ObamaCare and Mission Creep: Why Health Care Reform Will End Up Covering Much More Than You Think.
by Nick GillespieGovernment programs almost always end up costing much more than they were supposed to. They also usually end up doing more than they were supposed to. Would ObamaCare be any different?
Some say ObamaCare would lead to death panels, even euthanasia classes. But you don’t have to side with those who warn of euthanasia classes to recognize that government programs often end up doing all kinds of things that weren’t in politicians’ original plans.
Call it mission creep. Politicians pass a program, and then the scope of the program grows and changes.
It’s happened with everything from state-level health insurance plans to the Troubled Asset Relief Program. TARP’s original mission was spelled out in its name—the government would purchase troubled assets from financial institutions. However, just over a year later TARP’s mission has exploded, and billions in TARP funds have gone to bail out General Motors, Chrysler, and struggling homeowners. TARP money may even fund another stimulus.

Here's something over the top. Pro-ObamaCare chicks and dudes are supposed to withhold sex from opponents.

First, this is a glimpse of just how far into our lives the uber left really wants to go.
Second, have you seen the "so ugly they'd spook a heard of goats" types that cluster around that end of the political spectrum? Who'd want to sleep with them? (See Dave Barry for an explanation of this biological phenomenon.)
Third, this is just one more example of how impractical the hard left is. Is there a man out there who hasn't agreed to just about anything if there was a chance of getting some?
"herd" not "heard."
Well camel's nose is now in the tent
entitlement programs don't go away. they don't shrink. they are the sacred cow of the Left. if this bill makes it thru to law, the same path will be taken.
look into the crystal ball of the future and honestly examine the UK's health care, Canada's system and level of care. the US has been relied upon for a number of years for new drug R&D, as well as the development of cancer treatment and a multitude of other types of care. Where will the World go when this new system of ours cannot support itself and research diminishes due to it being deemed 'unnecessary'?
Cyclonaut, I am in total agreement with you. The world comes to the United States to get healthcare, if our system is so flawed why do they come here? It's because our drug companies are always advancing medicines and treatments, Finding new ways to treat illnesses. Once this bill is in place the world will have to stand in line just like everyone else in this country now that we are spreading the wealth or shall I say medical treatments around.
With the nose under the tent we need to ram a 2×4 up their tush, 2010.
Consider the possibility that squelching advances in medical treatment is the GOAL here. Aren't they also pushing man-made global warming, which is supposedly now a new reason for "de-population"? What better way to segway into de-population than to abruptly dismantle the system that keeps allowing us to live longer and longer?
Kills many birds with one stone;
- gets rid of the old codgers more quickly who remember history and how a country that works USED to look, cutting down on political dissention;
- gets rid of more CO2 exhalers, thereby contributing to "saving the planet"
- gets rid of more retirees, so they won't continue to require SS checks from a program that is going broke. Since our replacement birth rate is too low as to make supporting the SS system difficult, the answer is to get rid of the excess old people; after all, we can't outlaw abortion and have more young people being born.
Shall I go on?

