Flashback: Census Bureau Dumped Unreliable ACORN After Videos Exposed Corruption
by Matthew VadumThe Census Bureau dumped ACORN as a “national partner” in the 2010 head count last fall after James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles’s undercover videos spotlighting ACORN’s rampant corruption debuted here on Big Government.

In a letter dated Sept. 11 that terminated the Census Bureau’s relationship with ACORN, Census director Robert M. Groves wrote
Over the last several months, through ongoing communication with our regional offices, it is clear that ACORN’s affiliation with the 2010 Census promotion has caused sufficient concern in the general public, has indeed become a distraction from our mission, and may even become a discouragement to public cooperation, negatively impacting 2010 Census efforts.
While not decisive factors in this decision, recent events concerning several local offices of ACORN have added to the worsening negative perceptions of ACORN and its affiliation with our partnership efforts.
The Census had to act because it’s important to keep dishonest and incompetent workers far away from the nation’s once-a-decade Census.
The data gathered are used to help determine who gets what and how much in the nation’s federalist system of governance. Population figures arrived at through the Census decide which states gain and lose seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, the redistricting of state legislatures, county and city councils, and electoral districts.
False or inflated population figures can water down or negate entirely the value of an individual’s vote just as effectively as stuffing ballot boxes.
That’s why Americans were outraged last year when they learned the Obama administration bent over backwards to give ACORN a major role as a “national partner” in the 2010 Census.
In March, after the Obama administration tried unsuccessfully to consolidate control over Census operations in the White House, officials downplayed the significance of ACORN’s participation in the Census:
Any charge or claim that a Census Bureau partner could influence or have direct input into census operations is baseless and inaccurate … the Census Bureau has strict quality assurance procedures in every operation to prevent the introduction of errors and/or fraudulent information into the national count.
The official statement was, however, largely beside the point.
After Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the administration the Census Bureau disclosed that ACORN’s involvement gave it ample opportunities to influence how the count would be conducted.
ACORN’s status as a “national partner” in the Census entitled it to “[i]dentify job candidates and distribute recruiting materials,” and “[p]rovide space to train new employees.”
Just what the Census needs: radical left-wing community organizers as employees, recruiters, and trainers.
The “national partner” status also would have helped ACORN to pose as a respectable group by allowing it to “[u]se census drop-in articles, messages and logos in newsletters, mailings, etc.” (See page 113 of the Census Bureau’s May 15, 2009 Freedom of Information Act response to Judicial Watch.)
“Given its history of illegal activity and fraud, ACORN should be nowhere near the 2010 Census,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said last year.

James O'Keefe should have a sign up page, for all the volunteers.
Hey, wait a second, I'm a web programmer with 10 years of experience, and I can set up James O'Keefe's volunteer sign up pages, should he wish.
We'd all like to help him keep doing the work he's doing. Frankly, I don't care for credit for my work, just for the work to get done.
MAC DADDY HAS TOTALLY LOST HIS MOJO…
If he ever had any MOJO. Check him out, this Messiah is not walking on top of the water, he walking on the rocks!
To paraphrase Stalin…"The power doesn't lie with the one who votes, it lies with the one who counts the vote." "The Census Bureau has strict quality assurances in every operation to prevent the introduction of errors and/or fraudulent information in the national count." coming from this WH is not exactly comforting "assurance", ACORN's disassociation not withstanding. Always scary when this admin releases a statement with "fraudulent" and "assurance" in the same sentence.
Poor Berttie lost out on all that cash that the Kenyan Marxist was going to throw her way.
"Not to worry,,,,the White House has reviewed the allegations and determined beyond any reasonable suspicion that the census is without any fraud or corruption,,,,,in fact we even had Bill Clinton review our procedures and processes to give further assurance to our nation."
Now get back to work,,,we need your tax dollars!!
Just a funny census story here-
My neighbor is an EMS Tech in Leland & Navassa, NC.
A census worker came to both our homes last week and he wasn't home. When I told him they were at his house, he became agitated over the whole census mess but then stopped to tell me this hilarious story.
After all the reports about felons and other low lifes hired by the census bureau, one little old lady clearly wasn't having any.
My EMS neighbor was called to a home where a 62 year old disabled senior citizen, confined to a motorized chair lives. It seems she didn't answer her door when a census worker arrived and when he got no answer, her opened her front door and entered her home.
Well, the next thing he knew she threw a huge pot of boiling water at him, hit him repeatedly with a heavy skillet and basically beat the living crap out of him! All this while still in her chair!
She was treated for heart palpitations and the census worker was arrested after being treated for severe burns on his face and arms as well as multiple contusions on his head and other body parts….
All I can say is that she is my kind of gal!
The Census had to act because it’s important to keep dishonest and incompetent workers far away from the nation’s once-a-decade Census.

