Is the GOP Worthy of Governance?
by Michael S. Rulle Jr.The Democrat Party’s “40 year majority” will come to a close 38 years early. The unbearable trinity of Pelosi, Reid, and Obama has managed to alienate a nation desperate to support new leadership. They accomplished this by an insistence on unwanted quasi-Socialist policies and an irritating propensity to lead with their chin in foreign policy. The era of Obama is over, even as his Health Care proposal will likely pass. But does this mean a new era of Republican leadership is about to begin? This remains to be seen.

Peggy Noonan, a former Reagan speechwriter who supported Obama, has views similar to many who consider themselves centrist. She now realizes her support for Barack Obama was misguided. Yet she is tempted to take a “pox on both your houses” approach. She remains skeptical of the Republican Party, as I imagine many voters do. In her recent opinion essay in the Wall Street Journal she states:
“The question isn’t whether they’ll win seats in the House and Senate this year, and the question isn’t even how many. The question is whether the party will be worthy of victory, whether it learned from its losses in 2006 and ‘08, whether it deserves leadership. Whether Republicans are a worthy alternative. Whether, in short, they are serious.”
I had grown weary of many of Ms. Noonan’s commentaries. Her support for Obama was predicated on an obvious misunderstanding of his politics, nature, and ideology. But her implicit challenge to the GOP is spot on. While the critique premised in her comment is not completely fair, without question Republicans are viewed with skepticism. After all, it was a Republican administration which brought us bailouts, supported expansionary and unsustainable housing policies, expanded domestic spending, proposed an immigration policy as unpopular as the Democrat’s current Health Care Bill and made “earmarks” a household name. Worst of all, the party seemed to lose any sense of foundational principles. Just what do Republicans stand for?
GOP RESPONSE
The Republican Policy Committee has attempted to answer that question. The Committee is chaired by Michigan Congressman Thaddeus McCotter and consists of the ranking members of the five congressional committee chairs and other key members of the Republican caucus. In a clearly written 20 page pamphlet authored by McCotter, the Republicans list five foundational principles and derive from these principles policies which the Republican Party affirmatively supports. These principles, which I see as reminiscent of the stated and implied principles in the Declaration of Independence, are coherent, un-cynical, and necessary. They are:
1. Our liberty is from God not government. (“all men…. are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights”);
2) Our Sovereignty is in our souls not soil. (“…to secure these rights governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed”);
3) Our security is in strength not surrender. (The Declaration itself was a document asserting the Colonies right to use its military might in support of its principles);
4) Our prosperity is from the private sector not the public sector. (“that {among these} unalienable rights are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”); and
5) Our truths are self evident not relative. (“….we hold these truths to be self evident”).
It is obvious that our nation has faced serious challenges to the above stated principles. The first challenge was in not rejecting slavery at our nation’s inception. But this was corrected through the horror of the Civil War. The Republican Party and Lincoln’s presidency itself was founded in reaction to the permanent rejection of these principles by the Southern secessionists.
OF GOD AND TRUTH
Today’s so called progressive movement and various left wing manifestations thereof particularly tend to attack points one and five. The first amendment of the Bill of Rights states in part; “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”. But the left has interpreted this to mean Government has the affirmative obligation to prohibit all forms religion in the public arena, itself a definition that has become so absurdly broad as to include eliminating roadside crosses to commemorate a state troopers death.
Why does the first principle of a policy document by a political party reference God as the source of our liberty? Well, for one, our nation’s document of political independence was founded on this principle and it is not insignificant that 80% of Americans believe in God. But the fundamental reason is regardless of what your view of God may be, or even your belief in God per se, it excludes other men from inventing “greater goods” designed to limit your liberty. Government does not provide us with the right to liberty; man comes pre-born with those rights. At least that is the founding principle of our nation. Nazism and Communism, the two greatest forces for totalitarian evil in the 20th century, were explicitly atheistic and limited or even outlawed the practice of religion. That is not a coincidence.
