Reason.tv: Nanny of the Month for February 2010!
by Nick GillespieLast month’s nannies pulled a modern-day Footloose by banning singing, dancing and rapping at new bars and restaurants—in Snoop Dog’s home, no less!
But what about this month?
Check out who’s pulling the plug on electric bingo machines (sorry charity fundraisers) and who won’t let pet stores sell dogs and cats (seriously?).
But the Nanny of the Month goes to the heartland pol who’s waging a very real war on fake pot (A.K.A. spice, K2, genie, black mamba, bliss, dragon, Bombay Blue …)
Ladies and gentlemen, we present Reason.tv’s Nanny of the Month for February 2010: Kansas State Rep. Robert Olson!
“Nanny of the Month” is written and produced by Ted Balaker. Associate Producers are Alex Manning and Paul Detrick. Animation by Meredith Bragg.

It seems legislatures just need to find something no matter what!
The Conservative Edge
If that clown is a representative example of the IQ of all politicians, we are doomed.
Wow. Apparently there aren't any serious issues facing Kansas right now – not that I approve of anyone trying to get high, even on an apparently synthetic (astroturf?!?!) form of weed. Foreclosures not going on? Low unemployment? Bueller?
Hey I have one for you from here in SC.
SC Lawmakers Consider Ban on Alcohol Sales for Christmas, Thanksgiving
Here is the full text of the bill, currently filed as H. 4451.
TO AMEND SECTION 61-6-4160, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE UNLAWFUL SALE OF ALCOHOLIC LIQUORS ON SUNDAYS AND ELECTION DAYS, SO AS TO INCLUDE CHRISTMAS DAY AND THANKSGIVING DAY IN THE PURVIEW OF THE STATUTE
What a relief to have such competent and effective legislators to keep us citizens from doing irreparable harm to ourselves, each other and the environment! Thank you Nanny of the month! I feel, uh…well…yikes…maybe you better handle that too. Please tell me how to feel. I can't handle that for myself either.
We need to ban INCOMPETENT politicians! Well… I guess we wouldn't have many left tho…
ok… We need to practice impeachment and the recall process more frequently!
Who has the idiot's email? We need to OVERLOAD him with common sense! Maybe a little will stick!
Nanny Pelosi, Ms. Universal Healthcare Global Warming Queen
Now theres a dude who frankly doesn't give a damn about doing nothing of importance. the country is overun with communists er excuse me Progressives and he is hiding his head in the sand. The second biggest bag of wind since dorothy.
Cowboy check out his voting record it's not bad
I think it's the Libertarian coming out in us
Sometimes I wonder were the hell do they raise these people? Robert Olson is another idiot we can put on the short bus. How is it possible to go through life and not acquire any common sense? I'm not sure how they do it but Washington has got it down to an art form.
Look at his voting record before you open your toenail clipper
Real pot fake pot don't Cop's have enough to do
Legalize it?
Texas' Legislature meets for six months every other year (odd years, appropriately).
That little feature LIMITS the damage they can do, we're a big state with many issues and piddling crap like this can DIE early legslative deaths and real 'bidness' can be attended to.
Texas operates in the black, without state income taxes. Hmmmm, correlation?
As a native son of SC, I was always amused by the use of mini bottles for poured cocktails because the rationale was to limit the amount of liquor per drink. In the beginning the mini's were limited to 1.5 ounces, but when the liquor industry went metric, it became 1.7 ounces… at the same time the average drink poured from a regular bottle was between 1 and 1.25 ounces. Of course, the law was changed a few years ago when the dust cleared.
Was Dingy Harry crowned prince or king?
"We need to practice impeachment and the recall process more frequently! "

Court Jestor

Looks like a union job to me.
court shoe shiner
People get what they vote for…
Every new law written and passed is another freedom lost !!!
I sum it up like this. I f you hire a ditch digger to dig ditches, what do you think he might do? Will he look for efficient means of reducing the number of ditches needed? No. He's being paid to dig ditches, and as long as he keeps digging ditches he has job security.
Now what do you suppose a legislator would do with his time?
Its not frequent enough. That's the point of impeachment and recall… You don't have to wait 4/6 yrs…
I hope some of them read our comments because I've got a message for them – leave us alone or we'll make your jobs part-time.
I just heard about a little shop in Ventura County, California that's recently banned from giving donuts and coffee to customers due to lack of proper permits, sinks, etc. So sad. Those are the nice little things that make living just a little more enjoyable. I think I even remember banks serving coffee and cookies when I was little.
What'll they ban next? Surfing, high heels, bathtubs, popcorn at movies because we might choke on a kernel while laughing?
My husband and I were reminiscing about all the great parks and amusement places we used to go to as kids, and realized that lots of the play equipment kids have today is so safe it's downright boring. So we were thinking we could have a park, where, sadly, you'd have to sign a liability form to enter. But unlike today's playgrounds, it'd be a blast. There'd be trampolines, see-saws, really steep and windy slides and those metal merry-go-rounds we used to run along, jump on and spin until just about ready to puke.
Now that's living!
Whooaa! You had me on the pet stores who can't sell cats and dogs. I shut my eyes after that.

"In Bass Coast shire, families were shocked to learn they needed a $100 permit for children to camp in their own back yards."
Local Councils here in Oz, are way ahead of you guys, sigh…………………………

Be careful with that IQ thing. All IQ's do is predict how well that you will learn progressive thought in our Government public school system. It does nothing else!

Clearly, the lawmakers have too much time on their hands and idle minds. Congress in Washington should be in session no more than 6 months each year. Governments at all levels need to become part time jobs.
fantastic post wish i could find more blogs like this,
I read an article, years and years ago, that Kansas is one of the top pot growing states in the US.

So he may actually be tryin to help his voters by banning a competing product.
Many farmers donate to his campaign?
Taaadaaam!…
