Colin Powell’s Endorsement of Barack Obama Will Live… in Infamy
by Michael ZakFor more than a year after Barack Obama became president, there was no word from Colin Powell about a man he described as having “great insight into the challenges we’re facing of a military and political and economic nature.” Today, Powell broke his silence. Did he have the courage to admit his mistake, his blunder, his betrayal?

No. Speaking on Face the Nation, Powell said he did not regret endorsing Obama, though the former Republican appointee could not bring himself to say much of anything positive about him. He claimed, absurdly, that the nation is more financially secure since The One took office and that “slowly but surely we are starting to see the kind of improvements the American people wanted and voted for him for.” Lackadaisical leadership, cronyism and corruption, massive unemployment, soaring deficits, weakness overseas – does General Powell really believe that these are the changes the American people wanted?
Let’s compare Powell’s analytical skills now with his purported sagacity during the campaign. Just weeks before the 2008 presidential election, he went on television to attack John McCain and the Republican Party. He then, in his wisdom, endorsed Barack Obama:
“I watched Mr. Obama during this seven-week period. And he displayed a steadiness, an intellectual curiosity, a depth of knowledge and an approach to looking at problems like this and picking a vice president that, I think, is ready to be president on day one. And also, in not just jumping in and changing every day, but showing intellectual vigor. I think that he has a definitive way of doing business that would serve us well.
Mr. Obama has given us a more inclusive, broader reach into the needs and aspirations of our people. He’s crossing lines–ethnic lines, racial lines, generational lines. He’s thinking about all villages have values, all towns have values, not just small towns have values.
I come to the conclusion that because of his ability to inspire, because of the inclusive nature of his campaign, because he is reaching out all across America, because of who he is and his rhetorical abilities – and we have to take that into account – as well as his substance – he has both style and substance – he has met the standard of being a successful president, being an exceptional president. I think he is a transformational figure. He is a new generation coming into the world — onto the world stage, onto the American stage, and for that reason I’ll be voting for Senator Barack Obama.
And I have watched him over the last two years as he has educated himself, as he has become very familiar with these issues. He speaks authoritatively. He speaks with great insight into the challenges we’re facing of a military and political and economic nature. And he is surrounding himself, I’m confident, with people who’ll be able to give him the expertise that he, at the moment, does not have. And so I have watched an individual who has intellectual vigor and who dives deeply into issues and approaches issues with a very, very steady hand. And so I’m confident that he will be ready to take on these challenges on January 21st.”
Can you honestly say you are still confident, General Powell? If not, the nation deserves an apology from you. General Powell, Douglas MacArthur’s words from 1962 speak to you today: “the very obsession of your public service must be Duty, Honor, Country.”

We all knew that Powell wasn't a Conservative from the very beginning.
When you're obsessed with race (as most liberal are); common sense, sound judgment and integrity go right out the window.
Powell thought he was joining the "winning" side.
Everyone knows the winning side writes the history.
He wanted history to record that he supported the first black president.
He underestimated America's aversion to blindly follow progressives into the abyss of socialism.
Any regrets General Powell???
…and the WINNERS DO write the history.
Mohammed teaches that WAR is deception. Beware the gathering storm.

That we did, but we didn't know that he was a damned racist; now we do.
Powell has always been a poltroon, anyone's whore, but we didn't know, until '08, that he was a racist; now we all do.
Just one affirmative action person supporting another.
Powell has been very quiet on the TERRORIST killing our soldiers at Ft Hood and obama not allowing even members of congress to get the details.
obama's best friend William Ayers tried to murder as many as he could with his bombings at the Pentagon yet Powell supports obama?
William Ayers also tried to blowup over 300 men and women at a service dance but the bomb went off prematurely killing instead the terrorist.
Ayers with his terrorist wife Bernadette Doryn (placed bomb next to window with police officers on other side, killing 1 and wounding dozens) then adopted the terrorists friend son. That son is now in Venezuela aiding Chavez in his takeover of the country.
