The Tea Party Movement: What Is It?
by Of Thee I Sing 1776Unlike the “experts” on both sides of the political spectrum who will state with absolute certainty who the Tea Partiers are and what they stand for (invariably to support the reporter’s political persuasion), we will admit that at this point in time, we can only say for certain what the movement is not. Like the storied Boston Tea Party of 1773 where the citizens of Massachusetts protested British taxes being imposed on them without any representation and dumped three shiploads of British tea into the harbor, the current movement is not a political party, at least not yet, and it probably never will be.

Of course every commentator and pollster is ready to tell us definitively what the meaning is of this unique new political movement. Former President Clinton likened its followers to the odious Timothy McVeigh of Oklahoma City notoriety. The former President knows better but as a loyal Democrat he apparently is willing to share in the heavy lifting to demonize the Tea Party. Many Republican leaders say the movement is nothing more than an outcry against the policies of the current Administration, but in our view that would be an over simplification as well.
The common philosophical thread which does seem to run all through Tea Party adherents who speak out appears to be a sense that government has become too large, too overbearing, too much in debt and that it is muscling into our private lives as never before. True, many attendees who are interviewed are outraged about specific issues like high taxes, the recently enacted health care bill and the tactics used to force its passage. Divining coherency and consistency out of all of this is impossible even though we are treated daily to talking heads and newspaper analysts who state with absolute assurance what it all means.
Our take is that the movement can be attributed simply to frustration with the “political class” and a free-floating anxiety about whether any elected officials can provide inspiration and leadership in troubled times. But any review of the history of the shifting political tides in our nation clearly shows that this movement has numerous antecedents . . . and that it is very healthy for our democracy.
In recent years, we Americans have been increasingly worried about our relative position in the world and whether it is declining economically, commercially and militarily vis‑à‑vis other powers, and there is good reason for this worry. But one characteristic of America in which we can place enormous confidence is that, built into our democracy’s DNA, is free speech and the dynamics of an open marketplace of ideas which revivifies the political system and supplies it with the equivalent of new blood cells to keep it healthy. By way of comparison, the Chinese model, even allowing for its impressive economic growth, is ossified (as is that of every dictatorship not open to change and experiment), and in the long run that is very likely to prove costly to oppressive nations. Moreover, it will ultimately prove to be dangerous to them. As we have seen this year in Iran, people cannot forever be suppressed, whether by a dictatorship of the left or the right. If there is no safety valve for free expression, the only outlet becomes violence and revolution. What makes America different is that change springs from the ideas of ordinary people and those ideas can grow into living political organisms.
Political commentators and pundits have, of course, found in the Tea Party movement new material for their unending need to fill space in the op-ed pages of major daily newspapers and to participate on endless cable television commentary. They count the number of people at rallies who are in business suits, and they analyze in great detail the racial makeup of the on-stage participants giving speeches, and the people in the audience. The New York Times reported that 18 percent of Americans who identify themselves as Tea Party supporters tend to be “white, male, married, and more than 45 years of age.” In general “they are wealthier and more educated than the general public.”
Some pundits note that Tea Party attendees comprise a mix of libertarianism and conservatism with the political issue common denominator being lower spending and smaller government. However, media analysis varies greatly. Commentators on the left have derided the movement as if it were comprised only of angry mobs of Klansmen carrying pitchforks and armed to the teeth threatening elected political officials with bodily harm. They converge upon a rally of tens of thousands of people and then spend the next two weeks discussing, without end, a few boors whose behavior was vile and who may have shouted vulgar racial or homophobic epitaphs. We have all seen “instant replay” videotape coverage played over and over in which we are supposed to determine whether someone in the crowd used the “N” word when screaming at a political official of color or who spat in the face of an elected official. On the right numerous commentators have claimed that the allegations of bad behavior have been fabricated. But to focus on a few bad actors is to miss the meaning of what is happening all around us in this political year.
James Taranto’s recent Wall Street Journal on-line column, “Best of the Web”, on April 19th makes an extraordinarily important point. He notes that Charles Blow, of The New York Times, who attended a Tea Party rally was put off by the fact that the speakers on stage represented an abundance of ethnic diversity, but that there was a dearth of it in the crowd. Blow said what he witnessed was a “political minstrel show” . . . for those engaged in a subterfuge of intolerance.” Blogger, Conor Friedsdorf, who is also quoted in the Taranto column, states that “ . . . the vast majority of liberal writers would normally praise the act of highlighting the voices of people of color even if they aren’t particularly representative of [the audience]. Let it happen at a rally of conservatives however, and it winds up [being criticized] on the nations’ premiere op-ed page. As both Mr. Taranto and other commentators have observed, the political left is obsessed with racial diversity unless it occurs on the political right.”
In the middle of President Obama’s term of office and with his party in complete control of the federal government, doesn’t it make sense that a political protest movement would have more adherents among the party out of power than the one in control? Since African Americans vote in vast majorities for Democratic candidates and are rightfully proud (as are most Americans irrespective of ethnicity) that this nation elected its first black president, is it reasonable to expect large throngs of black Americans congregating in public in protest of his Administration?
