ACORN in California Splits From Bertha Lewis
by Michael Volpe
The California chapter of ACORN has split from the group and changed its name.
Thousands of Californians who live in or close to poverty in the state have worked hard for decades to score victories that level the playing field. They’ve passed laws that increase affordable housing and raise the minimum wage, so they can provide for their families. They’ve also spent their personal time, which is in chronically short supply, pushing for better teachers and textbooks so the kids in their neighborhoods can have better opportunities. On these and other issues the odds have been against them, but these Californians leveraged their significant numbers with coordinated grassroots organizing to achieve victory.
Until now, they carried out this work as a chapter of the national organization ACORN. Until now, governance and financial management resided at the national level. In recent months it has become increasingly clear to the leadership, staff and members in California that the serious challenges ACORN is facing are jeopardizing the important work we are doing here in California.
The new entity will be called Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE). It will, on paper at least, be entirely separate now from ACORN. The relationship will be what Wade Rathke characterized the relationship between ACORN and ACORN Housing. ACORN is its own entity and ACCE is its own entity and the two are fighting for common goals.
It’s important to note that most, if not all, of the staff and board of ACORN in California will be kept on with the new company. In fact, at the bottom of the press release the contact person is Amy Schur. Schur, according to a source, was privvy to the knowledge that Dale Rathke had been involved in embezzlement from ACORN and kept that knowledge from the board.
This continues the slow and painful-to-watch disintegration of ACORN. Last month, I did a similar story centered in Connecticut.
Its political allies fled. And with its national organization fighting for its life and unable to give any money, ACORN of Bridgeport is doing what other chapters have been doing across the nation, going independent, sort of.
This month, the group began a campaign to raise money and create two local nonprofits, one to concentrate on social issues, the other on political action. To be clear, the plan is to continue to work with other chapters on national issues through a federation, according to Emeline Bravo-Blackwood, a small business owner who is leading the effort to transform the group in Bridgeport.
This is slightly different for a few reasons. In that case, the name didn’t change and the local chapter turned itself into a federation of ACORN. In this case, the California chapter is not only changing its name but cutting ties with the national organization, at least visibly.
The most interesting dynamic to watch going forward is what the relationship will be between Gubernatorial candidate, Jerry Brown, and the new organization. ACORN is a voter registration force and that organization contributed heavily to helping Brown get elected as he was moving up the political ranks. He’s now in the uncomfortable position of having to investigate ACORN. Of course, ACORN in California is no longer. (that’s no small thing since California was their biggest chapter in terms of members)
The people at ACCE are the same as those at the former ACORN in California only with the name change there’s likely to be less scrutiny. Will there be folks out in full force wearing ACCE shirts signing up voters? Will the media notice that those folks are really from ACORN? Only time will tell that.

so did they take only the "honest" ones or have some of the "corrupt" ones moved over two….pull the organizations out by the roots!!
Same players, same game, different front names…Nothing has or will change!
Not to disregard the fact that there are people in this country that do benefit from such 'services', but when you prey on the desperate, they are bound to unconditionally follow, no matter the moral cost. We need to educate people on how to be self sufficient, not on how to get more entitlements…

