Reason TV’s Nanny of the Month: November 2009
by Nick GillespieSmoking, fast food, giant inflatable blue gorillas-no matter what it is, chances are some nanny wants to ban it. And this past month was no exception.
Reason.tv’s October 2009 Nanny of The Month Award went to New York State Sen. Jeff Klein for his efforts to rid the Empire State of fish pedicures.
Who is the Nanny of the Month for November 2009?
The runners up include the California Energy Commission for banning big-screen TVs unless they conform to stringent new energy standards and the Food and Drug Administration, which is waging war against caffeinated booze drinks.
But only one can be Nanny of the Month, and this time it’s …

Christians are such evil, evil people.
The longer I lived, the more convinced I become that Stupid People Shouldn't breed………….
Why is it that only the CLUELESS get elected to public office? I live in the Phoenix area and I am embarassed by this jerk.
All those who support abortion should be required to practice it.

Those Political Idiots are always making Rules for US.
WE have a few that are universal:These are the Cowboy Rules in effect for: Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Idaho and the rest of the Wild West.
1. Pull your pants up. You look like an idiot.
2. Turn your cap right, your head ain't crooked.
3. Let's get this straight: it's called a "gravel road." I drive a pickup truck because I want to. No matter how slow you drive, you're gonna get dust on your Lexus. Drive it or get out of the way.
4. They are cattle. That's why they smell like cattle. They smell like money to us. Get over it. Don't like it? I-10 & I-40 go east and west, I-17 & I-15 go north and south. Pick one and go.
5. So you have an $80,000 car. We're impressed. We have $350,000 Combines that are driven only 3 weeks a year.
6. Every person in the Wild West waves. It's called being friendly. Try to understand the concept.
7. If that cell phone rings while a bunch of geese/pheasants/ducks/doves are comin' in during a hunt, we WILL shoot it outta your hand. You better hope you don't have it up to your ear at the time.
8. Yeah. We eat trout, salmon, deer and elk. You really want sushi and caviar? It's available at the corner bait shop.
9. The 'Opener' refers to the first day of deer season. It's a religious holiday held the closest Saturday to the first of November.
10. We open doors for women. That's applies to all women, regardless of age.
11. No, there's no '"vegetarian special" on the menu. Order steak, or you can order the Chef's Salad and pick off the 2 pounds of ham and turkey.
12. When we fill out a table, there are three main dishes: meats, vegetables, and breads. We use three spices: salt, pepper, and ketchup! Oh, yeah … We don't care what you folks in the North East call that stuff you eat … IT AIN'T REAL CHILI!!
13. You bring "Coke" into my house, it better be brown, wet and served over ice. You bring "Mary Jane" into my house, she better be cute, know how to shoot, drive a truck, and have long hair.
14. College and High School Football is as important here as the Giants, the Yankees, the Mets, the Lakers and the Knicks, and a dang site more fun to watch.
15. Yeah, we have golf courses. But don't hit the water hazards – it spooks the fish.
16. Turn down that blasted car stereo! That thumpity-thump ain't music, anyway. We don't want to hear it anymore than we want to see your boxers! Refer back to #1!
Fish pedicures? I didn't even know they had toenails…….
Truth is stranger than fiction. When you cross the slippery road of excessive rules and regulations this is what you get, a never ending supply of rules and regulations by holier than thou types.
Because they relate better to the clueless liberal voters.
Now add this article to the list of left wing loons trying to run the world:
http://sweetness-light.com/archive/ipcc-head-tax-...
Geeze, where's PETA when you need them?
If the fish want pedicures, and they're not demanding I pay for it, let them do what ever they want.
May I add another
17. Be there for others in time of need.
I'm moving to your neck of the woods!
Start giving me a thumbs down:
If you are going to help the homeless you need to have a full program not a food program of free food daily. This is not just a Thanksgiving program at the church it is a daily program. This type of program only encourages homelessness and does not address and help the issue. If you want to help the homeless you give them a hand up. Not a hand out!
well one thing is for sure, "you can't fix stupid".
it was the people living around the church, they said there was trash everywhere afterward, but come to find out the trash was from the people living in the area not the homeless. You see the homeless cleaned up the church grounds and the neighborhood, that was documented by videos and the police. So much for being a good neighbor and caring about other. By the way a lot of those complaining are Dem's.
Imagine that!
Compassionate Democrats, complaining about the homeless. They probably didn't want "those people" in "their neighborhood".
