While the U.S. economy crumbles and the world teeters toward war, the President busies himself with words and speeches (not to mention photo ops and vacations and parties). Appalling, yes. Surprising, no. To quote Yogi Berra: “This is like deja vu all over again.”
Today’s leaders of the Democratic Party are not at all progressive. In fact, their ideology is regressive – a throwback to an ideology popular in the 1920s and 30s and 40s. Their vision is that people they consider the “ignorant many” should be governed by people who see themselves as the “enlightened few.”
At the core of this socialist outlook on life is what Friedrich Hayek called “the fatal conceit.” That’s a person assuming that, if he were given unlimited power, then everything would be perfect. He projects that government employees would act on his behalf. He sees government employees as a proxy for his own egotistical fantasies.
A faceless bureaucracy is too impersonal, however, for some socialists, who prefer a proxy with a face. These people prefer to focus their aspirations on a charismatic leader, who attracts hordes of followers, all dreaming that the great leader would, in fact, impose their own will on society, if only He were in charge of everything!
Relieved of the burden of having to think for themselves, these fanatics can easily find their political passions unrestrained by reason. This fascist mentality can produce the thuggish brutality of a Benito Mussolini regime.
Nowadays, “fascism” is just an all-purpose insult. Few of those who call people they don’t like “fascists” know what fascism is. Fascism is an economic system. The name comes from an ancient Roman symbol, the “fasces,” a bundle of sticks – referring to how all sectors of society would be tied together by the government.
Back in the day, many intellectuals and other so-called progressives hailed fascism as a “third way” between communism and capitalism. Under fascism, private property does exist, but it is concentrated into big businesses, controlled by the government. Workers are also concentrated, into huge unions, again, controlled by the government.

Young people, students, union members, environmentalists, minorities, scientists, retirees, celebrities, and so on – under fascism, each sector of society is “a stick” – bundled and tied together and controlled by the government. And, at the head of the fascist state is the Leader, who struts as if onstage and mesmerizes crowds with speeches, lots of speeches.
Benito Mussolini is best remembered for his egotistical speechifying, but his background should be just as well known. His father was a socialist who named him after a Mexican revolutionary icon, Benito Juarez. His two middle names honored a pair of Italian socialists. Mussolini rose to prominence as editor of a socialist magazine.
At the head of a black-shirted goon squad, he strutted and preened and wooed and threatened his way to power. But, once in office, Mussolini showed little interest in the actual governance of Italy, leaving most administrative responsibilities to others.
Benito Mussolini was a very lazy guy. He spent most of his time focused on showmanship and self-glorification. In World War II, for example, spies in Rome told an astonishing tale, that during one major military crisis, Italy’s Leader idled away the afternoon chatting with his chauffeur. Basically, his message to government officials was: “Call me if you need me.”

I find that people who don't see that Obama is a fascist simply don't understand the concept of fascism.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Barack Hussein Obama is on the trajectory but his TOTUS keeps letting him down and God willing the Ballot Box in November will keep him down till he's gone.

I am so sick of these elitists believing that THEY and only THEY can save the earth, the poor and down trodden etc..Why can't they understand that everything takes care of itself in time. The planet was never meant to be made up of everything being equal, we were meant to always have positives and negatives and that is something that they just can't understand or don't want to or are lying to themselves about. IMO it's not like they even CARE about the poor or downtrodden anyway, it's just another lie they tell in order to stay in power. If these people REALLY cared about others who aren't as well off as the next person then why don't THEY give THEIR wealth away, why don't THEY go volunteer at an old persons home and change diapers there, why don't THEY help out at soup kitchens, why don't THEY get out and pick up trash on the weekends if THEY are so worried about the earth and care so much. The answer is simple, they DON'T care, they just want to control the "little people", the peons who are stupid and can't take care of themselves THAT is the simplified answer in a nutshell.
We need a leader NOT a rock star wannabe!! His words from the beginning, and after 18 months are nothing more than 'words'…meaningless because they have no connection to the real world! He's finding out the hard way that being 'groomed' for the highest office in the land makes no difference if you have no backbone, and no experience to support him and his insane policies!!

Are you suggesting that Obama is seeking to start a world war to try to have the U.S. take over the rest of the world, like Mussolini did? (e.g., you state "as the world teeters toward war") That is a surprising charge, because usually on this site the writers are complaining about how Obama is too timid with foreign leaders, and try to compare him unfavorably to the more belligerent Bush.

I actually agree with this. Democracy IS the worst form of government, it is nothing more than mob rule, where a majority can violate the rights of the minority. We aren't a democracy and never were supposed to be, the US is a Constitutional Republic which puts hard limits on what the government (and hence a majority of voters) can demand of their fellow citizens.
Where the United States has gone wrong in recent decades is that we've become far more democratic than we ever should have been, to the point where a near majority has voted themselves "stuff" from what is rapidly becoming a minority (taxpayers who pay taxes) while insulating themselves from any consequences (ie: they do not pay any net income tax).
Maybe. But at the end of the day, those people who buy gold receive something that's actually worth something. What have the people who bought "Hope & Change" received? Lies about how ObamaCare is going to reduce the national debt? Lies about how an $800 billion "stimulus" was going to prevent unemployment from topping 8%? Lies about financial "reform" that completely ignores the fiscal black holes of Fannie and Freddie? Lies about how we should model our "green" economy after Spain's, which is now bankrupt?

WHO was it who proclaimed Obama to be such a great charismatic speaker? I see none of that. His speeches are as captivating as a lecture from a professor. My wife remembers a Vanity Fair article where Michelle Obama said that he was the most self centered person that she had ever met…..the article seems to have been scrubbed but I think it was the Vanity Fair Dec 2008 issue, it was the same interview that she said he snored and had bad breath in the morning. Although I went to the VF website archives and that, Dec. 2008.,issues index has no listing for an interview with Michelle, but if you search the snore bad breath statement, it is accredited to the Dec 2008 issue of VF, even though VFs own index has no mention of the interview.

We have our rights for now. How much does the business that you work for make? Do you think he/she is hiring? People that "make" over 250K are more likely than not people that own small businesses. Much of the money that they "make" is poured right back into the business. Is the business going to be able to afford your healthcare after Obama raises it's taxes, cost of energy and regulation red tape….along with their taxes.

Apr. 28–WASHINGTON — The Obama administration rebutted complaints today from Republicans over General Motors' use of a government-funded escrow to pay off $5.8 billion in federal loans last week, saying the move was a good deal for taxpayers.
