Green Police Becomes a Reality in Cleveland
by Nicolas LorisRemember Audi’s absurd “Green Police” Super Bowl commercial where green cops arrest citizens for using plastic bags, plastic water bottles and sort through the community’s trash cans to ensure they’re recycling? Well, the absurdity is about to hit the streets of Cleveland.
Cleveland.com reports,
“It would be a stretch to say that Big Brother will hang out in Clevelanders’ trash cans, but the city plans to sort through curbside trash to make sure residents are recycling—and fine them $100 if they don’t. The move is part of a high-tech collection system the city will roll out next year with new trash and recycling carts embedded with radio frequency identification chips and bar codes.
The chips will allow city workers to monitor how often residents roll carts to the curb for collection. If a chip show a recyclable cart hasn’t been brought to the curb in weeks, a trash supervisor will sort through the trash for recyclables.”
The high-tech collection system is an expansion of a 15,000-resident pilot program that commenced in 2007. Proponents of the program argue that not only is the $2.5 million program good for the environment, but because the city will collect revenue from the fines and from recycled goods, the trash police will eventually raise revenue.
The article mentions that the city pays $30 per ton to place garbage in a landfill but would receive $26 per ton for recycling goods. We know that the city will pass the costs onto the consumer, but the article makes no mention of whether residents will reap any savings benefits.
Much more problematic is the intrusion onto individual liberties. Like much of the “Green Police” commercial—and the environmentalist movement as a whole—the goal is to change human behavior. But a recent Rasmussen survey “shows that only 17% of adults believe most Americans would be willing to make major cutbacks in their lifestyle in order to help save the environment. Most (65%) say that’s not the case.”
Skeptics of catastrophic temperature increases compare belief in global warming to a religion, saying that alarmists base their views on faith much more than concrete science. This could have significant consequences if Congress enacts cap-and-trade legislation or other policies that aim to increase Americans’ energy bills. The goal, of course, is to force consumers to use less energy.
We should allow for choice and respect the choices of others. If someone chooses not to drink bottled water because they believe it is bad for the environment, so be it. (Interestingly, the environmentalist push that tap water is unsafe led to the rise of bottled water.) Those who choose to drink tap water should respect the preference of those who enjoy bottled. Conflicts will certainly arise among people with different preferences, but to advocate that one is morally right and one is morally wrong is objectionable.

The environmentalist push to plastic bags as part of the save a tree movement is something to remember. It was the same crew who opposed nuclear power as well.
Maybe it is time to stop listening to those folks, eh?
here's a thought…use the dumbass politicians as bio fuel…yeah the smell would be bad for awhile but just imagine how much better the city would be once all the dumbasses were gone…next stop D.C.???????
It's a joke right? What's to keep an overzealous worker from trashing the trash with a recyclable or just reporting that it was done. How loony can one get? Seems to me that the city council of Cleveland could better spend its time culling their budget than sniffing around in garbage cans.
Will they put the "Call to prayer" speakers next to the recycle bins in Cleveland? THATS the question that needs to be asked.
A liberal wet dream come true in a commercial. Sad thing is, this is how the moonbats would like it.
"“It would be a stretch to say that Big Brother will hang out in Clevelanders’ trash cans, but the city plans to sort through curbside trash to make sure residents are recycling—and fine them $100 if they don’t. High-tech collection? Just how do they plan to "sort through" your garbage at curbside?? I can't imagine just how big and slow it'll be to that at the curbside for every house….big brother at its worst….
Note to self: never move to Cleveland nor visit the city ever again…
Hay, aren't they already doing that in CA, and haven't they received some negative feedback?
http://wn.com/Negative_Effects_of_Plastic_Bags
As I understand it, plastic bags are manufactured from petroleum byproducts.
no joke, already in Pittsburgh you can receive a citation for failure to separate a "recyclable" item, the kick is that the price of some materials is so low that some places find it cheaper to dump their recycled accumulation into the dump.
I think Breitbart.tv had Michelle Malkin on talking about this a few weeks ago. So Ohio is as bad as CA? NO WAY. I'm waiting for when CA tells us we can no longer use toilet paper and thankfully that will probably be around the same time the dollar is worthless, then we will see a rise in people stealing cash but not for lining their pockets, more like wiping their butts.