I know all this so you would expect the news media to know as well and they do. They are traitors to our country!
They would fit in with the Russian media during the communist days.
Face it Powell you voted for the anointed one for one reason only because he was black. I have
friends that fell into the "oh wow the first black President " Well guess what that wore off and now
everyone is turning against him. Too many people drank the kool-aide and got a suguar high.
I think we needed a black President to show people that the US is not a racist country, and those
that still think we are racist even those that live here, shuold get over them selves. It is too bad that this
clown was the first black president because he exploited it. I hope we can have another black president
and hope this country gives him a chance, but vote him in on his values first not the color of his skin.
You love to call people NUT SACK, don't you Missy? Hey, I watched the Beck speech at CPAC and you are right, unbelievable.
I did.
Do you remember how financially secure we were as a nation on January 20, 2009, when Obama took office? Powell is correct that we are more financially secure today than on that date. For example, the Dow was at 8279.63 on that date: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_was_dow_jones_aver...
Powell's choice seems to have so far been vindicated by history. Now, does the conservatives' choice of GW Bush for 8 years stand the test of time? Not so much.
I thought surrender monkeys were French! You learn something new every day. lol!
"Mr. Obama has given us a more inclusive, broader reach into the needs and aspirations of our people. He’s crossing lines–ethnic lines, racial lines, generational lines. He’s thinking about all villages have values, all towns have values, not just small towns have values." I haven't seen any of this, have you? If anything I see the Ones alienating more individuals than what I saw during the sixities. Granted I was a young one….but I remember the polarization that the country was under. Even a ten year old can pick up on that with watching Walter Cronkite every night.
I feel like O has done nothing new and novel, just the same ole corruption and cronyism…not exactly hope and change, but then I knew it would not be. I was sorry to see Colin Powell take a sharp left with O, but I admit I think I was seeing hints of it during the eight years of Bush. He is just another cog in the wheel of being black in America. I look forward to the day that African Americans begin to see the slavery and racism that the left has them under. And that true freedom is in "limited government."
Flinder go back to your commissar and kiss his a$$, like ya do!
Well this little diddy is going to make the stack of stuff… Rush is gonna nuke this one first thing. Powell should have stayed in the closet. I feel for him… /sarcasm
When did you know that?
We all knew about his wife, so we could assume that Powell was also a racist, but he never before was so blatantly so……………….was he?
When you talked about Powell's betrayal which will live in infamy, I thought you were referring to his presentation regarding the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. That has been proven false. The jury is still out on Obama, but so far, he has prevented a second great depression, which was still very possible when he took office.
Colon (*NOT a typo) Powell is a racist horse's ass who stole Norman Swartzkopf's thunder. Norman should have been Sec. of State, not this douche bag. I thought we were finally done hearing from this idiot, but now I see he's crawled back out of the woodwork. I say we sic Rush Limbaugh and Shaun Hannity on him!
Powell could have been the first black presiden but he was afraid of being black and a republican.
Mr. Powell endorsed the man who was never there. He will go down in history as some disillusioned dupe who tried to give integrity and substance to an illusion which has morphed into false hope and false change. I wonder how it feels to be on the wrong side of history?
Reading this article makes me sick in the pit of my stomach. Powell’s
military achievements are one thing, but his politics are lousy.
It was bad enough when he endorsed Obama before the election, but
now after a year of disasters and Obama’s taking the country as far left as
he now dares, how could Powell ever reinforce his steady affirmation of
this President?
Powell must either be blind and deaf or one very stubborn individual.
Perhaps, he is a closet socialist?
As soon as he started acting like a RINO, I pegged him as a liberal. Putting 2 and 2 together was easy from there. Liberals are the real racists in this country. Once he endorsed Obama…it was all confirmed for me.
As soon as Clinton appointed him, is when I knew, for sure and certain, what he was; though I had had some reservations about him at the end of the Gulf War.
