U.S. Census Bureau Director Robert Groves’ Letter Announcing Decision to Sever ACORN Ties
by PubliusSeptember 11, 2009
Ms. Maude Hurd
President
ACORN
739 8th St SE
Washington, DC 20003
Dear Ms. Hurd:
The goal of the U.S. Census Bureau’s partnership program is to combine the strengths of state, local, and tribal governments, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, schools, media, businesses and others to ensure an accurate 2010 Census. While not (sic) Census bureau employees, partners are advocates for census cooperation and participation. They serve a trusted voices within their communities and are critical to our strategy to count everyone once, only once, and in the right place.
The Census Bureau has established criteria for partnerships, which are listed on our Web site at www.census.gov and reserves the right to decline partnership or to terminate an existing partnership agreement with any group that 1) may create a negative connotation for the Census Bureau; 2) could distract from the Census Bureau’s mission; or, 3) may make people fearful of participating in the census.
To that end, and in keeping with the standards we shared with your organization and others who volunteered to partner with the Census Bureau to help promote the 2010 Census, we are today terminating our Partnership Agreement with ACORN.
Over the last several months, through ongoing communication with our regional offices, it is clear that ACORN’s affiliation with the 2010 Census promotion has caused sufficient concern in the general public, has indeed become a distraction from our mission, and may even become a discouragement to public cooperation, negatively impacting 2010 Census efforts.
While not decisive factors in this decision, recent events concerning several local offices of ACORN have added to the worsening negative perceptions of ACORN and its affiliation with our partnership efforts.
We do not come to this decision lightly. It was our original assessment that your organization could be helpful in encouraging cooperation with the 2010 Census among individuals who are historically hard to count, including renters, low-income residents, the linguistically isolated, and others. As of today, we have close to 80,000 partnership agreements with national and local groups – many of whom are trusted voices and serve these same populations – and we will be relying upon those groups to continue our outreach in the communities you serve. The full participation of those populations remains of utmost importance to us.

Dear Mr. Grover : Thank you for taking this action. We are proud to know that there are people like yourself who will stand up for is right. Way too many people are folding under the pressure of Obama's administration's heavy hand. We applaud you.
Sweet jeebus on a pogo stick, could we be….winning?
I would ask the Census Director to post a complete list of the "80,000 partnership agreements with national and local groups" on the official website. I pretty sure some familar, dare I say infamous, names will pop up.
Dear Mr. Grover: In my delight to compliment you I omitted a few words. Sentence two should read: We are proud to know that there are people like yourself who will stand up for WHAT is right!
Hooray!
"While not decisive factors in this decision, recent events concerning several local offices of ACORN have added to the worsening negative perceptions of ACORN and its affiliation with our partnership efforts."
So, in other words, the videos of the Baltimore and D.C. offices was the "straw that broke the camel's back".
I second.
Thank you, Mr. Groves.
It would make me very happy to know that the Census Bureau had severed ties with any ACORN subsidiaries and "alter-egos" as well. I understand there are quite a few.
Until then, it's a start.
While we're at severing ties with ACORN, could we also sever our ties with the politician that was an ACORN lawyer in Chicago as well, that apparently holds a very very high office in the US?
I applaude the Census Bureau for making the right choice. Now let's hope Congress decides to keep the 8.5 billion dollars of stimulus money earmarked for ACORN. I don't want my hard earned tax money anywhere near ACORN. The next step needed in for Congress to do a THOROUGH investigation on ACORN from top to bottom.
ACORN's management now says it is "appalled and dismayed" at the behavior of the DC office caught in the sting. They said something similar about the Baltimore office yesterday. I hope there are several more videos of yet more of these clandestine ops to be released. If so, ACORN will have to create a form apology letter for circulation, using taxpayer funds, no doubt.
ACORN says it is appalled. What's appalling is what looks to be one of the worst examples of poor management oversight and control imaginable. So, this is the outfit where BHO made his "CEO" and "Leadership" bones, eh, and learned how to manage? God help us.
Like cockroaches they’ll turn up somewhere else.
BIG round of applause for James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles.

