Joe Lieberman Got His Way – So What Happens Next?
by The New LedgerIf there’s one thing we’ve learned over the past few years, it’s that we should never doubt the abilities of Joe Lieberman to get what he wants, and the willingness of Harry Reid to cave in the clutch. We’ll discuss where health care goes from here, the latest on the markets, and a disturbing trend in food prices on today’s edition of Coffee and Markets, a daily podcast from The New Ledger on politics, policy and the marketplace with Francis Cianfrocca, brought to you by BigGovernment.com.

Francis adds: Keep your eyes peeled on food prices, because it’s an explosive sleeper issue. For the first eight months of 2008, nobody except finance geeks was aware that we were in a financial crisis. The Lehman collapse took an ongoing situation and planted it into public consciousness.
But during those months before Lehman, commodity prices around the world were on an insane tear. Oil at $147 wasn’t the only thing affected by huge inflation. And it was starting to cause real social upheaval in places like the Philippines (which couldn’t beg borrow or steal enough rice) and West Africa (which couldn’t beg borrow or steal anything).
The acute financial crisis of late 2008 damped out the inflation, because it damped out all economic activity. But I never felt like I really understood the food-price inflation, and I don’t think anyone else did either. If it’s back, it’ll be a major story in 2010.

If you have no public, single payer and medicare buy-out, what is left? Time to abandon this. Congress is just seeking for more power, launder money for their cronies, family and relatives. Progressives should be very afraid. We are heading to dictatorship.
Yesterday I was listening to Dennis Prager and he gave Lieberman the "Profiles In Courage" award a la the JFK book title by the same name. Prager is a very practical and logical man, but I found myself saying to the radio, "Dennis, if he was such a hero, why didn't he vote it down two weeks ago when he had the chance to kill it outright." Lieberman is a great bamboozler.
Previous post are right on the nose! However, there is nothing that we can do about it! Election in 2010? Talk to me after it has occurred? Although I would love to see impeachment instead of death to us all.
Please everyone, regardless of what Lieberman says or what party affiliation he claims he has now, he will ALWAYS be a democrat in the end. I would never ever count on any democrat to do what is best for this country, It always comes down to party first, just like the GOP in some respects it's just not as obvious and any transgressions get immediately reported in the MSM. The bottom line, don't count on his vote to do what is right for America.
Plus another bill to hide more pork. Every bill that passes is just an excuse to hide pet projects for every congress member, both Republicans and Democrats are guilty. We need to have a new bill that states that every bill must include only one issue. No more back room deals. You need a bridge in your state mr Senator, you need a subsidy for it, make it a bill, if it has merit it will pass, if it does not then your state will have to way until you have the money for your project. We the people are tightening our belts, congress needs to do it too.
"Having suffered a crushing electoral defeat, the opposition now appears to be struggling to find a viable way to take on the seemingly invincible president." __ Do you know where that quote came from?__ It was quoted in a Fox News article about Hugo Chavez on March 4, 2009. __ It also quotes Chavez as saying: "if it weren't for the attack, the lies, manipulation and the exaggeration" of the private media networks, the Venezuelan government would have the support of at least 80 percent of the population.__ Hmmmmmmm!
No bill should be able to have more words than the constitution.
Where in the Constitution is this……what, oh yeah, the Constitution is dead!
Why does anyone ever believe Lieberman? After all, his name starts with LIE and ends with MAN. He LIED about Monica blowitsky. He sold out all his values(sure) when ALWHORE named him his veep candidate. LIE ber Man is what he is-a PHONY. Like most leftists, he runs as a "moderate" but actually votes no different than Charlie RangHO or Dickhead Durbin. Too bad the Demonuts ran someone even worse last year. The old line goes they cant have a manger scene in DC because they CANT FIND 3 WISE MEN. One thing they could do-they had no problems finding a lot of HORSES ASSES to fill the stables. Obviously including Joe LIE ber Man.
Does anybody else find it weird that the "national" government has confused the communist manifesto with the U S Constitution?
Please! The public option was alway a goal in this bill. But the ultimate objective has always been the the addition of a new layer of government to run 18% of the economy. The true goal has always been to grow government and continue with the steady erosion of American Lliberty. HHS will explode with this mandate to over regulate the insurance industry. This will insure the patient doctor relationship will be forever changed…
As a true Independent who despises the extreme wings of each party and one who at one time respected Lieberman: He now is a spoiled brat and a shell of his former self, following in the path of John McCain, who sold his soul to the Devil and lost who he truly was in order to gain the support of those he formerly disdained (and rightfully so). I hope the voters of Conn. finally put Joe out to pasture where he belongs. His hypocrisy is appalling.
The only party Lieberman cares about is is a party of one: himself.
No, I find it weird that some people scream communism and socialism reflexively. YAWN
Many Dems know they will lose in 2010 if they vote for this bill. They are planning to vote for it anyway. They are being promised various golden parachutes. They should know that they will be poison pills for any law firm or lobbyist or corporate board that takes them on. And if there is any improper quid pro quo, then the Dem and his new corporate sponsor should get ready to be prosecuted.
No confusion at all, we are being fundimentaly transformed, or screwed if you prefer…
Lieberman never fails to disappoint.
