What Was Missing from the SOTU Address
by Pam MeisterWednesday nights, I usually watch “Ghost Hunters” on the SyFy Channel. Yes, I am one of those geeks. But this week, I set the DVR so that I could watch President Obama give the annual State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress and the American people.
I might as well have watched a bunch of people using high-tech gadgetry to try to make contact with the other side, because I certainly didn’t learn anything new in this world.
Anyone who has paid even scant attention to Obama over the past year or two has heard it all before. We heard about the need to act “boldly” and “aggressively” in a crisis, the need to pass climate change legislation, the need to pass the health care boondoggle, the requisite bashing of banks and Wall Street, and, lest we forget, blaming Bush for everything except ABC’s cancellation of the show “Ugly Betty.”
In the private sector, constant passing of the buck gets you fired. In government, it earns you points with your base.
Watching Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden sitting behind Obama, I was reminded of proud parents watching their child take his first steps. I half expected Nancy to offer him an animal cracker and a sippy cup of apple juice for his efforts.
So, you may be wondering, what was missing?
Gravitas, for one thing. Sure, there was the upward tilt of the head that is part and parcel of every Obama speech. I guess he thinks we enjoy being able to count his nostril hairs. But the entire speech had the tone of a parent lecturing an errant child. All that was missing was a wagging finger and the threat of no dessert for a week if little Billy didn’t stop dragging his feet and clean his room.
What else was missing? Truthfulness. The AP points out at least 10 major fibs contained in the speech, including Obama’s position on lobbyists and how many jobs were actually saved by the stimulus package.
Then there was the real shocker: his smackdown of the Supreme Court because of their ruling last week that lifted limits on corporate campaign donations. “Last week, the Supreme Court reversed a century of law to open the floodgates for special interests — including foreign corporations – to spend without limit in our elections. Well I don’t think American elections should be bankrolled by America’s most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities. They should be decided by the American people, and that’s why I’m urging Democrats and Republicans to pass a bill that helps to right this wrong.”
Does this mean that unions will also have more campaign finance restrictions put upon them?
Even Justice Sonya Sotomayor looked peeved, as well she should.
But upon what is the mainstream media focusing its energies? Not the fact that Obama’s remarks were incorrect and in bad taste, but disparaging Justice Samuel Alito for mouthing “not true” after he and his colleagues were attacked by the President in front of the nation. Apparently it’s all well and good for the president to pile on the Supreme Court, but not fine for a member of that court to object – even silently.
And what about jihad? Excuse me, “terrorism.” Wait, make that “man-caused disasters.” Only eight paragraphs out of 110 were dedicated to national security, despite the fact that just a month ago an attempt to blow up an airliner full of passengers over Detroit was narrowly averted; a strong majority of Americans don’t want KSM and his cohorts to be tried in New York; and Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan gunned down his colleagues at Fort Hood, killing 13, while shouting “Allahu Akhbar.” Security interests don’t take a holiday. Neither should the attention of the White House.
Speaking of which, the two police officers who were responsible for stopping Hasan’s bloodbath before it could get worse were special guests at the SOTU, seated in the box next to First Lady Michelle Obama, along with several other military guests. But the traditional “shout out” to such special guests was oddly missing, although the First Lady received two mentions and Jill Biden received one. Why bother having such distinguished guests if you plan to ignore them completely?
Finally, what was missing was any sign that the President is listening to the American people. Three big elections – governors’ races in Virginia and New Jersey and a special senate election in Massachusetts – were bloodbaths for the Democrats and essentially a referendum on the President’s agenda. Nearly 70 percent of those polled say Congress should dump the current version of health care reform. Sixty-three percent don’t believe global warming is a crisis. And polls are showing that even “safe” pols like Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) are in danger of being toppled. If Frank Luntz’s focus group on Fox News was any indication, the American people were not fooled by his rhetoric. They’re not looking for “just words,” but results.
Yet Obama says he will continue to “fight.” A true ideologue, he refuses to abandon his beliefs, even if it means political suicide. He even told Diane Sawyer he’d rather be a “really good one-term president than a mediocre two-term president.”
He just hasn’t figured out that people don’t think he’s a “really good one-term president.”

Obama is of low moral character. His put down of the supreme court seated in fron of him is a new low. That is how junk on the street talks to authority.
It is even worse that he lied on the topic. The foreing corporations are dealth with by the FEC and he apparently didn't have the facts checked.

Last night's disgusting display was just another example of how the Left has all sorts of respent for the law and the judiciary until it also goes off the reservation. The Court gave back some of the freedom that never should have been taken away, and not only was the president out of line to so openly chastise the Court, but Congress was also disgusting in its standing ovation. It really was like watching a schoolyard beat down. These are the people Americans gave power to. Sad.

Let’s pretend that they didn’t adopt the insolent, arrogant, smug and pedantic attitude that allowed them to call people “terrorists”,”, “bitter clingers”, and worse….including a slur invented against homosexuals engaged in oral sex…”teabaggers”.
Let’s pretend that the strobe lights at the Bully’s Ball didn’t just suffer a Brown-out that began in a grid in Massachusetts and has lights flickering from California to Florida.
And let’s pretend therefore that this call for “unity” isn’t a crass and cynical ploy to avoid a mid-term blood bath for Democrats who gleefully participated in the taunting, oppressing, intimidating, hectoring, and freezing out of the legislative process of fellow congressmen and senators and, more especially, of average Joe the Plumbers all across this land.
Let’s pretend that the rest of the Democrats and the whole of the entrenched media did not join in, or sit on their hands in passive acquiescence as this electoral brutality was taking place.