…………Upon review by this office, the video appears to be incomplete. In addition, the audio portion could possibly have been obtained in violation of Maryland Law, Annotated Code of Maryland Courts and Judicial Proceedings Article §10-402, which requires two party consent…………
They are going after James O'Keefe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/09/11/unbelievabl...
This is awesome news…let's just keep our eyes and ears open for ACORN to show up under a new name with their hand out "to help" the unfortunate….I am positive someone somewhere is working a deal.
Swell…they want, (political), war…we'll show them war.
The giant has awoken and it's p!ssed off.
Every time they try something like this, 100,000 giants are awoken.
Bring it, you Marxist usurpers!
By Oct. that will be 40 million of us ready to rock.
Not Over.
Oh yeah, they were so appalled and dismayed …when it first broke they were defensive and litigious. Amazing how public outrage can make you change your mind!
Are they still going to ask the question "How many flushable toilets do you have in your home?" and "How many lightbulbs?"
Now that the Census has cut the ties with ACORN, we need to make sure they stick to their Constitutional questions and data collection. "How many people live here?" That's it!
Now your talking!!!

9-11: The Desecration
By Pamela Geller
Add another Obama insult to injury on 9-11. First, he desecrated the memory of 9-11 with his planned proclamation of his mandatory civilian service on 9-11, which he has designated a "National Day of Service." And now 9-11 has yet another title: State Department personnel are supposed to pray with Muslims on the newly declared "Interfaith Day of Service," whatever that means on 9-11.
Were they actually watching the SAME video that WE'VE been watching? I think it's pretty darn complete, thank you very much, and if THEY broke the law, well, didn't ACORN break a few themselves???
BRAVO! for excellent investigative reporting
Saw this somewhere else, but I think the law is only about "audio" recording without permission from BOTH parties. It does not apply to video-taping… As I read earlier. Anyone with more info would be appreciated.
And I'm sure James will have some pro-bono lawyers on his side. Even if they are from Fox.
Good things happen when good journalism is practiced. Congrats and thanks to BigGov.com!
In just two days' time, a difference has been made. I've seen it up close with the "Advance the Cause of Child Prostitution? YES! WE! CAN!" post at http://firebreathingchristian.wordpress.com/2009/... and I'm lookin' forward to much, much more as BigGovernment.com informs, unifies and motivates each and every one of us to take an active role in the culture war.
Thanks again and keep up the exceptional work!
Dear Mr. Groves, please watch out for the buses headed your way. Thank you.
Finally, someone is doing something about this organization. Let's hope they open a full investigation. However, I'm amazed that ther are only a handful of comments. I hope it's because everyone is watching 9/11 coverage and this has been minor news, in comparison.
There is a complete media blackout on this story. That concerns me a bit. No doubt, they are following orders from the White House on this as this has the potential to destroy the pro-abortion health care bill and Obama's presidency. Doesn't that scare anyone here? We've all been aware that the MSM is totally in bed with the Marxists that now run our government, but this is extreme. This is a very big deal! I'm afraid that those who produced this video could possibly find themselves in alot of trouble (unjustly). If the media continues the black out on this story and the blackout is successful in that most Americans remain completely ignorant of it, then they know that they will never need to report serious crimes like this (if it may prove harmful to the State) in the future. Then, I would suggest that those who made this film and propogated it find a place to live outside of the country before something really bad happens to them.
Surprise, surprise, the Baltimore City State’s Attorneys Office refuses to do anything about ACORN:
:

Surprise, surprise, Patricia Coates Jessamy heads the office:

So there you have it, folks. Skin color protects criminality and immorality.
I love public letters from the Government. I think we have someone else we can thank on how she runs ACORN by sending her a letter!