Oddly enough I used this same video last weekend for a blog post I did http://hollylamb.wordpress.com/2010/08/21/the-gre... However GREEN had a completely different meaning for me.
LOL THAT WILL FADE AS MONEY GETS LOW.
The "green police" are paving the way for the "thought police".
If this trend continues on its current trajectory before you know it simply owning certain books or writing certain words or daring to support the constitution itself will become punishable criminal acts…
This is a deliberate and measured action aimed at desensitizing you to further government intrusion into your everyday lives to achieve the progressive's ultimate goal of the eventual control of every moment of your lives.
You can start a laundry list of the tragedies resulting from Envirowhackjobs 'good intentions'
The EPA is solely responsible for much of the problems that California has and much of the rest of the country. You see we have been too trusting in their motives for decades. Little did we know that they were merely economy destroying wolves in sheeps clothing. Time to look back over every decision and determine how each of their directives, decisions and policies were flawed,,,,,,,,,SCRATCH THAT—- STOP THEM DEAD IN THEIR TRACKS RIGHT NOW AND DE-FUND THE AGENCY
What's to stop them from putting in their own plastics…. Just to fine someone!??
All of their ideas cost money and are based on a fraud. What is the matter with all these dopes? Not only is there a cost associated with the devices there is always a cost associated with having to hire a Green Policeman to be the police and monitor.
Now we're hiring people to monitor garbage?? Don't they have real crime?
Well, I live in Cleveland. A few weeks ago I was at the gas station, and the attendant was emptying the recycle can, and all of the other cans into one large can. Cleveland, actually Cuyahoga County is 60% Democrat, and the city has gone to he!!
The beaten down never to make a comeback of the Nanny State Brits, so long sheeple losers, already have cameras trained on their garbage "bins". Wedge by their own making between the Nanny State and the Muslim hordes wanting Sharia Laws to displace English Common Law, they are pretty much dead to Western Culture. Oh, and, the Labour party pretty much killed off all English culture that deserved defending. Cameron is pathetic piece of work. They've got nothing to save them.
Progressive busy bodies and their faithful helpful media are eventually in your garbage can, medicine cabinet, bedroom, refrigerator, classroom, school lunch, hey, go read the Brit papers on Drudge's links for a peek into the future. The Daily Mail is a wealth of how stupid the Nanny State can get.
Sadly, we have dumb sheeple here begging for the Nanny State to watch over them. Pathetic, isn't it.
GREEN JOBS!!!! Thousands of new union jobs as Green Engineers (trash sorters / inspectors). Full union benefits and bonuses based on how many 'tickets' they issue to the thoughtless citizens.
I can see it now some angry neighbor purposely 'salting' a garbage can with recyclables to get the neighbor a fine.
Guess we may have to do some fingerprinting when something is found, Cleveland is very corrupt
Fantastic news!!!
We will spend money and resources to embed chips essentially in garbage to track it.
But we won't work to track illegal aliens.
We will create 'revenue' streams by fining people for how they dispose of their garbage.
But we will provide free services for illegal aliens.
We will legislate and create regulation after regulation and law after law, apparently in minute detail, to control the daily lives of our citizens.
But we won't enforce already existing federal laws on illegal entry into this country.
We will prosecute, persecute, invade, control and monitor those born and naturalized as citizens.
But will turn our back on illegals that make it across the border by breaking our federal laws and allow them to do as they please and provide them free services and even declare their 'illegal' offspring that are born here as citizens.
How can anyone not accept that argument that Progressives HATE America and Americans?
Recycling in our area goes to the same dump as the regular garbage, but costs a bunch more in salaries, gas, additional garbage trucks … Remind me again why we're caving in to something so stupid.
Have any of us ever wondered where environmentalists live, how they live, cook, heat a home, TV, flush toilets, drive to work, refrigerate, kinds of foods they eat etc. I say put the stinking worms in a forest with no electricity, water, transportation, fuel, or means of survival. Than, maybe in a few months, we can have a rational discussion. GRRrrr
I already have a picture of barack obama on my wall for my daily 2 minutes of hate.
I don't hate him, I pity him.