Robert McCartney, a liberal Washington Post columnist, attended a Tea Party rally last week to determine just how reactionary and potentially violent the movement truly was. Answer: Not very. He reported Tea Party members are not seething, ready-to-explode racists, as some liberal commentators have caricatured them. While assortments of sign-carriers were present he ignored them and chose instead to interview, at random, numerous attendees.
“…On the whole, they struck me as passionate conservatives dedicated to working within the system rather than dangerous militia types or a revival of the Ku Klux Klan.
Although he found shrinking government to be their primary goal, none were clamoring for civil disobedience, much less armed revolt.
Interestingly, Politico, the non-partisan group that covers national affairs concluded much the same following a statistically valid sampling of 457 attendees at the Tea Party Tax-Day Rally in Washington, D.C. They found that: three out of four tea partiers were worried about the direction in which the country is headed; seventy-two percent were worried that the next generation’s standard of living will be lower than their own; fifty-one percent have a close friend or family member who is out of work and an incredibly high percent (29%) are small-business owners. Not quite the crazed insurrectionists the popular media make them out to be.
In the last two decades, Republicans and Democrats in turn have been given the opportunity by the voters to take responsibility and leadership to solve the most pressing problems of our country. The current debt explosion, the underfunding of Social Security and Medicare, our dependence on foreign oil owned mostly by despotic nations and the threat of Islamic fundamentalism have been coming at us for years. Each political party that has been given the opportunity by the American people to show leadership on any of these issues has frittered it away, being more concerned with having it all their way instead of seeking compromise solutions. Seeking retribution against their predecessors seems always to trump the opportunity to govern effectively.
The Tea Party movement is not the first nor will it be the last spontaneous coalescing of a political protest movement disgusted with all mainstream political parties. In one manner or another, this has happened many times before in our history and in some cases the movements ultimately morphed into the replacement of a political party. The original Federalists and Republicans transitioned into Democrats and Whigs, the latter of which was absorbed into the Republican party which first elected Abraham Lincoln as President.
In the late 1890s, and the early twentieth century the country experienced a populist period, often associated with three-time defeated Democratic presidential candidate, William Jennings Bryan. President Theodore Roosevelt altered the political landscape by reforming the Republican Party and adopting many progressive reforms (which the populists favored) to modify laissez-faire capitalism, and, of course, he ran for president in 1912 on a third party ticket. Many of the populist demands of the Bryan era such as breaking up large monopolistic concentrations of power ended up either becoming law or being adopted as Amendments to the Constitution (i.e.,direct election of Senators, women’s suffrage,etc.). In American history, our politics has adapted to the changes brought about by social upheaval, changes in our frontiers, urbanization and reactions against concentration of power. Because of this elasticity the democratic experiment created by our founding fathers has lasted and remained true to the basic principles embodied in our Constitution.
More recently, political protest movements altered the shape of our politics and our presidential elections. The long delayed Civil Rights Movement sprang from the grass roots of the nation and it radically changed the shape of our body politic and our political alignments.
It is not surprising that this phenomena has arisen and loosely coalesced into a movement, given the current poisoned atmosphere of our national politics, the major economic crisis of the past three years, the changing fabric of our population, (now no longer European in its growth), competition from globalization, the change from a manufacturing economy to a service economy and a failure of mainstream politicians effectively to inspire our people away from a growing feeling that America’s great exceptionalism may be a thing of the past.
We are surely in a turbulent election year and emotions are running high. At this point it appears that public anger at the political class as typified by tea parties, will result in many incumbents losing their seats this fall and right now the Democrats seem more endangered. But this movement is not controlled by the Republican Party and its aim is not to sweep Democrats from office. Rather, it is aimed at all those politicians who are elected year after year who seem utterly clueless about the anger that the voters have over their repeated failure to solve problems or improve the lives of the American people and who see their main job, once taking the oath of office, to start raising money for their reelection. Both parties should take account of the fact that the public holds both parties and Congress in very low esteem. The only thing on the upswing with the voters is cynicism and we can expect more of it now that the Administration seems to be trying to increase its standing by focusing its litigation guns at Wall Street. Can the public have confidence in any institution?
The movement also proves that the posturing and spin of those in office do not fool the people. Legislative chicanery and side deals done out of the light of day are in fact noticed, resented and exposed. Congress cannot regain the trust of the public until it stops taking us for fools.
On November 2, 2010, the makeup of Congress is likely to change drastically. Both parties will be affected by the decision of the voters. On November 3, the pundits will tell us with their usual certainty precisely what the message was that was sent, and as usual they will not agree. Coherence and democracy do not necessarily go hand in hand. Democracy and politics are much too messy and for that we ought to be grateful.