Do not stop to think we are winning. To badly paraphrase Churchill, this is not the end. This is not the beginning of the end. But it may be the end of the beginning.
Act II appears to be to destroy O'Keefe and Giles (for wiretapping violations) in such a way as to stop anyone else from coming forward, anyone else from monitoring these cretins. Don't get cocky!
great news… but who is overseeing that these same people do not end up running the census and getting billions of our tax dollars by simply 're-organizing' under another name ??
ACORN also goes by COI , is that group still on the list?
That's good. The more the mainstream media overtly circles the wagons and hides these stories from the public, the harder it becomes for them claim that they aren't biased.
Thank the Goddess!
Now if we can get Trail Lawyer Sibulis from over-seeing torte rfeform
that's a step too!
I sincerely thank all of you for your efforts in exposing ACORN. Having this kind of impact; having this announcement going into the weekend … thank you …. thank you …. thank you.
Isn't it part of the this administration's "change" to move the census to the white house to start with? Acorn's fraudulent voting practices were known before this time and That was OK? Just where is the compiled list of participating (80,000) 1st- responders in this mission? Didn't part of the stimulus money go to hire people for this project? Aren't these the new green jobs spoken of? Your going to pay people to go into low-income areas to grab a count where police won't go? You may need Acorn for this mission.
You have done your country a great service. Keep up the great work, I and my family and friends will be checking your blog daily.
How ACORN survives:
http://crosssection.wordpress.com/2009/09/11/i-ca...
I agree.
They already have one called "COI".
Thank you Lord! To all of those that made this possible my hat is off to you. Acorn is once again caught with its pants down, but this time a government entity, the Census Bureau, had the integrity and cahones to act on it, despite risking political retaliation. Let us hope they are not like cockroaches and that an investigation will reveal a fraudulent and illegal enterprise. Perhaps we can look forward to some interesting revelations, incarcerations, and resignations.
You have a real good point. Maybe those Ivy league Progressives can walk the walk and get those names and addresses for the government. Good national day of service if you ask me.
Sorry this is in a different thread
State's Attorney Considers Prosecuting ACORN Video Posters
The Baltimore city state's attorney is considering prosecuting those responsible for taping the ACORN employees on charges that they violated Maryland's wiretap laws.
STATEMENT OF STATE’S ATTORNEYS OFFICE FOR BALTIMORE CITY RELATIVE TO THE ALLEGED BALTIMORE ACORN INCIDENT
Baltimore, MD – September 11, 2009 – We have received inquiries from citizens and the media asking whether the Baltimore City State’s Attorneys Office would initiate a criminal investigation for acts allegedly committed at ACORN offices located in Baltimore. The only information received in reference to this alleged criminal behavior was a YouTube video. Upon review by this office, the video appears to be incomplete. In addition, the audio portion could possibly have been obtained in violation of Maryland Law, Annotated Code of Maryland Courts and Judicial Proceedings Article §10-402, which requires two party consent.