Point five states that certain truths are self evident. Why is this necessary? It is necessary because relativism permits all forms of injustice. So prohibition of murder cannot be considered a restraint of liberty, though such arguments are implicitly and explicitly made today by Islamic terrorists. Certain forms of government are self evidently better than others. If one class of humans (for example, women) are explicitly second-class citizens in Saudi Arabia, it is self evident such a system is inferior to ours, even if their rationale is “religious” in origin. When Obama advisor Cass Sunstein supports legal rights for animals, he is self evidently absurd. Humans are superior to animals. Moral relativism is the doorway to hell. The gradual erosion of the founding principles of our nation is the direct result of moral relativism.
Noonan is correct in her analysis of the public’s mood. Voters will be judging if the Republicans are worthy successors. First principles matter. From them are derived policies. I recommend reading McCotter’s short pamphlet. He is a serious guy and this is a necessary document. I don’t expect perfection from politicians or political parties. But one should demand an attempt at honest and coherent government consistent with the principles that have sustained this nation for over 200 years.

The Republicans as a group have been swayed by the media and donors into attempting a more progressive approach. They have been told that's what the people want, when it is not. Their losses over the last two election cycles prove this. The Democrats have the progressive vote in the bag already. The people need a real alternative, not progressive-lite.
It all sounds very well and good but look to their past voting record. It is just that simple, if they vote as a liberal work as hard as you can for a conservative replacement. There is no reason to keep liberals in office when the democrats represent that ideology.
It shouldn't matter what "party" a candidate is with. It should matter what that candidate stands for.
I would happily vote for Democrats, if I knew that they wouldn't use the Constitution as a doormat to their backroom deals. The same goes for Republicans. We the people will not be made fools of any longer. And the more obvious that message is, the better off we the people will be in being able to select a candidate that is worthy of a vote. No more shall we just vote for the lesser of two evils…NO way! Give me liberty or give me somebody else that is worthy of representing the principles that founded this country, and have made it the great country it once was…
Good article, but I don't see the need to use the term "quasi-Socialist." That's like calling a corpse "quali-dead." It is what it is. POR (the Pelosi/Obama/Reid axis of evil) is, through and through, Socialist. It's how they long to rule the America for which they have so much contempt.
If they don't change their liberal ways they won't be fit to govern.
We will see if words are followed by action. It has been a long time since I have called myself a republican, and never again will I officially allign myself with a party. Too often I felt like nothing more than a funding source. People are really waking up and won't be led like sheep any longer – we see that even with registered democrats switching partys in tomorrow's vote in Massachusetts. This (We The People) train is picking up speed.
Republicans that understand and seek to impliment the feelings and views of last summer and last falls Tea Party pricipals will be worthy of leadership.
The cardigan sweater and pipe Nelson Rockefeller "moderate Republicans" seeking to "go along to get along" will fail.
There is a real chance to transform our body politic, to bend it back toward elected officials that are beholding to the PEOPLE and not special interests "wining and dining" politicians out of their vote. Lobbyists of all stripes are pimps, the Congress needs to cease being whores.
Don't try to defend the GOP on grounds of anti-government and national sovereignty or security WHEN:
They tripled the size of government in 8 years under Bush
They refused to close the borders after being attacked by immigrants
Refused to kick out the illegals – were prepared to even give them amnesty until having to be told clearly NO by the American people (should have never come to that)
Act like the stereotypical Big Business sell outs by allowing H1B visa holders in the US when people are out of work
Give bailouts to bankers – totally unacceptable
Allow this country to be destroyed on some flimsy theory of "FREE TRADE" that has NEVER worked and always ends up impoverishing the nation.:
…and worst of all….