The apple (nut in this case) does not fall far from the tree… only time will tell, but as for me, I will remain diligent and skeptical.
Very discouraged that law enforcement has not begun locking these people away. They can make a RICO case against mom and pop adult book store owners, but well not against those who deserve life in a cell at a supermax.
Same game, different name. It's all crooked and needs to be uprooted and prosecuted.
They should rename it Alliance of Californians for Neighborhood Empowerment (ACNE).
Another pimple on the a$$ of America.
Looks like the SA in the front is flipping the camera off.
Terrorists change their names and ID's. It sorta works.
"AACE"?
What a way to call a spade a spade.
They are trying to go underground and diversify to hide themselves
"This continues the slow and painful-to-watch disintegration of ACORN."
I diagree, this hasn't been painful at all.
Good point. ACORN certainly isn't a rose ;-/
Yet another racketeering organization we can look forward to scrutinize.
You can put the ACORN in the ground to hide it, but it still takes a lot of dirt to make it grow…this is a criminal organization, that has been allowed to continue their corruption, through many presidents, whom have chosen to look the other way…it's time for the curtain to fall on this bunch of losers!!
Yes, the rats are fleeing the sinking ship. And like the mythical Phoenix they will soon rise from the ashes of the mighty ACORN, but not as a single entity as the Phoenix, but in numerous perfect reincarnations to better disguise their continued plundering. To be small enough to fly under our radar. However the same names will continue to permeate their organizations and their actions will continue expose them as being the rats that they are. The leopard cant change it's spots and a skunk can't disguise is revulsive odor. There is no way to weed out the bad from this group, or trust that they would, other than to permanently prevent their ability to siphon our tax dollars. They are a far greater threat to our country than the health care industry or homeschoolers.
Smoke and Mirrors. It's just another layer to the onion that is left wing social engineering.
This is like John Gotti changing his name to Mike.
Now the Cali chapter can hire its own crooks. No longer are they beholden to the national office and its crooks.
ACORN and ACCE are as different from each other as Superman and Clark Kent.
They can change their name, but ,their still ' NUTS' !
More like it's metastasizing. Kill the cancer on this country, that is ACORN.
That's a goodun'

"What's in a name? That which we call an acorn
By any other name would smell as sour."
My apologies to Bill S.
ACCE = A Wolf in Sheeps clothing.
So far we know that they have crooks in San Diego, San Bernardino, And Los Angeles. Let it be noted that Felix Harris is not willing to help Pimps or Prostitutes.
Sorry .. that's like Hilter changing his company name to Hilters Day Care – how many videos were from California again?
I posted this 6 weeks ago & it still applies:
Hmmm, lets look at it like this: You don't have direct government support as a large entity, i.e. al-Qaeda, so you break down to cells & place layers of plausible deniability to supporters that are in the government to keep finances & favors coming your. If one of these cells gets caught doing something it shouldn't, "well, that was them, not us". You wait until you have remodeled & rebuilt your group to look "respectable" & allow open support by government officials again. Then in, oh, let's say 7 years, re-introduce yourselves as a new unified grassroots organization & we start the game all over again.
Strangely, I don't feel that a new era of virtue has been embarked upon and evil repudiated…not sure why…must be me, for none in California would dare countenance underhanded games in pursuit of political power.
I thought Intuit was the king of painting a pig a different color.
Quicken. Meet ACORN.
I see nothing different here with the exception of moving some letters around in the name. I guess I am easily fooled.
ACORN buses are warmin up and ready for da MASS election! SEUI, blacks, and welfare hacks are ready to vote Democrat at 120% of registration like we did in 2008! [No questions may be axed as they will be considered racist.]
As an aside, anyone else see the guy copping a feel in their promo photo?
Keep your mallets handy. Whack-a-mole game continues.
Yeah, that and the kids that are obviously too young to work.
So what, 11 people, 8 of whom are too young to drink. Yeah these people are awesome.
And not a darn thing said about training the workers.
The governing board wouldn't be called the "Director's Enclave" would it? Acronym: ACCEDE
ACORN is like an earthworm. You can cut it in half and both ends will continue to live. And both endes are still earthworms.
Aww..isn't that cute. And with the money they make off of underage Salvadoran sex slaves they could hire someone to design a spiffy new logo too!
As everyone said… different name, same corruption filled organization….
Goes right along with the COI change and now this one…
The California chapter of ACORN has split from the group and changed its name—
AMERICA, DON'T FALL FOR IT!! THIS WAS PREDICTED BY GLENN BECK WHEN THIS SCANDAL FIRST HIT THE FOX NEWS (OF COARSE NOT THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA)!
LIES, LIES, LIES!!!
That guy in the front row has his hand on that lady's boob….heh, heh, heh,….that's cool…heh, heh, heh
You are correct so therefore I'm wrong
You are wrong then I'm right
you do not like that then
to stop this madness
everything you say is correct and is called the law
Now if I break what you say in your laws
you put me in a jail
problem solved for now
until someone gets tired of your unjust laws
world wars, civil wars
we all have different opinon
the truth is that human beings are starving
for power.
the power of your right I'm not