/Spit !
/I will snap if that happens
I am ready, I will walk into any Acorn office with a camera to protest this if it happens, they can not arrest us all…..
I forth.
If that happens I hope there will be an outrage, especially if no charges are brought against the REAL criminals that they filmed.
A broad smile is on my face. Thank you
I concur!
Voter fraud and thug mentality wasn't enough!!
Megan Kelly for one I am sure.
I am telling everyone I see. We must spread the news the old fashioned way….screw the media.
Fantastic Work to all involved!!!! Any chance we can get you guys to do some work up here? NDP, LIBERALS, BLOC PQ, are ACORN look allikes, and wannabe's…please help….soon…
The IRS should immediately cease ALL Acorn client records in every state and investigate every loan and tax return submitted for fraud.
[...] And then this: Census severing ties with ACORN! [...]
good move, nice to see a few positive bits of news lately
With people like Margaret Williams on the ACORN Board it is no wonder they are such a slime organization! That is one of the most stupid letters I have ever read. What does child sex slavery have to do with racism? The sooner this whole ACORN organization is destroyed the sooner our country can begin to heal.
It could be they just saw the FOX excerpts and never looked for the full video online. Typical retaliation, strike first, force legal bills, smear, then at some point "on review of the full footage…" with dropping the charges before a judge can decide they are full of it and the case was politically motivated.
Cowards.
The end is in sight. Our way of life is threatened, and on the way to Socialism. Don't listen to what O.B. says, instead, watch what he does. Just make sure your affairs are in order, since there isn't much time left. Sad to say, but it all goes back to the saying, " be careful of what you wish for, as you may not like the result".
Don't be a fool. This is window dressing only. The census is still being run by Rahm Emmanuel. This is only to create the appearance of fairness, and all they have to do is count everyone once and only once…and then "estimate" how many low-income people they missed in liberal districts and add them in…and then multiply by 1.1, or whatever they calculate it will take to keep the White House when Barack's approval rating is 31%.
Thank you so much James for your bravery. It is wonderful to see that two can upset the A.C.O.R.N. cart. There is no telling how much you saved America from.
Thank You!!! This is just the beginning. There is a lot of work still to be done.
We ALL unfortunately know that when the time comes for ACORN to close shop, they will already have there "NEW" tax information prepared. Hey, maybe the ladies they fired can contribute in some hush hush way? Maybe they can "re-organize" under a tax code for "ENTERTAINMENT", mostly because there a bunch of clowns! Far and wide our Government has spun out of control, and I hope that this will enlighten some to rethink life at the voting block. As for James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles I am sure they have thought of the possibility of jail time. Yet, they have joined in a new movement/ cause to hold officials accountable. It's disheartening that these TWO GREAT AMERICANS may have to stand trial for speaking the truth!
Comment of the day!
Thank God!
ACORN had received 8.1 billion in federal government grants from 1971 through 2009. Imagine what they can do by getting 40 years worth of dollars all in 2010-2011 alone – just in time for the 2012 re-election.
I wish, but, how many Dems in Congress owe their political lives to the election fraud that ACORN can provide for them?
Removing everyone of these critter is the goal.
Videotape exceptions would be like for news crews, can't hunt down and get waivers from everyone in the shot. Audio would be as for phone conversations, anti-wiretapping, and anti-eavesdropping. To declare the audio portion of the videotape as something separate is so far beyond asinine, it is obvious either the politicians spoke before the lawyers set them straight, or this is part of "setting an example."
True, but the 20% undecided middle isn't among those political junkies like us who actually pay attention to these things. Most won't realize that the media is biased, and some won't care. Obama even does a good job of portraying those who say "unfair media" as sore losers, and even has some people believing that the only biased news source is Fox – to the right. So the less these stories get out through CBS, ABS, and NBS, the more likely they are to keep their boy in power.
ACORN is a NASTY EVIL seed that has been planted in our midst and fertilized with the cries of RACISM at every convenient opportunity. It is growing into a horrible and ugly tree that needs to be cut down and burned as firewood….NOW!
I’ll bring the marsh mellows.
Right. Wiretap a conservative group and you're a protected whistleblower. Wiretap ACORN and they become victims and you are demonized. The left gets it both ways. Why is this? It is because the left controls (1) the media; (2) education; and (3) well, all you need is the media and education, and you've got it wrapped up.
As an amateur genealogist, I am always grateful for more information than simply "how many people live there". I agree that knowing how many toilets are in your house may be a bit absurd, but knowing birth dates and names are any genealogist's dream.
If I am not mistaken, census records are not available until 70 years after the fact, so you can relax.
This is a tiny bit of good news, likley to be a political sop to avoid further bloodletting. Still, not a bad thing.
P.S. Why the “(sic)” in the second sentence? There is nothing grammatically wrong with that sentence.
I hope we can get a Congressional investigation into this now. More to the point, do you think ACORNS roast over an open fire as nicely as Chestnuts? Lets get these people convicted!!
Does Obama LIE to Americans? You Decide.
Obama: “I HAVE NOT SAID THAT I WAS A SINGLE PAYER SUPPORTER.”
Obama: “I HAPPEN TO BE A PROPONENT OF A SINGLE PAYER UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE PLAN.”
http://thedailychange.com/is-obama-lying-to-ameri...
NAH! Just burn'em. No poison left to get into the ground water!
I tried going to the "Judicialwatch" link to view the documents…guess what??? "Page not found"…Go figure! It seems like they learned from their Van Jones fiasco and are deleting any evidence.I found the same thing at the ACORN-8 site regarding their documents.I guess the Internet Police have been very busy today…
I concur.
Pimps and prostitutes are par for the sick course for the dems, if isn't Spitzer roughing up some young gal, it's Frank brutalizing some young prostitute boy.
Acorn should set up shop in the democratic headquarters….Oh wait, they already did….
There is hope. It takes private citizens to throw these hideous organizations into the blaring light. Government will not initiate investigations……it's up to us to lead them by the nose to take the correct action.
Pimps and prostitutes are par for the sick course for the dems, if isn't Spitzer roughing up some young gal, it's Frank brutalizing some young prostitute boy.
Greg I re-read this myself, and I have the same question?
I see you condone ACORNS actions. I would guess you are an attorney. Go ahead why dont you push
prosecution and make a FOOL of yourself.
This is just the begining of American Patriots (true) standing up for what is good.
Interesting note about ACORN: Here is their lobbyist info,
http://www.nyc.gov/lobbyistsearch/search?lobbyist...
It appears they have paid Mr. Levenson $30,000.00 (so far this year) as listed under the NY ACORN division. It list the Corp HQ in New Orleans and the phone number listed for the New Orleans office is 504-943-5954. Just in case anyone was wondering.
There must be a ton of exemptions to this law or if not, a ton of violators they should prosecute, for example, convience stores, gas stations, city councils, possibly even cops if they are on private property, not investigating a crime or anything but leaving their video recordings going. What about tourists in the state making video recordings. Seems if the MD AG wants to go after them, someone should check into a civil rights violation or something.
But why does the 'government" need to know? These stats are not for "genealogy." These are numbers mostly used for money allocations from Federal funds.
If you want to know my age and name, check the marketing companies that work for the grocery stores… they know more about us and our habits than anyone. Gotta love the "Preferred Customer key ring."
Not avail for 70 yrs after? I don't agree… will have to look that one up.
I'm taking all the toilets out when they come around to ask. hahaha j/k Oh, and ALL candescent light bulbs throughout the house! And all of them will be ON.