A true conservative should ask himself: Why aren't there death panels/ euthanasia classes now? Is it a failure of capitalism?
You can bet there is structure in this bill that will haunt our country till its end. Which is really the purpose of all that has come down the legislative road of late. We are now joining our socialist brothers across the seas and are preparing ourselves for a one world Government. I feel like our Country was mortally wounded last night with the vote for cloture. We will continue to live as a country in less than half of what we were two years ago and continue to decline. I personally don't see any way out of this, we have never in our history as a nation taken any bureaucracy and dismantled it….I am skeptical it will happen in 2010 or 2012.
Momma, you hit on the head! You are educated on the Leftist agenda.
How about for Liberals only! If you find it so appealing…
I've always suspected: "They're trying to kill us off!"
It hasn't been done before, Lorben. But our survival as a free people has never been at so much risk. Other than the complete unconstitutionality of forcing someone to buy something just because they exist, this dog will kneecap our economy nearly immediately. Investors won't invest in such hostile waters. Hanging this on Dem's necks and promising repeal and begging them to elect the folks to help do it will be the 2010 election framework. Caveat: expect to see purple shirts at the polls. Democracy is what 0 says it is.
I share your sadness. Newton's laws apply: equal and opposite reaction. Keep your hope, look forward, we may after all, have our day. Just think of the target-rich environment if we ever do.
Be sure to pass on the Soylent Green…….
Actually who knows what's in the bill, apparently not even the Senators that voted on it, big surprise there.
Death panels describe very well the IDEA of choosing who gets, and who does not get care, when, for how long etc. and that is exactly what the "End of life" counseling and rationing that will happen is is all about.
They hand out stimulus money by political ideology, why not health care? Don't be naive the left has no moral compass and no conscience.
They think we are nothing more than livestock to use as they wish, killing a few or a million of us for the sake of the collective is right up these peoples ideological alley.
I hope this isn't too far off topic! We (Seniors, the Baby Boomers, or whatever euphamism you'd like to use) are still the largest group in the U.S. We have influenced every part of the world economy and society as we've moved through our lives. We need to take action to save the U.S. for future generations, before this craziness goes so far that it can no longer be undone. It is no longer sufficient to threaten to vote these bums out in 2010. There isn't time to ask the Supreme Court to decide that the Liberal's actions are unconstitutional.. no time for further hand-wringing. We need to promise not to forget in the next 10 months and to vote them all out. We then need to put our collective numbers behind removing every one we can take out in the 2012 elections. The liberals are counting on us, the opposition, to lose our resolve, to embrace a third party that will split the vote and render our votes useless and are certain that the young are not paying attention to what is going to happen to them in a few short years. We need to increase (continued in next post)
our activism and to force the GOP to adopt the constantly more clearly defined Tea party agenda (which will only take them back to their conservative roots), and push forward with a unified forceful vocal movement. It is time for us to tackle this problem, just like all the ones we've tackled in the past….wars, recessions, growing successful industries, and yes, participation in the American Dream. We have always stepped up. We must step up now. There is a very great strengh in the numbers of Americans who know this liberal hijacking of our country is just plain wrong, corrupt and not in anyone's best interest. And, if you're not a senior, but understand what must be done, then lend a hand…..we have the numbers, let's use them. By the way, check out http://www.goooh.com (Get Out Of Our House). It's now time for us to work hard, plan big, and work smart.
Another caveat is the Census with the redistricting. That is their possible checkmate…hope I am wrong.
It's all those 1000 of blanks that need filling in by the faceless that is the real problem.
This is why Obamacare, like Medicare, Perscription Drugs, and every other government program cost 5, 10, 15 or more times than projected. Poor original projections combined with mission creep will end up bankrupting the tax payers.
"Third, this is just one more example of how impractical the hard left is. Is there a man out there who hasn't agreed to just about anything if there was a chance of getting some? "
Haha!
Liberal men are too enlightened for sex.
If they don't have sex, they don't have to personally encounter that pesky abortion question. Sounds like a win for conservatives all around.
Were you not around ( or a child ) in the '60s and '70s when the same clowns tried to use the LYSASTRA ( no sex until there's no war, from the play by Aristophanes ) method ?
Good grief…..doesn't ANYONE know anything anymore?
I'm a senior citizen and presently have good health insurance. I have tried to follow what is going on with this Bill but can't quite keep up. I do know that one proposal awhile back stated that I would be taxed heavily because my present insurance is so good. I also know there are other seniors in the same boat and they too will be taxed. So it seems Obama and his toadies are going to do their damndest to make life hard on seniors. I cannot see how anyone in good faith or conscience could do this to the citizens of America. These are truly sad times.
I agree, ugly and hard core left seem to correlate in the females. Perhaps you should apply for a grant for a study to determine which is causal.
It isn't any sillier than a lot of things they give money out for these days, and the results would be interesting.
I was around in the 60's and 70's. I just didn't date idiots, at least for a second date. Well…maybe one or two if they were obliging.
I never dated any of the IDIOTS, I was married for for most of those decades ( still am, to the same person, who is a conservative and who was never an IDIOT ), but it was well publicized ( the media LOVED the story, but I had heard about it before they got wind of it ) and well known that the IDIOT anti-war females were using the LYSISTRATA tactic.
But today, I doubt that any of the IDIOTS have even ever heard of LYSISTRATA, let alone its author……….Aristophanes.
I find it strange that tanning salons were singled out and hammered by Obamacare. It appears that only the people of no color got stiffed. Descrimination perhaps?
We need to get these socialists out of WASHINGTON NOW! We cannot wait until 2010…there will be no USA to fight for!
I'd say one hell of a lot more than the nose….
Do you really believe that this Marxist-takeover will be the first in history to allow Freedom? It's all about the "New World Order" under Lucifer! "Another will come in his own name, and he you will believe"! Get over it because it is time for "Jacob's trouble" that was elected by the largest % of female voters in our history!
