The First-ever Republican State Convention
by Michael ZakIn 1854, the Democrats in control of the 33rd Congress were moving toward passage of their Kansas-Nebraska Act, allowing slavery to expand into the western territories. Championing the bill was Stephen Douglas, the senator who would be the Democratic Party’s 1860 presidential nominee. The Democrat President at the time, Franklin Pierce, said he would sign the bill into law. The Democratic Party had chosen to promote slavery.
Amid the intense reaction, a grassroots movement similar to today’s Tea Parties sprang up to oppose the extension of slavery. At town meetings and demonstrations, anti-slavery activists voiced their opposition to the “Slave-ocrats” and organized the Republican Party. A small gathering in Ripon, Wisconsin, on March 20, is credited with being the first to use the Republican label.
On July 6, 1854, the Republican Party held in Jackson, Michigan its first-ever state convention. So many people attended – over 10,000 – that the meeting was held outdoors, Under the Oaks.
Just four months later, one of the founders of the Michigan Republican Party, anti-slavery activist Kinsley Bingham, was elected our nation’s first Republican governor. And, another of the original Michigan Republicans, Zachariah Chandler, became one of the first Republicans in the U.S. Senate. Senator Chandler, a former mayor of Detroit and leader of the Underground Railroad, went on to serve as Chairman of the Republican National Committee.

So, 156 years ago, the democrats were in favor of slavery. Some things never change. They still approve of it, they just find different names for it.

It is commonly thought that the KKK was to keep the blacks 'down on the farm', but in fact there were plenty of lynchings by the KKK of white opposition Republicans — All to retain the Democrats hold on power. The KKK served as the Democrats terror wing for near a 100 years.
It's important to understand the real story of slavery in America, start your hunt with a simple question — Why would Lincoln form the KKK? And then move from there towards the future. It then all becomes clear.

We are undoubtably heading towards another war over slavery. Only this time, those that are enslaved don't realize it. If the various groups that are under the spell of Obama ever wake up and realize that they are in fact, slaves, the next two hundred years of prosperity will come about.
I guess keeping the border open to illegals for the amnesty vote and the drug mules so the coke and weed get to the inner cites where the minds and lives of people are enslaved works well for the Democrats.

Its no coincidence Democrats handily won the southern states before Republicans made an organized effort to take the territory.

My Bowdish ancestors were at that meeting, since they were lving in Ingham and Jackson Counties. That meeting converted many of them from the abolitionist wing of the Whig Party to Republicans. Five Bowdish men fought in the Civil War and one (Corridon Bowdish) died at the Battle of the Wilderness. Other Bowdish ancestors later supported female suffrage, another Republican ideal. I am proud of that history and reject any notion that the Republican Party is associated with racism, sexism, etc., or has anything to apologize for, like Carol Swain has asserted.
As I said, the democrats still believe in slavery. You don't understand. Whether it be affirmative action, quotas, etc…. the democrats still believe that whites are superior. You'll never change for the better if you don't stop believing what you want to believe and avoid reality.

Not to be a fly in the ointment but the public sentiment against slavery back then was driven mainly by the desire of the north to keep Africans out of their states. They were not against the slave "trade" itself, but rather against having the "slaves" in their states. Slavery was not a race thing. I know that sounds quite strange, but Africans were not "chosen" by whites and Arabs to be slaves, Africans chose other Africans to be slaves and sold them dirt cheap in comparison to other countries, hence creating a market for black slaves.

In 1964 the democrats voted almost as a block against the Civil Rights Act. Al Gore Sr. Filibustered it but failed. So the republicans forced it through congress while democrats opposed it. In 1965 the same thing happened with the Voting Rights Act. Democrats opposed it. Senator Robert Byrd attempted to filibuster it. Democrats all voted against it and fought hard to prevent its passage. But the Republicans drove it through.
With Section 8 housing, subsistance stipends(welfare checks) and after the 1964 Great Society legislation – the destruction of the black family – for money. (single mothers recieved bigger checks that intact families – the live in black father fled – especially in inner cities)
None of this is NEW INFORMATION unless you've be failed by liberal public education and kool-aid drinking Democrat politicians.
The GOP was called the "party of the blacks (not the word used in the late 1800's)" and the FIRST black men elected to federal office were REPUBLICANS.
The tide turned in the 1930's when it became a class war between the next "progressive" after Wilson, FDR – and he made it a CLASS WAR, like I said, not a RACE WAR – which is what Obama has done. Wilson, FDR (extrodinary circumstances allow me to cut FDR some slack – he was a segregationist and crazy lib – tries to pack the SCOTUS for political reasons etc.) and LBJ and Obama – disasters for our country – and ALL lousy Demoncraps.

