and the community organizing group ACORN have shown, even under a Democratic White House and Congress, the conservative media have an ability to place a story on the national agenda. Those episodes have also prompted some mainstream media outlets to examine their own practices. A recent column by Washington Post ombudsman Andy Alexander reported that the paper’s executive editor, Marcus Brauchli, pressed his staff for more ACORN coverage; Brauchli was also quoted expressing the concern “that we are not well-enough informed about conservative issues. It’s particularly a problem in a town so dominated by Democrats and the Democratic point of view.”
This relationship between “conservative issues” and national issues more broadly is one that’s been of interest for some time to Rick Perlstein, the author of Nixonland and Before the Storm. A leading liberal historian of the conservative movement, Perlstein’s work has won respect from some leading conservatives; writing for CJR, he once praised the late journalist Paul Cowan for his sensitivity to the “dignity and value” of conservative subcultures. But Perlstein has also chastised the media, in the pages of the Post, for being too sensitive to conservative criticisms….
…The Post’s irresponsibility when it comes to ACORN is symbolized by the fact that the word “Drudge” doesn’t show up in that article. The idea that this guy Andrew Breitbart [a protégé of Matt Drudge, and the founder of Big Government, the Web site that presented the ACORN videos] is just floating out there in the ether as some kind of independent conservative activist—he’s a very powerful person, in a lot of ways he might be more powerful than ACORN.

It’s Brietbart Plus the TRUTH that is more powerful than ACORN.
I think Andrew might take um bridge to being considered a "protege" of Matt Drudge. I believe it was Andrew who helped Matt setup his site. As well as Arianna Huffington's site, BTW. He was a content delivery guru before he was "the most powerful man in the universe".
At the risk of soounding like a commercial for Andrew Breitbart, he is, without doubt, a brilliant man and journalist with more forethought and critical thinking and timing than ANY LEFTIST pundit or MSM news rag could ever hope to attain. Sheer brilliance ! They scatter like cockroaches and Breitbart will keep them scurrying for months to come. Kudos Andrew….

It is ALL of US, who still love this American dream, and who will not go down without a fight. Andrew should be careful. Acorn and her cohorts in Congress may try to shut down this website. The gravy money train is leaving without them.
Brietbart sounded like a horse's ass on Hannity's radio show on Monday trying to describe the NEA scandal story to Hannity's listeners. In response to whether the White House could have broken the law, Brietbart rambled about how "well, I'm not a legal person, uh… law-talking guy, uh… or lawyer, but I have been speaking to legal people about it." Seems like he should've described what federal "anti-lobbying" law was purportedly broken before making the accusation. I didn't know it made a sound, but I think I heard the act of grasping at straws over Brietbart's phone line.
Wasn't it George Will who suggested laws were broken?
It’s simply Andrew’s curiosity and natural instincts filling a void that the MSM has abandoned, speaking truth to power. Real probing of the monstrosity that is Washington is way overdue, hats off Mr. Breitbart keep up the good work.

Amazing. Almost overnight Big Government went from an insignificant blog the MSM ignored to the same as a billion dollar group with high powered connections to the Congress and The White House.

Yes George Will did suggest laws were broken and they probably were don't hold your breath for an indictment.
If Will did indeed write that, I wonder if Brietbart actually read the column so he would've been able to adequately articulate it. When he was speaking on the radio, I thought that he was actually the college-aged kid who dressed up in the pimp halloween costume.

Information is power. The mainstream media is rendering itself powerless by ignoring glaring corruption and incompetence in the White House and Congress. Breitbart is just brandishing the power of the information that is out there to be had. Breitbart is just one man like anyone else, but we are very appreciative that he is giving us the truth.
This site and the movement it is helping to coordinate is certainly more than ACORN can handle.
And we all owe Andrew Breitbart a debt of gratitude for that.

The MSM used to be able to ignore and/or hide that which they didn't like, or which was "bad" for the damned Dems.
Journalism, REAL, INVESTIGATIVE journalism died long ago, but truly was lowered into the ground during this past primary and election season, as well as for all of the presidency of the empty suit Affirmative Action president.

I think this article should be renamed to "Are the American People More Powerful Than ACORN?" and the answer to it is a resounding YES!!! Let's not forget that this is a non-partisan issue (at least it ought to be) and both sides of the isle should be concerned about the corruption taking place in ACORN. For a long time I didn't really care about political issues because it didn't seem important to me and usually remained silent. But now with the way things are going, I and many of the American people have finally woken up and realize that we need to make our voices heard! We have to keep it up too or else yet another stance of apathy by WE THE PEOPLE will result in the politicians sweeping more corruption under the rug.

You can't make this stuff up!!!! Filing a lawsuit against individuals who uncovered corruption, unbelievable. Where are our representatives and why are they not screaming at the top of their lungs? Those who stay on the sidelines will by next election have plenty of spare time on their hands.
There have been several posts on both Big Government and Big Hollywood about the laws that were possibly broken. A group of senators has just written the NEA chairman about the laws that were possibly broken. If you've got a government (i.e., White House) representative urging artists to promote political art, you're breaking a lobbying law. Did that happen? It appears it did.

Unfortunately, that isn't true YET! Acorn has spent years digging their grubby toenails into our government. Regular Americans were sleeping, not realizing the extent of what was happening. BUT, Breitbart is waking them up. Soon, Acorn will just be a smudge on the toilet paper of history.
Here is the beauty of what Andrew did. Opening the doors so that anyone may see what is really going on. Look at the place Andrew created? How many of you now come here almost everyday? Great appreciation to Mr. Breitbart for his courage, but aside from his guts, it has served Americans greatly to have truth on his side. There is power in men, but power in TRUTH is far nobler and far-reaching. Mr. Breitbart has understood that in the light of truth, deceivers and manipulators cannot hide in the shadows anymore. Truth has flushed them out and now they are trying still to hide in corners that will not provide cover for very long.

His argument boils down to: 'the Modern Liberal journalist complex (excluding himself of course) are either too incompetent or cowardly to "tell the truth without fear or favor" once intimidated with the exposure of their liberal guilt by the manipulative strategeries of more powerful minds such as Andrew Breitbart, Hannah Giles & James O'Keefe.

ACORN is “a marginal group”? In who’s world? ACORN was going to be involved in gathering the census data in 2010, they were slated to get billions of dollars, that’s BILLIONS of dollars from the stimulus package. We all know that with ACORN’s history of fraud their census gathering would be totally fraudulent. This would have resulted in gerrymandering of districts all over the country that would have resulted in thousands of Democrat favored districts being created and you know it. Obama and ACORN are tied at the hip. Go ahead CSJ and Irrelevant Media keep to your meme that you are big daddy talking to the kids. The “kids” will continue to ignore you for the new media where we will learn the truth for a change. I find it fascinating that ACORN would even consider a lawsuit against anyone. This is the 'Institution' that refused to 'open it's books'…now, it HAS to. This is the 'Institution' that is already under investigation for registering dead people to vote, for blocking non-Obama voters entry into various presincts, encouraging prostitution, child sex slaves, providing entry and housing for illegals…oh, I could go on………..
The fact that members of the administration are willing to…overlook those nasty little facts and go after the two young journalists is the last straw. Because of the administration's actions, we can now rest assured that they ABSOLUTELY knew all about what ACORN was doing. It'll be interesting to see what other embarrassing films will be released before this is over.
One question: If Maryland has a law that there must be consent before being filmed, how many individuals who happened to catch…oh, I don't know…a crime in progress – on their cell phones – are being investigated by the state? Just sayin'……………
