I Like Mike (Pence)
by Ned RyunThere’s been a lot of chatter about Mike Pence and a potential Presidential bid by him. From National Review to the Washington Examiner, to George Will to others at the Washington Post, even to Erick Erickson’s post on RedState, people are wondering will he or won’t he. Supposedly he’s making his decision this weekend about whether he will run for President or Governor of Indiana.
I think he should run. While not denigrating the other potential GOP candidates for President in 2012, ask yourself: do any of them really excite you? That should clear out half the field right there, if not three fourths. Then ask yourself who has held true to his or her principles under fire, time and time again? I’m not saying standing up and proclaiming this or that: words mean nothing to me. It’s what you actually do, and Mike Pence’s voting record has shown from No Child Left Behind to Medicare Part D to TARP to the stimulus bill, even taking a stand against the recent tax compromise, he has talked and walked the walk.
Then ask who you think has the ability to excite the base and not alienate independents? Keep asking yourself questions along these lines, and throw in the fact that Mike Pence is a very good communicator of the ideas we hold dear, and you start to realize a Mike Pence for President bid could really take off.
People have said he’s not that well known; I’ve done informal surveys with tea party leaders from across the country. They know him and they are fans. People have said raising money will be a problem. Conversations with donors have not shown that, and if he is embraced by the base, as I think he will be, raising money online from small donors will be there.
People have pointed to his lack of executive experience. I don’t buy that. Obama clearly didn’t need it (you can make the strong argument that it’s clear Obama could have used it), but that can be managed by surrounding himself with the right team.
I look at Mike as being able to unite the right: the fiscals, the socials and the national defense conservatives. And I believe he can win in 2012. If you think the same, go join this page. Click the “Like” button and sign the petition, and let’s give Mike a big nudge in the right direction.
And one last thing: Mike Pence, you’ll no doubt read this today. If you want to be President, I want you to be President. Go all in, or don’t get in. But if you go all in, we’ll go all in with you.

I also support Mike Pence. He's right on all of the issues, and he understands the Islamist threat more than most in Washington.
If the lefts attack machine comes out in full force against Mike – we have ourselves a candidate.
I like Mike also,he would make a fantastic no nonsense president and bring back the esteem the president of the United States of America should have, here at home and around the world.
The next President of the United States of America should have this as his/her platform:
- Openly supporting the elimination of Medicare/Social Security
- Implementation of a flat tax
- The elimination of every federal department which has no constitutional authority
- ENDING THE FEDERAL RESERVE and returning our nation to a gold/silver standard
Anything less is simply rearranging deck-chairs on the Titanic
Just like if the RINO establishment comes out against him, we know we have the right candidate.
Pence is a good man…
But the next President needs hand on executive experience. There is a reason that we elect Governors as President. They actually RUN things. Congress is an idea factory (not all good) and as you see with the Current Occupant, not necessarily a good training ground for a Chief Executive.
If you're going to go the Mike Pence route, then Mitch Daniels, governor of Indiana, is a better fit…
What id Mr Pence's position on AMNESTY for illegals?
.
I wish I knew more about Pence. I see that a lot of you like him, so I hope he gets into the race. He couldn't be worse than Romney, Gingrich or Huckabee.
The man has shown to be a person of INTEGRITY,something this country needs in a leader.
I like Mike Pence–everything I've heard about him appeals to the conservative in me. However, I have to agree with dcase. Mitch Daniels has an impressive record as an executive.
That is nice of the left to tell us exactly who they fear the most.
Medicare/Medicaid and social security are going to eliminate themselves. A flat tax is the most fair. I'm with you on eliminating federal departments that have no constitutional basis. And if we can't get rid of the Fed, at least open up the books and see what kind of chaos they've wrought.
You sound like a fellow libertarian to me!
Sarah needs to enter race to make sure the bar is kept high enough to get the candidates committed to repealing all laws not in compliance with the constitution.
I like Chris Christie, but he's already said he's got too much on plate with Jersey. Maybe in 2016.
I also like Jan Brewer from Arizona. Any governor who tells the feds to go bugger off is okay in my book.