While you are at it, crank up the heat and open the doors and windows………..
I have a candidate for next month. A liberal idiot on my county council wants to require crisis pregnancy centers to post signs warning people that they don't counsel women to get an abortion.
yea and we know what that is like !!!!
http://underthehill.wordpress.com/2009/01/24/obam...
Don't forget the ice cold "Joose".
How dare a church feed the poor! They make it sound like Jesus did that or something… oh, wait…
Yea… we need to somehow figure how to get them free food stamps, healtcare, unenployment checks..
Not somehting like feeding them and preaching the gospel.. anyone have any ideas?
Just got my new SCSI card in … then I saw the California Prop 65 notice on the back of the box ….
I guess, like cigarettes, they must have been sued…

I live in North Phoenix, but I have been past this church many times – it's in a very nice, clean middle-class area. I agree the homeless need a hand up, but churches need to consider the unintentional consequences of feeding the homeless at churches. This is not an area where homeless people would normally stay. By feeding homeless people at this location, the church is attracting homeless people to this neighborhood. In my opinion, as a Christian, this church has an obligation to the residents of this neighborhood – the churches neighbors. Undoubtedly, crime, etc rises when the homeless move in. I realize it would be much more difficult, as well as more work, to find a location to feed these people where they actually are, but the church would reach more homeless people. I know it's easy for me to criticize the way the church is running this, but I know I wouldn't want homeless people moving into my neighborhood to be closer to a church giving out free food. I wonder how many people would really want this in their own neighborhood.
Christians aren't the ones screaming "Jihad" or "Alu Ahkbar" before opening fire on innocent people or blowing themselves up.
The more I read about liberal elitists like this bozo, the more this looks like one large attempt at a two class society. They haven't a problem with flying, as long as they are the only ones that get to fly.
"Imagine how nice an airport might be if we could just get rid of all the common trash that think they have the same right to fly as the true elite of the human race!"
The true insanity of this is the US taxpayers probably pay a good part of that "Sphincter's" salary.
Sanmon seems to mean training, tutoring, etc.
Our church has lots of outreach to the prisons, neighborhoods, elderly, etc
Since I already got a thumbs down, I assume for being uncaring, I'm sharing one of the ways my family helps others. We have a small business. We have one employee who came to work for us straight out of jail and has been with us for 10 years an excellent employees. We have given 5 others straight out of jail jobs, although they are no longer employed with us. We have helped them out with housing, transportation, and cash while they get on their feet. As I understand it, WE are the church, it isn't the church building. I'm not bragging about what we've done because I don't deserve or need it. I'm just stating that disagreeing with bringing homeless people into a neighborhood because I believe it is ineffective and counter productive doesn't make me non-Christian, uncaring, unwilling to help others, etc.
Did Sanmon say that? I don't think he did
And cook a giant steak on the grill with Coal!
Yeah, because we all know how much Jesus cared about home re-sale values.
my laptop said it does not enjoy a coke bath, StoryKeeper. i, however, am still giggling. so appropriate.
poster children for retroactive birth control… *dreamy sigh*
Hey, Luisced – what are you doing to help besides running off your mouth? I'm sure YOU don't care about home re-sale values, do you? Or do you rent? Have any little children? If so, you might be concerned about some of the drug addicts, alcholics, criminals hanging around your house.
Wow, personal attack! That proves your point, you're right! I have kids, we own our house, are heavily involved at church, including summer trips to help folks with their homes, tithing, and helping the homeless by starting a new program with other area churches.
BTW, I came up with a few attacks on you, but decided that is benneath having a disagreament in this forum. Sorry you cannot make your point otherwise.
skat,
You not only get it you live it. My hat is off to you. Nothing more important than teaching a man to fish when they want to learn how. Feed a man a fish he is only hungry in a few hours and left wanting.
I think he was being sarcastic. I think.
Luisced, by the way since this was your comment:
"Yeah, because we all know how much Jesus cared about home re-sale values."
You are holding Jesus up as our ultimate example – which He is-
I disagree that using sarcasm to attack someone's Christian values as not measuring up to Christ's or yours isn't a personal attack. Since we are now being measured according to Christ's perfection, something none of us will ever achieve, I doubt Christ would consider it non-personal either.
No matter is too small for the nanny state to involve itself.
This is as good a my state, Florida, spending $3 MILLION on a tunnel under the road so that turtles don't get hit by cars!!!! I didn't know they could read signs!!!