Excellent article on the Tea Party Movement!
I get angry when I get asked "where were you for 8 years of Bush". I called my representative's offices so often about the spending that they knew my name, and I suspect a couple knew my voice. TARP sent me over the edge, then Santelli said exactly what I was thinking. And, the rest they say, is history. Though I had never, ever attended a rally or protest, I get fed up with the lefties alleging my concern for, and love of my country were somehow only ramped up by the fact that a half-black man is now running this country. But, I no longer care what any, and I mean any of them think. My conscience is clear.

Well some here know how I feel about the Tea Party… its time to "close it down". If you are not prepared to do things considered unconventional and stick to the same tactics that have been done for some time now you are wasting your time. Im' wrong, you are thinking?! I have dished out tough love several times and some get it others insist on living in fantasy land doing the same things over and over again expecting a different outcome; something we all know is considered insanity!

The Tea Party is a gut feeling that true Americans have that many things are terribly wrong.
Two of the three branches of our America are of the Communist persuasion.
The Sons of Soros are in control and we want our America under the Constitution back and we want it back now.

If common sense prevails even just slightly, Obama will be the one-term president he deserves to be. But common sense needs to prevail more than that, because whoever replaces him needs to have the guts to shrink government to sustainable levels.
My biggest fear isn't that Obama will be re-elected – my biggest fear is that whoever replaces him won't be appreciably better once they get settled in the cozy, insulated, politically incestuous atmosphere known as Washington, D.C.
And as for congress…if they think that the principles behind the tea party are just a passing fad, think again. If they don't appreciate that self-restraint, integrity, liberty and personal responsibility are the backbone of a viable government, they need to go. Persistent pressure from the people has to continue, no matter who gets elected this fall or two years from now.
There's nothing tricky, or difficult to understand about the philosophy of the Tea Party Movement. Sadly the left and MSM have insanely attempted to obfuscate, blur, tar and feather clean grass roots Americans that are seeking their elected officials be a clean and Constitutionally adhered to government.

* Listen to and work for the people
* Adhere to the Constitution and your oath of office
* Support smaller government

Great read! The Tea Party is angry with Washington as a whole, right and left. I think that the early signs of the Tea Party was in ’92 and the protest vote for Perot. That grew from the fact that G.H.W. Bush broke his promise, “read my lips no new taxes.” Bill Clinton with NAFTA with bipartisan support. “W” with No Child Left Behind, Prescription Drug Benefits for Seniors, Amnesty (attempt), and the granddaddy screw job TARP. With 105 Trillion in unfunded mandates the insanity must be stopped or our children and grandchildren will be the ones who pay!

I am but one face of the Tea Party. I read and am informed, think and thank God for a brain to do so, contribute money to candidates I believe in to defeat those who I can not trust, I have a phone and make calls to elected representatives and write letters to them as well, I participate in some Tea Party meetings and events based on time and cost, follow the markets and the conservative TV commentators, read across the nation and worlds online papers, I engage in Tea Party talk with friends and family as well as strangers I run into and most importantly believe we as individuals from all walks of life and circumstance can provide mutual support and encouragement to defeat a government that has become bloated and arrogant to her people. I am certain that Patriotism is not dead and we can succeed

We're not hardcore Republicans, looking to do whatever the party tells us to do (a lot of us aren't Republicans at all). We are individuals that probably would agree on very little except that the government is out of control and needs some serious pruning!

A constitutional convention is what's called for. We've needed it for some time now.
1. We need an Amendment which allows for popular impeachment of Federal Judges through a process difficult enough to maintain judicial independence, but not so difficult as to be almost impossible. This amendment should also mandate that no decisions rendered by impeached judges can be used as legal precedent. This would prevent Judges from wreaking judicial havoc with impunity.
2. We need an amendment which insures that Politicians can be held to account through the legal process for decisions they make. As it now stands, Politicians never pay a price when they pass laws which wreck the lives of millions of people. If they can be called into court by the American people, they will make better—and fewer—decisions.
And, as always, we can't trust them, so we can't respect them.