But if you want real change, and I do mean real change, Ron Paul is the candidate. I know it will never happen. But imagine if it did.
If he was elected and had the support of congress, the Fed would be gone. Half the cabinet positions would be history. No legislation would be signed that did not have a basis in the Constitution. The budget would not only be balanced, but they would be working on bringing down the debt. We'd start closing unneeded military bases around the world. Do we really need to have bases in Germany and Japan anymore?
Oh well, I can dream.
As a libertarian I would never vote for Romney, Gingrich or Huckabee. They're ruling elitists.
Give me a candidate that cares about the written rule of law, the constitution, and the GOP can have my vote.
Give me another McCain, and forget it.
Some nasty little thumb-troll is letting us know it doesn't like Mr. Pence.
I guess it's time to get him in the race.
Yes, but Ron Paul on foreign policy worries me. I'm no "nation builder" but Terrorism is a real threat and making nice with the terrorists and dumping Israel are not going to change that threat. I want a President that understands that radical Muslims are working on either destroying us through real physical destruction or from the inside and it needs to be addressed. A hard stand needs to be made.
Our economy/debt and terrorism are the top things in my mind and I need someone that's on the same page as me on BOTH issues.
I like Christie in general, but I keep hearing that he's not a big fan of the 2nd amendment and a few other things that makes me cautious. I like the way he talks straight and it seems like he's done some things that are walking the walk. But I'm still cautious.
I like Jan Brewer as well. That woman has some real cajones.
I like the sound of Pence. I get the executive experience and do agree. But I'm willing to give him a look based on this article.
Good question. I forgot about that as one of my major issues
ECONOMY/DEBT/SIZE OF GOVERNMENT
TERRORISM
ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
I will wait until he cleans up his act on the open boarders and amnesty issue.
Here's some info. There's more at the link below.
Securing the Borders and Reforming Immigration Without Amnesty
"Our plan puts border security first and cracks down on those who knowingly hire illegal workers, but it also recognizes the need for a temporary worker program that operates without amnesty and harnesses the power of the private sector to avoid creating a huge new government bureaucracy."
-Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and Rep. Mike Pence
July 25, 2006
Securing the Borders First:
· The number one priority of any serious attempt at immigration reform must be a comprehensive and successful effort to secure the borders of the United States. Such an initiative must precede–not follow–the implementation of a temporary worker program. The border security initiative must include comprehensive surveillance that utilizes personnel and technology; infrastructure improvements including fences; checkpoints; detention facilities; judicial support; and deployment of additional Border Protection and Drug Enforcement personnel.
· This plan adopts the strongest provisions of the House and Senate-passed bills and addresses unlawful entry of terrorists and instruments of terror, undocumented immigrants, narcotics and human trafficking.
Certification and Trigger:
· The new temporary worker program will begin when a border security certification by the President is sent to Congress. This certification will be based on objective criteria and achievable goals, such as hiring and training a certain number of new border patrol agents, making additional detention beds available, and utilizing upgraded border surveillance technology. Also, part of the trigger will be a requirement that all necessary systems and infrastructure for the temporary worker program are ready and have been tested for reliability and accuracy, for example: secure cards can be produced, temporary worker databases are available, and the FBI is able to conduct the required fingerprint and criminal background checks.
· The bill will require that regulations for the temporary worker program be issued by the Department of Labor and licensing requirements be issued by the Department of Homeland Security not later than six months after enactment and that the program be ready for implementation two years after enactment. Therefore, the first two years after enactment will be dedicated to border security, and at the two-year point, if all criteria for the certification have been satisfied, the President will transmit the certification to Congress and the temporary worker program will begin.

Congressman Paul is highly regarded here for his honesty…
But President? No, he isn't the executive type. But turn him loose on the Fed. Now THAT we could get behind. A true conservative without ties to the Eastern establishment and the various groups that dominate our political scene (CFR, Trilateral Commission, etc) who has 'hand on' governing experience-
one who would bring Rep Paul in his inner circle?
You bet…
He would certainly meet Israel's approval – he is a mental slave to that foreign country.