The minute he endorsed Obama, I was certain that he was a damned racist and far worse a man, than I had ever suspected him to be.
I knew Powell was liberal, but I thought more in the RINO mode….I
really felt let down when he supported Obumble…..I guess I thought
he would bite the bullet and endorse McCain because of their special
brotherhood in the military…but he ended up being not only a turncoat,
but the dog that bit the hand that fed him…….
Powell's military achievements are one thing, but his politics are lousy.
It was bad enough when he endorsed Obama before the election, but
after a year of disasters and Obama's taking the country as far left as
he dares as of now, how could Powell still stand by his man?
Either Powell is blind and deaf or he is a willing participant in the
destruction of America, as we have known it.
Why doesn't Powell just shut up and retire?
When the term "teabagger" is used to describe us I use it freely!
http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=6228809n&a...
Finally taking Obama to task, at about the 10 minute mark
Burn, baby, burn! I can't wait for tomorrow's broadcast! I haven't tuned in for many years, but I'm listening to this episode!
The guy is not a conservative……….so what ya think he would do
If they would have lisened to Norman Swartzkopt instead of "extend your hand Powell" and finished the job, like he wanted to do, we would not be in this mess today. Powell was a joke, from the start. He will fit right in with Obama's crowd—–Extend the hand, and let the world laught at this muslim , man child.
I bet ol' Colon has a future in TV commercials!
Love your post…but I think this Black President is going to give
fodder to the race baiters….with such statements as, he was
black, and wasn't given a chance….he was black, and that's why
his ideas weren't accepted…..The race baiters will always use
race, even if Obumble was the 14th Black President, they make
their living that way, and keep their people where they want them..
I'm sure if we dug deep enough into his family tree we would find some "Frenchy-French" woah..ho..ho..!
"It is wrong to be French!" ~ Al Bundy
It was Bush who appointed him.
Powell's CV goes like this……………..President Bush the elder, then CLINTON, the President Bush the younger.
You missed a few appointments along that way, I fear.
You didn't specify what position. And you actually thumbed me for that? Unbelievable.
Isn't Colin Powell with Kleiner Perkins the same company Al Gore is involved with? And Isn't Colin Powell a global warming advocate? Alotta people have some sort of stake in these global warming shenanigans don't they? So I bet there are a few things he must like about Obama's agenda.
You didn't specify which position either, but I did say that Clinton had appointed him and you argued with me, after that, that it was "Bush", without specifying which one, so yes, I did thumb you down for that one.
We always seem to agree and I expect better from you, because you are knowledgeable.
Yes the winners do write history and the progressives/diversity movement is out to change our history books. A few years ago I knew a Mexican/American man who started to talk about that schools should change the history books to reflect more Mexicans in them. He was serious. I said to him that it was Americans that fought both the Revolution and the Civil wars. He persisted that if the people of Mexican heritage were represented more in history books, it would give the Latin students more pride and encourage them to do better in school. I was stunned. It has always been the winners write the history and now we should change it because it's going to bolster someone's self-esteem? HUH? Off topic, but worth the mention.
Prevented? Are you absolutely nuts? The worst is yet to come. You obviously do not follow the news.
You mean obama propaganda spots.
Nothing a few grenades here and there couldn't cure.
http://www.victorhanson.com/articles/hanson021910...
Agreed?
You been drinking the kool aid huh? FYI: Don't drink the kool aid lest you end up like a Jim Jones follower, they drank the kool aid. Why not be a little original among the progressive crowd and umm use your brain rather than your mouth. Just a suggestion.
When you split the stocks as much as obama did to our currency, the DOW needs to be around 36000-40000 to be even close to where Bush left it. You haven't a clue.
Outstanding statement.
Hopefully you have all been reading this at Big J.com. If not, here it is:

Supposed to be more to come. A few errors, but should be required reading for anyone capable of independent, analytical thought.