This just goes to show that one or two people can make a difference. This should inspire everyone that is sick of the corrupt establishment (REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRAT) to step out of your comfort zone and think of creative ways to expose this corruption. Bravo James and Hannah!!! You are true American heros and what every journalist should aspire to be.
I myself have been inspired to step up my continuing efforts to fight against the seemingly limitless power of trial lawyers. They are the mortar that holds the wall of corruption together in this country. The bricks are ACORN, SEIU, AFL-CIO, Greenpeace, PETA, lobbyists, and of course our beloved politicians, just to name a few.
This is from the States response to inquires of prosecution…
"If it is determined that the audio portion now being heard on YouTube was illegally obtained, it is also illegal under Maryland Law to willfully use or willfully disclose the content of said audio. The penalty for the unlawful interception, disclosure or use of it is a felony punishable up to 5 years."
So they DO want to go after the undercover Pimp and Ho.
Oh great. Who is going to count the underage illegal immigrant hookers now?
WARNING to all Americans, think about how hard it is to kill a 6ft rattle snake with your bare hands, these snakes didn’t get where they are bieng completely stupid. we must rally together behind fox news and james o’keefe and hammah giles and be prepared to give them our support and MONEY IF NECessary
[...] And ACORN was supposed to be a big part of the CENSUS. They have now lost that [...]
This is true and you pronounce it koi like the fish—to bad they took down the fishy web site, or I would report them.
I just have one question. What took so long?
Mr. O'Keefe thank you ,thank you, thank you, the truth will indeed set AMERIA FREE.
I think we're missing one unseen benefit of the expose. Notice the ease in which both offices were able to concoct schemes to help a hooker game the system. The best explanation is that they had done the same numerous times for REAL hookers, drug dealers, welfare cheats, and illegals. From now on though anyone walking through an Acorn door with a fishy or illicit lifestyle choice will be immediately suspected as a plant. The office worker will go into goody-two-shoe mode and confine their activities to legal services. If Acorn can't hand out free money anymore a lot of their clientele who want to scam guv dollars will be sorely disappointed and no longer give a fig about what happens to Acorn.
I can finally say:
I LOVE BIG GOVERNMENT! (.com)
I think it's t-shirt time!
so say we all!!!
This is clearly the beginning of something. The failure of the traditional media (excluding Fox news, talk radio, and few others) to do their job has left a gaping hole for the enterprising broadband muckrakers to do serious undercover work. The age of the independent internet reporter has arrived. Hannah Giles and James O’Keefe may not be the first Wi-Fi correspondents but they’ve become one of the most effective. Maybe someday Giles/O’Keefe award will be handed out to electronic journalist instead of the tainted medias Pulitzer Prize.
Wait, now I read Maryland is considering prosecuting the video producers?
HUH? Is this upside-freakin'-down land or what??!
Stop the world – I want to get off!
"[W]illfully use or willfully disclose" would also include Big Government and Fox, even Rush if he played the audio. However with the "audio portion" coming from the videotape I don't see where they could have any case.
I must say that I am thankful and relieved ACORN will not be participating in the 2010 census. The statements made today by Maryland's Margaret Wilson are a clear indicator of the lack of professionalism that plagues this organization. In addition I believe it is safe to say that the data released by ACORN to the Census bureau would likely also have be tainted with the same racial bias she accused FOX news of.
This is NOT over.
It's about time someone pulled the plug on this criminal gang of THUGS and Con Artists. This is YOUR TAXPAYER DOLLARS AT WORK, PEOPLE!! Let's melt the phone lines at the White House every day next week, and demand an audit be taken of the Stimulus Fund and that NO MORE MONEY BE AWARDED TO THIS GANG OF CORRUPT THIEVES, LIARS AND SCOUNDRELS! We have had enough!!!!!!!!!!
WHITE HOUSE SWITCHBOARD – 202 -456 -1111, AND 202 -456 -1414
I won't worry about the new organization's name. I'd keep eyes on the people who run it.
The thought of this makes me ill….. What about the immoral and illegal things these women were discussing? These women, as well as acorn had better be getting looked into as well. I worry about the safety of these two journalists.
I'm very grateful to the two reporters who were brave enough to expose ACORN. I did not want that agency handling the census.
Good for you Robert Groves!
This is fantastic! Finally…someone in government not afraid to take a stance!
This is all credit to Mr. Breitbart, Ms. Giles, Mr. O'Keefe, and Fox! Bravo!
Now all we need is the congressional hearings – press your representatives! I've emailed Conyers, King and Arcuri.
Good point! Never thought about it – I was too excited!
Whether or not prosecutors charge any ACORN officials in Baltimore, the filmmaker himself could be in hot water.
A Maryland state statute requires consent from all parties whenever a conversation is taped, according to the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. Violations of the law are punishable by a maximum of five years in jail and a fine up to $10,000.
But that statute does not apply to videotape recordings — only to phone calls or other electronic “communications,” Napolitano argued — meaning the filmmaker is likely in the clear. The Napolitano quoted in the piece is Fox News legal expert Andrew Napolitano. I’m not sure that the law isn’t vague enough that some Democrat in the Maryland legal system might try to bring charges against O’Keefe.
http://insidecharmcity.com/2009/09/10/md-could-ch...
Hopefully we can get rid of ACORN's big boss next. Check this link and see if we can help prove BO is not a legal president. http://jbjd.wordpress.com/
[...] his Big Government website and busting ACORN in the child prostitution scandal.–The US Census severed ties with ACORN [...]
People already have mentioned the "Linda Tripp" prosecution strategy the Baltimore County state's attorney's office is trying to use here. The difference being, while you had to take one-step from the Clinton perjury to understand the Tripp-Lewinsky tapes were about more than just sex between a 50-year-old and a 21-year-old intern, which got the left into their "it's only sex" indigence, in this case the "sex" involved is ACORN workers openly helping offer guidelines for an underage teen prostitution ring.
I'd think even the State of Maryland isn't stupid enough to get on that side of this argument and want to take the case all the way through court, where any politician involved would come off looking like she/he were pro-teen hookers, but if the higher-ups in Annapolis aren't smart enough to backtrack on Baltimore County's stupidity, more power to them.
I love it! I just got done watching Hannity interview O'Keefe and Giles on Fox. When asked whether there were any more investigative videos coming out, they both answered "maybe, maybe not, but maybe". As has already been said, "journalism lives". Great job guys! Great job!
"Over the last several months, through ongoing communication with our regional offices, it is clear that ACORN’s affiliation with the 2010 Census promotion has caused sufficient concern in the general public, has indeed become a distraction from our mission, and may even become a discouragement to public cooperation, negatively impacting 2010 Census efforts."
That is LAUGHABLE! They've emailed back & forth about talking points & how to comfort & smooth over the public's fears & FOX's news casts since FEBRUARY OR MARCH! They are LIARS! What are they going to do with ALL the ACORN people they've hired & trained?
126 documents from Judicial Watch on ACORN/US Census partnership:
<a href="http://www.judicialwatch.org/files/documents/2009…” target=”_blank”>http://www.judicialwatch.org/files/documents/2009…
Enjoy! And, THUMBS UP TO ALL!
James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles are probably bigger heroes then they’ll ever know. What they did and the reaction from it is going to be huge. Not just in the media, but this can hurt liberal politicians if the Right uses it correctly. We have to also consider how many people who have seen this will go do their own stings around the US on other leftwing organizations. Also consider the fallout with ACORN itself. The Census Bureau cutting ties is just the start. If republican leaders grow spines they can start pushing to cut off Acorn funding and strike a major blow to Obama’s fundraising and voter “registration” efforts
Great job Hanna and James, Thank you!
Watching this unfold yesterday gave me hope that there is a light ahead for all of us. Please, keep up the investigations into all the corruption that exists in Washington and around this great country before its too late…..