Loony Pence – supporting the foreign country that attacked us. This guy is a TRAITOR! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkvmdFV5izE
You do not speak for America, Pence. Not by a long shot! Go to Israel.
So do I. I read his piece in "imprimis" about Presidential power among other topics and I was impressed.
Christie is NOT a Consitutional Conservative…
I will not vote for anything less…..
Read my response to ladykrystyna above, Rick. This is from Pence's position paper on immigration. It doesn't seem he is for amnesty.
He's for a liberal, guest worker program.
I could go with a Mitch Daniels. However, he has little if any name recognition. Anyone from Indiana here to enlighten us on Mitch Daniels?
That's a nice idea.
His guest worker program is weak and can lead to amnesty. Careful there. That's why I want to hear lots more by Pence to justify his position. Visit Numbers USA for a current listing on the top eight candidates and their immigration grades.

Pence isn't there yet or Mitch Daniels.
"Then ask who you think has the ability to excite the base and not alienate independents?" Nothing personal Ned. But if this is what makes POTUS 45…
I don't go out of my way to be belligerent. It bubbles to the surface when stupidity is portrayed as genius. When criminality is portrayed as justice. When deceit masquerades as honor.
I understand that POTUS 44 has lowered the bar for the Oval Office below the groundwater of the deepest Chicago landfill. I GET THAT. But if the litmus is "ask who you think has the ability to excite the base and not alienate independents" then the USA IS DONE. OVER.
I know nothing about Mike Pence. Unlike Rick Santorum – Terd Sandwich – I'm not passing harsh judgment. (Save the money Rick and stop running. Really. I'm just getting started)
The single greatest threat to the USA is the American banking system. The enemy within is killing us far better than Bin Laden, Chavez, Sharia Law and China together. Until Mikey Pence has something to say about THIS he is just another Bankster Mouthpiece. And this "conservative" label you throw around is just another card in the House Of Cards.
Although I don't disagree with you, there are somethings about Mike Pence I like better than Gov. Daniels.
Though fiscally conservative, Gov. Daniels has a tendency to be more more moderate many issues including immigration.
Rep. Pence is much more conservative on all issues and is much more aligned with with the Tea Party than Gov. Daniels.
The anti-semite has spoken!!!!!
Ron Paul's foreign policy views are firmly rooted in the writings of the founding fathers. They wrote multiple times that individuals are encouraged to engage in foreign trade, but keep the government out of it. If we don't, there's nothing but trouble.
Over the years, I'm beginning to agree with them.
Whoever runs has to be
1) Truly conservative
2) Electable
Both qualities are needed.
If I'm not mistaken isn't Ron Paul now chairman of the House committee that oversees the Fed?
Go get em' Congressman Paul!
Then ask who you think has the ability to excite the base and not alienate independents?
Ron Paul excited the base and drew in more independents than the GOP has ever seen. But the hijacked GOP leadership insisted on expensive pointless wars for Israel instead. And you got Obama. And because of that you got Obamacare.
NOT a Constitutional Conservative
You're starting to sound like a libertarian to me! Welcome aboard!
Thanks John.
I like the way they do concentrate on border security first. Stemming the tide, plugging the hole . . . whatever one wants to call it, MUST be done first and the plan does contain a provision for making sure that is done FIRST before moving on to any other provisions.
Guest worker programs – I can see this being something that MIGHT be necessary given the demand for people to do certain kinds of jobs. But is that really true. I'm wondering how that will play out and would like to hear the pros and cons of that. Sounds to me like just a continuation of "cheap labor" which drive down wages for others.
I've also heard that if we didn't do anything like this and we started having pay pickers more and the price of lettuce went up, it would be temporary and would encourage innovation (use of machines to do the picking) which would bring the prices back down and those people would be encouraged to prepare for better jobs.
But I like where it starts.
Here's the thing – what I like the most is someone that is willing to have the conversation, the back and forth. That is what I miss right now. Even if someone stood up and started spewing the usual Open Borders crap, if they were just willing to having a discussion, a debate, point by point, it would be better than what we have now – it's either Open Borders or we're a bunch of racists.
