House Amends Bill with ‘Defund ACORN Act’ – Full Text
by PubliusBig Government has obtained the full text of the amendment–technically a “motion to recommit” to defund ACORN. The “Defund ACORN Act” passed the House this afternoon by an overwhelming margin of 345-75. The House vote comes just days after the Senate voted 83-7 to block ACORN from receiving federal housing grants. With these votes, 80% of the members of Congress have weighed in to block ACORN from receiving any more taxpayer dollars.

Ah, a truly beautiful document!
And it all started here!
It's enough to make Al Gore regret inventing the Internet, I'll bet!

Here's the website of the USDOJ. I recommend that we call and demand an investigation. http://www.usdoj.gov/contact-us.html The phone number is 202-353-1555. I called & emailed already. It takes only a couple of minutes! It's at least something that we can all do.
Yes beautiful. But the Senate still needs to vote to stop all federal funding, not just the one portion that they voted on.
All funding and all future funding.

Lets start a formal FBI investigation effort now, no independent agency hired by ACORN.
Ah yes, but will His Excellency sign the bill? Obama = ACORN in many regards.
The problem is – it was attached to a bill where the gov't takes over ALL COLLEGE LOANS – THEY'VE TAKEN AWAY PRIVATE LOANS FOR COLLEGE. ALL GOV'T ALL THE TIME. REPUBLICANS HAD TO SNEAK THIS AMENDMENT ONTO THE EDUCATION BILL IN ORDER TO GET IT VOTED FOR. THOSE WHO VOTED AGAINST, WERE JUST VOTING AGAINST BIG GOVERNMENT TAKE-OVER OF LENDING PRACTICES TO COLLEGE STUDENTS!
Somebody better ring up that crack reporter Gibson and give him the news.

WATCH NANCY CRY ON CUE
We need to defund SEIU now since they are so closely involved with Acorn, here is that proof

