Reason.tv: Madam Turned NY Gov. Candidate Kristin Davis’s Platform is No joke
by Nick GillespieKristin Davis rose to notoriety as the madam who provided New York Attorney General and Gov. Eliot Spitzer with the escorts that led to his demise. Davis ended up going to jail for providing a business populated by and for consenting adults. Spitzer’s penalty? Possibly getting a show on CNN.
Now Davis herself is running the Empire State’s top slot in Albany, on a platform this is simple and straightforward in libertarian sanity: She wants to legalize (and tax) marijuana and prostitution. For a state as deep in the red as New York, that’s no joke. She has also proposed liberalizing gaming laws and called for gambling casinos in the Catskills.
I built a multi-million dollar escort service from scratch before pleading guilty to promoting prostitution. Prostitution in New York is estimated to be a $5 Billion a year business. Legalization and a reasonable tax rate could bring $ 1Billion in new revenues to New York State each year. Legalizing Marijuana would reap another $2 Billion a year. Then New York could balance the budget and still cut property and income taxes.
Additionally, she wants to legalize gay marriage because the state shouldn’t discriminate and highlight the inequities of a criminal justice system that treats the politically powerless far worse than the politically powerful. Read more here.
Davis’ official campaign site is here.
Davis has enlisted the aid of legendary political operative Roger Stone for a campaign which has no chance of knocking off presumptive gubernatorial shoe-in Andrew Cuomo. But her run gives voice to a series of issues that deserve to be heard now more than ever. And her run gives form to a vision of smart governance and policy that is not simply provocative but utterly persuasive.
Reason.tv’s Nick Gillespie sat down with Davis to talk about her platform, the hypocrisy of elected officials, and her coming web-based reality show, Madam Governor, which will document her campaign.

Did You Plug the Hole Yet Daddy?
Is it November Yet?
DTOM! http://RightWingStuff.com
Take 10 minutes to watch this vid on why we cannot have people like this running a State let alone the Country…
You won't be sorry…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFXuGIpsdE0
Isn't this kind of like inviting the fox into the chicken coop for dinner?
Please tell me we can get a better candidate………..
Anyone can run, it's up to the voting populace to not elect the morons… And we don't have a great track record there on either side of the aisle.
Oh, great…
Bad enough the clowns the two-party system ensconces…now the freelance clowns are jumping in…and since the two-party can't field anyone with any intelligence, a freelance clown can actually get some traction…
To New Yorkers still in the state…sell everything you have to and get out. Now…
(That goes for my sister-in-law Chriss, too…)
Well!!!!!!
This just contradicts my earlier post of today that all the good five dollar hookers haave gone to work for ACORN!
I stand corrected.
I bet she would win in Minnesota.
If I lived in NY, I'd vote for. At least she honest about being a prostitute or a madame, which is far more than you can say for other candidates She's definitely put the "date" back in candidate.
Very good, Drifter….
Thanks for the link.
amen.
We are gonna have to get smarter fast or we'll just keep sending more of the same to DC. Again, the GOOOH party has a good idea. Citizen house legislators, short terms, stay in their districts except for big votes twice a year. The rest of the time….THEY WORK FOR US and hello…WebMeeting…take a giant step into the computer age, morons. Term limits for EVERYONE in gov't. EVERY ONE at EVERY LEVEL. No more career civil servants or politicians OR judges.
I can live with that!
While the obvious qualifier of her ability to work with whores is a resume-ehancer for politics, I think everything about her plays into the Leftist agenda.
Legalizing marijuana is an idea for responsible grown-ups, not for the populist children who lack only the deadening bliss of the buzz to keep them happily voting Democrat for the remainder of our declining Republic.
It's how Castro has maintained power for so long. On any given Sunday in Cuba, you can barely walk the streets without getting high on second-hand hash.
When we stop making having access to GAZILLIONS OF DOLLARS the primary criteria for winning elections, we got a shot. We gotta get past the TV AD HYPE as the only way to know who's running and what they stand for.
