Reason.tv: Sweden’s March Toward Capitalism – Economist Andreas Bergh on the “Capitalist Welfare State”
by Nick GillespieIn The Capitalist Welfare State, Lund University economist Andreas Bergh explains how Sweden has managed to increase economic productivity despite its large public sector.
Bergh says that despite popular mythology, Sweden is not a socialist success story but instead owes its economic growth to the lowered tax rates and deregulation of the early 1990s, which allowed innovation and investment to flourish. Bergh also discusses how Sweden’s national voucher program revitalized the country’s educational system and warns that Americans who are hoping to emulate Swedish success by growing the public sector are learning the wrong lessons from Sweden.
Produced by Ted Balaker and Daniel B. Klein; filmed by Jonathan Liberman and Henrik Devell; edited by Zach Weissmueller; with special thanks to Niclas Berggren, Martin Borgs, Nils Karlson, and the Ratio Institute .

Socialism is always the problem, never the solution.
Sounds like social liberal / fiscal conservative – which is a lie.
Liberals learn the lessons they want to learn, which usually have little to do with reality.
Let's not forget Sweden's march towards dhimmitude too. Then again, Sweden is hardly alone in that respect.
Won't see Obama or any of his followers/government workers going on any junkets to Sweden any time soon….Wouldn't want any government leaders to actually learn from a success story.
Ah Sweden,……….all Swedes,………
Imagine if all Americans were blue eyed and blond.
But Barry promised us lollipops and unicorns? This guy is obviously a Tea Party person, planted to disrupt the delusion of the coming utopia.
I guess they at least came halfway around and figured that without a thriving private sector they won't have anyone paying for the welfare state. Thats 50% smarter than the leaders of the US and EU.
Good advice, but nobody is listening!
OFF Topic: Glenn Beck just made a call to research and send all info we can find on Maurice Strong, archive vids and other info and send it to him ASAP!!!
Hey, I've heard that said somewhere before..
Very considered report – deregulation allowing economic expansion, low taxation of capital but high taxation of labor and consumption to allow capital movement, advised not to give any more money to the government. Also noted that Swedes don't eat or drink themselves to death and he spoke the whole segment in English and you can see why they like it over there.
ENOUGH!
Just saw that too Will do. Sounds like he is partners with CRIME INC.

Kudos for a great video. I have long held the position that people in the US would be much more amenable to big government if US governements were as effective as Sweden's, Norway's or Demark's. High taxes are never good but I persona will tollerate them if they feel they are getting something of value in return. That does not happen in the country. In the US the government provides frudulently poor value for the amount of money it extracts from the tax payers.
When the Commisioner of the IRS can't do his own taxes, it's time for a system restore(sorry, Microsoft). Funny how the most progressive country on the continent(yes, that's continent, Mr. Obama)is reversing 40 years of liberal theology for the capitalist dream. The dunces of the Obama administration are probably wondering "wat up wif dat?"
'Capitalist' and 'Welfare' are not compatible, and no not belong in the same sentence. Welfare destroys the very things that make free markets/capitalism such a successful system: The accumulation of capital goods through savings and development/investment, and the economic freedom to direct resources where they are in demand.
Wealth confiscation and redistribution hurts the very people it is supposed to help because it takes away the maintenance of current capital goods, as well as the development of future capital goods which would eventually go to the poorer citizens at cheaper costs. Lets not forget the jobs that are lost.
it totally rips apart the peaceful organization of the division of labor, and instead replaces it with a hegemonic system that relies on theft.
Ludwig Von Mises laid all of this out very clearly, and anyone who wants to understand this should check out his works.
Note that Swedens efficient government still cannot deliver healthcare services effectively. We do not have the government personnel that Sweden has.
A market system is still the best way to deliver medical services. This being said our current healthsystem is driven by the government and Insurance companies that are given waivers from antitrust laws. I believe this distorts the price.
What you say is illustrated in the banking system right now. As a small business owner and I chat with a lot of other small business owners, banks are not allowing lines of credit. Business is getting better slowly but banks are not lending.
I think this is because all the capital is being used to bailout poor investments(good money after bad), as a result new, good investments can't be made. This is the Japanese scenario, decades of low growth. I hope I'm wrong.
Great interview. I enjoyed it very much. Keep them coming.

Wrong.
That's true, but Sweden is doing good job of slowly weaning the public off of the public sector.
If Sweden can successfully forge a marriage between a large governmsnt and a vibrant private sector, that would be something we can all learn from and should emulate. But school vouchers? Now that would be going way to far. I will admit what most other Progressives will never admit. We need the public schools for social-ist indoctrination in order to keep the big government -Unions-high taxes– needed programs going and expanding. The more it costs to run, the less freedom you have, as money is Freedom and we really don't want to encourage that. I've let the cat out of the bag…whoops..
Hyperbole aside maybe we can pull the genie out of the bottle. Have you ever seen a genie afraid to leave the bottle?
Folks. I present you with Allran vs. New York Fed. Heroes come from unlikely places. The Western District of North Carolina is as good as any other place. (Well….subtext omitted)

Or Hayek's The Fatal Conceit
Can you be a little more specific, do you mean what I said this sounds like is wrong or do you mean that 'social liberal / fiscal conservative – which is a lie' is wrong?
I'll admit I didn't watch the vid.
Does this have anything to do with either my post or this thread?
What the hell are you talking about?

LoL.disregard that, I suck cocks. I don't have any friends. And if I did have any Swedish friends, I would know that they don't talk about their awesome country that way.