It's to late by the time the Census worker's hit the ground. The Census is corrupt before the first form is returned.
If you count illegal aliens, people in jails waiting to be deported, individuals numerous times, etc the entire process, from start to finish, is then corrupt and representation skewed.
It would be funny if it were not true. This kind of thing makes my skin crawl. How dare the federal government invade our privacy,,,,and our homes under the guise of 'looking out for the little guy'.
Color me disgusted,,,but not surprised.
The one Census employee who came by my place (wondering when he could catch a neighbor at home) was very professional and friendly, and the only individual I know personally who is working for the Census is a responsible guy. I'm glad ACORN was pushed back from the level of involvement President Obama had his heart set on, but O'Keefe has pretty well established that the Census employs other bad seeds — some of whom are managers!
repetative

"Census Bureau Dumped Unreliable ACORN After Videos Exposed Corruption"
And now we're seeing the videos exposing the Census Bureau's corruption. Can a Federal agency empty the trash without committing a crime?
I have heard some pretty awful stories about census workers but this one is priceless.
Now I think I'll clean the coffee off my screen
As ACORN fades, groups like ALMOND and PECAN are moving in to steal your tax money and waste it. This is a SHOCKING development uncovered at: http://spnheadlines.blogspot.com/2010/03/new-nut-...
Keep smiling!
How is having ACORN involved in the census a good idea?
They have proven themselves to be untrustworthy and corrupt, putting the veracity and accuracy of the all important census in doubt in the mind of half the Country.
Voter Fraud equals Census Fraud… It's really just a confidence and credibility issue
Isn't it comforting to know that one of the first things Obama did after the inauguration was to take control of the Census Bureau away from the relatively independent Department of Commerce and put it under the control of political operative Rahm Emanuel?
Imagine if Bush had done something so blatantly political.
The purpose in doing this was to:
1) Make it easier for Democrats to gerrymander federal and state House districts, and;
2) To give the DNC more demographic information to use for fundraising and campaigning.
The only reason Acorn was kicked is because of James….The President knew he had to try to distance himself for "POLITICAL" gain only….If James did not expose them Acorn would be making millions on Census fraud right now…Do not let up on the corrupt left for one minute..expose them for what they are keep the pressure on
Friends who were enumerators have told me that this sort of intrusion is specifically forbidden by the Census Bureau and that they make that clear in their training.
Under no condition are enumerators allowed to enter a private residence, even to go to the bathroom, get a drink of water, or get out of the rain – even if the resident invites them in.
That Census worker violated the rules – and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Obama having politicized the Census has cost us many many millions of dollars in having enumerators return to homes and his actions have reduced the accuracy and hence the value of the data.
Remember – Obama took control of the Census Bureau away from the Dept. of Commerce and gave it to political operative Rahm Emanuel. If control is passed back to the Dept of Comm., that may help its objectivity in the future.
"How is having ACORN involved in the census a good idea? "
It isn't a good idea and they weren't involved, despite Obama's desire that they be. He wanted to pay them back for getting out the vote in 2008 – reminding us that he abuses the resources of the federal government to further his party's goals rather than doing what is best for the nation as a whole.
If folks are worried about cash being given to activist organizations, consider that the money that would have gone to ACORN for providing enumerators was a drop in the bucket. The enumerators would have gotten most of that money.
The big money still went to "community organizers" for their promotion of the Census – and THAT wasn't blocked.
Hiring ACORN to do the enumerating would have helped ACORN but a lot of the money would have gone to the workers. With the Census promotion contracts, activists didn't have to actually do ANYTHING to get paid. Obama used that as a slush fund to spread around federal money and buy favors.
How soon before this 'Big Lew' wannabe sues this LilOleLady right out of her wheelchair?
Short answer– NO!
I'm glad Acorn lost this "contract"..It's the only bright spot since Obumble took office!!
Now that's what I call a great American patriot. Kudos to the lady.
I wonder how many residents of graveyards and folks over 150 years of age will wind up in the census count?
You can take the Census out of ACORN,………….
but you can't take the ACORNism out of the Census.
Shoot:
Census workers breaking and entering,….Black Panthers Poll watching,……..
and a clown in the White House,……….. acting stupidly.
Then obviously, the Bureau was put in Rahm's control to 'cook' the census information and was dirty from the git-go? But why the ruse, Spanky, of 'dumping' ACORN since the one organization is as corrupt as the other and knows it?
"If control is passed back to the Dept of Comm., that may help its objectivity in the future."
Let's face facts on that, Spanky–it ain't happening as long as this regime is in the WH. They lied, cheated and stole to get into Office and have every intention of doing more of the same to stay there. As you well know, "objectivity" is not a welcomed term in the Leftist vocabulary.