Acts like Israel is their master – a nation that murdered Americans on the USS Liberty, committed false flag terrorism against the US in the Lavon Affair, continues to EMBRACE terrorism and their terrorist past, has an illegal WMD program, contiues to steal land while we pay them welfare, etc…. This makes us unsafe by making enemies we would otherwise not have. We gain nothing for this.
Peggy Noonan is a hack; not to mention a bitter woman, who went more than a little nuts, when President Bush didn't hire her as a speech writer…….which she irrationally believed was her due. And THAT is why and the ONLY reason why she rants against the entirety of the GOP. Well that and the fact that she is no longer ( hasn't been for quite a while now ) welcome on FNC or any right leaning radio talk shows.
She's not even that good a writer; her speeches for Reagan were far too flowery and the only one anybody even vaguely remembers is the one that Reagan gave when the Challenger exploded, which was tweaked and somewhat changed by Reagan, himself and another speech writer.
Why on earth should anyone take her as some kind of "authority"/pay any kind of attention to what she has to say, since her judgment is so demonstratively pathetic and stupid ?
Republicans would do well to challenge openly all things government not adhering to the Constitution. They could start with the obvious and be labeled by the established media as just anti Obama -OR- they could begin a drum beat about the McDonald versus Chicago case and what it means to Liberty. They could fight for the 14th amendment the way their party did so long ago, thus proving they are ready to lead once again.
After that case is decided, and they have been openly espousing the Constitution itself, over the judicial activism that subverts it, then they could hammer the Democrats for their Unconstitutional ways regarding health care banking and just about everything else they come up with.
Republicans have to prove something to the people of this country – That they actually stand for the REPUBLIC and the Constitutional boundaries that must be observed, respected and defended. If they don't, then they don't deserve any controlling majority.
Very true – "Dem Light" isn't a strategy or even a bad beer, it's a formula for failure.
Gentle Readers,
Republicans have made plenty of mistakes, but before our ' wrong direction ' Congress was elected in 2006
unemployment under Republicans was brought down to less than 5%, the budget was on the way to being
balanced, and we were having fewer terror attacks here in the USA.
Bottom Line: Republicans are imperfect, but much, much better!!
Kindest Regards to all,

GOP is a dinosaur as well, people seem to forget "We the People" have had it with all of them. The incumbents on both sides must go. Many repubs in office think a sweep is coming that will put them in power not realizing they too are in the crosshairs of the people. Term limits must be put in place should the People be successful in electing new blood into office. Your candidate regardless of party should be for term limits, if they arent you should not vote for them. Its the progressives in DC not the parties, the progressives have camouflaged themselves as Rep/Dem they are the threat, they are the head of the 2 faced 1 party system!
The vid I put up is dem dominant only b/c the dems are in power, rest assured if what we are seeing today was repubs it would be centered on them. But more importantly Pat Cadells comment should make it clear as he directs it toward members of both parties that the people are coming for them!
Your playing their game… STOP and play your game through Saving the Republic
To the GOP insiders: Get in, sit down, shut up, hang on. We're driving the bus now.
Signed, Tea Party participant
I'm burned out on GOP Criticism. They have always disappointed me since 1994.
Thanks to the author here. My sentiments exactly:
"I had grown weary of many of Ms. Noonan’s commentaries. Her support for Obama was predicated on an obvious misunderstanding of his politics, nature, and ideology. But her implicit challenge to the GOP is spot on"
I used to respect Ms. Noonans opinions; I no longer do.
I do agree that the GOP has yet to show me much, nor has she.
Perhaps Ol' Peggy's day has passed, and she should be relegated into the masses of "the chattering class". There are alot of RINO's that should join her. They could all sign up for a Relief Mission, and build affordable housing in Haiti……….