i really don;t know how the Census work but i am 45 years old and i and 4 of my family members passed a test last year to be Census workers but not only were non of us called back for the job, but no one of us has known or had any one come to their door questioning us about our household. I thought the whole purpose of the Census was to provide the government with a head cost for money to be disbursed to the states?????????????? Where is the money going????
Wouldn't the 'wistleblower' protection clause apply here???Just saying, those who attempt to prosecute are liberals to begin with, which I consider to be nothing but revenge. Wistleblower, surely should be applied.
AWSOME JOB GUYS! Keep up the pressure on these scumbags. I hope you've got a couple more video bombs up your sleeve. My family loves what you're doing and we're praying for you all.
we need to pursuade our state and local representatives (both parties) to be sure not another dime goes to ACORN or their subsidiaries, during the slow implementation of this crackdown. states can do quick searches for all their organizations and STOP THEM NOW…. and citizens should volunteer to help them research each and every "community organizing"… because I believe the number of "offices" are going to be startling.
Wow. The two young investigative journalists should be offered jobs at the Washington Times right away. They have single handedly taken steps to stop a very well-funded, corrupt , community organization from running the U.S. Census. Now our republican lawmakers should step up their game. They should stop letting us down with inaction.

Do you think they left out Chicago in mix? My guess is there is at least one more film too see.
Yeah, I have a feeling there is at least 1 more to go. It won't be released this weekend (if they're smart – which they are — slow news cycle). It should be released on Monday.
We all know ACORN goes by different names. Now, how many of the other 80,000 names on his list are under the ACORN unbrella? I say, have the whole list out there for all Americans to see who really is helping with the Census 2010!
Okay, only 79,999 "Non-Profit" (Rackateering, left-wing godless "churches") to go.