Finally made it Missy. Went to the memorial, he has this place set up for a very very large crowd. There were thousands there already. I am staying 20 miles away in the Westin and nearly everyone here is going tomorrow. This is going to be BIG.
"but because the city will collect revenue from the fines and from recycled goods, the trash police will eventually raise revenue"
So, revenue will be generated from the recycled goods?
Now, since the recycled goods are being tracked, and they know who disposed of them: SHOULDN'T THAT REVENUE BE RETURNED TO THE CITIZEN WHO RECYCLED IT?
I mean, wouldn't THAT be true SOCIAL JUSTICE?????
Or, my bad, is it only social justice when you take something from someone who earned it, produced it or contributed it and give that something to someone else who wasn't involved in the process?
The numbers are looking VERY BIG!
The DC Metro cops are having to find space for all of the buses that registered in advance and from what I understand they may have to expand the street closures to accommodate the crowd!
This WILL be one for the ages no matter how the media talking heads try to spin it, I'm DVR-ing it and I'm going to transfer it to DVD as soon as I can before anyone has a chance to scrub it from history.
Copy copy copy!!!
We have to preserve it for history's sake in any way we can!
Be safe and DON'T BREAK RANKS!
Hmmmmmm……..
Me thinks on garbage/recycle inspection day, that would be an opportune time to have potty flushing problems which dictates the alternative disposal route.
Sorry officer, my toilet wouldn't flush…..sooooooo…..
Why is it that liberal/progressive/democrat definitions of 'revenue' NEVER entail producing something? It never involves manufacturing something. It never involves creating anything.
It ALWAYS involves making people pay a tax, fine or levy for something.
I hear the Biden's of the world say that those of us who do produce, who do earn, who are contributers: You owe something back because the government provided the opportunity for you to be successful.
Huh?
If the government provides such great opportunities for success, why are they so hell bent on dismantling the 'system'?
Why do they constantly say the reason that people aren't successful is because of the 'system'?
Why do they pretend that those who are successful were given the success or it was handed to them?
You can't have it both ways.
You can't tell me that I need to pay more and more and more in taxes because the wonderful system has provided for me.
And then tell my lazy cousin that he is a loser because the system doesn't work and we need to change it.
Frankly, anyone who is successful is successful IN SPITE of Government.
Not because of it.
Thumbs up JoS!!! Excellent point.
Don't listen to the MEDIA, BECOME THE MEDIA!!!
Here is some more news!
AMMO BAN!!! http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/08/27/conser...
and
The "National Education Association" r giving teachers reading assignments from Saul Alinsky! http://www.nea.org/tools/17231.htm
Wow, Joseph, this topic really got you seeing red.
Good, I gave you three thumbs up so far.
At this rate you'll be in the positives soon. :^)
I do have my handcuffs, leaving my other item locked in the hotel safe. "I" will have the original video, in person, shot live. I have 8 hours of recording I can do on my high def cam. Everyone was super nice, just would walk up and ask where are you from, then engage in how O is F'ing this country.
Haven't heard anyone driving farther than me, but alot of people flew in from farther away.
30 years from now, they will play my (non 3-d ancient video) of this event and say "we have uncovered what really happened that day in DC".
Any negatives I have have been the result of either a cursory perusal of my lectures, or poor reading comprehension.
Indeed.
Thanks for the heads up. Sounds just like San Francisco. That disease must be contagious.
I'll be sure to throw the bad stuff in my LIBERAL neighbors trash can, that way when he gets arrested or fined I'll get a big kick out of it.
Actually, I knew this was coming when I saw it on that Superbowl Commercial. I knew the Liberals would be starting up the disposal of our freedoms.
If you take a large magnet to the chips, it probably screws them up. Worth a shot. Otherwise you can smash them. The magnet is cheap at any hardware store.
VOICEOFONE – great idea! I know some Liberals – will be dropping offensive-to-the-state things in their trash if trashchips come to my town.
Is this why I can't vote democrat?
“It would be a stretch to say that Big Brother will hang out in Clevelanders’ trash cans, but the city plans to sort through curbside trash to make sure residents are recycling—and fine them $100 if they don’t."
But, but, isn't having a government organization sifting through your trash, and handing out fines, exactly like having Big Brother in your trash can's?