Our Tea Party members are the remnants of our Constitutional Republic. We are the Americans who remain faithful to our Founders and to our freedoms outlined in the Bill of Rights and protected under the Constitution of the United States.

I was an Airborne Combat Engineer (Demolitions) Gulf War Vet. I am not about to tell any man to stand down in this fight. With that said…I am not convinced the TPM is a cure all either; however, they are a HUGE arrow in the quiver. Use them as a battlefield asset and watch their back. Their tactics may differ from yours just as Phyops is different from that of the Infantries, but they are still on the same side.
And don’t worry! With the illegal immigration debate coming more people will wake up. Because, people will die, again, from a tainted food supply, just like 2007, the violent marches will spread and get worse, the racist hate rhetoric from the left will quadruple, and the MSM is going to label opponents to amnesty as evil incarnate.
Obama will have everybody in a fever pitch and at each others throats until November.
It will be a long hot summer for damn sure and no place for a nervous person.

What the Tea Party represents is a renewal of the Melting Pot: people from a large swath of the political spectrum, except for the hard left, which is antithetical to the Tea Party, and indeed America, are welcome. It goes without saying, skin color and faith are irrelevant.
What the Tea Party isn't, is a gathering of race hucksters looking to buy favor from populations who they seek to convince are not, and never will be, a part of the American mainstream (as if that were even desirable), without their help. Those are the politics of division, and the dims have cornered that market.

I agree and to add there are a lot of black America weblogs popping up who are angry at the direction this Obama administration is taking their country and they feel as though they have no voice at all in the debate.
Many won't attend the TP activities for fear that other black Americans on the left will retaliate because they are going out against one of their own. However, there are millions of black Americans who see this administration for what it is and understand that all is not right with the Obama machine.
I can only hope come November that there will be a groundswell of support at the polls and with their help we can turn Congress up on its head. I really believe this will be the case especially if the Dems try to ram through illegal immigration amnesty, which would be just plain wrong.

What is the Tea Party Movement? Citizens concerned about the future of their country.
Maybe we should ask, what is the Progressive Movement? Take a good look around. Is this an economy that has been "pulled back from the brink?" Is this 'Change we can believe in?' Is this the 'post-racial, post-partisan society' they spoke about? Is this a new Era of Good Feelings? The only arguments the Left has to offer are fear and guilt. I refuse to acquiese in their government-by-guilt-trip.

