Bachmann Demands Investigation and Suspension of Taxpayer Funding to ACORN

U.S. Representative Michele Bachmann (MN-06) today requested the U.S. Census Bureau to refrain from partnering with ACORN in light of the numerous additional criminal activities uncovered this week:
“The past three days have brought to light further evidence that ACORN is untrustworthy and not worthy of being a partner for the 2010 census,” said Bachmann. “These additional findings are disturbing and merely solidify my original and long-standing position that an organization with a continuous cloud of suspicion should be banned from receiving taxpayer dollars. So long as this cloud of suspicion hangs over ACORN, I am afraid that its partnership with the Bureau could jeopardize the integrity of the census process and diminish the public’s trust in the Census.”
Bachmann has also requested Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Chairman Barney Frank conduct a congressional investigation into ACORN, its use of tax dollars, and whether it should repay tax dollars already received.
In order to immediately stop taxpayer dollars from funding ACORN, Bachmann is requesting the IRS revoke ACORN’s tax exempt status; the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) halt any current funding; and the HUD Suspension and Debarment Committee suspend any future access to funding until ACORN cleans up its operation.

This week the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), a current participant in the Census Bureau’s Planning Partnership Program for the 2010 Census, once again made unsavory headlines.
On Wednesday, FBI and state authorities charged 11 ACORN employees with voter registration fraud in Miami, Florida. In this case, of 1,400 registration cards collected by these employees, 888 were found to be falsified. A day later, two Baltimore-based ACORN workers were caught on camera giving advice to a couple, whom they believed were opening a brothel, on avoiding taxes, seeking HUD grants, and setting up a prostitution ring as a legitimate business. Today, yet another video surfaced showing two more ACORN employees assisting this couple under the same premise in Washington, D.C.
Unfortunately, the past three days have brought to light further evidence of that ACORN either cannot or will not enforce even the most basic standards of ethical behavior amongst its employees. This is not something that should be new and surprising to anyone who has seen the plethora of headlines about criminal investigations, indictments, and consent decrees in more than a dozen states. And, despite ACORN’s pleas that this is just a few bad apples, it’s clear that the problems exist on a systemic level. In fact, Nevada’s Democrat attorney general, Catherine Cortez Masto, said earlier this year that ACORN’s own training manuals “clearly detail, condone and require illegal acts.” These new videos provide a clear glimpse into the behind-the-scenes activities occurring in ACORN offices across our nation.
It is my understanding that the Census Bureau remains intent on allowing ACORN’s participation in the Census Partnership Program, particularly in light of the fact that the program is meant to develop trust with the census amongst the American people. Given ACORN’s past, I have asked before how ACORN could be considered worthy of the Census Bureau’s imprimatur. However, in light of this week’s even more disturbing reports, I am requesting that you reconsider the Bureau’s position and refrain from partnering with ACORN during the course of the 2010 Census. So long as this cloud of suspicion hangs over ACORN, I am afraid that its partnership with the Bureau could jeopardize the integrity of the census process and diminish the public’s trust in the Census.

A few questions for Obama concerning the Census decision:
I pretty sure the Director of the Census did not make this decision on his own or without consulting the WH. Who spoke to him and/or gave the go-ahead?
A while back there was a minor stink about transferring control of the Census from the cabinet level to direct supervision of the WH. Would it be wrong to assume that one intent of this act was to allow unfetttered ACORN involvement in the census? And would it be also incorrect to assume that this indicates prior WH awareness of the "creative" legal and ethical techniques practiced by ACORN?
Thank her for speaking up. she said a while back that she was leaning to not cooperating with the census. Now we have many more reasons to avoid the census since they are in bed with ACORN. I am sure the termination is not effective until obama says it is. he is the Dear leader. There will be attacks by the left and the Media is perplexed on how to frame this shame. Obama was the trainor so he can't blame Bush for their Quality and performance malfunctions.

Hey everyone…We need to make sure ACORN funding gets cut off not only at the government level, but also through the private sector. My bank, Bank of America, gives money to ACORN Housing. I called to complain about this back in February. They informed me that they do not support ACORN, the one that was involved with voter registration fraud, but that they support ACORN Housing which they said is a separate legal entity from ACORN. Now we know this isn't true. I am asking everyone to call Bank of America at 704-386-5687. I found this number through google, so I hope it is current. This is the customer relations general line. They also get money from other banks, so if your bank gives money to ACORN, call them.
I appreciate Rep. Bachmann's efforts, but asking Pelosi and Frank to conduct an investigation into ACORN is a huge mistake. There isn't a chance in h*ll that the House is ever going to find any wrongdoing here, so why give it any legitimacy? What IS likely is that they'll turn this whole thing to their advantage by dragging the case out interminably, and avoid answering any questions about ACORN's conduct claiming, "we can't discuss an active investigation". They're pulling this exact stunt with Rangel right now.
Hopefully more of our Congressmen will follow her lead and STAND UP for America! Tomorrow could be a truly historic day in Washington!

