Filmmaker Demands Apology From ACORN for Claiming Undercover Video ‘Doctored’
The independent filmmaker whose hidden-camera videos prompted the firing of four ACORN workers is demanding an apology from ACORN for calling his work a fabricated “scam” and daring the activist group to take legal action against him.
“Bring it on,” filmmaker James O’Keefe said Sunday on FOX News.
That was after ACORN lashed out at O’Keefe, who with his friend Hannah Giles posed as a pimp and prostitute looking to evade the IRS and apply for an illegal housing loan for a brothel. The sting operation caught four ACORN workers in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., offices appearing to offer their help.
Those workers were subsequently fired, and the U.S. Census Bureau severed ties with ACORN in the wake of the controversy. But ACORN chief organizer Bertha Lewis issued a written statement Saturday saying that while she cannot defend the actions of the workers who were terminated, O’Keefe may have committed a “felony” with his operation. She also threatened legal action against FOX News, which aired the videos but did not produce them.
“It is clear that the videos are doctored, edited, and in no way the result of the fabricated story being portrayed by conservative activist ‘filmmaker’ O’Keefe and his partner in crime. And, in fact, a crime it was — our lawyers believe a felony — and we will be taking legal action against Fox and their co-conspirators,” she said.
Speaking on FOX News, O’Keefe said he wants an apology from those media outlets “covering for ACORN” as well as from ACORN itself. He said he doubts ACORN will file suit.

Hadn't you heard that Bertha Lewis confessed that Acorn is the 2009 Willie Horton? That means that they have killed and raped people. Mr. O'Keefe must get back behind that camera and find out who those victims are… Also how many other office helped with the tax returns… If he has one or 2 per week for the next 3 weeks maybe even NBC will cover this story, but I doubt it. Well they were obviously doctored, I was in one of the offices the undercover journalist visited… they simply edit the tapes to make the employees look horrendous. And not the greatest editing at that. Nowadays anyone with a video-camera can make a statement on YouTube. They release the videos as if he is the "PIMP" … when subsequently as he came into the offices he was a friend trying to 'Help' her. But all is well that ends well. We'll see what happens. I doubt he'll get an apology though.

Funny how you can always let criminals out when thier attorney has done something wrong.. why can't we ask that all reacords from both offices (tax returns) be gone over with a fine tooth comb.

I watched this this morning too and was proud of the way O'Keefe and Giles, young as they are, handled themselves and the demeanor with which they are responding to the socialists, criminal thugs and deviants at ACORN. ACORN clearly no longer have a leg to stand on; they have continually back-pedalled throughout the entirety of this issue so far, now finally being left to cry "racism." Patricia Jessamy, the State Attorney for Baltimore County, who is considering prosecuting O'Keefe and Giles, is, no surprise, a Democrat with fawning adoration of Obama and, no doubt, her ACORN brethren. Any light that is shown on ACORN will show only more corruption, graft and lies. If our representatives take their oaths of office seriously, they'll shut this abomination down nationwide, effective immediately, appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate their operations and suspend all federal funding.
This is hilarious. ACORN breaks the law, and they are threatening to sue? Meanwhile, our tax dollars continue to go to this organization to carry out more illegal activities. I watched the O'Keefe and Giles interview this morning as well and was impressed with the way in which they handled themselves and the way in which they are dealing with the patently obvious political goals of ACORN and the State Attorney, Patricia Jessamy, for Baltimore City in trying to silence, vilify and persecute O'Keefe and Giles (and, for that matter, Fox News). ACORN have continually back-pedalled throughout the entirety of this event, with their remaining method of dealing with being to cry "racism." Typical statist play when anyone dare criticize, oppose or shed light upon the activities of Obama and his socialist brethren (like ACORN).
In the on-going Patricia Jessamy story which is unfolding, there has been a great deal of commentary from conservative forums and blogs, most of which I am discussing as well. No big surprise, the Baltimore City SA is a Democrat and huge Obama "fan."