HAHA, NOW THat is truly funny. thanx i needed that.
good question. i was asking myself the same thing.
O’Keefe + Giles (& Big Government) > NYT + WaPo + NPR + CNN + NBC + CBS + ABC + MSNBC + LA Times + Chicago Tribune + well you get the idea…
I just read this on Fox News….
"The vote was essentially symbolic because the student aid bill did not actually provide any funding to ACORN."
So this only excludes tax money from a bill that didn't include any monies for ACORN to begin with?
While Keith Ellison of Mpls. was consistent and voted against defunding, Franken in the Senate threw his friends under the bus. Franken wasn't reluctant to pal around with them during his election campaign:
SAINT PAUL [7/16/08] – Today, the Al Franken for U.S. Senate campaign is proud to announce the endorsement of Minnesota ACORN, a member-driven community organization dedicated to providing housing services to low- and middle-income Minnesotans.
“I’m thrilled and honored to receive this endorsement,” said Al Franken. “And more motivated than ever to work with ACORN and other community organizations in this campaign and in the Senate to fight for economic justice, health care reform, good-paying jobs, and a solution to the housing crisis.”
Al Franken met with ACORN Board Members Sherman Wilburn and Karen Inman in the home of Denise Callahan to discuss the state of the economy. Callahan is an ACORN member who’s losing her own home and whose neighborhood has been devastated by the foreclosure crisis.
ALINSKY RULE #8. Keep the pressure on with different tactics and actions, and utilize all events of the period for your purpose.
Get your local news to go after the Seven and the Seventy-Five: "Why do you want to keep funding that helps import child sex slaves?" , "How do you benefit from ACORN politically?"
ALINSKY RULE #13. Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it and polarize it.
ACORN: Community Organized Crime…Sunlight is the best disinfectant…RICO! RICO! RICO! RICO!
Sorry Nancy. I know a few of the congressman that voted against that bill. TRUST ME, they were not voting against a gov't takeover of student loans. It was the Acorn funding. Yes the takeover of student loans is terrible, but they voted no because they wanted a bill that did the same thing as well as fund Acorn. Maxine Waters, Corrine Brown, Sheila Jackson – Lee, voted against bigger gov't? HA!! Their careers were built on enlarging the size and scope of government.
I so wish I could see the faces of Barry and so many other dems before they TRY to sleep at night.
Man this has got to sting.Obama hasn't came out and said anything about acorn.Hmm whats up with that?I mean didn't he comment on something as meaningless as Kanye West and Gates vs Cambridge Police in no time.
Well clock is tick'n barry.
Do you suppose Charles, Brian and Katie will hear anything about THIS piece of news??
Well I stated that a little while ago but the idea I had on it was this…
If Obama needs ACORN he will veto this bill if it gets to him…
It is a risky idea but either way it shows that Obama can throw his biggest allies away without a care or still supports ACORN.
The trade-off is horrible though…This bill is a horrible disaster in the making…
HAHAHAHAHA, Victory! Take 'em down, boys and girls. ACORN will cease to exist by this time next week.
Two things. They attack "the hooker & the pimp" while the congress act out of shame, and main stream media is involved in a cover up. Congratulation to "the hooker, pimp" and biggoverment.com. Great Civil Service.
Well I stated that a little while ago but the idea I had on it was this…
Actually Nancy it does not take away private funding for college loans. What it does is take away the Government backing of the third party lender and their dictates to them and makes the Government the direct lender. You could still get a loan from the bank to pay for education privately, but it will not be backed by the government, which means you will probably have a higher rate. I am opposed to this bill because it is unconstitutional for the Federal Government to be a bank, and it also attempts to control interest rates, which means that it will require more funding over time. But, it does increase the limits on grants and loans for those that desire higher education. It is my belief that this is a battle not worth fighting, although I do empathize with your position.
Yep, and you can bet that I WILL be voting AGAINST Sheila Jackson Lee as she is from my state and I assure you she is going to be surprised at the others that will. She has become much too arrogant.
Barney is listed as not voting. He also is pushing for expansion of the CRA act, which caused the subprime mess.
The Republicans knew what the bill was – they've been debating it all week. They knew they couldn't defeat it and so they put on this amendment in order to have something positive come out of it!
Therefore the Senate R's need a few D's to vote to amend the bill leaving the Defund part for conference. Right? This sneaky maneuver forces the Senate to strip ACORN and its affiliates from receiving future government funds. The R's will rightly argue that the two issues are separate and should be taken up separately when it reaches the Senate. Your thoughts?
[...] US House of Representatives followed the US Senate and signed a bill that completely defunds ACORN, that loveable group of community organizers that try to setup brothels for underage illegal [...]
I so wish I could see the faces of Barry and so many other dems before they TRY to sleep at night.
Man this has to sting.Guess were gonna see if barry supports absolute disregard for the rule of law.
Lets see if his true gansta colors shine thru now.
This is great but now how do we ensure that ACORN doesn't pop up under a new name and pick up right where they left off? I guess I am pretty happy just to know that they have to stay on the run now and can no longer just be comfortable.
hahahaaha – that's a good one!
Dont get too worked up about the school finance yet, it has to go to the senate and there I think it will die much like cap and tax, and health care.
[...] Now the House has pulled the plug on ACORN. TIME credits Beck with much of the left’s current heartburn. More here. [...]
Agreed on the trade-off being bad. But POTUS won't go near ACORN again – he's already changing his records:
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/ne...
If you scroll down to page 3 you will read that there are some broad terms there. It appears that any association who shares members with ACORN will be subject to this bill. Hopefully that will involve many of their satellite entities including SEIU. At this time I’m sure the shredders are going 24/7 and many boards are being shuffled around.
As to the 75 (Dems all) who voted nay on this bill thanks. You’ve just given us a concise target to shoot down in the next two election cycles. Appreciate the help. Folks if you see your reps name there start working for his/her opponent. Let’s throw the bums out.
Oh and to the Republicans this amendment is a nice start but don’t rest on your laurels. We’ve got our eyes on you too. No more talk about becoming Democrat Light ok? How did that work out in 2008? It wasn’t so much that the zero won as many Republicans and Conservatives and Independants stayed home because they couldn’t stand McCain. Don’t make that mistake twice.
The 9-12ers and the Tea Parties weren’t about Republican vs Democrat they were about conservatives vs liberal/socialists and don’t think otherwise!
". . . ome of the statements that are made…" You mean like calling those that oppose government health care Nazis, Nancy?
So, I want to know who those 75 are.
I am right because they are no longer "private college rate loans" but just private loans with no special consideration – what student could ever afford a regular private loan, much less pay it back immediately, while still in school?
I understand what you are saying but it's all semantics. Private College Loan Lending will end.
Too bad that Acorn Housing is a 501c(3) organization and does not follow the same as Acorn which is a 501c(b) organization.
She must have some acting experience in her background.
I think they want to disassociate and dispose of this as an issue as quickly as possible and hope this goes away. I think Andrew has other plans. I think he wants to make sure the many headed monster and all those associated with it never resurface again.
I asked my Idaho Senators several months ago what they were doing to prevent ACORN from being involved in the 2010 census in light of the voter registration fraud. I got the typical letter, that they were concerned. They didn't do squat. So, I understand when someone says "Don't cheer for the Yeas.
STILL SOME HURDLES…. DEFUND ACORN will grow in popularity me thinks, -that being said, Obama is Acorn… a vote to defund is essentially a no confidence vote for Obama…gonna get uglier——like defrocking–the race card issue will grow from this but I don't think most people are buying it–just makes them look like sore losers that they got caught.
They must have passed this while Botox Peeloser was crying for the cameras.
[...] Big Government has the full text. [...]
The text states that it applies to indicted organizations. Once the indictments are resolved, the funding could certainly begin anew
I just found out that my governor, Sonny Perdue, of the Great State of Georgia, issued and Executive Order today banning all state agencies from doing any business with ACORN and an immediate review of all current contracts with them. Whoo Hoo!!! I love Sonny. (most of the time)