Re the 11 vote frauders in Miami. First, to ACORN, you only paid them $8-10/hr. You call that a living wage? And no health benefits? I do commiserate with you on the incredible bad luck of having your canvassers do the exact same stupid things in 14 states. Imagine the odds.
As to the 888 of 1400 fradulent registrations. Wouldn't the obvious solution have been to instruct each worker that would only get paid extra for registrations that pass review and that any Mickey Mouse names on the forms would result in immediate dismissal and a visit to the pokey?

Wow wow wow! I am so proud of those 2 kids. Just saw them on Hannity. I've been wondering for about a year now why is this group funded by taxpayers! The greatest question came from the young man. If they have received billions of taxpayer dollars why are they in such rundown offices. Where's the money going? This is only the tip of the iceberg.

It's about time somebody out there was willing to investigate the shady organization! What would really be nice is if more liberals in congress called for an investigation. Until recently I haven't seen much proof that ACORN has been up to no good and yet for some time now there's just been something about them that has made me felt uneasy whenever the subject comes up on them.
For any liberals out there reading this, don't think I'm just some far right conservative hack either. Though I do tend to lean towards the right with most of my views, I felt betrayed by the Bush administration and all the things he did to increase the size of government and what not. I also realize that corruption is taking place on both sides of the isle and it's time for WE THE PEOPLE to remind the government and the special interest groups who this country belongs to!
Tenacious, determined, intelligent and a gentle lady we need to stand by her with any means possible. Very few have spoken out so boldly — those that do are the keepers of the flame. Imagine if she were Speaker of the House — the statists shutter in fear at that thought. Sadly, ACORN is but one soured nut on the large oak tree of corruption that haunts our republic. However, acorns don’t stay on mighty oak trees forever. They drop in season usually with wind and they don’t stand a chance with the electoral storm coming their way.
I would be very glad to see the federal (i.e. taxpayer funding) to ACORN dry up. This organization is under investigation for multiple counts of voter fraud and has been exposed in two instances encouraging members of the urban community to commit tax fraud. I believe it is safe to say that the character and professionalism of this organization is questionable at best and as such are not worth of any public trust until such time as it can be shown they are working in the interest of the general public.

I would llike to believe that Ms. Bachmann is a committed Constitutionalist and certainly would make an excellent choice to head the House Judiciary Committee. As someone alluded to earlier Ms. Bachmann is a most attractive and vibrant woman…as contrasted to her libral counterparts…who look like they just fled the University of Michigam campus in Ann Arbor….haggard, worn, slovenly (and thats on one of their GOOD days).

I just looked at the Official ACORN website. There are some very interesthing things on it, and there are some very interesting things not on it. I find it odd that it does NOT show Officers and/or Directors. Why, are those running the show afraid to make themselves known? It is nothing but a Shadow, pseudo-ffficial Orginization. When I heard ACORN was going to be part of the census, I thought, I'm going to pull one big "git off my property" hissyfit if one those creeps came to my door. But here's my question: If we refuse to cooperate with the census, or lie to censustakers, aren't we effectively shooting ourselves in the foot? Thanks for that website. WOW! Is all I can say. I'm not really surprised at Pat Jessamy's threat however. Given her considerable amount of effort to keep Obama clear of any interests with ACORN. Saddens me to think there are actually people out there that don't stand up for the little girls protrayed as soon to be prostitutes at a such a young age and that is looked at as alright by Jessamy herself. What else is considered to be ok to do to kids in Maryland if Jessamy herself, proclaiming to be a child advocate, is essentially stating this was alright to do. If anyone should be hung it's ACORN and anyone involved with that organization. Dismantled, taken apart, full investigation with anyone abusing power fined or imprisoned. The senate just passed a law to count ALL illegals in the census. That way places like California and Democratic cities can add more representatives in the Senate and Congress for their states. Don't sound fair does it?

I agree with Cooltom about the WH having a CZAR for census. This would have been the 1st time that ever happened and we all were outraged because this would be easy to change the numbers in favor of your own party. Obma knows all this we are not stupid.
I plan on telling the census worker that I have 23 children (all named George Foreman) and no indoor plumbing.
