Boehner: Make ‘Defund ACORN Act’ a Stand-Alone Bill

The House and Senate each passed bills this week that would strip ACORN of taxpayer money, but it may not be so easy to halt federal funding for the scandal-plagued community organizing group.
The measures to de-fund ACORN won the support of both Republicans and Democrats, but they were passed as amendments to separate, unrelated bills — setting up a potentially drawn-out process to reconcile the differences in the legislation.
But since the anti-ACORN measure has bipartisan support, why not simplify?
That’s the idea behind Republican House Minority Leader Boehner’s push for a stand-alone vote to ensure that taxpayer dollars will no longer be used to fund the organization, which has been reeling from a scandal involving undercover videos that purport to show ACORN workers advising a couple posing as a pimp and prostitute on how to skirt the law.

When in this country did we start accepting the complicity of Slave Trade. When in this country did the President of these United States not come out in strong opposition to funding anyone involved even in the discussion of Slave Trade. I was glad to see that my democratic rep voted with the republicans to defund ACORN. For those of you whose "representatives" voted against, you might want to give them a call and find out why they support continuing to fund child sex slavery. I'd sure like to know.

I think it was Dick Morris who said he'd never even think of having campaign money go to ACORN for fear of "catching something". I think that The One simply feels above consequence. He think's he's untouchable.
Quite frankly, it is one thing for Boehner to stand up and take the lead in this matter; further it is about time for Mitch McConnell to make a stand in the Senate and institute a formal investigation. McConnell is Senate Minority Leader and it is time for both houses to lead. Thus far, they have been playing catch-up, running two or three steps and several days behind FOX News, Glenn Beck, Brietbart and Biggovernment.com. The current elite career politicians can no longer demand the respect of the great unwashed; the masses have awakened from a generational slumber, and we will not take it any more. For US to respect our leaders, they must now do something to gain and earn OUR respect. Anything less constitutes further abdication of their collective responsibilities. They have taken an oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution; from all enemies, foreign and domestic. The enemy is here; it is among US, and constitutes nothing less than an Act of Domestic Terrorism. What else could this Militant Revolution be called?
ACORN is merely the tip of the iceberg, they need to open Hearings on ACORN and all the nefarious Liberal Fascist Militant orginazations involved, including the Gamaliel Foundation. The truth will be shocking!
Note: I have posted something similar in other comment threads…but I think this ties in with this post…what Boehner is doing is critical…the Democrats need to be tied to the organized crime syndicate they have created, this is a government funded mafia. The liberal mindset and its natural outgrowth as glimpsed in these videos, Van Jones, Reverend Wright is the target. Freeze it. Personalize it. Polarize it.

Most of the representatives know for a fact that the Acorn dollars will sneak back in without fanfare as postscript to another Omnibus/Porkulus bill. It's about time that someone stated that this bill was part of the Education bill in the House. That's the only way it was passed by so many DEMS – if it were stand alone, we would see their trur colors then. The Education bill in essence, a takeover of all private college loans so that only the gov't could sell college loans in 6 months. It's wrong.
Part of the problem is that the Majority leaders are the ones who set the schedule of what will be discussed. This doesn't bode well for any Republican bill set forth.
Alinskey, Ayers, Rathke, ACORN, Gamaliel Foundation, Obama; it is all there in black and white. Why doesn't anyone in the media pick up on it. It is nothing less than the fabled mythical Hydra……..

Boehner has the right idea. This has to be a separate bill, otherwise, the Obamunists will nix it in committee to reconcile the different bills coming from the Senate & House.

I like forcing the light on the democrats play… attaching the defunding to disparate bills guaranteeing nothing will happen. I am not holding out HOPE but maybe, just maybe the GOP leadership can put some pressure on to get a stand-alone bill formed and then see how many dems vote for that.
If it passes… then watch and see what machinations the white house will go through to keep from vetoing it. Like I said though… I have no real HOPE or FAITH that this will come to pass. Too many in the DNC nationwide have they're entire money machine and votes directly tied to Acorn and the Acorn derivatives..

Tragically, only the majority (the Dems) can convene hearings. Why do you think there has been NO investigation into Charlie Rangel, or Chris Dodd, or John Murtha, or any of the rest of the whores?
In fact, John Conyers wanted to hold hearings into ACORN, but backed off: says he was told to by "the powwers that be." Now considering Conyers' rank, chairman of the Judiciary Committee, the only "powers" who could boss him around are Pelosi, Hoyer…or the White House.
(BTW, Conyers' wife Monica, race-baiting former chair of the Detroit City Council, recently pled guilty to multiple counts of corruption).

I know one who did – Castor from FLA. Even though I do not live in her district, it is my mission in life to make sure she is not re-elected in 2010. She has voted for everything that I am against. Her vote for the federal children's health insurance program – the one that put a $1.00 plus tax on cigars put Hav-A-Tampa out of business. Again, I do not live in her district, nor did I work at Hav-A-Tampa, but her total disregard for her consituents is enough for me. I read a comment from someone who said that he worked on the Kerry campaign in 2004. Acorn was in the same building, and the Kerry campaign told the workers to stay away from Acorn, to not even talk to them.
I heard Bill Morris say that he wouldn't have used an org like Acorn for campaigning because he would have been afraid of catching something.

Ok so Congress acts to strip this organization of any and all taxpayer money, after it's proven the organization was obviously and clearly doing everything it could to assist what they believed were criminals to not only purchase a home, something which if I may digress for a moment. I would point out that many many law abiding, upstanding, disabled American Veterans cannot afford to do.
Congress acts to strip an organization which is obviously attempting to help what Acorn believed to be criminals to set up a criminal enterprise, and engage in some of the worst criminal activity one can engage in, that being crimes which involve and harm children. From any federal funding.
And thats all as it should be. The Congress should act.
However the question now is, will this President, who owes his very election to presidency in the first place to this criminal organization. Sign the bill to strip federal funding from Acorn into law, or will he veto these bills, or will he simply let them sit unsigned on his desk forever?
My bet is that this President will either veto any legislation containing language which strips federal funding from Acorn, or he will simply not act at all.

I have to agree. If they are in agreement about de-funding then why must it be an amendment rather than a bill unto itself? This is what has led our government to where it is. The constant tug of war has led them to using important legislation as a means to get their own agenda driven items passed. Rather than pas what they can agree on the are constantly injecting meaningful legislation into various bills/or versions of as a means to push their pet projects through. It's not that they can't agree on anything it's that they value their own agenda's more than the will of the people and at the cost of bipartisanship.
