Taking Care of Business: Reason Saves Cleveland With Drew Carey, Ep. 4
by Nick GillespieAfter World War II, Cleveland was booming, thanks to its leadership role in heavy industry and a business-friendly climate. Today, the city’s high taxes and onerous regulatory demands make it nearly impossible for new businesses to set up shop while choking the life out of existing companies. While relatively laissez-faire cities such as Houston are growing even during the current recession, Cleveland remains stuck in a rut. How can city officials make the city a more welcoming place for entrepreneurs to thrive?
Reason Saves Cleveland with Drew Carey is written and produced by Paul Feine; camera and editing by Roger Richards and Alex Manning; narrated by Nick Gillespie; music by the Cleveland band Cats on Holiday.
This is the fourth of six episodes that will air March 15-19, 2010. Go here for a full episode guide and links to other segments.

Will be back …
I never get blocked or censored.
I like Drew Carey and I like Cleveland.
I wonder why that politician was interested in knowing names of people who thought the business climate was bad? Hmm… Maybe he'd plan a "friend" chat among "friends" with them?

I sure hope whoever perpetrated this web attack does lots of time in jail!!!!
This is beyond criminal…
Aaaaaaand Texas kicks butt. Again.
This is why we need limited federal government power as outlined in the constitution. Cleveland taxes its people to death, they leave and go to a place that actually supports business. The end result is those who wish to work and be prosperous can move to a better environment and those who do not can sink with the ship. It not only works on a tax level but any other law/policy. Don't like the new law? Leave. If enough people leave, low-watt politicians will get the point (or maybe not).
With a powerful federal government that taxes and regulates like Cleveland and Ohio (I'm sure there are more city/states to add to that), there's no where to run and ultimately the country will be run into shambles.
How freakin' stupid are these tax and spenders?
Have we reached a tipping point where more than half our citizens and their elected representatives are closer to the movie "Idiocracy" than they are to understanding basic Econ 101?
What do we have to do to knock basic economics into their thick skulls?
Some years ago, ABC News aired a program about the US, India, and Hong Kong (pre-Chicom takeover, that is) and compared how easy it was to start a new business. In Hong Kong it took a day. In the US, it took about a week. In India, it could take as much as two years. Hong Kong, with no natural resources but its people and their energy had become an economic powerhouse with its own membership in APEC, alongside the US, Australia, and other Pacific economic powerhouses.
It is as clear as day.
VOTE in November! Support rational candidates and THROW OUT the tax and spenders!!
Guess who the mayor of Cleveland was when everything started falling apart. Times up. Dennis Kucinich.
Until these cities being strangled by progressivism understand that growth and prosperity only comes with free market principles they will continue to die on the vine. Progressivism is socialism dressed up in the guise of progress….a total misnomer!

Yeah, just another flyover city. I was born and raised in Cleveland, moved to take a job, and chose to move back. What's your problem with Cleveland?
True, and a conservative George Voinovich helped foster its renaissance. Good old George should have remained at the local level; he became more liberal each step up the political food chain.
isn't that the town that dennis ku-cent-age bankrupted ????

What do you think Missy?
I know you couldn't post.
I couldn't either, and a lot of other folks couldn't.
This was more than a mere glitch.
Apparently, the folks here at Big Government, and over at Big Journalism aren't even aware of it, or haven't acknowledged it, as of yet.
Whoever did it, I hope they get hung.
Thats because you haven't said anything relevant.
Give George Forbes some credit too.
It's another American city run by the left. Just like my former home town of Pittsburgh. When will people learn that you can't have industry in a city run by Democrats. They are industries biggest enemy. If you want a good job in anything other than a hospital or as a city employee you have to move to a conservative area. I still love Pittsburgh, but for jobs anywhere is better.

What's up with all the wordpress sporge getting through but not posts?
Um…….Huh? It's Cleveland!?!? They can't even get their Football team to work right, why should anything else? The city cares more about their collection of Halls of Fame than they do industry.
Once again, the evidence that taxing and regulating business does nothing but cause businesses (and jobs) to move elsewhere!

I listened to much of Kucinich's speech yesterday and I heard not a word about how he thinks we're going to pay for this massive handout.
Not a single word about the economic engine that, until recently, made us the envy of the world. I suppose he thinks it is irrelevant and that money comes simply from the Treasury's mint.
What a putz!

Hmmmmm that sounds like Moon Landrieu starting the run on getting businesses out of New Orleans. They all ended up in Houston. With 1/3 of the nation's oil & gas going through Louisiana, oil companies fled New Orleans to Houston by the droves beginning in the 1970's.
You're exactly right, everyone running on our ballets is democrat! Although we will vote Sherrod Brown, and I hope and pray Kucinich too, little munchkin traitor that he is. I obviously live in Ohio………..but sure looking to move to Texas…………….anyone at all have work for a "very" large hospital quality assurance and training for patient finance………………??? Seriously……………
that would be ballots……..
I heard that as well, he can't tell us how it will be paid, because it cannot be paid and save money, I just cannot believe the "ignorant" people out there that believe any of this BS

We just moved two weeks ago from the sad state of Ohio to the lovely red state of Utah. More and more Ohio natives are fleeing right along with us- Ohio does tax you to death at the state and local level, and we couldn't afford to live there any more. In addition, they made it nearly impossible for the IT start up my hubby worked at to get off the ground. We left and now he works for a company involved in manufacturing that has continued to make prodigious profits right on through the recession. The pols in Ohio are so corrupt, they will never get a clue.
Dude check out this oppertunity !