Can we come out of the closet now and admit it? I am a Goldwater Republican. Now that's out of the way. If we had to vote again between Obama and McCain, it would still be a lousy choice. But under no circumstances could I ever vote for someone who openly said to a man's face, we're gonna sread the wealth around and it's a good thing. Nor could I vote for anyone who called Bill Ayers a friend, and together frittered away 150 million dollars. Or vote for a man who said he wasn't aware of the awful things his mentor said every week at church. Who wrote his own autobiography before he was 35. What's to tell?? No, I'd vote for McCain, not happily, but he'd get my vote by default. Same for Brown in MA. He's not all that conservative, if you are from Texas. But he is fin MA. And he seems to have a decent moral compass for "thepeople's seat" Let's start there to rebuild the Party. It's a far sight better than banning Catholics from working in the ER as Martha would.
yup
Really, Peggy Noonan, who can really trust her to do her job? She of all people would not be credible to question Republicans. I suggest she spend less time picking the cinder out of the Republican's eyes and get the board out of her own. Ronald Reagan would be apalled at her inside the beltway twirl….
So get on the bus and help drive the GOP in the right direction! Stop sitting on the sidelines whining about it.
As long as politicians see themselves as separate and special from the rest of us; they ALL can go straight to hell. I am not bound by party. I follow prudent character.
Peggy Noonan? Place her on the ash heap next to Powell.
"Misguided" my ass! Too much time on the Manhatten cocktail circuit is more like it.
Peggy Noonan is an idiot. When O's "redistribution" radio comment from 2001was revealed before the election, his agenda and ideology became patently clear. And so, for her to supposedly understand–and I would think she would being Reagan's speechwriter–what the "redistribution" code meant, and then continue to support him, makes anything she would say suspect.
However, your point is well-taken: have the Republicans learned their lesson? My gut is, they haven't yet. Just as Krauthammer has often said the Democrats overread their mandate from 2008, if Brown wins tomorrow–and I'mnot convinced he will; after all, Hoffman was ahead in the polls in NY-23–I'm betting the Republicans will overread that.
We’ll see! Washington, right and left, has made promises to the tune of 55Trillion in un-funded mandates, pending on who you ask. We must make it abundantly clear to Washington that this is unacceptable, and if they don’t begin to shrink government, we’ll get rid of them. To correct this mess will require long term vigilance, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, and so on. A RINO is as insidious as any Democrat these people need to be identified and voted out. That being said let’s use some Reagan logic, to paraphrase, “a man who believes with me 80% of the time is an ally.” A purity test would be suicide, a third party would be a Perot redo. We’ll see, we’re watching know.
You have some valid points. There you go again, being right twice a day………
……….and as usual, there you go again, running off the reservation on your Jew tangent…………
BANG!
You just hit the nail on the head. She is a bitter shrew of a woman. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned….
SO, let's see, you're happy with what we have now? Working well for you is it? How's your good buddies Iran, Syria, Hezbollah, Hamas, AlQaeda….And the new Socialism with the Maoists in the White House?
Liking that too? You must have a job. And probably sittin pretty as part of the half that don't pay taxes, legally. Amnesty? it's coming. The great O is bringing it. This year, befor Nov 2010. Count on it. Tell me again what's …worst of all…
For as long as the GOP continues to ostracize true liberty loving, constitutional conservatives at the state level, nothing will change and we will continue to have a single, 2-wing, big govt party. In GA the leadership went so far as to change the rules the night before the 2008 state convention to silence the dissent in advance. All GOP leadership will need to be replaced before anything significant can happen. Otherwise, we can ride this election cycle see-saw into eternity. Have the Republican learned from their recent expulsion due to bad policy? I doubt it.
Sure. I'll get right onto that with the Chicago Republican power base here.
I would like to say to the winners of the 2010 elections: Put up or shut up, but sadly, they are going to do neither….
I don't "trust" Peggy Noonan!
Thanks, Cowboy.
I have been saying this for many years now. At first others would hammer me, but the scales began to fall from their eyes, as time passed, and now everyone ( at least I hope it's everyone ) can see just who and what old Peggy really is.
Right out of the bat, she went after President Bush, tooth and nail, for having the gall to mention GOD during his first inaugural speech.
