Breaking: While An Anxious Nation Is Transfixed By The Healthcare Debate, The Obama Administration Restores ACORN Funding
by Matthew VadumWhile America is distracted by Democrats’ attempts to unconstitutionally ram government-run healthcare down the throats of the American people, the Obama administration began preparing to resume funding to President Obama’s favorite community organizing group.
The fiscal floodgates are opening for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), the president’s former employer and legal client, despite a congressional ban on funding the activist group that has long been a practitioner of election fraud.
In a March 16 memo Office of Management and Budget (OMB) director Peter Orszag quietly ordered federal agencies to resume funding the group whose employees were caught on hidden camera videos last year condoning a variety of crimes including child prostitution and tax evasion.
The memo came a week after renegade federal judge Nina Gershon of the Eastern District of New York made permanent her temporary injunction prohibiting Congress from cutting off funding for ACORN.
The memo also came despite the fact that the Department of Justice is planning to appeal Gershon’s ruling and seek a stay pending appeal.
It’s unclear why the Obama administration isn’t doing the responsible thing and waiting for the case to work its way through the judicial system.
Could the OMB be moving at lightning speed to restore funding for ACORN, which is under indictment in Nevada for election fraud, because ACORN is in dire financial straits? Perhaps it’s a reward for ACORN’s loyal support in the ObamaCare battle.

THE WASHINGTON TIMES: OBAMA SURRENDERS GULF TO PUTIN
The Obama administration is poised to ban offshore oil drilling on the outer continental shelf until 2012 or beyond. Meanwhile, Russia is making a bold strategic leap to begin drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico. While the United States attempts to shift gears to alternative fuels to battle the purported evils of carbon emissions, Russia will erect oil derricks off the Cuban coast.
Offshore oil production makes economic sense. It creates jobs and helps fulfill America's vast energy needs. It contributes to the gross domestic product and does not increase the trade deficit. Higher oil supply helps keep a lid on rising prices, and greater American production gives the United States more influence over the global market.
The Obama administration views energy policy through green eyeshades. Every aspect of its approach to energy is subordinated to radical environmental concerns. Russia more sensibly views energy primarily as a strategic resource. Energy is critical to Russia's economy, as fuel and as a source of profit through export. Russia also has used energy as a coercive diplomatic tool, shutting off natural gas piped to Eastern Europe in the middle of winter to make a point about how dependent the countries are that do business with the Russians.
Now Russia is using oil exploration to establish a new presence in the Western Hemisphere. It recently concluded four contracts securing oil-exploration rights in Cuba's economic zone in the Gulf of Mexico. A Russian-Cuban joint partnership will exploit oil found in the deep waters of the Gulf.
Cuba has rights to the area in which drilling will be conducted under an agreement the Carter administration recognized. From Russia's perspective, this is another way to gain leverage inside what traditionally has been America's sphere of influence. It may not be as dramatic as the Soviet Union attempting to use Cuba as a missile platform, but in the energy wars, the message is the same. Russia is projecting power into the Western Hemisphere while the United States retreats. The world will not tolerate a superpower that acts like a sidekick much longer.

PERHAPS it is a reward? Just like all his other payoffs, including sticking the American taxpayers for the stimulus bill that is paying off or bribing his supporters. We must push our local prosecutors and state attorney generals to make sure that any ACORN office within our state boundaries is investigated within the full extent of the state codes. Audit their books, verify any voter registrations they turn in, etc.

The Gestapo (Government) has also proven if a problem is to big there will be amnesty (shamnesty). Should such and action take place by the American people. I'm fine with some wealth redistribution. Why hope and wait for it to trickle down, lets just pour it. Any changes in tax laws are a form of wealth redistribution, I'd rather see it skimmed off the top and used to give incentives to the bottom, including small business.
Health care professionals were involved, the majority support single-payer as long as their compensation isn't regulated to nothing. So maybe you're right no one listened to them because single-payer was never even on the table.
If I want free health care, I'll drop my insurance and just go to the emergency room for whatever I need. Right now, in our current system, for every dollar spent on health care, 50 cents of it is spent by the government. That number will go down as more people have insurance. These bills cover more people AND reduce the deficit as a result. I think we should go a step further and abolish Medicare.

I'm not a legal scholar by any means, but since ACORN has legally changed its name and organizational structure in many places now, wouldn't those places be ineligible for funding? After all, they're not legally ACORN anymore.

What difference does it make if offshore drilling doesn't happen. Even if we had more oil, it wouldn't mean anything because oil companies will do what it takes to keep a barel of oil over $75 which they consider the mark needed to make a decent profit. They have already slowed down production. Oil producing countries aren't the only one's sticking it to us. Until congress, the president, and big oil learn what integrity, honesty and not being crooked means, no need to whine about oil.

I'll take Kucinich at his word, that he really doesn't care for the bill because it doesn't go far enough, however, it is a positive step in the right direction, something needs to be done and its better than nothing, so he will support it.

But if you click the quote and then go to the actual article by McArdle you'll see the quote is very misleading, and its a bit questionable to call the CBO process "useless" because of this. OK, it costs around $8,-12,000 for health care for most families each year. This bill calls for a $1,500 penalty if you are caught without health care, yet requires health insurance companies to not reject anyone for preexisting health issues.
Why would any sane person pay $8-$12,000 a year for health care, when they can just go get insurance only when they get sick?
The gov't wins both ways, they bankrupt the insurance companies by forcing them to except everyone, and they fine (gov't income) everyone smart enough not to pay for health care until they actually need it.
I thought that was $1,500/month. I heard the IRS would verify your insurance status monthly.

There is such a thing as honor, I see very, very, very little of it in our politicians in Washington. That is a more succinct way to express my thought, in stead of "there is no honor in politics". Honor is important, so is doing the work for the American people, regardless of how Republicans carry themselves, so yeah, I support a bill that isn't the best ideal because we have to do something now to change a health insurance system that is damaging the people.

Circumstance and nuance most certainly can change empirical truth. Right and wrong have more rigid moral boundaries, but those boundaries can change also. Ethics and honor do not change easily, but truth can and does change, so the manner and circumstances that ethics are applied to truth must adapt. Not every truth is fundamental and one can argue no truth is absolute.
I think of our culture as it pertains to homosexuality as a good example to examine within these subjects.

Except there is no loss of honor in getting the bill passed. There is partisanship, there is procedural maneuvering on both sides of the aisle. But I see no dishonor in how it was passed. It is exactly to help the suffering of the masses. There is a big unknown what will happen exactly, but I don't think anyone can predict what will happen given the variable nature of new regulation applied to private markets.
I don't care about any of those talking points. I am tired of paying for the health care of the uninsured, so yeah, everyone should have insurance so we don't have to foot their bill. And even more importantly, so people don't go bankrupt because they have a significant health episode. People with insurance go bankrupt because the insurance company screws them over, so this is good reform in that regard.
A mandate to require people buy insurance is useless if there isn't a government option. Its too expensive as it is.
I'm glad you concede the point that health care is a right. Thats the first big step in understanding why we need reform, why everyone should be in the pool so no one is allowed to mooch off everyone else.