Criticism of religion is not criticism or denial of God, merely an observation that all large-scale human endeavors are subject to a corrupting influence, and as such should be viewed with a healthy dose of skepticism…
Powell was another affirmative action General. As far as the stock market being higher than the end of Bush's term, the whole economy is far, far worse off now. YOU, who voted for this dupa, helped the Chicago Mafia get entrenched in the upper echelon. Many black writers have come to Obama's defense, but virtually all of these writers are so happy we have a black president….they voted color, nothing else. Yes, the Republican party had a terrible ticket, but interviews showed blacks voted for, and will always vote for, blacks merely because they are black. Powell is a disgrace, and both parties stink. We have to turn our attention away from the Demfreaks, and get somebody else who has the maturity and smarts to start extricating us from our fine military industrial complex. Business as usual, taxpayers buying weapons so the businesses like Halliburton can find their oil and sock it to us. We as taxpayers are getting raped. Powell, you are a total disgrace and phony. Get lost.
He is also light skinned and has no negro dialect… unless he chooses to have one. Credit to Dingy Harry.
Powell is a straight-up racist. He voted for Obama only because they have the same skin color.
Besides, calling Powell a republican is like calling McCain or Spector (when he was one) a republican.
They are progressives. Progressives in either party or anywhere are anathema to Freedom.
Rush called this one early on. He was spot-on. To progressives, skin color is more important than party or country.
I kiss no one's ass Lorben. The fact that you assume I do, tells me that you do, and therefore, you assume all others do as well.
Good luck with that.
Tell me how you knew, and be very specific!!
Oh come on, you really think that Powell was going to say anything bad about his messiah??? Absolutely no way Powell would ever admit in any way shape or manner that Obama was something we all know to be true — he's in over his head and doesn't have a clue what's going on.
Cheney is correct: OBAMA IS A ONE-TERM PRESIDENT.
Have to say I'm disappointed at the polls at CPAC. Ron Paul??? He's the crazy scientologist of the Republican Party for pete's sake. I suppose this means all the paulites are going to be out in full force for the next couple of years. (rolling eyes)
"AND RACE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS ENDORSEMENT" said Cleopatra.
…Queen of the Nile
There are, in truth, a few men in history who smoothly transitioned from military careers to forge productive and honorable careers in politics: Colin Powell was not one of them.
Powell is Black Obama is Black. Powell put his race above the good of his country. I had great respect for him at one time. I have none for him now. He is damaged goods and I don't care to hear anything he has to say again. Case closed.
The only thing Obamao has prevented is a timely recovery. When he took office, things got worse. Nothing has worked and he has accomplished nothing, with the exception of continuing to be a community organizer and campaigner. Name one positive accomplishment and perhaps we will listen to you.
It makes me laugh every time you call someone a NUT SACK, Missy. Keep it up, I enjoy reading your posts and replies.
To be a high ranking military officer one have very accute political skills.
Powell parlayed his ability and race (lets face it people) in to high rank.
His endorsement of Okenyan was nothing but RACE BASED and we all know it.
So – yo Powell – blow out yer ass. You saddled up on a LOSER, purely because he is black (sorta kinda).
He's NONE of the things you identified in your endorsemant – he's the opposite.
This "face saving" exercise is transparent and tiring. Go away.
It appears there are still many people unwilling to admit, yet, that a huge percentage of those who voted for Obama did so because he was Black. I didn't suffer that problem–I wanted who was best for the country based on what we seemed to know, then, which also explains why I didn't vote for Cap'n Crunch. Whether you were a handwringing White looking to assuage your guilt for ever having used "that word" or a Black supremacist looking to mold the world in your own image, voting for Obama because he is Black was incredibly stupid, cowardly, and self-defeating. He came forth, during the campaign season, with a sufficiently definitive portrait of himself that nobody, who has retained their right and corresponding responsibility to think for themselves would have voted for him. I'm still stunned.