BTW, I'm not for amnesty either. They either will leave on their own or be found and removed. Get in the back of the line. PERIOD. Or don't bother coming back.
My family came here LEGALLY, my father's side at the turn of the 20th Century and my mom in the 1960s. All legal.
And they learned the language. That REALLY pisses my mom off because her family went from labor camps during the War to England and no one catered to them. They lived in army barracks until she was 12 years old, worked hard (NEVER went on unemployment; if their stupid union went on strike, my grandparents found other work), saved money and bought a modest home. And they learned to speak at least broken English and made sure their children learned to speak English as well, all the while still enjoying their own culture and Polish language.
Anyway, thanks for the info.
The single greatest threat to the USA is the American banking system.
If it was an American banking system the problems would be limited. There is nothing American about some system run by Rothschilds-types.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USGSOViaulc
I get that. But how does that square with terrorism right now? I mean, the cat is out of the bag.
And frankly, I don't believe that even if we did the isolation thing that eventually the terrorists would come for us.
I don't agree with a lot of foreign aid going out because it just goes into a black hole and never helps who it's supposed to help. The corrupt gov'ts just help themselves.
I also believe that there's nothing wrong with having allies, including Israel and if someone else has a problem with that, tough crap. Besides, Israel is just an excuse. Even if Israel didn't exist, there'd still be problems.
Mike Pence is a left-wing fascist RINO no better than McCain or Bush. He has been a constant supporter of amnesty for illegal third-world savages and has "worked with" (read surrendered to) the Democrats on multiple issues. Pence is a coward and a traitor.
Immigration is destroying the United States and it is doing so because most immigrants for the past 50 years have been third-world savages. If most immigrants were Whites, there would be much less of a problem although the last massive wave of immigration in the late-19th/early-20th centuries, while mostly from Europe, did a massive amount of damage to the U.S. by injecting a lot of left-wing fascist ideas into mainstream culture. The racial/marxist multicultural pathology got started from the previous wave of immigration and metastasized to include non-Whites.
But still, a wave of more or less high-IQ White people probably could have been survived and the damage minimized, but because of left-wing cowards and traitors like Ted Kennedy, the current wave of immigration is composed almost entirely of hostile, third-world savages with an average IQ somewhere in the 80s or low-90s. We are swiftly becoming an overpopulated, third-world hellhole.
All these third-world savages then become grist for the evil racial-marxists and their affirmative action mill. Hispanics, most Asians, Africans, etc. are all net consumers of taxpayer money. They're as bad as our domestic Blacks and that's pretty bad.
Its too bad that clockwise is a mental slave to his own stupidity and blind hatred.
What a sad soul he is, owell, time to move on with life.
Terrorism is a national threat, which the federal government is fully authorized to address. That's what the business end of the 82nd Airborne is for. I have no problem with that.
Until I hear more from Mitch Daniels, I have to go with this:
http://www.alipac.us/ftopict-217302.html
I still think the best ticket in 2012 is a Palin/Ron Paul ticket.
Regarding the evils of fractional reserve and central banking, there are lots of great introductory explanations on YourTube. Here are a few:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=535210677...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYZM58dulPE
Once you realize what's happening your gonna be REALLY pissed. So don't shoot the messenger.
I know YOU don't, but what about Ron Paul. I remember that I was interested in him in 2008 until he started talking the same talk as the liberals re terrorism – it's our fault. Turned me right off.
I can understand not liking the Patriot Act and not giving up liberty for security.
But terrorists need to be addressed and before I give any support to Ron Paul I need to know he agrees with me on that. Otherwise, I like him. I liked Rand Paul's response to the SOTU. Didn't have a lot of meat, but it was short and concise and very truthful.
I believe his full first name is "Mitchell".
What Paul means when he says that is because We The People have allowed government to meddle in the affairs of other governments, the founding father's warnings have come true.
That has been my impression of both, though I can't claim to know much about either.
Pence tries his best at channeling Reagan here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnoef7xW5sg
It's a good speach and he seems like a good man. But lots of "good" men have entered politics and look where we are. Its actions that are consistent with professed principles that matter.
How about a Pence/Paul ticket? A little "fusionism" between conservatives and libertarians to stick in the throats of statists.
