There's nothing like a good audit to scare straight many tax cheats. Why should the Fed be any different? I do not believe the Fed should even exist, but since it does, it should get audited thoroughly every year as SOP. Even our church financial records get annual audits. I keeps even honest errors from accumulating.
The WSJ article fails to mention (conveniently?) that the Audit the Fed bill has bi-partisan support: Every single House Republican and dozens of Democrats have signed up for co-sponsorship.
Isn't Ben Domenech the guy that was disgraced a few years ago for plagiarism at National Review and fired from the Washington Post? Why is he now tainting Big Government?

How does Goldman-Sachs ALWAYS profit no matter what the situation is? Why are so many ex-employees working at, or even controlling, the Federal Reserve?

If you hear Bernanke's response (to Congress) the reason there should be no audit is because the consequences will be detrimental to the USA.
Detrimental. He implies that an audit would make treasury auctions more difficult. And the 'difficulties' would certainly cause a spike in interest rates. And a spike in interest rates would have a ripple effect throughout the economy causing harm to our country.
But an audit is just an audit. It's a spotlight. Transparency. An audit doesn't cause a sequence of events to unfold.
So Ben. The audit wouldn't cause a spike in interest rates. WTF has been going on at the New York Fed is what will cause interest rates to spike. How amazing that the MSM got away with painting Geithner as a newcomer and an outsider when he was appointed by this POTUS. Not very funny at all.
Geithner may be the biggest puppet of them all.
Transparency doesn't cause anything Ben. Your twisted logic is a virus. And it seems everyone in and around DC and Wall Street is infected with your virus. Who did you catch it from? At least Greenspan is trying to come clean…sort of. (What a putz he turned out to be.)