By the time she was avidly rooting for Obama, I think that finally the last straw hit the backs of every right leaning person who had ever heard of her.
Finally, a voice of treason!
BRAVO; well done !
Umm… every county has a GOP committee. Get involved. Make your voice hear at the local level. With enough people doing that, the national party will have no choice but to listen to you.
There was/is a Chicago GOP base……………..it just gets subsumed by the Daley machine and ACORN; however, we did manage tio get Reagan elected president, twice.
Peggy Noonan is quite the "Progressive" ol gal, eh?
yes, stop being honest. You're making the republican hacks here very uncomfortable.
Peggy, an aged, simpering coquette, is long past her "prime".
She believes herself to be "better than everyone else", but isn't and didn't go to an Ivy League school; though she pretends that she is a part of the aristocracy. Pathetically, she swings wildly between a flirty Catholic school girl and a supposed "sophisticate"; being neither.
Nor is she a political "insider"; no matter how hard she pretends to be.
On balance there is little difference between the parties. Two slightly differently packaged forms of statism. Ever hear of "New World Order?" What President used that term?
The great O is bringing it.
You know, if the GOP had done ONE thing, embrace Ron Paul, Obama would not be in the White House.
People like YOU chose Amnesty and gun control and socialized medicine IF you could still have your wars for Israel in the Middle East. Shows your priorities.
How do I 'block' this dope – hurts my eyes to see his name and know what the post will be.
She was a pretty stalwart supporter of Bush for most of his term, so I think your thesis is poppycock. She got disgusted with Bush and the GOP toward the middle of the second term largely for their abandonment of conservative fiscal principles and the enormous growth of government under their watch. And she seemed to lose the faith (wrongly) about the Iraq war.
Noonan's real slip up was her support of Obama. I disagree with Michael Rulie about Noonan's supposed realization of her error in supporting Obama. She still seems to think he's a terribly smart, nice young man with moderate sensibilities who just doesn't know how to present himself right, and who has somehow inexplicably (to her) permitted himself to be drawn to the left. She has never admitted her gross error in judgment about Obama's true nature, an error that appears to continue to this day.
While I cannot stand the Pelosi and Reid tandem and would not defend their approach to governance, to imply that they have 'so much contempt' for America and are 'evil' is typical of the Fox News trend of pushing fear over facts. If you feel that as 'America' we are of perfection and cannot ever be a better nation than you are delusional. We are not a perfect nation, but we are the best nation on the planet. As for the standard 'socialism' term that you 'water the tree of liberty' types love to throw around… a question for you… do you have car insurance or health insurance? If so, then you are contributing to a socialist program.
There are good and bad in both parties; however, we all know, or should know by now, that there aren't any "conservative", or "moderate" Dems; they will all vote, in lockstep, for whatever cockamamie SOCIALIST tripe some other Dem proposes.
Have the GOPers made mistakes, gone down the wrong path, at times? Of course they have, but never to the extent.that Dems do.
Humans are imperfect. If you are going to be amongst the damned UNAPPEASEABLES, then the ONLY thing you are going to get is Dem rule in perpetuity.
That idiotic "I'LL VOTE FOR THE MAN, NOT THE PARTY" is a line that only a political naif can make. The reality is, no matter the party, every Congress critter is beholden to his/her party; though a few sometimes stray and it's usually a GOPer.
We all rail against RINOS, but the fact is, there are some states where even just a down the road centrist righty can not be elected,so we have to put up with a few. WHY? Because in both Houses, it the numbers; stupid! One party has the majority and the majority makes the rules; at least that is true for the Dems.
We don't have a parliamentary system ( THANKS TGO OUR BRILLIANT FOUND FATHERS ! ), so fringe party candidates will NEVER be able to get any leverage and voting for one is ALWAYS a truly stupid move! It's also patently ridiculous to vote for a Dem, who out conservatives the GOPer, during the race.