It's not impossible. It's just not what we're USED TO so it will take a bit of time to 'retrain' the brain. But it is absolutely critical to getting decent people in office. They mostly don't run now cause nobody but the elite can get their hands on that kind of money.
WELL I've met the candidates in my state who are running, face to face, and NO TV commercial will change my mind. MY VOTE IS NO LONGER FOR SALE TO THE BEST AD MAN.
i don't know, legalising pot and hookers, i am open to, but the gay marriage no way. can they have civil unions, ok, but not marriage. pot and prostitution, we have never stopped that, so why not legalise it, and make a few bucks in taxes, the ultimate sin taxes. legalising pot will stop lots of drug traffic, and produce a new up and growing market, same with prostitution, just not like the european model. in one country a woman went on unemployment, they offered her a job in a brothel, when she refused, they cut her unemployment. if hooking was legal, we can keep out teens, get health exams, and taxes. on gay marriage, ok, but oly if they cannot get a divorce!
Just what we need — Amsterdam America! Forget Churches; she wants a country where there's a crack house, porn shop, and brothel on every street corner! Try raising a family in that environment! No thanks!
I once lived in a country where there were brothels everywhere. I remember walking by the local brothel during the daytime, and there were a dozen fatherless children watching passersby from the second-story balcony. My soul bled for those little children! They were no doubt the children of the whores who worked inside and the slugs who frequented the place from the outside. Sick seems to know no bounds today!
Common sense doesn't normally fly in the face of government beuracracy. How many trillions over the years on the war against drugs? I hate the idea of legalizing drugs, but hey the war aint working. Take the huge profit out and maybe reduce crime too. Can't be worse.
Every woman on the planet is likely to vote against her. Easy access for men and legal too. HMMMM.
Sin taxes, like a tax on marijuana, is not part of the libertarian philosophy. It is another attempt to extract money and give government more reasons to spend. Give them a dollar and they will spend five.
Furthermore, trying to tax marijuana will just turn people back to the black market.
Here is a list of the Marxist, Socialist, Communists who MUST be voted out:

Forget about this washed out old hooker. She's just a diversion.
TS
My pleasure, ma'am..
Well, here in NY, since the Republican Party can't get their heads out of their a$$es, she may *be* the better candidate.
Interesting…Usually politicians don't become whores until AFTER they are elected.
I think the brothels would be confined to certain places not unlike strip clubs and adult stores. Prostitution exists anyway, no need a woman can't have some legal protection while doing it. Most of those girls at the Bunny Ranch seem to be doing ok. Dont solicit prostitutes myself but dont really care if other people want to. It's their choice not mine and don't feel a need to judge them on it. But then again I'm a permissive liberal.
Even whores have children too. Would you rather they were aborted?
Excellent video, Drifter. Thanks for providing the link.
It stinks we lost Spitzer. Another Cuomo doesnt bode well either. Rudy was a decent mayor although he went too overboard on certain things like cabaret licenses, street vendors, squatters, and topless clubs, not to mention constantly backing the NYPD even when they made egregious errors like with Dialo, but still the city was in decent shape. He cleaned up the cesspool that was Times Square too, even though it has lost all character and looks like a big lame mall now filled with midwestern tourists.
All I have to say she probably has more business experience than Obama who is supposedly the president of this country going to hell in a handbasket.
BUT on a more serious note, soon we'll see pimps running for mayors in NY state, pedophiles getting appointed for positions in the school districts, serial rapists running for office etc etc….and if this hooker won't win, Obama will appoint her as a czar.
Caligula and Satan are alive and well and working in tandem with the progressives.
Get a grip.
Libertarians have a very odd definition of "sanity"
A great deal of limited government means taking personal responsibility and not having government being our nanny. She is quite right about that. Where she is wrong is using these funds to further feed the government beast. The author also pointed out that the campaign has no chance but is important for bringing these beliefs into the mainstream.
