Charles Lipson: Independent Prosecutor for ACORN

ACORN is in very deep, very public trouble, and the U.S. attorney general should appoint an independent prosecutor to investigate. What we know so far is due entirely to two amateur reporters, James E. O’Keefe III, 25, and Hannah Giles, 20, who managed to videotape a web of corrupt practices in ACORN offices. Dressed as a pimp and prostitute, O’Keefe and Giles walked into ACORN offices from New York to California and simply asked for business advice. ACORN officials were happy to provide it and were secretly recorded explaining exactly how to evade the law and scam the government. The tapes were riveting. Fox News rolled out a new one each night for a week, creating a firestorm of outrage and a burgeoning political scandal.
ACORN employees, without raising an eyebrow, much less calling the police, explained how the young sex workers could label themselves “performance artists,” underreport their income, evade taxes, fraudulently buy a house to ply their trade, and, worst of all, import underage girls from Central America to use as child prostitutes. One ACORN employee helpfully explained that the teenagers would even be tax-deductible since they would be “dependents,” living in the pimp’s house. Some states, led by California, are saying they will investigate. But this is a national scandal and there ought to be a full-scale national inquiry. To ensure impartiality — and the appearance of impartiality — political appointees at the U.S. Department of Justice should recuse themselves. This case demands an independent federal prosecutor.

After the thugs in Philadelphia were let go, despite all evidence pointing to voter intimidation, Holder cannot be trusted. I think we should start another "astroturf" movement to have Hannah Giles and James O'Keefe pardoned for any crimes they may have committed obtaining the videos. We should make sure these two are not used as political pawns. They are American heroes, who saved us millions of taxpayer dollars.

I would be surprised if an independent prosecutor is appointed. They will likely be investigated by cozy insiders, only to come back in a "reformed" form. As long as there is tax money to be had, these people will be there to work the system.

Just a short time ago, we were looking at playing catchup against a team way ahead in the first quarter. Their offense seemed to falter, they went to the ground game, and pushed hard against us as they tried to push over one more score. Our defense was stiffening, but they were deep in the red zone, and we were not coordinating well. We were in shock.
OUT OF NOWHERE, two rookies came out of nowhere, took the ball away, ran it in deep, and put the opposing team into chaos. Chaos so deep its a game changer. So powerful, they will probably lose…

Let us not go there. These two young people did nothing more or nothing less than "60 Minutes" or Rivera or Woodward and Bernstein. None of whom were prosecuted for their exposes. If the powers that be want to prosecute them, I say, bring it on. Everyday Americans will support them, an eager attorney will represent them, and DISCOVERY wlll bring ACORN down.
With enough public pressure (and thats us!) I think an investigation by the Justice Department will happen, much to Obama’s chagrin.

What would be the scope of an investigation? It’ll be pretty narrow if it ever happens, because this all ties together: ACORN, Obama, Ayers, Alinsky, Cloward and Piven, SEIU, Frank Marshall Davis, George Soros, and pretty much every worldwide Communist movement from WWP on down through history to Khruschev and Marx.
An investigation? All they have to do is read. I don’t think it will happen. Whatever happens will be a sideshow, or not at all. This knot will not be unravelled by those who comprise its threads.

As a fellow Christian, I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you, as so many other folks here have also told you, that repeatedly spamming this forum with your website is considered quite rude in all forums. Soros can cyhanel money to them thru American Progress and John Podesta an ACORN board member. Since the election cycle is over, ACORN is insolvent and withoput cash flow. Census money was counted on to feed the serpent.

Is this a serious question? "Investigate whether they violated laws prohibiting tax-exempt organizations from engaging in partisan politics." It doesn't require an investigation to determine this! Bertha Lewis says herself that the organization is being pursued because it is associated with progressive politics, labor organizing and the Obama administration's health-care initiative. This administration does not represent Americans, only liberal Americans. The Attorney Generals office is a joke. Justice is not applied equally and fairly. Just who in this country can do a "FAIR" investigation. The enemy is inside the gate and unless we manage to somehow have an honest election in 2010 and 2012 (and getting rid of ACORN is a start) game over politically speaking . We simply have no one in power that will bring to justice those that help keep them in power. As far as Obama is concerned it's pay back time for evil America.

Did you see all the people in DC on 9/12? That was just a FRACTION of the people who WANTED to go or COULD go. Plus, at that point, the ACORN scandal was in the beginning stages, with the first video being released only two nights before. The complete outrage we all feel now, wasn't in us at that point. But now, I think people would sacrifice anything they had to to get to Washington, and I think employers would allow people that time, and in fact they might just close up shop and get their own caravan organized! This is MAJOR, and will change history! You can bet that fifty years, a hundred years from now, everyone will be reading about James and Hannah in their History books.
I know it's tough to go against the machine in Chicago, but someone has to tell the truth about the corruption and misuse of taxpayer dollars. More importantly, someone needs to do an indepth analysis and report on the inner cities poor High School graduation rate on the Southside of Chicago — less than 50%, although better then Detroit's 25% graduation rate. Where has Obama and ACORN been the past 20 years addressing this issue? Aren't they concerned about poor parental guidance and parenting these young students should get through high school?? Isn't this what a community orgaizer should be concerned with?? Especially, given the high gang shootings, drug dealing, and black-on-black crimes?? OH….I forgot, they were only focused on getting grants, donations, HUD money, Teachers Union donations (I find this most interesting?), Block Grants to rehab Affordable Housing (more corruption), etc. to feed their bogus 501 (c) non profit (really??) organiztaion to supposedly counsel the uneducated, criminal element on how to game the system, buy a house they simply could not afford with subprime loans, and most of all — avoid reporting illegal income to simply not pay taxes.

To borrow another page from the ACORN playbook, how about finding out who the organization’s main donors are, publicize their names, and let them know our displeasure? The information shouldn’t be hard to find. If Congress can defund ACORN, so can private donors and foundations.

There are a lot of really powerfull people involved here.Obama is commander in chief of Acorn.He gives his speeches to his socialists organizations namely unions.SEIU is a very powerfull union with people in Obama's White House.Two brothers head Acorn and SEIU.If there really was a legitimate investigation a lot of powerfull people would fall.I don't see that happening.Some money will be taken away,some people will be thrown under a bus and it will go back to business as usual.Career politicians need to be voted out and I don't see that happening.