I mean, he said one thing in half the sentence and said the opposite in the other half of the sentence. Did I miss a sentence? Is this one of those crazy Brietbart "editing" jobs I've heard about?
"if Congress enacts cap-and-trade legislation ………….The goal, of course, is to force consumers to use less energy."
Nonsense. Most people will use less energy, true, but business will be forced to buy "carbon offsets" through a carbon credit exchange (yes, the dreaded new CCX) which has been estimated will create 10 TRILLION DOLLARS in trades.
If anyone thinks this would be about "saving the environment," you are oh so wrong.
Yeah, me too.
If I read this correctly, all you have to do to avoid being "inspected" is put the recyclable bin at the curb. Voila. Doesn't say anything has to be in it. As long as it's there, the eletronic tracking gidgeywat doesn't sound off bells in some socialist central office.
Me thinks you're onto something there.
and keep the cell phone cams and other video equipment at the ready!!! I'll take a copy for off-site storage….lol
I saw that ammo ban article a few days ago…let's see we'll either have to stop shooting bambi, shoot bambi with plastic bullets, shoot bambi with arrows (wood and plastic of course), or maybe use a taser to zap bambi…although moose hunters might find getting close enough to taser it might be a tad bit dangerous….lol
Agenda 21 is moving along apace…
ROFL. That guy is a true example of the Peter Principle.
The thought police are already spread around the country. They're called the LSM.
Another Chicago?
For a City that has no money it makes perfect sense
Yes, but it's dangerous to interfere with such activities. A policeman could be injured and the hospital costs, and recuperation time involved are expenses the city wishes to prevent.
Amen SK, DEFUND THE EPA……………..
The EPA MAY (not sure) have originally been devised to meet a genuine need. Problem is, like
so many US Govlt Departments they were quietly and systematically infiltrated by the hard Left.
They have expanded their original mandate to the point of absurdity, and the American public has
stood by picking our nose, like four year olds………………… WAKE THE HELL UP, AMERICA!
.
I would agree, except they would destroy the forest due to their ineptitude and lack of survival skills.
Yes, strong magnets can have an adverse effect on chips.
Maybe Clevelanders should adopt a Greek cultural hallmark: Throwing toiletpaper into the trash.
Also, wipe with the pages of Mother Jones and The Nation, they're very absorbent.
Cap and trade is a means to make a few extremely wealthy. Take a look at what it's done for alley gore. Now imagine BO and his troll buddies in the same boat. They make billions while you move into a big cardboard box with the rest of us and we search for food from trash bins close to those mansions. Hey, maybe we could get a green job picking through the trash. It would be a two for one. We can search for food while verifying their trash is free of recyclables.
Might I add the new twirlly lightbulb mandate. You just know that the next thing they will be screaming about is mercury in the dumps and water. Never mind that it's coming from their stupid light bulbs THEY made us buy in the first place.
Gawd JoS,,,,don't be giving them any ideas…….
the Left will even sell my trash to GIVE to the non-functional?
Well I guess it's a place to start, ……….so after I become accustomed to GIVING my trash,,,,,,
then what will they come after?:-)
.
I'll be looking for it on your blog!
There are quite a few people from Oregon that went according to the Oregon912project.com website, I'll be praying for everything to go well and that there is peace.
Be sure to tell everyone you know to turn the other cheek if anyone comes looking for trouble!
The minute people start to break ranks the Max Stream Media will have a field day with every out of context photo and happening.
Be an accurate witness but most of all…
BE SAFE!
LMAO,,,,,,you ARE E V I L ryda
.
watch it JoS, don't insult the crowd just when you're getting their confidence and admiration,
ARE YOU YOUR OWN WORST ENEMY???
Perhaps you were formerly just attempting to make US 'think' too hard???
.
Well, I gave you a thumbs up partly because even though it is clear you are passionatly P O'd, you can lay out your case without using all caps for everything and multiple exclamation points. See enough of that on here from the liberal trolls
It is ABSURD! We have SIX types of trash collectors in our community.
1) Regular garbage.
2) Recycleables.
3) Yard waste.
4) Leaves.
5) Furniture and appliance.
6) Appliances with freon.
And that doesn't include the scavengers in the pick-up trucks.
