How ACORN Got Dumped by the Census
by Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC)When ACORN was announced as a national partner with the Census Bureau, I had grave concerns that the accuracy and integrity of the 2010 census would be jeopardized.
One of ACORN’s responsibilities would have been to recruit census workers. Given ACORN’s propensity for falsifying government documents, it seemed illogical that their employees would now be handling census forms. The Census Bureau was, in effect, inviting fraud in the 2010 census.
As the Ranking Republican on the Census Oversight Subcommittee, I privately encouraged the Bureau to reconsider. Subsequently, the Bureau and I engaged in a confrontational public dispute over their relationship with ACORN.
The Bureau would eventually listen to reason and agreed that ACORN could not be trusted to recruit census workers, but they continued to defend their partnership with this criminal enterprise. When the despicable conduct of ACORN was caught on tape and broadcast on BigGoverment.com, the Bureau officially got out of the business of apologizing for ACORN.
New Census Bureau Director Robert Groves deserves our respect for doing the right thing. Immediately following his confirmation, Director Groves pledged to me that he would seriously review ACORN’s partnership status. It is clear to me that Director Groves had ACORN on a short leash.
Director Groves’ decision is particularly remarkable considering that he was appointed by a Democratic President with close ties to the group. ACORN has essentially become the political field staff of the Democratic Party. Without question, there are many people in the Obama Administration who are unhappy with Groves’ decision.
Being dropped by the Census Bureau is proving to be a tipping point for ACORN, which has received at least $53 million in taxpayer funding. In March, Senator David Vitter offered an amendment that would have prevented ACORN from receiving additional federal funding. That amendment failed 53-43. On Monday, a similar amendment passed 83-7.
The floodgates have opened. Today, the Los Angeles Times offered harsh words for ACORN in a scathing editorial and Democratic Majority Leader Steny Hoyer is questioning ACORN’s federal funding.
Now, every federal agency and every elected official must seriously reconsider their relationship with ACORN.

Words cannot express my admiration for Hannah and James for coming up with the idea, putting themselves in harms way to cover this story, covering the story on a shoestring budget, and for doing such a magnificent job. Again if they aren’t nominated and win the Pulitzer Prize over this story then the Pulitzer will have been shown to be a meaningless prize awarded only to left-leaning persons.

McHenry gives Groves way too much credit. The very notion of "partnering" with ACORN — AFTER it had been revealed that its employees in FOURTEEN STATES had falsified voter registration cards, AFTER it had been revealed that in contravention of law ACORN paid based on the number of people registered, AFTER it was conclusively established that EITHER ACORN was a criminal organization OR it had such lax hiring practices that such behavior was COMMONPLACE — is despicable.
It was only after FURTHER illegal behavior was established that Groves did a dang thing.
That doesn't garner an iota of "respect" from me.
What has changed with the census, it is now under the control of the White House so who collects the data doesn't matter it is what is done with the data once collected.

What remains unexplained is the motive for ACORN employees to give such bizarre and illegal advice. Yet they did. In multiple offices. One video mentions seminars to go to and implies ACORN could help with mortgages. Did ACORN refer clients to their approved realtors, mortgage brokers, etc., then get commission, etc? Because there must be a financial motive here.
BTW, I'm a leftie. And support what you're doing and have been blogging about it. Plenty of others on the left also find corruption like this appalling. It's the liberals who are still supporting ACORN…

While I agree that ACORN getting booted from the 2010 census is a fantastic development – I'd rate that an even better outcome than defunding them – I disagree that Director Groves deserves any respect whatsoever for his decision. Pardon me, but your inner politician is showing: This was a pure survival move on Groves' part, and only the basest kind of partisan idiot wouldn't have done exactly the same thing. So I – a non-lawyer non-politician – would simply give Groves credit for not being the basest kind of partisan hack and idiot. That's the faintest praise I can damn him with, frankly.

Re: The occasional mention of Alinsky rule # 8. Most Americans do not know of Saul Alinsky. Allinsky , a Chicago native and admitterd "Communist Fellow Travler" who taught stelth, forment and revalution as the way to change the Government. David Allinsky his son says the departed Saul regarded Obama as his best student. Obama was/is a community organizer and a advocate of the Allinsky school. Obama is closely aligned with ACORN and thier criminal activities which has led to editements in 15 states. Futhermore he has represented them as a lawyer, he know exactly what the goals of Acorn are, (shared goals of course) . One of his first acts was to moved the census from the Department of Commerce to the White house. Why? To insure the falcification of the census and census directed dollars and the eventual take over of the Government . Remerber Obama's promise to redistribute wealth.
Looks like ACORN just got a little more defanged a moment ago, as the House has just voted to de-fund them.

By the way, Hillary Clinton, also a Chicago native, wrote her thesis at Wellesly College in 1969 on Alinsky and the Alinsky method. Upon election of William Clinton, the White House Lawyers blocked release to the public and it could only be viewed in the Wellesly libary on Microfish. Now the plot thickens: Hillary ran agaist Obama, woops, another Chicago native, both followers of Alinsky, —-sounds like a slam dunk and the way our country is headed.
The above must be researched and brought out into the suinlight for the American public to consider. Millions of citizens voted for Obama and or "change" with out knowing the man, his background or what "change "was his goal.

But that won't do you much good when 99% of the Elected officials in Louisiana are corrupt and are looking for the next bribe. The State Attorney General for Louisiana won't and if they file anything , it is a Farse and trust me when I state they won't do anything.
When Acorn had me arrested on phony Rape charges, I filed a complaint with the United States Attorney. I went to their office and begged for help. My life was in danger and their statement to me was we cannot help you while you are under inditement.
The rag that New Orleans calls a Newspaper, The Times Picayune, (the reporter) refused to allow me to state my case at all and I was told not to come to their office as they would have me arrested.
If the truth will ever come out, there are a lot of men and women within HUD and with in the City Government of New Orleans and the District Attorney's Office of New Orleans and the NOPD to prison for violation of Law.

What is next for the census? I believe great progress was made in taking ACORN out of the picture but who do turn to? How about the USPS? This was recommended at one point awhile back but I don't believe I have heard any talk on this lately.
When will the democrat party wake up and realize that they are serving as a faciltator for the radical thinking of Obama, Hillary, Acorn, and fellow travelers. You have to remember something. Rosemary's baby couldn't help what it was. It had no choice in the matter. ACORN on the other hand, knew exactly what it was doing and chose to do it. In my book, that makes ACORN worse.

Hold on a minute here…. Does Groves report to the White House? Rahm Emmanuel? Who are those people that were on my doorstep in May asking how many people lived in my house? He had a census badge, said he was doing preliminary work. Was he from Acorn working for the census? If so, has he been fired?
I don't trust this and I will not respond to anything from the census until it is proven to me that they no longer report to the white house but to commerce, and additionally, I have solid proof that every Acorn recruited census worker has been fired.