Wow…
This is a serious blow to ACORN on several fronts including:
1. Exposure of what ACORN really is-a seemingly criminal conspiracy to steal money from U.S. taxpayers in the name of 'social justice.'
2. Cutting ties with a government office that lent ACORN credibility.
3. No money flowing in for helping (being hired) with census for 2010-potentially millions of dollars for ACORN and ACORN employees/associates.
Where's Elliot Ness when you need him???

Thank you Mr Groves for having the common sense, and integrity, to pull ties with an obviously corrupt organization! I support your decision completely, and have a new respect for the Census Bureau.
“we have close to 80,000 partnership agreements with national and local groups ”
Lets keep in mind that ACORN is just one of several of the company names in the one GIANT organization! Could it be that this is just to throw us off track? We need a federal investigation into these people before the 2010 census comes into play!

amen! 1 small step for honesty in govt! It may not seem like much but you have to take those first steps and this is the first of those steps.
Great reporting thank you
This is misdirection. They will be involved in the census, just not under the banner of ACORN. ACORN, as Glenn Beck has shown, consists of over 300 separate "not for profits". They will dissolve and reinvent themselves in another guise. The Postal Service should take the census, as has been suggested. (Apparently, they need the work.) Why should ANY non-governmental organizations take the census? This will be like with Van Jones. Yes, he resigned; but he's still working with Podesta on Obama's goals. Just not within the administration. Now, as with Ayers, Obama can claim that Jones is not someone who works for or advises him on a regular basis. But do you really believe that Ayers has no input or that Jones will have none in the future?
The point is that these overt examples of bias are so obvious that one could quickly present them to the undecided middle with a minimum of background and context and the bias would be obvious. I once convinced a friend of media bias simply by asking him to watch the Republican National Convention and then the mainstream media coverage of the convention. The more obvious it is, the easier it is to do things like that.
Dear Mr. Groves: I am so proud of you and your Bureau! You had the good sense to disengage the Census Bureau from people who were going to use the Bureau for their own purposes.