The Tea Party people are people that intuitively understand that there is something wrong with the direction of the nation as we see it today. They instinctively see that the direction of this nation moving in the direction many nations have gone in the past 6,000 years. They see that typically any nation that has evolved to be the most powerful nation on the planet (egyptians, romans, english, etc.) eventually succumb to the ravages of war through defeat or from the weakening of the state through an internal demise (which opens the door to a foreign take over, in some cases with little to no violence, to extreme violence such as in Cuba 1947 and Russia 1920s)
Would not the excessive leveraging of the US dollar, drive a financial meltdown that would require extensive takeover from external foreign countries (china, arab countries, etc.)? Would it not set the stage for some group to insist on writing a new constitution? Through adding amendments…. Or possibly just putting one up for "sale"? Just like all of the bills that we have seen thus far? (Each of the major legislations have been over 1,000 pages, it cannot be true that the House of Representatives have written these in full, they have been developed over many years by the "think tanks") Would it not make sense to see when ALL of these bills are made into law the FINAL bill will be the necessary changes to the constitution to deliver the FINAL blow to the constitution?
These things are all intended to drive the nation to be FORCED into believing that the PHILOSOPHY of governing from the position of POWER is in the best interest of the people. That this philosophy, as defined by PLATO, gives the right of the GOVERNMENT the controls to ensure the GENERAL WELFARE of the governed.
With the Tea Party in tow, it is time we DEFINE what LIBERTY really is as posted previously:
The first philosophy on LIBERTY, as stated before and throughout the Founding Father's works, is the notion that Liberty is defined by that which constraints the government. Such that anything else we are free to pursue. And as such this constraint on the government is restricted to the basics to preserve our lives from physical harm. With MARKETS liberated to ensure the GENERAL WELFARE can be provided through Free Market mechanisms.
The second philosophy, as stated by progressive thinkers, is the notion that Liberty is defined by that which constraints the governed. Such that anything that not constrained or defined is prohibited. And as such this constraint on the governed is to reach out into the lives of the governed to protect them from real or invented concepts/threats that might harm the individual for real or through perception. With MARKETS constrained to ensure the GENERAL WELFARE can be provided by all since the government is at the helm and has the reins to control the Free Market to benefit all.
These two competing philosophies are just that, competing ways to control the general energy of mankind for the benefit of the those whom would ensure political power. As the political class grows in power and control, so to will their desire to gain more control and power and so to will their efforts to JUSTIFY their ends allows them to JUSTIFY their means. Thus, taking a true LIBERTY based on anything that is not expressly constrained to that of a LIBERTY that is based on only what is expressly acceptable.
If history is kind, it will mark this time as the time when America LOST it's Liberty and the Tea Party participants as the mechanism that either will save the nation from destruction or will have attempted to save the nation from destruction. As posted previously, we have lost the republic, it ceases to exist as it was originally built. In history, there is no model to learn from, we have squandered what the Founding Fathers have given to us.
Are the a nation to regain it? Yes. Are we strong enough to throw off the chains that have bound us? Yes.
But will there be enough of us? What happens if we stumble and fall, will we pick ourselves up? What will that look like? What will we have to do to sacrifice to bring us back to the path we started some 235 years ago?
I am not sure. I want to try. I want to see a better day for my children. I want them to be happy. I want them to see a new day. I want to grow old and talk of the time we lost the republic, but we woke up and put it back together again. I want to tell of the time that we saw as our politicians took over the government for their own benefit. How they made the common man a slave, directly through taxation as well as through dependence. I want my child to grow up with the ability to be whom ever he wants to be without testing from the Government to tell him if he can be somebody or if he has to study at a college or not. If he then has to work for the Government in a capacity to repay those student loans, or not. I want my son to not to have to open his car, his home and donate is prosperity unwillingly.
I want my son to live in LIBERTY as it was intended and have the RESPONSIBILITY of FREEDOM he deserves.
The founding Fathers asked this question:
“Are societies of men really capable of establishing good government from reflection and choice?”
If there is no GOD, and we are condemned to be mere animals that lurk these hallow lands to take what we can from each other to survive, then we only deserve the remnants of a LIBERTY lost. But I have hope, why? Because I know that there is a higher calling. I know that there is one thing that is true, regardless of the existence of GOD there still remains the CONCEPT of GOD. And through the concept of GOD can I lift my spirit to understand that I need not pursue my vices on this planet to fulfill my earthly desires, that through good character I can be a good human on this planet and make the equitable decisions without the need for GOVERNMENT to pretend to do this for me while lining their pockets with Gold.
Through this I have hope, I have love for my country, not for what it is now becoming, but for which is stood. For hope that one day every man, woman and child, will be able to stand up and see that the path defined by Plato has caused millions to die and many countless millions of families to be ripped apart. And this GODLESS philosophy requires the denial of GOD when the concept of GOD exists such that in the end. They must become that which they despise, and for me I will become all that I can to serve my fellow man and as such I serve the concept of GOD regardless of the fact of his existence, and so doing, if he does exist, he will take me and my family to a rightful place in heaven.
For me this is my commitment to mankind. To live the fullest and be that which I never knew I could become.

In Ron Paul's book "Revolution: A Manifesto" he said that the calls to Congress about TARP were 1000 to 1 against. I suspect that many current Tea Partiers were spending the TARP days finding out precisely how little their voices mattered to Congress, and that is why they are protesting now.