I don't pull punches, you know that.
I won't let the proggie radicals get away with their BS anymore..
I use my bitch powers!
Yeah whatever, you keep telling yourself that….go back to your cave…you have nothing to contribute except talking points from your commissar….
As much as I hate to say it, Jamesb, you're right–again.
What does this disagreement stemmed from Flynn?
Have I missed Something?
This is what's wrong with teabaggers – too many idiots in your movement.
Tell me, do you think it's OK to spend MY tax dollars on some war against "islamofascism". No, morons, I am not asking about YOUR tax dollars, I am asking about mine.
What does this disagreement stem from Lorben?
Have I missed Something?
This president may have just ruined it for future black presidents due to his arrogance, ignorance and his underlying reason for pushing things down our throats that we do not want as a country. This country was not founded on taking away from the earners and giving it to friends of the president, and those who have never worked for anything. This presidency will not soon be forgotten, in my opinion, and it will not be fondly remembered. WE THE PEOPLE! REMEMBER THAT!
Funny I seem to recall Democrats being charge of Legislation from 2007 and onward including Senator Obama. Ya know those people who write spending bills and such. I notice everyone wants to throw blame at Bush while simultaneously ignoring the roles Democrats Including Barack Obama played in such things. In other words you cant blame Bush without also blaming the Democrat Majorities in the House and Senate.
I don't think he was ever a republican.
More like Obamas colon pal!!
Colin Powell, RIP
This is what is wrong with Progressives They want to call names and talk about war spending which goes away versus Permanent Government Programs and Government Bureaucrats that never disappear and only grows that they always support with open arms.
I am cuban american, and I remenber very well when he said that after all Fidel Castro was not bad. If you like him so much go to Cuba , it will be ok for you, a friend of and murderer !
Paul's son is running for senator in Kentucky now. Like Father, like son. They believe alike and the son, in my opinion, feels entitled because daddy is one. Daddy is helping son, or trying too. The son has a much more qualified opponent. Hopefully the opponent will win.
Oh gee…………………..that's old Dingy Harry being a racist. You've got it down pat. LOL
I don't believe he will be there for them. He has stabbed them in the back already.
Ok boys, back to your corners. I'm thumbing you both up. And careful with the racist lingo. Unless you have proof. We don't want to be like the progressives.
Why don't you guys just go back to calling me an RP Kook? I just got through making a tin foil hat and everything. It's pointy on top.
Conservatives do not need this knucklehead! If Powell cannot figure out that this administration's agenda is wrong for the country, then I say 'good riddance'!
It’s all about a ‘brother’ supporting a ‘brother.’ Skin color above all, to hell with the country.
I always wondered, was Harry being a racist… or honest? What irony.
We have Colin Powell to thank for Michael Powell, his son, and the debacle he has been as an FCC Commissioner. Michael decided to exempt the internet service providers from oversight under the 1996 Telecommunications Act by in 2002 classifying broadband services as information services rather than telecommunications services. This enabled the providers of the service to avoid the open access rules that h ave promoted the growth of the internet.
In 2000, America was in the forefront of Web development and access. Now we are far behind as industrialized countries have cheaper service, greater percentage of access, and some eight times the speed available to Americans.
Affirmative action appointees and nepotism are not cheap. There is a price to be paid, and our country has been severely disadvantaged in many areas where the consequences are not obvious as a result. Gen. Powell always was and remains an affirmative action hack rather than a person who secured his positions based on merit. And conspiculously, Gen. and then Sec. Powell has not been particularly circumspect regarding basing his actions on racial affiliation. With Powell's years of experience, you would think he could have done a better "personnel evaluation" of then candidate Obama's capabilities..
Forget the Dow- shall we talk public debt as a % of GDP? How about unemployment? Foreclosures? Bankruptcies? Negative economic growth? America as the next Greece or Spain?