Or the electronics drop-off points.
They burn more fuel running all these trucks than they save by recycling.
Progressive Steam Media was setting up tonight. I will keep the peace. I want this to be peaceful. I want this to be about Glenn's message, not about NBP inciting people to do things they typically wouldn't do.
I have a feeling I will have a few people looking at my posts here tomorrow Missy. Gonna be interesting to say the least.
BTW, ever been to McMinnville? I moved there when I was 3 and lived there until I went to college.
It's simply unAmerican to be so concerned what other people do that is private. Like the last paragraph about drinking water. But of course it makes so much sense – common sense – that the Left simply cannot understand it. They are nothing more than busybodies and we know what C.S. Lewis had to say about that!
I have spent so many long hot days working there, its hard to forget all of those rolling miles of wheat fields and filberts…
When you get in between Dundee and McMinnville it's is absolutely beautiful on a hot August afternoon!
That's the one thing we have a lot of here in Oregon is green and open!
I started to laugh hysterically at the Cleveland moonbats…..
…and then I remembered that I live in California, where our overlords in the state legislature are on the verge of outlawing that most dangerous and satanic of evils known as the plastic grocery bag.
If you're up to the research, take a gander at how much energy is used in recycling, and the amount of pollution recycling produces. Cleveland is essentially dumpster diving for scrap metal, and other treasures, so as to make a profit. The fines are a hedge.
Progressives? What did Reagan do to curb illegals? Oh yeah, amnesty. George W? Attempted amnesty. Now stop your foolishness. Progressives only hate stupid Americans.
Soon we will have you sorting your recyclables by color, too. If you have enough time for tea parties, you have enough time for recycling.
Fines are an awesome source of revenue. Shouldn't the least socially responsible among us shoulder the greatest burden?
"STOP THEM DEAD IN THEIR TRACKS RIGHT NOW AND DE-FUND THE AGENCY"
No extra response. I just wanted to repeat the statement. Right on.
I debated a Lefty at a Farmer's Market about free choice vs. governmental enforcement and touched upon these exact issues. Of course, he ultimately called me "unreasonable" and stormed off when he couldn't come up with a response, other than a personal attack.
"they were quietly and systematically infiltrated by the hard Left"
So-called "environmental" groups, "workers" movements (unions), centrally planned education, all of these are hallmarks of marxist/communist infiltration. Domestically, what we call the "hard left" are nothing more than the useful idiots that these foreign infiltrators have used, until now, when we've finally elected one of the infiltrators to the highest office in the land.
I'm not saying that to nitpick. I'm saying it so that those who have considered themselves "proud leftists" in this country understand that they are NOT serving the environment or humanity the way they believe. But instead are being used to bring about the destruction of everything they THINK they're "protecting."
Maybe it's the glue they're sniffing in the backroom council meeting room?
"It ALWAYS involves making people pay a tax, fine or levy for something. "
Excellent and add to that how come every one of their solutions involves force.
So the 47% who pay no fed income tax who use most of the social services are socially responsible?
Also what do you define as "socially responsible"? Someone who blindly obeys the state? Brown shirt?
So are junkies, welfare moms, poor people, deadbeats, and people who force others to pay for their health care and schools and entitlements also not socially irresponsible since they don't pull their own weight?
How did you end up like this? You actually acknowledge the state is using this as a revenue stream and you are content with the state telling us what we can do with our garbage. What's next, are you going to audit our lives and tell us what furniture to buy, what to wear, how much we can weigh?
What part of liberalism/liberty is what you support?
"Fines are an awesome source of revenue."
Well, at least you ADMIT that schemes like this are just a left-wing power trip to control people and extort their money.
"Cleveland could better spend its time culling their budget than sniffing around in garbage cans."
Yes, but don't you know that rats are perfectly happy with sniffing around in garbage cans. Even democRATS.
Progressives only hate the America that was and the America that is. They just love the new Fifth Reich America they wish to create, where the state (led by enlightened technocrats with degrees in ethnic and gender studies) allocates goods by taking from those they dislike and giving to those they like. Just look at GE or SEIU for good examples of that.
And when the science or facts utterly fails to support their "solutions"? Shut up, they will explain.