My fellow citizens, there is NO PROFIT in a government structured for LIBERTY! What I say to you is this; if there is NO PROFIT for those that RUN government to DEFEND liberty, than why should the citizens PURSUE liberty?
It is because WE, the citizens, PURSUE LIBERTY to realize our need to express our FREEDOM.
And if we wish to be free; if we really mean to preserve this purity to be a free people which will provide to ourselves, our families and our neighbors an incalculable set of privileges noticed among mankind; for which has been, for so long, given to us by the founding fathers of these United States;
If we mean NOT to shrug off and abandon the struggle which has engaged our citizens to MAINTAIN the LIBERTY for over 200 years, and to which we have pledged ourselves to LIBERTY without ever knowing life WITHOUT liberty; we today must stand to drive the concept of LIBERTY into our own home and resolve our selves to FIGHT the PROGRESSIVE virus that infects our minds with intent to push LIBERTY from our hearts!
For without LIBERTY, FREEDOM is lost.
If our FREEDOM is LOST, our nature as MANKIND is choked, and our FREEWILL is taken.
Such that when the walls of LIBERTY fall, the reign of SLAVERY rises again.
You might say, “These words you speak off, these concepts you express… this strange thing called LIBERTY and FREEDOM. WHY do I hear these words with a dull regret and emotionless indifference?”
I ask you, “Would it not be true that those whom might wish to PROFIT from the controls of GOVERNMENT, should encourage your ignorance and indifference toward LIBERTY and FREEDOM?”
“But what is LIBERTY?” you might chime, “What about this thing I know little of? How might it make my heart sing, my spirit soar, and my WILL dance in anticipation to serve my fellow citizens?”
Liberty, as it has been defined, is a freedom from external governmental restraint, compulsion, or interference and the freedom from subjection to the will of another claiming ownership of our own property or services.
But Liberty has also been known to mean permission granted to a sailor, for example, a liberty to go ashore for a leave and in the most limiting fashion it can also be used to justify limits on goods or services such that you have less choices which could imply that you have more FREEDOM from the confusion and effort of having to make choices.
But which makes the most sense, I ask, a LIBERTY given to you by what is not determined to be restricted?
Or a LIBERTY defined by what is expressly acceptable?
There is NO PROFIT for those whom would lead a government structured for LIBERTY! So if there is NO PROFIT for those that govern to DEFEND liberty, than how can the citizens PURSUE liberty?
Citizens can PURSUE liberty by ensuring there is no CARROT of PROFIT for those whom would govern.
But you might say to me, “There is no FREEDOM in PROFIT! This is the evil that should be eliminated!”
You also might say to me, “This pursuit of PROFIT is slavery that has caused much pain!”
But would it not be true to say that we speak of the concept of GREED? And this human vice had caused much pain in the world for centuries with the destruction of countries, families and individuals as they pursue GREED with abandon and ignore their human responsibilities to care and protect their fellow mankind.
If this is the natural state of affairs of the human condition should THIS not be the question, “What can we do to tame the beast we call GREED?” And would it not be true that all of mankind struggles with the challenge that greed presents itself? If this is our goal, to CONTROL the reigns of GREED, whom would have the consistent knowledge and unbiased personal understanding to determine how to deal with GREED?
What divine understanding would guide our own fate into the hands of others whom would be our friend so they can claim to eradicate this scourge of GREED which lies upon the soul of mankind? More importantly, whom is clairvoyant enough to be able to peer into the minds of mankind to determine whom is operating with GREED and even more curious is the question “Whom shall determine what is considered GREED and what might be a called a natural desire to make a PROFIT to provide for one’s family?”
You then might say to me, “That is clear, the government will provide the mechanism that will gain control of this fiend called GREED, they will take it and will guide it to achieve the FAIRNESS that we believe is necessary for the general welfare of all.”
And I say to you, “How do we resolve these two concepts that are in direct violation of each other? ‘There is no PROFIT for those whom govern to preserve LIBERTY’ and ‘We must give our LIBERTY to the government to save us from GREED to ensure the general welfare’.”
You cannot hold these beliefs as consistent concepts in your mind at the same time. It is IMPOSSIBLE!
Why is it impossible? There is only one method to fairness that can secure LIBERTY and tame GREED.
That is to put the power of GREED into a system where this ability to gain economic power through greed is distributed in society and most likely to be diluted among the population. But leveraging government to help grow Big Business consolidates the economic power to a few and thus the propensity for GREED to thrive will grow, and conversely, consolidating economic power WITHIN government control only consolidates and hides the GREED that is unleashed on the population by the politicians.
Is this the recipe for “General Welfare”? I think NOT!
Take note my friends for the common factor for the exposure to GREED is not mankind itself but the interference of THE GOVERNMENT itself!
Such that, if it is true that GREED will only blossom under the distorting influence of GOVERNMENT then we must ascertain that the full force of GREED cannot be realized without a fully functioning society that embraces the concept that LIBERTY shall be defined by what is expressly acceptable.
The process advocated for those whom PROFIT from GOVERNMENT is to shine the light of blame for other’s GREED such that the governed will advocate for a GOVERNMENT with more responsibility, thus delivering at every turn more opportunity for GREED to spread for POLITICIANS whom crave it the most.
“How can this be?” you might say as you try to leap to defend a crippled old tool used by many in the past.
I say it again; there is NO PROFIT for those whom would lead a government structured for LIBERTY! So if there is NO PROFIT for those that govern to DEFEND liberty, than how can the citizens PURSUE liberty?
Are not the CITIZENS also the POLITICIANS? So if there is no PROFIT in the pursuit of LIBERTY, where would the PROFIT lay? It will lay at the feet of the people that are NOT in GOVERNMENT. They are to govern their affairs as they see fit WITHOUT the obstruction that occurs from those POLITICIANS whom would govern FOR PROFIT. This ABILITY of the common citizen to govern their own affairs IS FREEDOM and it is the mechanism that is used to guide all of human efforts for the betterment of their fellow man. THIS IS THE GENERAL WELFARE.
In the beginning of this Republic we asked a question, “Are societies of men really capable of establishing good government from reflection and choice?” And we argued that this experiment we constructed would determine the general fate of mankind and if we fail in our efforts that we may, in our view, deserve to say that it is due to the general misfortune and fate of mankind that we are destined to depend on our political governance by accident and force.
You might say, “Oh, please, we have built a world beyond anything that mankind has created. There is no way that our Republic could see any other days than that of prosperity!”