Kids aren't taught that America is bad, they also aren't taught that America is perfect. That perhaps is where your confusion lies.
Kids aren't taught that minorities should be treated differently, they are taught that minorities should be treated the same. Affirmative Action, for example, is another thing. There were valid reasons to create it, because there was bona fide racism going on that prevented qualified minorities from achieving the American dream. I think those policies are outdated now and should be repealed. Students recognize the double-standard of what they're taught and what the government policy does, so it does make things more murky.
You make a leap to think the Left's agenda is what drives schools to teach what they do. I know its top 5 in the conservative handbook, but I have yet to see any reality to support the conspiracy. An extreme liberal teacher here or there taints the water, but its not an "agenda".
It would be cool if those two things you mention, for examples, were taught in schools, but, also consider, class time is limited, they have to stick to the most important topics and even then time is tight to teach kids all the curriculum. Women voting in some states in the 1700's and blacks in the TX legislature are minor details that won't change the big picture. Interesting but not pertinent.

On the other hand, minorities experienced real racism in the old days. Affirmative action was a good policy to combat this hurdle. I think we've evolved to a point we should repeal it. Our culture needed it for a time, to help bring us into post-racist culture. I would hope we're at a stage we don't need crutches like that anymore. It wasn't about low expectations, it was about giving qualified individuals a shot, at a time they were excluded solely because of their skin pigment.

Actually the Republican Party was the old Democrat Party of Madison and Jefferson. Jefferson started using Democrat while he was in office and the Federalists became the Whigs, which became a tired old party not wanting to make waves or talk about the issues (oh wait, that sounds like the Republicans under Bush Sr, Dole, etc. who stuck us with clinton.) But I digress, Fremont ran as the first newly coined, reuse of the term "Republican". But it wasn't until Lincoln, who had left the Whigs for the aforementioned, and was without a party, began his campaign against slavery, that he decided to take on the Republican moniker and pull the party to victory. But the real message here is: It's not the party, it's the person. One person can start a movement. The party-system breeds contempt and evil intentions.
Thankfully, Beck is shining the light on this disease so that it can be identified and irradicated. Now we can appreciate Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow WIlson for what they truly were…..or, actually, not appreciate them….

Racism is alive and well, it will be at least until the Boomers are all gone. The X'ers might have the last remnants of significance as that generation goes out too.
Most Republicans aren't racists. Look to the south and southeast for any that are. I think even some younger Republicans just use southern racism for political advantage. George Allen. Jake Knotts. But Knotts might really be racist, he's a little older you know.
Fact is, Democrats use race politics more broadly than Republicans.
Decide for yourself which is worse. Real racism vs. using race politics. Democrats use it to capture minority votes, Republicans use it to appeal to people who don't prefer minorities.

I believe Obama is TRYING to start a race war in America and the "kittens" are his army of choice.

So which is it? If bona fide racism is no more, like you say in your first quote, then why would there be a need for the 'glove to switch hands'? If you really feel that affirmative action policies are outdated and should be repealed, tell that to your Democrat Party buds and see what happens. I asked you once before if you were a liar or just stupid. I should not have been so cruel in my assessment. You may well be a liar, but I should not have said the alternative was you being stupid. You may have just bought into a failed philosophy, but the time to start being honest with yourself is growing short.
Conservatism gives everyone an equal opportunity for happiness, but does not guarantee results. Progressivism tries to guarantee outcome, but it destroys the human spirit by making people dependent on the government. I am not, nor have I ever been, racist, but there is definitely racism on the left. It may not be the 'good old boy' type of 50 years ago, but it is there. Look at the statements from Reid, Clinton, and Marhe. The Democrat Party uses class warfare to buy votes. It's as simple as that. A lot of Republicans are guilty as well, but the Dems are much worse. Time to get rid of the career politician.
For 100 years the progressives have been undermining the foundation of capitalism, and when problems develop, they claim capitalism has failed. It has not failed, because it has not been practiced for many years. Most of the world is poor, not because we have stolen from them, but because they lack the freedom we have here. How is denying us our freedom going to help them? People are much more productive and happy when motivated by a carrot, and not a whip.
I'm not big on income taxes of any kind. I would support a consumption tax and do away with any taxes on income.
It would cost me in the short run but the nation and me, will be better served in the long run.
Obama has, perhaps, another 30 days to make a serious course adjustment, in tax policy, or the always "empty suit" will become the a "political hologram" of a an American President.
Libertarians are too whacko for mainstream and bone headed on many topics such as the legalization of weed. The only reason the GOP has failed yet again to grab the reins is the level of progressive infection among the ranks (McLame, Lyndsay Gayram, Snow, and on and on). The incumbents need to be swept from office and barred from being lobbyists. Get the rotton SOB's out and bring in the fresh meat knowing their asses are on the line and saddle them with term limits so that they must perform now!