There are two supposed "Independents" in Congress………………….Bernie Sanders, whose comes right out with it and tells everyone that he's a SOCIALIST and Joe LIEberman, who said outright, whilst running as an "Indie" that he was a DEMOCRAT Independent. Both caucus and vote with the Dems, with LIEberman rarely voting with the GOPers on military stuff.
Lemme see…..Are they Worthy?.
IF I could go to the Senate, and then the House, I could eliminate 90% of the trouble makers from BOTH Parties.
As for the GOP being WORTHY…
Heavens above, after BARELY a year of Obama's Reign of Terror- Error's..how in the hades could they do worse?.
I'd vote for almost anyone without a "D" behind their names, NEWSFLASH< THIS IS NOT your Father's Democratic Party.
Part 2
The Pomposity, arrogance, Ego Maniacal shenanigans of this crew in the Majority is almost beyond comprehension………….basically they have said to hell with the american people's wishes.
Something we are witnessing in the MA Race.
Add a dash of Commie/Fascist CZAR's, and a POTUS doing his dead level best to DESTROY the Republic. Economically, Constitutionally, and Taxation past the graves of the next three generations, to support them…
Why do you have to even ASK THIS question.
At least I have never seen a GOP POTUS running around the Globe apologizing for HOW terrible America is.Isn't that what Chavez does?.
BTW, I am an "Independent",
But, if push came to shove, at least I think the GOP would not turn us into a FASCIST state.
IF your honest, and look around, read, follow this POTUS proposals, and what's already been done..you must conclude that is his agenda.
If you do not see it…….grab a Websters.
You're 100% wrong! I suggest that you do a search and read all of her articles from the start of W's two terms and try to find any YouTube videos, that might be out there and refresh your faulty memory.
She raged against President Bush's use of GOD in his inaugural speech, put him down every single chance she had, claimed, on Sean Hannity's radio show, very late in the game ( late summer of '04 ) that she was taking time off from her "job" to work for him…………………of which there is NO evidence whatsoever.
She has been on the WRONG side of every single position the Bush/Cheney team ever took and that began almost from the moment the election of 2000 was over.
The last straw, proving what a blithering idiot she is, is her continued support for Obama, the man.
Wow. You managed to mix Ron Paul, Bush, the problem with jews, to the hell with the GOP, gun control, Jews (again), Amnesty, Jews (can't mention them too many times),terrorism, socialized medicine, New World Order and Jews….. all into one rant. Without breaking a sweat or making a bit of sense!
That's got to be like bowling 300, batting .400 or better yet…. hitting a 10 team parlay in Vegas.
That's a Troll Hall of Fame highlight reel!
As an ex-Republican, my answer is, "Not unless they all turn into Tea Partyers." Boehner, Cantor, Sessions and Gingrish all demonstrated this when they endorsed Dede Scozzafava in New York, and previously endorsed Arlen Specter over Pat Toomey in PA in 2008. These guys are still clueless but can be saved with a lot of remedial education..
Snip "…The Democrat Party’s “40 year majority” will come to a close 38 years early"
Kind of like the 1000 year Reich, and doomed to the same, can't wait to see the donkey explode atop both houses, LMAO…
Misunderstood.
Code word for Pro Obama pundits that means, " I was mixing pain medication with my scotch and had no idea what I was thinking or doing but I feel much better now since the treatment and as long as I go to my therapy you can believe me again."
"Honest……………."
You seem to be hallucinating. See any fnords?
Maybe she should apply for Gibb's job. Couldn't do worse.
I trust the republicans no further than I can throw them. The only problem is that I agree with with the principle they allegedly espouse on TV.
I am willing to bet money they will get in power and revert to exactly the sort of behavior that put Obama in power in the first place.
I DONT WANT TO HEAR ONE WORD ABOUT JESUS UNTIL THE DEBT THEY INCURRED IS GONE!