The bill was going to pass anyway. Future administration (2012) can get out of it and open up lending back to the private sector.
This is one battle where there was some casualties but we need to stay focused and win the war. Defunding ACORN, thanks to these guys, is a win. Heck, we all may want to get a medical degree to perform our own medical treatments if we don't keep up the heat against Obamacare and win that one.
"Any ACORN affiliate" That means SEIU!

OK Publius now that the Republican’s actually have a chance to pick up some serious seats in the 2010 election do you have or will Big Government have a list of the up and coming true conservative Republicans that we can get jazzed over? This is shaping up to be a repeat of the Carter ousting and the ushering in of the Reagan era with only one problem…no Reagan.
Who do you know of that we can get behind and support for the house/senate/POTUS that will actually represent us for a change? Bush was a disappointment and Obama is a disaster. Give us some names so we can start our part of this and take over where Hannah and James have started.
I know – but I wanted people to be aware, because they are mad at those who voted against and cheering those who voted for it. They were voting on the original bill, not the amendment re: ACORN.
Yes, but for a Democrat voting against that is a bad thing…
In terms of publicity, it matters not,the wanted to keep giving money to sex slave trafficers
You misspelled bomb.
I expect the Dems will strip this provision from the bill.
Cannot believe the GOP voted for another government take over … this time the student loan industry.
Unfortunately her entire career has been nothing but a scripted act. I don't beleive anyone could be so completely disconnected without being paid to be.