He's much better than Romney and Gingrich, and from the little I know or can tell, probably a sight better than Huckabee.
What was Abraham Lincoln's background? I think character and conviction is more important than management experience. After all, how many managers would make worthy Presidents?
"So don't shoot the messenger."
Hey, man, didn't you get the memo about "New Tone"? Don't make me report you to the Ministry of Peace and Love.
;-D
Thanks for that. I'll check it out.
BTW, I'm absolutely sure I'll be pissed. I've been really pissed today because of that SOTU, because of reading on NRO that it's OFFICIAL – SS is permanently in the red – and because so few people want to do what we need to do about it – GET RID OF IT. Heck, getting rid of it will technically hurt me since I'm stupid enough to have not put anything away for retirement, but I'm willing to pull myself up by my bootstraps as best as I can, which will be easier if I can keep more of MY money.
And I hate that so many people have become so dependent on it, so ready to take SS, that they simply will not accept that the thing is DONE. It needs to be dumped.
I'm that kind of person that when presented with the Truth, no matter how bad, I do bounce back, dust myself off and keep going. I've had some personal Truths kick me in the ass over the last 4 months, and yet I'm still standing, still plowing through life.
The Truth hurts, but it has no agenda and makes us all better when we face it.
I'll know the Republic can be saved when more and more people start demanding that SS and MC be gotten rid of, along with any other entitlement programs. Otherwise, I'll know that we're just trying to put band-aids on a sucking chest wound.
Social security and central banking have one thing in common: they are ponzi schemes. Bernie Madoff looks like a piker compared to what has been perpetrated on US citizens by these institutionalized forms of theft.
The sad fact is that our savings have been eroded by inflationary policies of the political and banking classes to such a point that any savings you might have tucked away would be insufficient to live in a world where the dollar you socked away ten years ago is work 1/2 its value. So what are we offered instead? "Social security". A pyramid scheme that perpetuates the whole process of theft but across generations.
The gravest but most common error in political thinking among the general public is the naive idea that the government is special; that it's not just a bunch of people looking out for their own interests. When you start to treat government as an institution susceptible to the failings of the humans that constitute them (and then add to that the fact that they've got the guns), you start to appreciate the profound wisdom of the Founders and their attempts to secure individual liberty.
Pence for President…Pence/ Ryan or Michelle or Palin would be a great ticket http://mikepence.house.gov/
Totally get that.
But that's like telling me water is wet. Or even "I told you so." If he wants to be President, he needs to have solutions or a policy that addresses the REALITY not "shoulda, coulda woulda".
Cutting back getting involved in foreign gov'ts is fine. But it still doesn't address the terrorist problem. Suddenly turning our backs on Israel will not make the terrorists stop. Then they'll just kill us last, just like they'll do to the other useful idiots that stand up with the terrorists for whatever reason.
And I still believe that we would have been dragged into this with terrorists even if we minded our own business.
Romney: gives Obama a model for state control of the health care industry…no thanks.
Gingrich: seems to think that limited government is OK, but not in the area of technology where he'd like to dump taxpayer dollars into silly attempts to preserve competitive advantage. No thanks…I'll wait for the 5th wave and put my faith in the ingenuity of the market and its participants.
Huckabee: If I'm going to vote for a bass player it'll be Geddy Lee…but he's Canadian anyway, so that's out.
Dang it. Geddy Lee is some I might be able to get be able to vote for.
Thans for the clarity, clockwise. You've given me another reason to like Pence.
You are absolutely right. I used to be one of those people that used to believe that even though I didn't trust gov't, somehow I should still let them pass legislation that supposedly "helps people".
Until I finally woke up, took the Red Pill and never looked back.
I'm hoping that more and more Americans take the Red Pill.
This Republican for president topic is starting to,………..
turn into the flavor of the week department on this site.
By June, hopefully, we will be down to at least "Neapolitan"
My question is, what if they realize that we've realized that this is a pattern with them? Then they'll pretend to attack a—- Romney, and start leaving the winners alone. How did Romney win the straw poll in New Hampshire anyways?