I agree. How are we to be taken seriously with people like this running for office?
perhaps topless press conferences? just keep helen thomas from that press pool.
There all at Orginizing for America getting trained Cowboy.
On another note, take a peek at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOGG_osOoVg&fe....
Truth hurts, doesn't it?
There's certainly a bit of novelty value in a politician being honest about what the voters are going to end up with.
The wrestler was actually a sane choice in comparison to Al Franken!
Hopefully no one takes her version of Libertarian too seriously.
Well NY, if you elect Davis at least you would know up front that you are going to get screwed out of a lot of money!
Great video, required viewing!
A fine example of the libertarian false choice: whores with children or abortion. Why do we not shoot for somewhere in the middle?
. . . and she's about three surgeries away from looking like that pitiful cat-woman mess of plastic FAIL.
So the libertarians at Reason.tv have now embraced bigger government, increased government spending, and increased taxation all so they can push their liberal social issues like legalized prostitution and pot use. Does anyone there really think that providing a new revenue stream by taxing prostitution and drugs will close the deficit gap? For the liberal and leftists, new revenue streams equal new spending. In fact, no revenue streams equal new spending. Legalized prostitution and pot use will require new government agencies for licensing and policing, which equals bigger government and more spending.
The whole platform here is a joke badly disquised as a fiscal conservative argument. It is a shameful attempt by these libertarians to push their social issues under the quise of fiscal responsibility. I find the whole premise insulting to intelligent discourse.
I'm not really saying it's as clear cut as that. I said that more out of the supposed pro-life stance in here and to get a reaction. A jerk thing to do I agree.
Of course there should be some middle ground. But women turn to prostitution when in need and sometimes they just want to make alot of money at it. Either way the demand for it will never cease. Ever. If it's legal at least the women can stay out of jail and maybe even get a health plan out of the deal.
Yes. But they define it very, very well.
Oh Great another Cuomo the idiot who shut down the Shoreham Nuclear facility on the day it was completed, fueled, and ready to generate power for Long Island.

Well, how does all this square with the fact that we're Jesus's country? Hmmmmm?
You didn't mention Jesus once in your flimsy little article, now didja?
And why do you think that was?
Could it have been, well, I don't know, possibly… SATAN????!!??!?!???
LMAO
Good call, great video, that should be required viewing in all grade schools and anyone running for office, tip of the hat to you, sir,
I have watched this before, i wish all Americans would watch it at least once, its a great reminder of what the forefathers gave to us.
The American citizenry are going to have to become a great deal more responsible for themselves before we can even begin to talk about those issues.
As to gay marriage, if government extends certain legal benefits to married couples, then they need to extend them to gay couples. Just don't presume to redefine the word marriage to describe a gay union. I look at it this way: I can put a saddle and bridle on a cow and ride it into town. It can perform essentially all the same functions as a horse, but that doesn't mean we redefine the word horse to mean either a horse or a cow. People would laugh at me if I tried. A gay union and a hetero union are still fundamentally different even if they can serve the same functions, and they deserve different words.
Mara
Everyone should watch it once a month…
Along with a reading of the Gettysburg Addy, 10 Commandments, and the Bill of Rights…
I want to give you many thumbs up for giving me a chuckle.
Irony of the day: we get this song and dance about the wonders of a platform designed to legalize sins and then tax the snot out of them and how it will solve all the budgetary woes just two posts above an article that points out that sin taxes never work to create the revenue we're told they will.
Character does matter.
I can think of nothing more appropriate for the "whore of Babylon" than to elect an actual whore to represent her. I don't want to paint the whole state with NY city's reputation, but it IS happening in your jurisdiction.
Anyone who thinks this is actually a good idea needs to check their soul for a pulse.
Also, wouldn't that make Obama New York's de facto pimp?