I will say I appreciate Director Groves decision to seperate from ACORN. That had to be a difficult decision to make considering almost no one in Washington, DC appears willing to do anything about ACORN after all this time.
Too bad it couldn't have been sooner, too bad their hasn't been a greater uproar over ACORN's tactics and results.
I would love to believe that ACORN will not be a part of the census, as mentioned above, I fear it is a misdirection. I have no intention of answering any questions other than how many people live in my house. Any other questions will be met with a closed door, and a call to my local police dept. and have them forcibly removed if necessary. Wonder if you could file any kind of complaint as to them wanting to much info, basically as a scouting group for planned theft (referring to the allegations of the sort of questions wanting/needing to be asked)
Did I just miss it, or has the White House commented on the fact that one of it's departments cut ties with ACORN? I would think they should say SOMETHING.
Tough luck sister , you are stuck with that one for four years ,(aside from a well placed bullet ) !
Exactly how Madam Pelosi is DEMANDING Congressman Wilson apologize to the House for calling out Obama being a liar but allows Congressman Rangel to hold his job as Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee writing tax laws when he, if fact, after more than a year of investigationing was found guilty of falsifing his own income and gave donations to 3 of his investigators! How could a Congress possibly support a President who regularly twists, deceives and outright lies despite being proven wrong. Maybe his lone community activist experience with ACORN has him a bit touchy on the subject.
Okay Monday everyone needs to load the website at http://www.whitehouse.gov or call them at (202)456-1111 (comments) or (202) 456-1414 (swithboard) and let them know we demand an investigation into ACORN before another dollar of taxpayers money goes out to them. Call or email your Representatives and do the same. We can't let them get away with this. Glenn can't do it alone.

It now appears to me that the IRS department may/should audit ACORN. It would be so refreshing to see them get the same IRS audit treatment that I was given, or that Timothy Geitner was given, etc. Make the group of them each personally and collectively squirm their way through it all. Maybe check into the tax returns they filed for persons from their offices to make sure that the forms are correct and reflective of those who relied on them for this service — and hold them all responsible for their actions accordingly and collectively.
Thank God there are people standing up to all of this corruption. We are thankful today that there are people who are willing to do what is right.
"A rose by any other name smells just as sweet." If you are going to use ANYONE to help gather census material, remember that ACORN has hundreds of names!
I totally credit this win to Big Government and Hannah and James with a nod to Glenn Beck and the talk show universe. Well done ladies and gentlemen. One crack in the dike. Now lets bring down the whole damn thing!
I dont understand how a president can "request" someone to take part in somthing religious. Besides why the hell would we want to "pray" on september 11, with muslims? I know not all muslims are bad, i have a few friends that are, but the extreeme Islam followers are what caused all of this. Why would obama suggest that we should pray with them. Like that is going to help us forget…or forgive…yea right.
Did the Census Director's original letter contain that typo or did Breitbart's staff just insert one of their usual typos when transferring it to this site?
Re: "Maryland Law, Annotated Code of Maryland Courts and Judicial Proceedings Article §10-402, which requires two party consent…………" Well folks, it was a 3 party conversation. O'Keefe and Giles were there, constituting two party's consent!

I rc'd a postcard from Robert Groves (Dir. of the US Census), stating that. by law, I must repond to the request for information concerning the 2010 census. However, our BIG Government does not provide me with a mail pick-up. I live in a town of 22,000, in an apartment complex within the town, where the postmaster took out the centralized mail box for out-going mail. This is a no-brainer: the postmen dilever 6 days a week and it would be possible to pick-up out-going mail at the same time! If the US Census prefers to mail requests; then, by law the BIG Government should require mail pick-up; otherwise, they can wait till I am ready to do my monthly shopping to search out a drop box! I am retired and not in the best of health (yes, I am, too, uninsured … not by choice) and I am getting sick and tired of our BIG Government!
I have e-mailed Sen Coburn, the Attorney General of the US, the Census Bureau, CNN and the White House without any response!
Can you know of any related blogs like yours that we can locate out far more information?…