Precisely the argument I was going to make!
I sort of agree with you. The problem is, you can say this about most politicians. There are a few good ones, but even if they have a stellar record with lots of good accomplishments you aren't going to know they are good or not until they're in office. If Mr.Pence chooses to run, don't discount him simply on the basis of being a lawyer.
"But if the litmus is "ask who you think has the ability to excite the base and not alienate independents" then the USA IS DONE. OVER. "
One of the many litmus test's beacuse, as we all know, these elections are decided by unaffiliated voters, and that has been the reality for quite some time. If that disturbs you, you might as well pack your bags and leave right now.
Well said!
I'm curious though, who does that leave in your opinion?
"Neapolitan" Pizza?
So who else is hungry?
Your gonna need to eat…you've got a whole lot more of this presidential talk to go.
Lincoln? You mean the original Illinois trampler of the Constitution. The man whose war of aggression against the Southern Confederacy, resulted in the deaths of 600,000 Americans, all because they executed their legitimate constitutional right to peacefully secede from the Union?
Its my opinion that Mr.Pence doesn't have as much experience as I would like, but if he distinguishes himself in debates and speeches? Who knows…There's only a few candidates who I know I dislike, namely Romney and Palin, the 1st beacuse he seems like an unprincipled aging Ken Doll, and the 2nd mainly beacuse of her screechy voice.
I've already been a bit of a pragmatist and I want someone who can destroy Obama in debates. That's why my preference is still nominally towards Gingrich, former acceptance of the Global warming lie and disgusting marital affairs notwithstanding. Other than that, candidates like Pawlenty and Daniels look like they could be good.
OOOOOOOO-RAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!
…and your choice is??
So I guess you'll be casting another vote for the poser?
We got Obama becasue all we could muster up was an old man who can't stick his arm up high enough to see which way the wind is really blowing. 2012 will be different.
I voted for Romney in the 2008 primary, who promptly dropped out immediately afterward.
I think this year I'll get excited after the primary. As long as Newt is nowhere to be seen…
Hear Hear
Ryan, of stimulus: "We didn't get enough bang for our buck"
No Paul, we didn't get ANY bang for "our buck", RINOs/marxists STOLE massive sums of tax-payer money, to propagate the union/bank/politico's unholy alliance. Based on his statements, just another establishment puppet. Pence, the same.
Daniels is about as conservative as any top executive can be…
For Mr Pence- who is admired here greatly- he is in Congress, where ideas flourish. Governors are where the rubber meets the road. They will always be more pragmatic. Remember, a Presidents job is to execute policy created by Congress, it isn't really necessary to have a firebrand conservative in that position.
Daniels is fiscally sound, good on foreign policy issues and a good man. He knows how to run a state.
There is a reason why Governors make the better Presidents…
For a moment I thought the post meant he was -for- No Child Left Behind. (Or better called All Children Left Behind!)
Now I see he voted against it. In that case, I'm OK with this guy.
Like I said, I don't disagree with you. Face it, Indiana is the only state in the region that isn't about to fall off the financial ledge, we have our debt problems too but when you think about our neighbors, Michigan, Ohio and Illinois, it is amazing that we haven't buried our selves as they did, though Govs. O'Banen and Kernan tried, and the credit goes to Gov. Daniels.
My worry with Gov. Daniels is that he has a streak of elitist in him. He is a graduate of the Woodrow Wilson SPIA at Princeton and got his JD from Georgetown and has been involved in politics since the 1960's. He tends to a lot like Sen.Lugar on many issues, very moderate, which isn't surprising since he worked for Lugur but could put u with a Bush lite President.
Most of it is personal, I like the Gov. both personally and for what he has done for Indiana but I know Rep. Pence a little better than I know Gov. Daniels and I like Rep. Pence's stand on many subjects better.
A lot of this is also pending on what Gov. Daniels does, Pence has shown interest in running for Indiana Governor so we will have to wait and see.
If he jumps in, I'll go all in as well.
being from Indiana and living in Congressman Pence's district I can testify that he is the real deal. If he wants to run for either spot, I will give him my vote.