What you said really goes to the heart of the matter. Neither party is likely to support a candidate that they can't control. Worse is the fact they believe they are dealing with a captive audience and truly only have to cater to the undecided/swing votes.
One thing I am beginning to realize is how important it is that everyone get involved with the primaries. The more people involved and scrutinizing the candidates the better. Perhaps we can still wrest control of the candidate choice from the hands of the political parties.
You sound like you need a reality check. Maybe you should try voting in a primary once in a while.
The exception that proves the rule. Don't beat yourself up.
Let's not be too critical…she's par for the course when it comes to politicians,
they all sell themselves one way or another, and all are willing to be bought!!
It totally figures. Just when you think things can't get any worse people like this propose that we legalize that which is immoral for the sake of generating revenue. They have no concept of living within their means or tightening the belt. Oh No. In their minds it only means they/we just haven't stooped low enough. It's like the armed robber realizing there are bigger richer targets than the neighborhood convenience store or the drug dealer that targets the kids rather than the adults knowing the parents are more or less powerless to stop their own children from stealing them blind. All they care about is where the MORE is going to come from rather than how they can do with less. This is the major difference between one who is liberal (more is more) and one who is conservative (less is more).
I vote every chance I get. Only vote I've missed recently was a local referendum on building a new library for our town. Fortunately, it passed without my vote.
Have you seen what NY's Republican party has offered us lately?
Ain't it the truth! Just when you think you can see eye to eye with them on issues, they go and pull something like this out of their butts. Unbelievable. I think the libertarians should rename themselves "The Reasonable Atheist Party" or RAP.

How can you be libertarian with only some things? I'm a libertarian. I want as little government as possible. If that means that pot is legal – I say good. But, how do these people create these arbitrary lines in the sand. Why not make all drugs legal? At least then you could claim to be running on principle. Government should get out of the business of picking winners and losers. So you can have your pot, but I can't have my vicodin (what)?
When Mr. Gillespie asked her about the plural marriage issue she said "I haven't really thought about it". You haven't really thought about it? You feel qualified to govern a state with the population of New York (or any state for that matter) and you haven't thought about it? Writing in Mickey Mouse is as appropriate as voting for someone who honestly answers a question like that by saying "I haven't really thought about it". Mickey Mouse hasn't really thought about it either.
Here's an easy idea for how to turn the economy around in New York – shrink government. Cut the bureaucracy, cut the taxes, cut the business killing regulation, sure – legalize pot (if it's the will of the people), but take a lesson from Trump and start to enjoy saying "You're Fired!" At least she has a plan for all the unemployed – prostitution (brilliant).
This is when "We the People" become a joke, and 'fall apart'. The majority of comments here PLEAD for what we are objecting to: Government control of individual's weakness. Government MUST make, prostitution, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, transgender, transsexual, homosexuality, Carbon Dioxide generation, sugar, abortion, cursing, profit, fishing, gocarts, plastic bags, texting and whatever might hurt the collective *ILLEGAL*!
HELP US OBAMA we might HURT OURSELVES, my neighbors can't control thier desires and are a potential threat to me!
I'd vote for ms Davis LONG before I'd vote for Harry, Nancy, or Barry! She, at least has run a successful business, that our founders understood! They had thier patch of cannabis, grapes, stills, female slaves, etc. Individual desire, drives transfer of wealth and power!
Onward and upward! LEGISLATE MORALITY! (or give the government power over you to do it!)
Or you can decide for yourself!
Hey why not sell kiddy soft core porn that can make some revenue.
HOW ABOUT YOU JUST QUIT SPENDING MONEY YOU MORONS
Nah. I rarely gnaw on other women for their looks. I made an exception for Helen Thomas because she conformed her outer to her inner self, as every woman must. Growing older is tough enough for women, that's why it's best to be chary and charitable whenever possible to a sister.
If the inner woman is plastic, the outer must conform. Women forget how quickly their stock crashes, and they have so little moral beauty on which to fall back.
