House GOP to Call for Total Cutoff of Federal Funds to ACORN

Today House Republicans will introduce a bill that would end all federal funding to ACORN and its affiliates. Republicans are also sending a letter to President Obama on the same subject.
The action comes after the release, on the website BigGovernment, of three undercover videos showing ACORN employees in Baltimore, Washington DC, and New York City offering advice on how to evade taxes, cover up prostitution activity, and abet the use of minors in prostitution. In the wake of those disclosures, the U.S. Census cut its ties with ACORN, and yesterday the Senate voted 83-7 to cut off housing funds for the organization.

Until Obama signs the bill I'll 'curb my enthusiasm.'
Good to hear … hope there are more videos and condemning information forthcoming. I want their funds frozen, a DOJ investigation, and any and all connections our Dear Leader and his wife to ACORN probed. I would love to see him (or them) impeached, indicted, publicly humiliated.

Rather than whine about MSM bias, local business owners should simply withdraw their advertising from local affiliates/outlets. Cut off their arms, kill the beast. Or pool our money and start our own papers. Reporters work for nothing, which is why they're inclined to be more liberal. They're definitely not in it for the money. But as long as you stroke their ego, they'll go along with whatever you like. They just want to feel important.
Keep fighting for this, I doubt Nancy lets it through, but it is long past time to defund this group. If they want to do their rotten work, let them do it without my tax dollars and then we'll see how long they last.

As a parent I am outraged by this continuing degradation of our school system! I think we also have to start asking serious questions about NEA's funding!
A step in the right direction. But we have to keep at it. A search of the Louisiana state corporations database shows several pages of listings under acorn. Not all listings belong to the infamous acorn we are discussing, but more than several are. You can tell that by the business office address of the listed corporation. And…..a lot of the listings for "our" acorn are corporations "not in good standing" for failing to filing annual reports. I'm going to go start searching other state's databases to see what comes up, just because I'm bored and all my housework is done.

My concern is that ACORN has so many “umbrella” companies…they funnel money from there to here, here to there. With the corruption SO widespread in our government, I don’t believe for a second they won’t allow funds to continue to flow through ACORN using a back door. I really can't buy the claim that he is doing this for rating. He has been reporting on stuff for a long time now. This corrupt organization is linked to so many other organizations to hide their illegal activities, it would takes years of find out all their connections and interconnection. ACORN receives money from other organizations which are prohibited from engaging in or supporting political activity. This money is channeled to ACORN which is a "social welfare organization" and as such are allowed to perform campaign-related work.
What should be investigated by Congress is WHO called off the investigation against ACORN last June when John Conyers (House Judiciary Committee Chairman) backed away from investigating wrongdoing by ACORN crimes ranging from voter fraud to mob-style "protection" racket. "The powers that be decided against it," Mr. Conyers told The Washington Times on June 26, 2009.
I guess I'm crazy then. Do let me know when Glenn Beck can take some time to relax on a yacht somewhere and stop fearing for his life.

Actually, from what i recall reading, the ACORN investigation from back then was rumoured to be "Squashed" (reportedly by Clinton aides and certain high-ranking Congressmen *cough*Rangle*cough*), but nobody could prove that, so it was kind of dropped as being a prime issue.

I think we agree. The reason Beck went after Van Jones was because Van Jones came after him. It's nice that his self-serving behavior exposed another issue – but anyway… on the ACORN story, he's simply providing a mouthpiece for O'Keefe and Giles.
I'd like to know if anyone else had been approached – because Beck has no more respect among independents than Olbermann. You just have to imagine what you'd think of a story if Olbermann were running with it.
I never even heard of this Beck character until the Obama is Racist/Van Jones story. Like I said, he struck me as just another blowhard pundit. I don't care for the whole drama queen approach, yelling at the camera and whatnot. Too Howard Stern for me.

How many people did ACORN get to register in several different regions so they could vote very many times. I believe that number could be at least 1,000,000 people each voting as many as an average of 20 times in all of the large cities of each state. That could have amounted to 20,000,000 extra votes for O'Bama because the voters do not have to show an ID. I think that the american people may have been ripped off bigtime by this corrupt organization. I hope that by the next election in 2010 that we have a way of checking to see if the same people are voting more than once. If not the Democrats or going to sweep the elections. I don't know whats worse Acorn or the corruption in congress. Thank you for this site and the exposing of Acorn again. A thug organization that the dems know has been corrupt from the beginning but lean on them for votes. The 7 that voted to keep funding them should be investigated.

It's great that some evidence of Senatorial spines is beginning to show up in D.C., but this needs to go further. There needs to be a FULL BLOWN INVESTIGATION of ACORN, its leadership, and ALL TIES TO ANYONE IN GOVERNMENT – at the LOCAL, STATE and FEDERAL LEVELS.
And more importantly, while stopping their funding is great, as a taxpayer, I want ALL 4%# MILLION THEY RECEIVED THUS FAR RETURNED.
