John Fund: Time to Cut Off ACORN

I thought I’d heard every possible charge about corruption at ACORN, a feisty, union-backed activist group that became infamous last year when it was investigated for voter registration fraud in 15 states. Just yesterday, 11 ACORN workers were accused by Florida prosecutors of falsifying information on some 900 voter registration forms.
But this morning brings a Fox News report that ACORN officials in Baltimore offered to help get a housing loan and falsify tax documents for a proposed house of prostitution that would employ underage girls from El Salvador. The episode was captured on tape by an undercover filmmaker, James O’Keefe, who wanted to see just how far ACORN would go. Watching the tape — which can be seen at Biggovernment.com — is a creepy experience. ACORN itself has told Fox News the episode represents “gotcha journalism” but wouldn’t comment further until it sees the full tape.

According to the New York Times, Williams placed them in a safe in the White House for five days before turning them over to their personal lawyer.
The stench of this goes way above the pay scale of these 2 women. How this organization can still be getting federal money is beyond me and I hope that changes soon.

Run a search string for (acorn pimp) at any of the major media sites and you are likely to find an article, now. Most of them employ the word "allegedly" when describing the incident and dismiss the accusations as part of a smear campaign. These are the same tactics they used during the presidential campaign and the left just eats it up.

These are Obama's brown shirts. He taught them their trade in Chicago, and now they are behind him 100%. Our very own government has funded them to the tune of $53 million in the past and are awaiting billions more in current taxpayer dollars. In July a Congressional Committee provided overwhelming evidence of ACORN racketeering to the House Judicial Committee. When nothing progressed the Chairman, John Conyers D-MI was asked why the investigation had not progressed. Conyers responded that "the powers that be" (Obama) had put the Kibosh on it. Then there is the Attorney General Holder that dropped charges against 3 New Black Panthers who were under investigation for voter intimidation. He refuses to respond to letters of inquiry from Congress regarding his reasons. Then there was the Inspector General who was fired, because Obama lost confidence in him, shortly after he determined that AmeriCorps and the mayor of Sacramento has misused $875,000 in taxpayer funding.
There has never been a more corrupt government. Pelosi claimed she would run the most honest congress in history and that democrats earned the mantel of fiscal conservatism. They hire and keep people who cheat on their taxes, and have created a greater deficit than the sum total of all past administrations in American history.

Sherri – Your concern is legitimate but you apparently have not been in a federal office building inside the Beltway on a normal work day. You will find children throughout those buildings. They are usually there because for some reason, the day care arrangements fell through but for other reasons as well. I've personally been unable to get work out of an alleged "staff assistant" on numerous occasions because her 3-year old daughter kept her too busy to do her job, not that she was all that reliable under normal circumstances. It is a ridiculous situation because our alleged "support staff" never/never gets bad performance reviews. Their superiors are afraid of getting hit with an EEO lawsuit. So, this sort of thing plus a host of other egregious violations of work requirements, decorum, and plain civility continue. Your tax dollars at work. The ACORN mentality and culture of intimidation pervades the Federal Triangle.

ACORN should be used as a litmus test for politicians: anyone who supports this group should be targeted for ouster in the next election. I certainly don't want any of my taxes to go to this corrupt organization and I'd prefer to see every office in every state shuttered under RICO statutes.

The ACORN idiot in the video was giving tax and legal advice for the purpose of furthering a criminal enterprise. If a properly licensed lawyer were to do the same thing, he'd lose his license, and rightly so. This led me to the idea that one way to fix ACORN and other so-called "community organizations" like them is to require them to obtain accreditation (like universities) and their staff to obtain certifications to do certain tasks, such as giving tax advice to small business startups, if they are to qualify for receiving federal funds.

It's very much possible. Politicians always stuff extra ear marks in these bills as a way to buy off votes from other members. That's one of the things that really pi$$e$ me off about legislation. They can't just pass a bill about health care. It has to be stuffed full of other non-relative items to spend more of our money.
As a liberal who voted for Obama, my jaw is on the floor. The corruption in this video, which is clear and appalling, is magnified tenfold by the fact that the voices of children are heard in the background while advice is being given that foreign prostitutes of under 16 "don't exist". The fact that these workers, one at least who is obviously an expert in her domain, are so openly helpful in offering such twisted and corrupt advice is a nuclear indictment of ACORN. Entrapment is a defense that claims the defendant would not have broken the law if not tricked into doing it by law enforcement officials.
They were journalists not law enforcement and the Acorn employees were aware of the illegality of what was being requested. Neither tried to discourage or contact law enforcement about what was happening. That would make them guilty of conspiring to assist a criminal venture. This would be appropriate since Acorn is a criminal enterprise.