Very well said.
Israel has been around for thousands of years. You will be gone very soon. What does that say for your negative contribution to society? Nada. Zip.
Just like in every country, there are the good and the bad. Don't paint all of Israel with the same brush.
Thank you, copper…. I normally refrain from getting too cerebral as the messgae may be lost on many. I DO thank you…. The expressed purpose (as YOU know) was to sound an alert.. NOT to our compatriots but to the old guard country clubbers who smoke the cigars and plan our future..no more ! Thank you again !
There is nothing that the GOP has done for more than a decade (beginning with the Clinton impeachment) that gives me any indication that there is hope for its future. A total lack of responsibility, just like Obama and his gang of ultra partisans. After having voted almost total GOP since 1968, I stopped voting in 2002. I'll hold my nose to vote GOP next time to stop the Obama madness, but really, it's not much worse than the GOP.
I want to hear about fiscal responsibility. I want to be persuaded that the GOP has learned it's lesson in this regard, though I'll still be skeptical. I don't want to hear anything about social issues or immigration.
There is a reason that the Tea Party polls with better favorabilities than either "major" (read "minor") party.
Amen! I have been telling family and friends this for more than 3 years.
Four points out of a possible six. The bailouts were necessary due to VERY BAD behavior by the government in the first place, and free trade would work if it were actually free. The concept is good, the practice is horribly distorted and doesn't deserve the name. I think Cowboy is giving you a little too much credit though…
He can't help himself, but it does account for his popularity!
That pamphlet is a fine start. But I will only give the Republicans the credibility I hope for (I am one, more or less) when the endless mailings and phone calls from "the party" stop with their "We're not those horrible Democrats, send money!!!", and start with one or more of those positive principles and – SINCERELY – expound on why it's worth governing by.
And when that shift in their solicitations occurs, I'll stop my current habit of including a one-dollar bill along with my own suggested list of positive principles, and make a contribution.
"You know, if the GOP had done ONE thing, embrace Ron Paul, Obama would not be in the White House."
Why? Would he have shot him?
Wait, I know – he would have found BHO's original birth certificate and we would all know that he's not a Muslim- he's really a JEW!
Elect 'em first so the media has to unleash their most hellish and biased attack on a party in POWER that can enact policies that people can compare to the trash being said about them. If they don't $#!T their pants and stand on principle we will vote for them a second time. ON PROBATION until further notice!
But the issue is the same. The problem with the republican party is that they want to "please the media and the democrats, instead of voting on principal. Back in 1976 and 1980 when Reagan narrowly lost to Gerry Ford in the primary and then waxed Jimmuh Caster's a$$ inn 1980, the Republican elites did not want the "conservative unwashed" in charge in the party, let alone actually leading. So while it is expedient for us to "hijack the bus" this time around, when the elections are through, it's time to change the name and focus of the party and then let the republicans decide whether they want to stay or not. If they want to go, good ridance.
We can demand accountability from them. I'm sorry but this document we're discussing is nothing but sentimentality wrapped up in a package designed to lull us into bovine dreams.
We need a PLEDGE that stipulates that no elected republican legislator or executive may engage in deficit spending or allow it to go unopposed on penalty of instant expulsion from the party with no chance of reinstatement.
Who are we kidding here? Do you think we can trust these guys? These clowns and thieves are what got us Obama and they STILL DONT GET IT.
You want smaller government? Where are the budget cuts?
Your very welcome. All those RINO suits will be saved in Madame Tussaud's historical closet smelling of cigar smoke. Yes, we are living in an awakening time but it won't be as easy as we all think. Maybe it will up to the next generation to make this country great again, I don't know but it's exciting to see Patriots finally waking up. History does repeat itself, doesn't it? George Washington was clairvoyent.
If you read the article, which you didn't, you'll note that the article writer is praising a select group of Republicans and addressing Noonan's points. So, here's some advice for you — 1) stay on topic and 2) read the article.