Let’s pretend that we have suddenly found “religion” on campaign finance, because we do not want the “wrong” people “influencing” the voters.
Let’s pretend that we didn’t shut off the credit card check that allowed that very thing, or at least one “somebody” did…and thereafter nobody investigated, neither the entrenched media or the government. And they didn’t complain…not even a whimper.
Let’s pretend we are fighting two wars, instead of just one.
Let’s pretend that state sponsored terrorism is an isolated criminal act, rather than a declared war by armed combatants seeking horrific ways to harm our interests, our allies, our way of life, to mass murder us or maim us at every opportunity.
Let’s pretend this isn’t one war on multiple fronts, similar to Germany and Italy in WW II, but that there’s good place and a bad place to confront the enemy in their training lairs and mass murdering plotting grounds.
Let’s pretend that the emails from East Anglia and Penn State and the “melting glaciers” of the Himalayas are not cause for complete mistrust or worse… proof… of a massive hoax in the Global Warming scam.
Let’s pretend that the fraudulent number of “jobs saved” somehow equals “jobs created”, when the CBO itself says there is no way to remotely verify such a thing…and that the numbers are made up out of whole cloth.
Let’s pretend that the former President left behind a debt because of “not paying” for the financing of a military action after commercial airliners were hijacked and slammed into our Pentagon and our skyscrapers.
Let’s pretend that the lending institutions of Fannie and Freddie are not in the least bit responsible for the mortgage meltdown, since they are never mentioned in the same breath as “greedy bankers”.
Let’s pretend that it was NOT the Democrats that had insiders in Fannie and Freddie and let’s pretend that those books were not cooked under Frank and Dodd’s watch.
Let’s pretend that seizing the auto industry, the banking industry, the health industry and the energy industry is not a naked power grab during a One Party rule cramdown….that effects nearly half of our wealth in this nation.
Let’s pretend that turning your back on a promise for C-Span transparency, and instead…began cutting side deals, Cornhusker kickbacks, the Louisiana Purchase, and union “Cadillac limo” rides because that was just the “messy” way that business gets done under One Party Rule.
Let’s pretend you don’t need to constantly raise your chin, in order to better look down your nose at the rest of us.
Let’s pretend all of this….in the name of “unity”.
Because if we indeed pretend all of that and more…when the mid-term elections come around…that hallmark of arrogance, the hyper-narcissistic phrase “you got me”…will need another word added when uttered by one of those born every minute…

As a conservative/libertarian, I love it. This November should be a bloodbath of epic proportions, both houses are in play. What will he do for 2 years with a Republican Congress?
Hillary is going to start running against him the day after the mid-term elections this November, and two years of her calling him a failure is going to set up a nice conservative ticket (Ron Paul – Newt Gingrich) for a big win.

His speech just further reveals the president is nothing more than a socialistic ideologue. Mr. Obama believes he just hasn't done a good enough job in selling the American people on his socialistic agendas.
The problem for Mr. Obama is that he has sorely underated and insulted the American people because he thinks they "just don't get it," because he has not done a good enough job in selling his bankrupt policies to the American People. What Mr. Obama fails to understand is that the American people understand all too well what he is trying to do, that they really do get it, and they simply do not want any part of his socialstic agendas.
What Mr. Obama ignorantly fails to understand is the message of the people, and that HE just doesn't get it. But he will get it. He will really get it come November.

It never ceases to amaze me that he can stand there and feign such horror at the prospect of "foreign investors" in our electoral process when he himself benefitted from same before SCOTUS made it legal. He either suffers from severe memory loss, totally believes in two sets of rules, or thinks the entire american populace has a combined IQ comparable to that of a head of broccoli. Perhaps all of the above.
Not only do I think he thinks he looks presidential, but also somewhat godlike. If he were overweight, I'd chalk it up to him trying to hide a double chin, but as that's not the case…

Is it just me or did anyone else notice that he said exactly the opposite of what he does. He said he wants to get rid of ear-marks, but signed 8300 of them into law. Wants to include republicans, yet won't talk to them. Everything he said was exactly opposite of his actions.
I think a fully functioning brain was not present at the SOTU.

It might appear that he might be trying to intimidate them (Supreme Court Justices) into alignment with his idealogies or into retirement. Just a thought. What is wrong with this statement. A really good one term vs. mediocre two term. If the first term was so good why didn't it turn into a second term. I guess his gauge for a good term is not the voting tendancies of the constituents the president is supposed to represent. I guess in this case the measure of a good term is gauged by how much of his own agenda is forced into law and how much noticable change will be left for the future generations to deal with. Change is what he ran on. Change is what we got.

What was struck down only related to American corporations. That means if Humana for example wants to pay for ads to warn people about the proposed Abominablecare and there is going to be an election, then the FEC cannot stop them.

Under McCain-Feingold newspaper corporations were exempted from its provisions, yet a small group of people who got a very small percentage of funding for their film on Hillary were prohibited from having it screened. The hypocrisy of the employees of GE is so very obvious…. and ditto for the remainder of the LSM who have been screaming about the decision in accordance with DNC directives.

The Supreme Court slap-down was inexcusabel and the media (Except FOX) gave him it's usual pass.