Having worked in the government and in organizations paid via government (taxpayer) money, I have seen fraud to be alive and well in all of them and never have a met a single person, no matter how intellectually limited or Polly Anna visioned, who was not aware of the fraud, waste, abuses and other shenanigans taking place. ACORN's mission has been clearly partisan and is clear to use any means it can to do as it pleases. The denials and claims of ignorance by their leaders is as much BS as it was with the denials being mouthed by the Brown Shirts during their rise to power, who for those unfamiliar, was the thug organization for Hitler and the Nazis. Speaking of Adolph, he was also a man of clear social values and conscious in his early speeches and years. Monsters don't appear as monsters to the general public when they get started. They even have lots of help along the way, such as thugs who lie and do their dirty work for them. If Bush had had ACORN the screams from the general media and masses would have been deafening. I don't think the video *could* have been doctored in any way that would deter from the obvious: ACORN workers ignoring and informally facilitating child prostitution. It's a pretty done deal.
But sure, the scope could certainly be mis-characterized – or even a setup (a private company could easily have infiltrated the organization and planted the workers for incorporation near the eve of ACORN funding – if you're willing to go to this hypothetical extreme. I'm not sure that I am, I think some bad workers just got popped is all). And all of this could have happened in the spirit of setting back the organization which was not (likely) organized to aid and abed child prostitution, but, rather helping people who cannot afford housing to obtain it.
The release of the video is its own evidence. Why didn't James and Hannah just take the video to ACORN so that the employees could be investigated and fired? That way, they would have exacted just change, and the organization which, by its published information at least, exists to help others, could go on doing so? I'd even sympathize with James and Hannah if ACORN brushed them off or did nothing – the next stop for me would sure be a blog post, that's for damned sure.
The fact is, there are grounds for suspicion because these people hated ACORN's liberal commitment. They seem to have employed a strategy of shopping around for weak characters, banking on the possibility that, as with any large organization, sooner or later they'd find one within, which lo and behold they did. That James has not yet answered whether the allegations he was turned away by four or five other ACORN offices first, leads to even more suspicion. I mean, what's the alternative belief? That they approached four or five other offices and were embraced? C'mon. I suppose it's possible they never approached any other office at all – but why haven't they said so yet?
Controversy aside, what I can't figure out is how these outlandishly dressed people could wind up in an office and be taken seriously in any event. Not Hannah, she looked like an actual prostitute (though perhaps too pretty and healthy for the street variety she was attempting to emulate). I mean James who was hysterically exaggerated in the role of a pimp. If they walked into my office I'd have been like "Okay, whatever your game is: Out, now." before they even said one word.
The ACORN workers in the video were stupid, evil, and, just plain gullible. I hope ACORN itself can survive it because we need more people in the world with a mission to help and support others. James and Hannah did good for their cause, but not much for spirit. I'm sorry, but there's enough evidence to question their motive.

From an organizational perspective, ACORN seems incredibly incompetent. Their response to this fiasco has been to blame the whistle blower instead of focusing on their organization. Given their obvious imcompetence, I don't see how the U.S. Government can continue to do business with ACORN.

Oh come on, ACORN has a history of breaking laws. Breaking into foreclosed homes to let the previous owner back in? When that property had already been sold. The voter fraud. It's really fascinating how this story is playing out. Ms Jessamy (pro-ACORN) is trying to run defense for an illegal alien underage child prostitution ring when, in fact, she was on the Gov. Council for Child Abuse AND "President, Board of Directors” of the “Baltimore Child Abuse Center, Inc.
The tonnage of hypocrisy these two intrepid reporters have drudged up on ACORN and its allies is astounding.
Actually Dave, James and Hannah have responded. They've said that ACORN's statement that they've approached other offices and were rebuked was a lie. At the moment, it's a bit of a he said she said situation.
Bigger question, ACORN is at the heart of a lot of scandals and other misbehavior, why do you jump so quickly to assuming Hanna and James are suspect?
Why would we want to blame acorn? They seem to be a very useful organization. The next time I need a couple thousand cartoon mice registered to vote, I know where to go. The next time I need housing and tax advice for my brothel, I know where to go.

And yes, when I observed the organizations and councils upon which Ms. Jessamy sat and/or sits, I was astounded; particularly given that they all claim to support and prevent child (sexual) abuse. Yet, as a product of her clear political motivations and alliances, Ms. Jessamy willfully turns a blind towards those who clearly and irrefutably believe they are facilitating and enabling the child-sex trade, child prostitution and the illegal immigation of children. Utterly unreal. She should she be disbarred.

Anyone who defends this kind of action does not deserve to call him or herself an American. Have I earned the right to make this statement? Your damn right I have!!!!!!!!! I served in 125 degree heat to protect this country (with lbs of gear on). And my countries tax dollars are paying for this hell NO!!!!!! They, allowed the Community R and R Act to continue unsupervised, providing houses to those imbeciles who colud ill aford it. Barney Frank is at the heart of this Financial Meltdown, by sitting idly by and allowing business as usual to continue………
Moreover (speaking from my experience as a Va criminal lawyer)- I've read the Maryland statute and it expressly refers to "intercepting electronic communications"- which would mean I think by any rational reading, a ban on recording phone calls (e.g. Linda Tripp) or hacking e-mail accounts, but *not* on recording live in-person conversations.
It's worth observing that law enforcement needs a court order to tap a phone, but the Fourth Amendment requires no court permission at all to wire up an informant or undercover officer.
That is my fear. As everyone is discussing ACORN's threat of sueing O'Keefe, there is a bigger demon lurking in the closet. We need more true journalist exposing light to these parisitical nightmares. I do take comfort in the fact that James and Hannah opened the door to the true journalist to return to the forefront. We just maybe able to expose them for what they are as more people step to the plate to shed light on thier deeds.