WHO the h e l l is that idiot???!!!
I may have missed it along the way, but I never saw NOR heard a reference in the video or the article about "homeless" people.
The audio said "hungry" and our church members and members of a church down the road from our church provide packaged food to "hungry" people every month. We don't ask if they are homeless, but since our area is full of rural folks, it's a fairly safe bet, that they have a home of some sort. If we were able to determine they might be homeless, we'd feed them anyway.
I think I will turn every light in my house on and go watch some football on my big screen TV!!
Looks like Los Lunas, NM to me…
Add:
Semi's bring food to the store, and other things you like. He just drove eleven hours through several states to get all that there. He's got to park that rig somewhere to get some sleep to do it all again tomorrow. Get off his backside, or shop for everything two states over.
Ya know if Christians would just start cutting off people's heads then this guy would think twice about doing this …
just say'in …..
He isn't in the least bit clueless. He knew, and still knows, precisely what he is doing. He never outgrew the power trip he had as an elementary school hall monitor.
People like him are why, sooner or later, the 2nd Amendment will come into play.
18. Be neighborly.
19. That man with the beard, dressed in old levis, with the old pickup, may be the one to pull your Lexus out of the snowbank come winter. Be nice, and do not patronize that man.
Nor do I.
The Dems hand out welfare checks backed with funds confiscated from everyone. The Repubs (or in my case, independent but conservative on most topics) cook up the food collected from VOLUNTARY donations, and actually stand on the serving lines, meeting the folks in need.
People always want to blame the Joose for everything!
/sorry. I just had to…
Skat: I used to sell electrical goods to a man who owned a veneer mill and a factory that made paint rollers. It was in a small down on the southern Oregon coast. He took in a lot of ex-cons, half-way house folks, and passers-through. He was highly successful with getting these folks on a good path to an honest and clean life.
Although I am not in the least bit religious and never was a Christian, I had nothing but the very highest of respect for this man, and although I have not seen him in close to 20 years, I still think of him doing this good work.
I wonder if they'd ignore their rules if The One needed a photo op to demonstrate his deep concern for the down and out? Does this church pay it's volunteers prevailing wages? No? Uh, never mind.
Grizzly: Thanks for the encouragement. That man sounds like a great witness.

I understand your concern, but taking ownership of what someone does on their private property is their business, regardless of whether you consider it "your neighborhood". Laws are in place to ensure freedoms and some of the most significant of those freedoms hisorically are religious and property. If you want to trample on those two freedoms to prevent a church from giving free food to starving homeless people, you are certainly entitled to your vote, but in this case, I don't think you have a vote, unless it is to amend the constitution to deligate "community/ soviet" rule over private property and religious practice.
Going to check back, the exposure of ignorance is nice to see!!! If they would've joined the Union or the Democratic party (Progressive branch only) it would've been lawful, they could have handed all of the hungry, commodities, just like the good old days!!!!!!!!! I still remember that Cheese and how much it meant to us!!!!
Yeah, I think you are right ( at least I hope so). Sorry Jason, pretty touchy subject there.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE FEEDING PEOPLE????????????? SHOULD YOU HAVE TO PAY THE GOVERNMENT BEFORE YOU CAN FEED THE PEOPLE?????? HAS THIS COUNTRY BECOME INSANE!!!!!!! The answer to the last question is YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry forgot the question mark on the last question, got too excited!!!
Good for you and your church. Sorry about the response.
I never said anything regarding re-sale values – that was your assumption. in my opinion, you are not serving the homeless in the most effective manner by bringing them to this church instead of going to where more of them are. Maybe the people in the neighborhood also need outreach. I'm sure they may be concerned about property value, so what? Are the rest of us completely unconcerned with our financial matters? They would be absolute fools not to be concerned about increased crime resulting from these people sleeping in the neighborhood.
I doubt that any of us live up to Jesus standards, do we? I know I don't – as I've already demonstrated.
Thanks, Sanmon – you're very kind!
It is because of people like you that have shown me the hugh difference between a hand up vs a hand out. Most people will not make the effort to give a person a hand up. Most people do not understand the harm they do with hand outs.
Lol, don't you mean 'politicians'?
This is not to mention something I see on the shelves in some supermarket canned-good sections: fish balls.
Folks, listen up – This is what happens when brother and sister procreate. Take heed. You end up birthing idiots.
