Everyone Hates The Latest Jobs Idea, and They Should
by The New LedgerSo before jetting off to accept his Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, President Obama went on a sales run for his jobs package idea — and he came back empty handed. Why do the left and the right both hate this idea for spending TARP funds? We’ll discuss this and more on today’s edition of Coffee and Markets, a daily podcast from The New Ledger on politics, policy and the marketplace with Francis Cianfrocca, brought to you by BigGovernment.com.

He is stuck between a rock and a hard place- for now…
And he knows it. The right knows this is NOT the way to create jobs. Work, maybe. Careers? hardly. And the Left?
Well, it wants it all, and wants it NOW. They figure they have 10 more months to seal the deal. Nothing less than a total welfare state with confiscatory taxation and unlimited benefits shall suffice.
Hey- he wanted the damn job…
For those of you having problems here is a Tweet I received from IntenseDebate this morning:

Democrats are in trouble and they know it. They can not get their agenda through and have totally alienated their base and at the same time, lost the moderates because they pushed their far left agenda so aggressively.
Not sure why folks won't just let the president and his advisers solve the problem.

President Obama has an excellent track record in organizing. And organizations create things. Like jobs. Sure, maybe he starts out by infrastructure building -bridges, roads, union halls, etc – that don't provide sustainable jobs. BUT (and I capitalize 'but' here, because it is important), once those roads and bridges are constructed, they will require ongoing maintenance…and, you guessed it: SUSTAINABLE employment.
I read an article one time that the painting of the Golden Gate Bridge is a never ending process. Once the guys that a paint it get from one side to the other, it's time to go back to the beginning to start painting again.
Now that's the type of sustainable job creation we're talking about!
Go OBAMA!
Hey! Sorta… like Chicago?
The democraps don't seem to realize that the more they meddle and try to control business, the more they screw it up. They need to back off, offer tax incentives, tax breaks, stay away from new taxes, and let the American economy recover itself. The more the government tries to control it, the more the economy resists.TARP money needs to go back into the treasury to payback the debt. The governments ideas of jobs are usually short term projects that do nothing to stimulate private sector job growth. Rebuilding roads and buildings are great for the infrastructure, but when the job is done, the job is gone. Expanding government jobs also do nothing to expand the economy because they depend on tax dollars to pay for them.
Chicago is a great example. You don't hear talk of bankruptcy or increased taxes to pay for mismanaged budgets, a la New York, Detroit, or a myriad of other poorly run municipalities.
I think your idea of using the Chicago model is well grounded.
"The more the government tries to control it, the more the economy resists."
Sometimes economies are like stubborn teenagers. As parents, it would be easy to give in to them and let them have there way. But good parents know that if you give in t them, they will only continue to rebel and fight you. You have to break them.
Think of the Obama adminstration as good parents.
Yeah…..No…what?
"Americans struggle enough already with a historically weak economy, high taxes and the looming burden of having to pay off an enormous federal debt. In Illinois, unemployment is already 10.5%, and Chicago-area residents just endured property tax increases to the tune of 20% in some areas."

"President Obama has an excellent track record in organizing. And organizations create things"
No, *private business* organizations create things like jobs. Organizations of the Obama sort, like ACORN, create NOTHING. Nothing, that is, but corruption, kickbacks, political payoffs, and imaginary "voters."
Obama has never created a job in his life. Except for the six-figure nonjob U Chicago Hospital created for Michelle.
"I read an article one time that the painting of the Golden Gate Bridge is a never ending process. Once the guys that a paint it get from one side to the other, it's time to go back to the beginning to start painting again.