Many thanks for the clarification ;-|
(That's a really nice fly in your photo, boris, did you make it?)
We don't know for sure that the data are corrupt (as in tallied wrongly or fudged) but I do firmly believe that the data are being abused.
I agree that this Administration has zero interest in doing the right thing, only in increasing their stranglehold on the throat of our great nation.
ACORN was dumped because of the loud clamor over their deceit. Without ACORN, they can pretend that they did the Census legitimately.
There have been a couple of bright spots.
"Card check" hasn't been passed yet. That was on Obama's "to-do" list for his first year as payback for the support of his powerful special interest group unions.
The DNA database of all arrestees is currently on hold. That too was a priority.
Public option health care is temporarily blocked.
The federal health database isn't happening yet.
Obama is basically copying Bush's surge in Iraq (which worked for the most part) and trying it in Afghanistan.
The stimulus was a hugely overpriced ineffective fantasy in terms of actual economic progress (not in terms of influence buying, though, he did succeed there).
Voters are becoming more repulsed by his federal appointment selections, such as the fisting guy.
World leaders are largely turning their backs on Obama. I truly think he believed that once he took office, the rest of the world would worship him as much as the Democrats do. He's sadly mistaken. The only heads of state who seem to like him are the Islamic leaders to whom he bows and some overt Communist dictators like Chavez and Castro. And the support he does receive is based on his weakness as a leader, not on his strength.
He's alienated our natural allies, which will surely have negative repercussions before too long.
So the Obamunists have had a few setbacks or delays – but we must become even more vigilant and work even harder to get them out of office, all the way down to the local school board level.
Your right Ralph this has to be the most dishonest corrupt giving payback administration ever
Guess we'll eventually find out whether or not the data has been corrupted. And agreed–surely, they mean to abuse that data or else Rahm would not have been needed.
Your response regarding ACORN: I suspected as much. This Administration is embarrassing itself in their attempts to appear legitimate.
Yank, unfortunately that is a little beyond my meager fly tying abilities, but thanks anyway.
Clown in the White House? Aren't clowns suppose to be funny? He's more of an @ssclown.
Thanks for the "follow." Much appreciated.
boris the bad, I can't remember if you ever said what part of the world you live in?
TR, I live in the beautiful state of Washington. It is much too blue on the coast ( thanks to the lib/prog nutcases in the greater Seattle area), but definitely red east of the mountains. I plan to move to eastern Wa. soon. Thanx for askin'. BTW, great fly-fishing all over the state.
"Guess we'll eventually find out whether or not the data has been corrupted."
I hope we'll find out, but I suspect that if there's one thing that the Obama Administration does reasonably well is that it covers it's tracks.
It would be VERY easy for them to fudge the numbers and no one would ever know outside of a small cadre of Obama-devotees.
They're all nuts.
"no one would ever know outside of a small cadre of Obama-devotees."
But WE already know, don't we, Spanky??
The evidence will be shredded ASAP. The Obamunists know to do this.
"ASAP" …if not sooner.
You lucky "cartoon character", living the dream in the Great NW…
We drive up the 97 a couple of times a year to visit Drifters sister in ID…
OR is tops but WA is close…
Does Natasha fish?…
Same in Oregon. The Willamette valley and west goes from slightly pinkish (some red holdouts remain) to cold dark blue, I am sure you have seen this, but my old home state has been californicated. I get sick of hearing everyone carp about being a victim of some sort or other when I go to visit the family.
They were "disinvolved" after the O'Keefe scandal caused too much pressure on the White House.
Their control of the enumerators' standards would have been a problem.
I have a fridge magnet that sums it up:
"Can't sleep. Clowns will eat me."
You bet. See you at the next troll-roast, Texas.
Oh geeeeeez I have to go to bed now and I'm afraid I all have dreams of Oblahblah eating me. Double shudder. acckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Take your Monster Spray to bed.
Clowns are a family joke, now. But for years it was not funny to my son. Until he was about 6, he abhorred clowns. If we went to a fair or other event with a clown, he always knew exactly where the crazy thing was. My husband hated them when he was young. I just wondered why Emmett Kelly was so sad.
Sweet dreams
I abhor clowns and I am 45! I don't even like Santa Claus and if I go to a theme park and I see those characters I walk as far from them as possible. There is something not natural about Clowns, Santa Claus, Characters and Nancy Pelosi they are fake, pointless and scare small children (and some adults)
I guess I should have written "How would it have been a good idea?"…
Let's hope any new resurrections of ACORN are also not involved in any way…

Let's hope any new resurrections of ACORN are also not involved in any way…
I seriously doubt if as many as 10% of ACORN members could pass the entrance exam.
Damned shame we can't keep the little nuts' germination rate that low.

The problem is that teen pregnancy is quite high in areas where Obama support runs 95%, so they keep replenishing the supply of ACORN-susceptible activists.