So saying, I should soon leave off with the cussing. . . pretty fucking soon.
.
yup, yup, yes and correct. very sage sir.
Greece is a mess in part because people are subverting and avoiding the tax structure with a HUGE active black market.
Greece isn't the cradle of Western civilization for nothin', they figured out their mess of a country and innovated.
Yes, I have. It IS disheartening. It begs the question: Does the majority of the NY population not actually prefer that kind of representation? They seem to keep nominating the same class of losers over and over. I see a pattern. I think that too many people up there just can not be bothered with doing their civic duty. At least that's what it looks like from where I'm standing. If the whole state actually chooses to be represented by that sort, I believe I'd be packing my bags and voting with my feet.
You nailed it, Kipling–thanks.
I'm thinkin' tranny and a clueless one at that.
Before we legalize any drugs, we need to get much more in tune with the philosophy of personal responsibility. I don't want to legalize drugs to a society that thinks it can do whatever it want and devil take the consequences because they expect the rest of us to pick them up.
Prostitution is human trafficking! It is the use and degradation of women and children, for the profit of the rich. God help this nation if all of these crazy libertarian ideas get put into practice. When you are in power (like governments), what you permit you promote. To treat intimate things between a man and a woman as though it were just commerce is to besmirch your own soul. To advocate that everything in life should be an unfettered transaction is to say that human beings have no soul and that there is nothing transcendent about human life. Libertarians do not care if women and girls are beaten and abused into prostitution because libertarians lack any instinct to protect. Male strength is for the protection of the defenseless and the innocent. Men either protect- or they are predators. Libertarians are indifferent to the sufferings of the innocent. Tea Partiers beware of libertarians! They are small government uber-liberals.
You forgot to endorse the scriptures of Galt as an excellent companion reader…
Drifter seems to have a new favorite movie…
The FBI statistics indicate that the most common age to enter prostitution is… 12! Do you really believe that you can "decide for yourself" at 12? Prostitution is human trafficking! We already have a situation where big government is in bed with big corporations. Since good people will never sell others like meat, do you want big government in bed with organized crime?
An interesting companion piece, also dove-tails nicely with "The Fountainhead" and "Atlas Shrugged".

Amazing how the MSM can ignore what amounts to an ocean (Pacific sized) of information that could elevate civilization to heights never experienced…
Mr Galt
Seemed too esoteric and subtle…But I like your thinking…
Like fantum, it will be posted daily…for all to see..
Seems the Drifter exists in a Twilight Zone of movies…But they always have a theme for better living…like a parable…
The golden rule folks – it works both ways. Liberty is often defined as the freedom to live your life as you choose providing you don’t interfere with the liberty of others. Liberty is obviously a still revolutionary and frightening thing for some of you… I would venture to say that cheating on your spouse is far more culturally destructive than soliciting a prostitute, the difference being that cheating on your spouse won’t land you in jail.
QUESTION: Women, what's the odds your man has had a visit to the oriental spa or lady of the night?
ANSWER: 55%.
$5,000,000,000 industry
at $50/trick, that's 100,000,000 treats
if the average customer has 25 snacks per year, that's 4,000,000 customers
19,500,000 population of New York
9,750,000 males (assuming an even distribution of 50/50 female/male)
7,312,500 male population 18 and above (assuming 75% of males are 18+)
4,000,000/7,312,500 = 0.55
Most women have no idea what hubby is up to when he has a business convention in Las Vegas.
The typical fairly welll off middle aged man that has a wife that sits around and eats all day and watches Oprah just aint delivering that spark anymore.
Vegas and many other communities have serviced a hungry market.
Unlike the millions of fatherless children bred by the welfare state? The act of making prostitution illegal contributes to these horrible situations. Mind you, I am not condoning the activity, I’m just stating the historical and real time facts about the oldest profession. Nevada, Austria, Holland; All of these places have less human trafficking than where it is criminalized. Is an adult man or woman who chooses to sell their body any different than someone who makes the choice to marry a “successful” individual over someone else who was not? I know of more than a few that need to be rounded up.