Wotta schmuck! But then, if liberals understood squat about jobs, they woudn't be liberals.
The Government has and will NEVER be my parent. Have you read the Constitution, do you even know what it is?
As we all know the defination if insanity is doing something the is bad, (painfull, damaging, does not work) over and over again. So, is this administration insane? I doubt it. Than what is going on here?
A closer look at the administration reveals through their collective writings, the speeches, and backgrounds reveals them to be very far left leaning. Many of them openly quote some of the many architects of the leftst movement. People like Saul Alinsky, Cloward and Pvien, etc..
These are the some of the people who have created the blueprint for tearing down the hated free market system. What else could explain what is being systematically done to this country?
I hope I’m wrong
What do property taxes have to do with income taxes? If you choose to own property and use up more resources and services, well then you should pay more. What's the issue with that?
And, Illinois unemployment seems to be in line with the national average; so everything seems to be going according to plan?
Not sure what your point is.
Sir, I am almost completely sure that ACORN has thousands of employees AND has seasonal workers who are remunerated to assist in assuring timely and procedural implementation of the electoral process. Those sure sound like ACORN creates some jobs to me!
Did you call me a schmuck?
Really, I am a schmuck because I understand that building a bridge means that bridge will have to be maintained and that means sustainable jobs? I refuse to apologize for understanding the Administration's plan.
You, sir, with your pithy comments and contrarian for the sake of being contrarian tone are a putz. Indeed!
At this moment the one thing that is stalling recovery is the pending health care legislation. Most small business owners fear that they will be forced to provide health care coverage that neither they or their employees can afford. This means not only are have most put a freeze on hiring but many have also been seeking to thin the herd. If the government passes legislation requiring business owners to provide coverage we can all fully expect that many small businesses will begin trying to sell and if that fails they will ultimately wind up folding. The unemployment rate will only worsen.
Meanwhile the president, a trillion dollars later, is now talking about jobs and tax breaks for small business. The very things he was encouraged to tackle with the "stimulus" package. His solution? "Spend our way out of recession." Where does he plan to get this money? Unspent money from the stimulus package, part of which was already designated for infrastructure projects. What does he plan to spend it on? Infrastructure projects! Are you seeing the irony? His plan is to do what they already planned to do, but to take credit for it twice! I suppose next he will expect another Nobel prize for actually doing what he said he would do.
I'm confused.
If the Government HAS been your parent; how will it never be your parent? Or is that some type of transcendental philosophical metaphor?
To answer your question: I'm as familiar with the Constitution as you are.
Tallow is sometimes used in the mixture to create what is commonly known as Whitewash.
Seriously? One of the things that stops me being able to work for a small business is the lack of affordable health care. So instead of working for a local business and paying a ton out of pocket for my own healthcare I work for a mega-corporation that has good benefits. This is true for a lot of people I know who might rather work for a smaller outfit, or go into business for themselves, but need healthcare for their families. How is making healthcare more accessible going to hurt small businesses? And there are no provisions to force businesses to provide care they can't afford, that was the whole point of the public option, although now the conservatives have managed to kill that I guess things aren't nearly as beneficial. Way to hurt small business, conservatives.
I am glad we agree you are confused and thanks for pointing out my grammatical error. We obviously have a different interpretation of the Constitution.
"No, *private business* organizations create things like jobs." Really? How are the privately owned banks doing for you on this score? Creating many jobs lately? Or just tons of cash for a few at the top while the rest of us suffer?
There are plenty of examples of bad behavior by private businesses, just like there are examples of bad behavior by community organizations. Either entity is only and good, and honest, as the people within it.
Someone wanted to have the job. He was groomed for it. Look who paid for his college. Look at who his mentors and friends were and his various apprenticeships all the way to those who nominated and sponsored him in the Illinois senate. He is not where he is by chance.
The better you understand his friends and mentors the better you understand his plans for this country. What I find funny though is how easily culled he is. One day he is saying one thing only to be singing a different tune the next day. It's so obvious he's a puppet it isn't even funny.
It will be interesting to see is what will happen when some of those strings are cut in 2010. Will he flail about or will be simply assume that portion of the authority for himself.
This will not stop them from passing any healthcare bill if they believe it will help them save face. The problem is that there simply isn't enough time to correct everything that is wrong with the bill and even worse is that every attempt to make those changes, such as government funded abortions, will be met with extreme resistance. Basically the Democrats have created a monster, let it loose in the chamber and have now challenged to the Republicans to tame it. Meanwhile all the democrats need to do is buy just enough votes to pass the bill. At this point their biggest concern is how much will the cheapest traitor cost? Perhaps Mary Landreu and Phillip Chao could offer some insight on how much a vote costs.
The millionaire career politician bureaucrats in Washington, including the President and his advisers, are the problem. None of them has the nation or the peoples interests at heart. If they did they would have insisted there a bipartisan effort in creating a health care "reform" bill. Instead the side with the majority creates a bill in secret and then tries to force a vote before even giving their peers on "the other side of the isle" time to review it.
Consider this. Our leaders lecture us about diversity and tolerance yet they literally sit on opposite sides of their respective chambers. The first health care bill that was presented even exempted those same "leaders", supposed "representatives", from the very requirements they intended to impose on the populace. They are hardly setting the kind of example we want to set for our children.
Wouldn't it be great if our children, instead of emulating professional athletes, chose to emulate the heroes who selflessly defend us and real leaders to tirelessly fight FOR all the citizens, rather than just those who voted for them, and for the betterment of our nation.

"building a bridge means that bridge will have to be maintained and that means sustainable jobs?"
You are realy confusing unending transaction costs with economic growth?
Willie.
Because private business ultimately has to produce or go under (barring, of course bailouts like the ones for the big banks and GM). Tell me, what has ACORN ever produced? What has Obama's 3/4 trillion dollar Porkulus produced?
Whereas 'community organizers' never have to produce results. Obama with his buddy Ayres ran through $160 million in funds for education and accomplished…nothing.
Making healthcare more accessible will help small business.
But the Pelosi-Reid monstrosity is not the way to do it. It's like treating a head wound with a tourniquet.
Allow small businesses to form insurance pools to get the lower rates big businesses do. Allow insurers to operate nationwide. Clamp down on the malpractice racket. Oh- and cut small business taxes and red tape.
None of which will cost uncounted trillions. and burden employers and employees, large and small, with Eurosize taxes.
I'm a little afraid, so I'll mention this. This is not the way to create jobs, but it could be a way to get re-elected. Since immigration is mentioned as a key issue, please note the EU is allowing 50 million immigrants from Africa. You could easily swap a vote for for a chance to get into the U.S. and SEIU would probably drive them in by the truck load.
Tallow your comments prove you have not even the slightest concept of the constitution. LOL Did GS send you here to amuse us?
agree with your entire repy. Well done…
Wasn't there a $787 billion "reinvestment" incentive earlier this year? We haven't spent that yet and the dems want to spend leftovers from tarp, on top of another "costly incentive" to do what Obama said we needed the $787B for so urgently last January. When does it end? Also, the jobs the dems are talking about "creating" are temporary (in the case of roads and bridges) and government (teachers, police, firefighters). those are paid for with tax money. I can't believe that our elected officials (at least most of them) are that stupid: so what's up?

A lot of people are talking about obama jobs right now… why is there so much talk on this subject? is this because the jobs are not really real and this is PC or another reason?