It's easy to keep the Dow pumped up if you're just borrowing money from China and funneling it to Goldman Sachs. Especially if investors are stying the hell out of the bond market with all that cheap Treasury paper flooding it.
I can't say I know much about Powell, but if I could pull his military record I bet it would depict an ass-kisser who sucked his way up the promotion ladder and never commanded a fighting force.
He is a troll and his methods are to draw you out with honey and then slam you. Don't let his sweet words draw you in…its a trap.
OMG! What dreamworld did you step into? This country is hanging on by it's fingernails. Unemployment is over 9%. And we don't even know if those number are accurate because many states are no longer keeping proper records. We have over 10 trillion in debt. The dollar is dangerously close to being rejected as the world's currency. And our government is deliberately attempting to create hyper-inflation in order to make our debt to China evaporate, which is why they don't want to loan us any more money. This IS a depression.
But the really, really good news is that the credit bubble hasn't yet burst. Meaning, we still have that financial crisis coming. Before the end of the year, no less. And because we screwed over the Chinese, they won't be there to bail us out. This is going to make the Great Depression look like an all-expenses-paid trip to Disney Land.
Are you really an RP KOOK. bet0001970 ?
Collin's wife's words were the first hint, as to where both of them were and it was quite the revelation. But when Powell came out for Barry, and what he said and how he acted, sealed the deal. He backed Obama solely based on race.
Thx for off-topic remarks, I am stunned, you took my breath away……………… Extrapolate that thought to
include our citizens from India, China, Viet Nam, Arab States, etc, etc. Holy cow we want EVERYONE
to have a good sense of self esteem. We should just teach cooking, I guess. Melting Pot!!!!!!!!
Only another CYA-type of horses ass like Powell could run cover for a bigger horses ass like Obama…He'll probably be the next Sec of State when HilBilly resigns to restart the PUMA Party….Resume her run at the Bamsterin '12
You heard it here 1st…
Sure, get rid of all entitlement programs- but don't tell me to spend my tax money on wars that I don't want either.
Powells' military career was vastly enhanced by affirmative action. I read an article on him 10 yrs ago,
don't remember many details, but do remember my conclusion. Prissy, pretty boy, notice he tilts his
nose in the air like the obamaroid.
OBAMISTAKE
LoriBen
If our Black brothers and sisters haven't seen the light on the Dims yet after all that's come out about PlannedParent-in-the-Hood, I really don't know what it will take. Gots to let go of the HarryReid Plantation mentality…
It's struggle…
Red, I spent ten years in the Navy. I took an oath to uphold the Constitution. I am required to live this out in every aspect of my life. I don't have the luxury of voting for a party or an agenda. I must vote for the candidate who will uphold the Constitution. Not parts of it. ALL of it. I don't have to like everything, but I do have to live up to the oath I took.
Now, who do you think I could support, based on that?
Don't freak out or anything. I made matching tin foil Wonder Woman wrist bands to go with the hat. It's wicked awesome!
Completely agree here. M3 will bring us down. I recommend buying lots of cigarettes and booze when cash ain't king.
My feelings exactly.
Colin Powell sought absolution for his sponsorship of the Iraq war from his most valued stakeholders …the DC beltway elite. This is why he voted for Obama and announced this at the moment of greatest impact to his friend John McCain. Powell is not a racist, he is an un-principled opportunist who should be shunned by the new conservative movement building with the GOP. This treachery by so-called moderates is not new…..remember congressman dede scozzofava, or wayne gilchrest ?
Rush Limbaugh gave Colin Powell's vote for Obama was the number one "republican moderate " moment in 2008….I agree
Not many Republicans are true IMHO…
I read an article on him about 10 yrs ago, & my opinion afterward was just as you said, with one add-
ition. His in-laws thought he was a prissy-ass pretty boy, when their daughter brought him home to
meet them.
Perhaps both and those who made such a stink over his use of the word NEGRO, are more racist than he !
Powell is the Army's answer to Adm Mullen. Douchebags.