I say to you, “Did the Romans realize that the day they elected Caesar to the throne and the Caesars that followed would lead to the day of the Roman collapse? Did the likes of Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini truly understand the impact of their efforts on their society and their people? I think not, would they have made different decisions if they could see the future? Possibly, but would it also be true that they set out to change their nations in a “positive” way at the beginning of their efforts without understanding the disasters they set in motion?”
All failed civilizations have pursued the goal of harnessing the natural energy of the human soul to guide the productive nature of the human hands for the benefit of some goal or cause. This ALWAYS results in those whom govern to set in motion activities that require that those that earn have their WEALTH taken to be provided to those whom do not earn in the NAME of the GENERAL WELFARE of the population. Most importantly, this little ploy ALWAYS enriches those POLITICIANS that advance this PHILOSOPHY.
“But what of your mention of General Welfare as stated in the Constitution? Doesn’t that give the POLITICANS the right to assist the governed in the name of FAIRNESS?” you might Question.
Ultimately we need to ask this question, “How could have we have written a Constitution that guaranteed LIBERTY yet also allowed the Government to take from the Earned to give to the unearned?” The answer is, we could NOT! It is impossible to twist the mechanisms of CHARITY within the cause of GOVERNMENT since the natural vice and temptation for POLITICANS over time to claim some portion of the redistributed wealth as their own leads to a STRATEGY and HUNGER to take MOST if NOT ALL of what is earned from those that labor diligently.
So how can we argue that Ecological Justice , Economic Justice, and Social Justice are defended in the Constitution by the “General Welfare” clause? Within the structure of GOVERNMENT we cannot since mankind will stretch their JUSTIFICATION to PROFIT for these causes as POLITICIANS. Through this JUSTICE the POLITICANS strive to CONTROL the natural energy of the human soul to ensure the hands of citizens are productive to their OWN design, while also allowing those whom would govern to be the middleman to profit from these exploits.
Thus would it make more sense to see the design of the GENERAL WELFARE as the MECHANISMS to ensure that the governed have the RESPONSIBILITY for their own FREEDOM? That they would pursue their own goals with their own property and abilities such that they can profit to fulfill their own duty to their family and local community? Does this statement in the Constitution now make more sense?
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
So I claim this; there IS PROFIT for those whom would be governed by a government structured for LIBERTY! So if there is PROFIT for those that are governed, how do THEY DEFEND liberty when those that govern will NOT PROFIT?
Would it not be fair to say that we should pursue those whom would be most capable to PROFIT in FREEDOM the most desirable to lead? Would it not be true to pursue those that have the largest commitment to their DUTY as CITIZENS to acquire the KNOWLEDGE required to ensure the mechanisms of the MARKETS are LIBERALISED to benefit the GENERAL WELFARE?
You may say to me, “But America has become so ingrained in this philosophy of the justice of distributing that which has not been earned that I don’t think I fully understand the definition of Liberty as it was enabled when the Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. How can we return to this knowledge? Will such things as the Tea Party Movement be enough?”
So what will happen if we do not fully comprehend the meaning of LIBERTY, or we cannot fully embrace the concept of the Responsibility of Freedom which requires us to fulfill the DUTY to ourselves, our families and the Nation as a whole? Since there is no profit in a well managed and controlled government, how do we stifle the best interests of the political pirates whom would pursue their ends to bake into the population the notion that it is the political pirate’s divine right to the wealth that others generate and the right to DISTRIBUTE it as they determine to be FAIR?
I say this, “The citizens MUST PURSUE liberty as a defined by the constitutional structure by ensuring there is a clear arena in which the likes of mankind can compete among each other in the NAME of PROFITS to serve each other such that their individual initiative and abilities can be rewarded by growing their OWN wealth freely. The CITIZENS MUST understand that this FREEDOM requires the responsibility to accept the reality that there are CONSEQUENCES to our own behavior and actions or INACTIONS. The CITIZENERY MUST accept the fact that we MUST create a tool to CERTIFY, TEST and RECOGNIZE what a CITIZEN’S MIND holds when being considered for POLITICAL OFFICE. And this individual must take an OATH that is TESTED throughout their service.”
If this were so, would it not be true that an individual that was capable and skilled would serve as their DUTY but remove themselves from that DUTY as quickly as possible? Is it not true the only line of work today that does not require specific “Skills” or any “Testing” or “Certification” is the AMERICAN POLITICAIN? Does it not make you wonder why there has not been an invention as such? Of course NOT! This strategy would prevent and eliminate the PROFIT in GOVERNMENT!
In the end, we the CITIZENS must make this commitment to invent the process that will make the PURSUIT OF LIBERTY POSSIBLE. Why? Because we have a right to our own Life, such that this life cannot be taken from us by the government or any citizen or non-citizen as long as we do not infringe upon another citizen's life. The right to our own life means that we are responsible for the choices we make regarding how we should live our lives, with the government's responsibility in helping us to preserve our life ONLY dictated to the efforts required to protect us from harm from other individuals as citizens or as foreign entities.
We have a right to Liberty defined by NOT what the government can do on your behalf, but on the explicit constraints of the government to ensure you have the Responsibility of Freedom to do what is in your own best interest.
And finally we have the right to the pursuit of Happiness, where this pursuit is capable within the context of Freedom to express our own human nature to create and become something more in life through our own choices and to be able to fail due to those choices or to be able to succeed with those choices and receive success's reward without penalty.
And these rights called Life, Liberty and Happiness are provided to use by a CREATOR and are not GIVEN to us by GOVERNMENT such that GOVERNMENT is therefore a NECESSARY EVIL such that it should be restrained to protecting our lives, codifying into law liberty and establishing an environment in which we can pursue our own happiness without restraint.
So we can see that these words are still true today,
“WE are endowed by our Creator……
…. with certain unalienable rights,…..
…. that among these are life….
…..liberty…
…. and the pursuit of happiness.”
So my friends, the final question is for you to answer in your soul;
“Are societies of men really capable of establishing good government from reflection and choice?”
We don't throw eggs, like the left did in Utah,….
We don't throw water bottles and debris like they did in Phoenix today,……..
We don't throw racial slurs like they could not prove we did in Washington,……
What we do throw,….and throughout the country,……….for all to see and admire,….
is expressions of our love for country.

