Yes, but the trend towards oligarchy and post-democracy is global. Not just Russia and China. Look at the comeback of the Latin American strongman, increased centralization and reduced transparency/democratic choice in the EU (and the adoption of its "constitution") etc.
The US and Honduras are two places where the populace has managed to put up some resistance.
This is true, and certainly history has shown us it's a natural impulse in times of upheaval. That being said, it's worth noting that some corners of Europe are moving in the opposite direction, albeit slowly.