Most people still dismiss as foolish suggesting Hitler was a leftist progressive socialist.
Usually the more leftist they are determines if I end the point with; the only difference between fascists and progressives is fascists love their country.
JA
Love of Country is great, as long as said country, abides by the Rule of Law… not the whims of a man..
My fellow Libertarians and Conservative Brethren,
Though this idea that liberalization of all markets is the method to Freedom, we also must understand that Freedom in it's truest sense would and should be run by people of astute character.
In a Freedom as such, there would be no need to tax these Vices because they would not exist.
There is a tight tie between vice and a liberal mind. We must not forget that those whom seek freedom to feed their vice will in the end choose the shackles in-which to bind us.
How do we "fix" this Libertarian dilemma?
Through ETHICS.
It is not ethical to TAX a vice. If we TAX a vice then GOVERNMENT will become fixated on this taxable income and be ADDICTED to its flow of cash. Public Officials will then have the desire to increase it's flow and thus begin the job of pushing these vices to the wider population. It will eventually be "OK" to have a prostitute. It may even become a "status" symbol within certain circles.
My friends this is a Rouse that we cannot stand to support as Libertarians and Conservatives.
If there is a battle, it should be around the concept of whether to make these vices ILLEGAL and ENFORCEABLE.
But we should be CLEAR making it LEGAL does not give us cause to TAX. But if it would be LEGAL (No Penalty if Caught Doing So) it would allow the SOULS of men and women to determine what is right for them. It would allow GOVERNMENT to invest in the human energy to promote the SHAMEFULNESS of being involved in this kind of VICE. At the very worst it might remain ILLEGAL and the very Libertarian perspective it would remain a business that is not supported (You could not get a license to run this kind of business, thus if found out that you have this business you would receive a fine since you don't have a license.) Those caught at these establishments would then have their names listed for 1 year on a public website as an example. Such that people could choose to engage in this activity, but it would not be a viable business and would attribute some shame in doing so if caught.
It would push this underground. But ethically isn't that what we would want as a society? In the end we all must meet our maker and determine how clean our soul might be. We all must face our families in all our nakedness when we fall, in hopes that they will still love us with all of our shortcomings and allow us to be better and grow stronger through our failures. Yes?
This is ETHICS 101 my friends.
If you think this is a great idea.
My apologies, you have failed your first ETHICS class.
Go home and think about this again.
Publius
After attending a town hall meeting this weekend, I've heard a very compelling argument against term limits – I still have mixed thoughts regarding this one –
Best thing I heard this weekend – we are the party of no, and it's spelled KNOW!
Is that Jesse Ventura in drag?
…of fame, or an appointment with this "candidate"? (wink)
Good post Manassas -
this is an idiotic post johnny – you have no clue what the hell you're talking about
Now a Pot Tax…?
Speaking of a grass roots revolt!
However for some reason “ghanja bagger” doesn’t have the same ring to it.
guess we know how you spend your time and money –
pathetic
Understand. However in this context it is meant mainly as a tweak.
The jokes abounded when the owner of Nevada's Mustang Ranch, Joe Conforte, was found guilty of tax evasion and the Government took over the Mustang Ranch. I suppose for decorum I won't repeat some of the best jokes.
Well, I’m happily married & I’ve never been to a prostitute (Johnny has his own life), although I do know many people who have married based on economic viability. How is that different? Sell your adult body for 30 minutes vs. sell your adult body in exchange for stability? Pathetic is denying the obvious with pomp and ceremony. Who are you to judge?
Too funny…..Just don’t do the Church Lady dance.
I love Nick and Reason. But he does look like the hit man from No Country For Old Men.
Kind of like people in California, lol
I think my line in the sand is right between 'that which is highly addictive and/or known to cause slow or immediate death' and 'pot'.