This is about individuals taking personal responsibility for guiding the future of this country again. It would be nice if we could go about our lives without giving much regard to politics while we focus on our families, careers, and personal interests. We might be able to be complacent again if public service was truly treated as a matter of public trust and duty by honorable individuals rather than egotistical, power-seeking politicians who want to rule over us and increasingly mandate how we should live every aspect of our lives according to their grand plans. Our elected officials and bureaucrats have betrayed our trust, as the founders and framers of our Consttitution anticipated, so unfortunately we need to straighten out this mess again.
I didn't call my representative's offices, but I did feel the same frustration. When McCain got the nod as the Republican nominee, I felt at that point I had to do more than just vote. I was tired of voting for the lesser of two evils. After Santelli's rant, I went to the first Tea Party in March and then the Tax Day Tea Party. From there, I helped create a small group called NC Freedom (http://www.ncfreedom.us). We're not perfect, we're not a big group, but we've had multiple rallies and town hall meetings to inform the people. I believe the group has made and will continue to make an impact.

I don't see it happening. The recession would have to last two more years and we are already seeing signs of a recovery. The economic timing might help you out a little in the midterms, but it's going to bite you in 2012.

I see it happening. The Democrat congress will let tax cuts for the middle class lapse this December, the increased taxes from ObamaCare will kick in, the economy will continue to stagnate if not worsen, jobless claims will continue to hover above 9% nationally, and the icing on the cake will be Obama bowing to Putin at a White House social.
He's gone because he's an insult to the office of the President and he doesn't appreciate the power of free markets. The man has never worked a serious job in the private sector in his life, and his disdain for capitalism couldn't be more transparent.
Americans want a commander-in-chief with at minimum an appreciation for the entrepreneurial spirit that has helped make the USA unlike any other nation in the world. WE lift our lamp beside the golden door, and Obama spits on our exceptionalism and can-do spirit by saying, "No, you can't – but government can!"
He sells our birthright for a mess of pottage and doesn't blink an eye. He's gone.