At least it is becoming generally known how vicious and dishonest pests are progressives. Which is why they generally run and hide from that label.
California must lead the way on this green stuff, i think recycled toilet paper is the next logical step. if that works then they can try recycled food, you know, for food.
yummie.
Cleveland, take a look at Detroit……that is your future……
LOL….ComradeK144…..and no one says it better than you when you are inspired to speak.
Thanks, always a pleasure to read your thoughts.
BTW, I watched it happen little by little, no one seemed to care.
.
"I hear the Biden's of the world say that those of us who do produce, who do earn, who are contributers: You owe something back because the government provided the opportunity for you to be successful. "
That's called "contract with society" which I believe Socrates first proposed and also is explained by Thomas Hobbes in Leviathan. Its a bogus argument. The government has monopolized those services. It would be no different if I mowed your lawn against your wishes then handed you a $1000 invoice and said "you owe me".
Also participation is not condemned perpetual membership. If I shop at Walmart that does not obligate me to "owe" Walmart.
One interesting piece of hypocrisy about "social contract" is that businesses, the free market and capitalism and corporations ALSO provided goods and services that one could argue you should be "indebted to" yet npo social contract supporter ever argues anyone owes corporations.
This is one sad, but possible commercial. God have mercy on us as we travel down this politically correct road the lib's have us on.
Recyle bin……meet sledge hammer. High tech chip meets untimely end at the hands of a citizen who doesn't wish to be monitored this week. Film at eleven….
I don't know about you all, but I ask for plastic when in grocery stores. I also recycle every tid-bit of plastic in my home and personally drop it off at the recycling center. I work with several lib's that kiss obama's ass and hug trees, but I am constantly pulling out bottles and cans out of the trash. They finally have just dropped them off in my office because they know I will give them sh*t for being hypocrites.
Yeah, I don't hate him. I hate everything he says, does, thinks, plans, allows, excuses, approves, stands for, pushes, praises, and believes.
But I don't hate HIM.
to liberals, not recycling is more dangerous than intimidating people at the polls or allowing illegals to pour over the borders.
In other news the real Police and Firemen will be laid off to pay for the program.
What if you are living "really green" and do not buy products that need to be recycled at all?Do you still get fined for not filling up the recycling bins??
I guess people will have to put security cameras pointed out at the trash collection area in front of their homes.
Man, my home town can't get anything right.
Brilliant!!
Also, as an aside…the cap and trade legislation and "conservation" in general is flawed;here's why…if you conserve/cut energy usage then the electric company has to raise its base rates because it is not selling enough electricity to make money…then you conserve even more to try to lower your increased electric bill, and the company increases its rates again, on and on….These electric companies run generators 24/7 whether you turn a light switch on or not….Gee, who is wasting electricity and destroying the environment then!? Many years ago(35 or so) my families business, which uses a lot of electricity, use to get a lower rate for using MORE electricity…go figure?Just further proof that environmentalism is all about control over people, not saving anything.
I reuse my plastic bags. I have three dogs that I walk nightly, and those bags come in handy. I try to be a good neighbor.
Anyone not progressive is what you define as stupid. Anyone successful you define as stupid. Problpem is you progressives are just full of piss and hate and think that that makes for good polciy decisions. Laws, regulations and taxation based on piss and hate. Brilliant. Yet WE'RE the stupid ones.
BWHAHAH!
I like to make an effort every now and then, LMAO2!!!
You got time to stand in line for a welfare check, you got time to dig landfills. It's not like you have to take time off from work like Tea Party members do. Those Tea party people you hate are paying for your welfare check.
How do you keep a liberal from getting paid?
Hide his welfare check in his work boots.
"Shouldn't the least socially responsible among us shoulder the greatest burden? "
Perhaps the dumbest statement I have read. I could see you as a football coach.
"Shouldn't the slowest, dumbest and weakest of you be our starting QB?"
What an idiot. You liberals that post here COLELCTIVELY might give a drunken monkey a challenge at tic tac toe, but you'd still lose.
Never argue with someone at a farmers market they are populated by vegans, vegetarians and people heavily into organic food. Unless they are farmers who are usually practical.
I doubt that people will take these light bulbs to the hazardous waste collection centers.
