The relentless attacks on ACORN’s members, its staff and the policies and positions we promote are unprecedented. An international entertainment conglomerate, disguising itself as a “news” agency (Fox), has expended millions, if not tens of millions of dollars, in their attempt to destroy the largest community organization of Black, Latino, poor and working class people in the country. It is not coincidence that the most recent attacks have been launched just when health care reform is gaining traction. It is clear they’ve had these tapes for months.
We are their Willy Horton for 2009. We are the boogeyman for the right-wing and its echo chambers. If ACORN did not exist, the right-wing would have needed to create us in order to achieve their agenda, their missions, their ideal, retrograde America. This recent scam, which was attempted in San Diego, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia to name a few places, had failed for months before the results we’ve all recently seen. I am appalled and angry; I cannot and I will not defend the actions of the workers depicted in the video, who have since been terminated. But it is clear that the videos are doctored, edited, and in no way the result of the fabricated story being portrayed by conservative activist “filmmaker” O’Keefe and his partner in crime. And, in fact, a crime it was – our lawyers believe a felony – and we will be taking legal action against Fox and their co-conspirators.
We will not be intimidated by this international conglomerate, which has made as its mission the destruction of our organization. ACORN members are committed to the empowerment of their communities – Black, Latino, poor, and working class – at the deepest level. We are an organization committed to halting the foreclosure crisis and keeping people in their homes. We are an organization committed to ensuring quality, affordable health care for every American. We are an organization that will not be stopped in our commitment to our members and our communities which has included:

About 10 minutes ago, I noticed, on CNN that they were talking about the DC Acorn videotape…. So… I turned up the volume. I was surprised to see that CNN was starting to cover the story. (kinda forced to… ya think? )…. At the end, the “commentator” came on, as said… something like… “in an UNRELATED story, the census bureau will sever ties w/ Acorn”… Unrelated ???? I think not. The quote he read from the Census folks, to Acorn, said, in so many words…. That this action was taken because of recent activities. …. And, they (CNN) said… that the DC Acorn employees were fired. (also good news)…. (when are Rangel and Pelosi going to get fired??)
…. This is good, the truth is coming out…. The next month will be interesting to watch how it plays out. Even more interesting… will be the next congressional election.

If I understand this correctly, a supposedly non-partisan and non-political, non-profit organization is planning to use my tax dollars to bring legal action against an American company and, likely, two American citizens. Non-profit organizations must be non-political in order to maintain their non-profit status. Many of the comments from ACORN supporters have been claiming this to be an attack on President Obama. If they are non-political, how can this undercover sting be an attack on a politician? I do not want my tax dollars to go toward legal action against American citizens who have simply brought corruption to light.

Does anyone else see a trend here? If you don't like what the opposition is doing, paint them as mobsters or Nazis. If there appears to be a legitimate grassroots uprising, assign the blame for that uprising asmanufactured and paid for by "wealthy special interests". Certainly is not possible to have an honest disagreement. Any disagreement must be racially motivated. And of course, any legitimate journalism (much of Fox News *is* legitimate journalism, though there is a fair amount of opinion/analysis in their programming also) must be a consipiracy to defame if there is anything turned up that is unflattering.
I believe this happens because this is how the Left does business and they dont know any other way for activism to take place. Its not just this lady from ACORN, Speaker Pelosi does the same thing. Analysts on Fox News from the Democrat Party have done the same thing. But the Left is accustomed to news organizations that are partial to their agenda, so they assume that any news agency that is not on their side is against them (rather than being fair and balanced).
I seem to recall Glenn Beck saying to Hannah something about how he hoped that FoxNews would hire her. That indicates to me that she is not an employee of Fox currently, and so they should not be liable for this investigative reporting. The ACORN employees knew they were doing something wrong, and they had apparently no compunction about moving forward. This organization is either totally corrupt, or they are so large that their "few" bad apples are so numerous that they are really easy to find.
I hate to tell you this Ms. Lewis, but the Right doesnt need another Willie Horton. All that is needed is to expose those that are corrupt is their own words. As an American citizen I am appalled that you would concede that these(2) videos would be doctored and that you defend the actions of acorn and it's representatives. Please let their be full disclosure and prove that these allegations are false. Truth is truth ma'am, and if your claiming innocence for you and your organization, let's have a congressional investigation into acorn and these allegations. I am writing to my elected officials in your behalf and asking that they investigate these videos. I suggest you contact the ACLU and have them investigate as well.

If the four dismissed Acorn Employees weren't doing anything wrong, perhaps an enterprising attorney will, after looking at the video evidence, contact them with the intent to file a "wrongful dismissal" suit against Acorn on their behalf? Why do I bet that won't happen?
Bertha Lewis is (insert Mike Myers' voice) cuckoo. The tape showed ACORN employees breaking half a dozen federal laws. ACORN needs to be shut down, and the whole organization should be investigated by the justice department.

Great job to all who exposed ACORN for what they really are. I find Bertha's claim that ACORN strives to empower Latinos more comical than her claim the tapes were edited. Mexican Americans do not want anything to do with ACORN and in fact are harassed and threatened by ACORN when they refuse to join.

Y'know, it makes sense NOT to divide people into libs and non-libs when discussing this. I'm pretty liberal and this whole thing sickens me. Wondering why anybody would go to an ACORN office for tax advice, as Jamie O'Keefe and Hannah Giles did for their child prostitution sting operation? There is actually a very good reason to think of ACORN and tax advice in the same sentence and it was exposed by The Washington Examiner's Kevin Mooney several months ago in a Special Report:
"The program’s biggest score came against H&R Block, MonCrief said. The company was targeted beginning in January 2004 when ACORN promised demonstrations by its members in front of H&R Block offices protesting 'overpriced tax refund loans' in at least 30 cities.
