Can someone please explain to me why the GOP has such a hard on for ACORN? Even the man leading the charge, John Boehner, has on his website that ACORN has received $3M in funding a year since 1994…With 1200 "offices" in over 75 cities, that equates to less than $3K a year per office? We spend $3M literally every hour that we are in Iraq!

The difference, sir, is that Sears Automotive did not receive federal funds to assist people in replacing their tires; even if they were, overcharging customers is NOT a crime. Likewise, while spending $600 on toilet seats on the surface appears to be suspicious, it's not a crime! ACORN employees in multiple offices have shown that they are willing to assist people in breaking the law and use tax payer money to do that. And of course ACORN was in the lead of lobbying, and suing, to force lenders to make subprime, no-papers mortgages to their 'clients.' One such suit was brought by erstwhile ACORN trainer B. H. Obama.

ACORN may not be getting a tremendous amount in direct funding from the Government to run their offices, but their employees assist citizens in scamming the Government for individual applications for money and fraudulent tax return preparation. It is those applications for money and tax returns that I am worried about. How much money has been doled out illegally to ACORN members? That is where the paper trail needs to be inspected. How much do they charge members for their service? Do the membership dues come out of the money they successfully acquire for those members?

This, I didn't know. Schools are supposed to run at the state/local levels. This is why I have a problem with No Child Left Behind Act – as a teacher, I know it was originally just the IDEA act (just about equal ed for those with handicaps) that Bush decided to cave in to the left – rather than just signing it to extend the date, he changed the IDEA bill into NCLB & it stinks. There is no way to make their standards, because when you hit one one year, it changes and you need to increase your results for the next year – with a different class of children. It makes no sense and all it does is push down curriculum so that 1st graders are doing algebra – really – i.e.

fill in the blank: _____ + 4 = 11

They are supposed to know this is 7 by studying fact families. It is an abstract concept that all experts have agreed they don't have the skills for until they are at least 8-9 years old, but are required to do it at 6 yrs. old.

The bill contains a nice little provision that creates a GREEN SCHOOLS CZAR position that will administer all online school content. THIS HAS NEVER BEEN DONE IN THE HISTORY OF THE COUNTRY. School content is under state and local control. So either the Republicans were getting what they could, or your position is not accurate. I actually think they had no choice myself.

Wrong, wrong, wrong….that's would be the V.P of the USA. The Speaker of the House if a member of the House(which is not a requirement by the way) still maintains his/her vote as a representative of his/her district and can vote on any law/issue. However, often times the Speaker doesn't vote or just votes present to appear bi-partisan on issues but still he/she can vote.

My guess is that they have something to lose big time by refusing to vote for defunding ACORN! Also, what about the ones that didn't vote? Two from my state, Maryland, aren't even listed here. where is their stand on this?

Publicity is so bad for ACORN right now, it's good for Dems to distance themselves. They are kinda getting what they want both ways. – takeover of the college lending, and looking good voting against funding to ACORN. It's a publicist's dream. (for the Dems)

i emailed charlie gibson two days ago and told him he was an idiot and was helping ruin this country by only reporting the liberal left side of the media.

If low income people would have sought help through traditional means, like places of faith, I doubt this would now be happening. Why? Because there would have been in place a moral framework that would have discovered and cut the legs out from under this dark tendency of fallen man many years ago. I saw on FOX news that the defunding may take several months to get passed. Both parties need to expedite the Bill and get it on the Presidents desk Monday morning for his signature and immediate implementation. Furthermore all funds given to them should be refunded to the taxpayers of the United States.

Considering we have a reward policy for turning in terrorists (min $5million) I think the next thing is to give the dynamic trio a $15 Million dollar "Thank You!" That comes out to about a dime per tax payer. Hell–that would be one of the best "banks for the gubbamint buck" we EVER got!!!