Thanks. I didn't watch Obama last night so my brain didn't need 48 hours to recover. What an insipid man. It's the exact same speech he has given over and over. Does he even have a speech writer? I know. Rain man.
I've lived my whole life in Indianapolis. I have never worked for either Pence or Daniels.
I had the opportunity to talk with Mike Pence regularly years ago over lunches when he was involved with the Indiana Policy Review, a conservative 'think tank' addressing local issues of Indiana. He is solid on the issues, bright and optimistic. He is also a good man. He was also very good as a talk radio host. This was a good preparation for the position he now occupies. Selfishly, and perhaps as a practical political matter, I want Mike to be our next governor. He has awesome potential, but I'd like to see him seasoned in an executive position before placing him in the crucible. I like him too much to set him up in such a vulnerable position.
Mitch Daniels also checks all the conservative boxes in my opinion, and then some. He spent six years as governor having to work with a Democratic House and has done some very good things for our state in spite of strong opposition. He is .an innovative, free thinker. He is very budget-focused. As a former Presidential Budget advisor he knows the Federal Budget. He now has a Republican lock on the Indiana legislature. If you want to know what Mitch thinks, look over his plans for the remainder of his term during this time of conservative opportunity. Start with his recent State of the State address. http://www2.indystar.com/articles/7/211241-8027-2... This is who Mitch is. I think he would be an excellent President for this time in our history.
A good American Spectator bio: http://spectator.org/archives/2010/11/10/mitch-th...
Two very good men.
well, Pence can afford to be more ebullient in his conservatism. He is a fine man, and would get our vote. Didn't know about Daniels' east coast education; that is a (minor) problem. Would love to have a Big 10 or SEC President for a change, the Ivy League elitism is getting really old.
Is he a CFR guy, or any othe international organization? A lot of people don't know Newt Gingrich was CFR. THIS is the stuff we have to get away from, elitists with European ties.
But the vetting process is starting. We're somewhat suspicious of Tim Pawlenty- he did embrace cap and tax, a red flag if there ever is one- and fear that the Tea Party is being compromised by RINO
Progressives. We must all stay vigilant on this…
Greetings. I've always thought that Mitch's positions were a product of having to get things done in an environment of conflicting special interests and numerous agendas. He is not like Lugar_2011. Period. On the other hand, Rep. Pence has had the luxury of speaking only for himself, and not having the responsibility of getting the right things done. I believe this at least partially explains the differences in appearance of these two good men.
This session is a true litmus test of Governor Daniels' conservative/fiscal priorities. He is governing with Republican legislative unity. I know I'm watching what he does with this opportunity. So far I like what I hear out of the governor's office.
Am Spec Daniels bio from November: http://spectator.org/archives/2010/11/10/mitch-th...
I posted it in a Reply above as well. Sorry for the redundancy.
(That is not a reproach upon managers, by the way. I merely meant that having management experience isn't enough, or even necessarily necessary, to be President. After all, Billy Martin was a successful manager of the New York Yankees, but I wouldn't have considered him to be Presidential material.)
The only group that Gov. Daniels has been associated with, and that was because of an award, is the Arab-American Institute, he was given a Public Service award and that was because of his "Arab" heritage, his paternal grand parents were Syrian Christians that immigrated to the US prior to his birth. I really don't think that is an issue though at least it shouldn't be.
The one thing that bothers me more is his connection to Elli Lilly, he was one of the company presidents and still has deep ties to it.
Sadly, the last Big 10 guy in the WH was President Ford (U of M).
You Ron Paul advocates really need to get a clue. Ron Paul has no charisma. He and McCain were both too old and to dull to run for President. Either one would have given us Obama. We really need someone who can excite the base, not turn us off, or worse, make us indifferent.
I like Pence a lot. He has very strong principles. He has a spine and stands straight and tall against the liberals and their attacks. They haven't attacked him much though, so I guess we'd have to see how he reacts if he were running and they were going at him with all they have. I think he'd be okay knowing he had the backing of Conservatives. I like him and Jim DeMint because they both seem to know what they believe and won't give in no matter how much they are attacked.
Not sure… still thinking about it.