lol, yes mam that one Nancy.
I love it..
I think there will be heartburn for the radicals tonight. Haha haha
This will exclude many many orgs from receiving federal money. I love it.
Just a BIG THANK YOU to everyone involved.
From another Georgian…that is great news. From what I read most of the funding is at the State and local levels so I hope more states follow suit.
Yes, but isn't this is part of a bill that NATIONALIZES student loans beginning 2010?
Why is it a bad thing? Publicity is so bad for ACORN right now, it's good for Dems to distance themselves. They are kinda getting what they want both ways. – takeover of the college lending, and looking good voting against funding to ACORN. It's a publicist's dream.
What does this mean for SEIU , who is, ahem, affiliated?
Ask the president of the USA if he "was just overwhelmed with joy and enthusiasm that their situation had dramatically changed for the better because of ACORN"
Yippee ki-oh, ki-yay!!!! Happy day, biggovernment.com is the best site on the web. Thank you so much for holding the pols, the msm and especially ACORN's feet to the fire. It's a pleasure to know there is this source of news that I can rely on. I was even more pleased to learn that my rep apparently heard from lots more constituents than just me, and voted to de-fund ACORN. I wouldn't have guessed that he got the message, as his staffers have been pretty snippy when I'd call to complain about it.
Good point, I guess I stand corrected.
Wonder why she is loign her house? Bought to much? Track that loan application down !!!!
let's see the loan application paperwork… man that could bring in fannie mae, maybe a slither of Dodd and a sprinkle of Franks !!!!
it sounds pretty good, but i wish it just said "acorn is hereby out of here." instead its anyone under indictment. you know, like as if indictment equals guilt. you can bet there will be abuse of indictment powers to hobble opposing organizations.
try this: http://www.goooh.com
So true … such easy questions if you have b@lls like hannah …..I'm letting charlie gibson know – I hope Palin is laughing at this clown…
Wow, she should try out for High School Musical 4.
I bet a pack of cigarettes ws smoked this week for sure
bad for ya Barry ….
Indeed, the tapes reflect the failure of the "war on poverty" model. It's time for the rest of us to stop ceding any moral high ground to the race-baiting, grievance-mongering, poverty industry.
yeah, if we could get the other 56 states to do this, maybe we could get rid of them all together.
What you found her uninspiring? You must just be cold hearted, lol. I confused I thought it was Nancy that started the hard cold threatening demeaning rhetoric.
Wade and Dale Rathke Embezzle money. I am starting a blog on Wade and Dale Rathke. Here is what I have so far, if you know anything else please post a comment so I can add it to the Blog.

Does anyone know who the 75 are that voted against the ammendment?
explain what a 501cb is?
If I read the document correctly, it appears that any organization with directors in common or a financial interest in ACORN is also subject to defunding. Does this means the end of the SEIU gravy train as well?
I guess Zero could still veto the thing when it gets to his desk, but I doubt he has the guts.
James and Hannah deserve our undying respect and gratitude!

read the comments people left back in 2008… wow – so erie now…..
RCP has shut down their comment section on the Nancy Weeper video from this afternoon.
Funny thing, she talks about the 70's violence in San Fran, but wasn't that the Weather Undergrounds doing? You know Bill Ayers, Wade Rathke and company? I'm confused. I thought the WU was out of business. Apparently not.
There are 56 states now, I thought we were still at 53? When did they add Obama-stan, Pelosi-stan and Reid-aphoria?
FIRE. THEM. ALL.
2/3 congress vote overrides the veto. Just remember that
I remember hearing about this, let me see if I can find it.
And my Congresswoman was one of the 75. Yup, Betty McCollum voted to fund importing illegal alien prostitute CHILDREN. WTG Betty. What the hell are you thinking St Paul????
How about this one?
http://www.moonbattery.com/archives/2009/04/detro...
Pelosi would not let the matter of de-funding ACORN onto the agenda – she has done this for months! She controls what's on the schedule, so Repubs that wanted to look into ACORN for months have been denied by her schedule. It never could have been a stand-alone bill.
So we have Detroit (no surprise there) AND Inadianapolis. What's the common factor from both stories?
ACORN.
Ok so I found some party pictures of Dale Rathke at a party on 10/26/07.
I don't know any of the people in the pictures but you might. Go to my blog and near the bottom is the instructions on how to view the various pictures from this party