No man spends $2 million dollars to hide something that's not incriminating.
"She has never admitted her gross error in judgment about Obama's true nature"
And how could she not get that POTUS is not an entry level position? (well McCain was the other guy) Good grief.
precisely.
I like the third party idea. Ralph Nader gave us GWB, so some turnabout would be fair play.
I agree with you jimb. The tea party should rise up and demand that all Republicans pass a membership test. Those found to be unfit should not be allowed in the party and eventually there will be nothing but dittoheads. What could go wrong?
Well, they sure look nice in their very expensive suits. I just hope the suits are not empty !
I don't know how you filter out unsavory opinions on this blog. It could be that as long as they abide by the terms of service they have just as much right to speak out as anyone. Darn inconvenient if you ask me.
I'll bet they don't get away with saying anything they want in Iran or N. Korea.
Never considered the possibility that he could be a closet Jew… hiding in Muslim clothing, and attending Christian churches. Obama may be the smartest man in the history of the world (part I)!
I've never liked her either. She's whiny and tries to walk too fine a line to avoid offending either side.
" Republicans that understand and seek to implement the feelings and views of last summer and fall's Tea Party Movement's principals will be worthy of leadership. "
I agree, but, there is always a but isn't there, they need to believe in the CONSTITUTION as it was written. Not in feelings or sentiment.
You do know that the Democrats won paper slim majorities in 2006 and Bush was still there to veto anything he didn't like, don't you? So when the housing bubble burst and the financial markets melted down in 2008, it was not because the Republicans had us on the right path. Quite the opposite. They had set us up to fail and it was just a matter of when. Bush tried to ride it out and he almost made it. But then the bottom fell out and the policies of deregulation and tax cuts for the rich were exposed.
Peggy Noonan is more interested in going to cocktail parties than the future of this country. No conservative in their right mind would have ever EVER voted for Obama. He laid out in print what he was in both of his books. Maybe Noonan should have read those books instead of yuking it up with Washington's elitist snobs.
Why do you socialist hate Jews so damn much? Did a Jewish person mock your paintings too?
I'm betting that prudent character is always a Republican. You are not fooling anyone.
The new tea party standard is a 98 percent ally. Like brother Bush said, if you aren't with us you are against us.
Usually a GOPer? You must be watching a different congress than I am. The only folks I see voting against their party are Democrats. Republicans are like robots… even the Republicans from Maine can't buck their party.
Ross Perot gave us Bill Clinton. We've been there done that.
There's no "bozo" button here. Actually, most right of center sites don't haves one.
The only recourse given here, is the "REPORT BUTTON".
Congressman McCotter we know you, you one of the good guys. Your iniative in authoring this 'GOP RESPONSE' is indeed laudable I have read it three times now and I it is truly an excellent start. I'm sure all the Rebublicans in the nation will be pleased as well.
Parties get into trouble when they:
Overreach
Act arrogantly
Forget whose money it is they are spending
Forget who they work for
Think they know what is best for us when we tell them differently
Underestimate the power of anger
Yes, she's often very whiny; I agree.
They must be having a snowball fight in Hell…………….we agreed on something. ;^)
Good comment, 1redcent.
Noonan can write, but she long ago grew arrogant and vapid due to her oh-so intellectual and increasingly leftist leanings.
"After all, it was a Republican administration which brought us bailouts, supported expansionary and unsustainable housing policies, expanded domestic spending, proposed an immigration policy as unpopular as the Democrat’s current Health Care Bill and made “earmarks” a household name."
I find that particular comment more than a little troubling. There is record after record of the republican party trying to stop these trainwrecks BEFORE they occurred only to have their efforts thwarted at every angle by the self-destructive democrats who continued to reiterate that the sky was not falling (there are way too many democrats in too many videos stating these facts, just google Maxine Waters, Franklin Raines, Barney Frank or any of the clowns truly responsible for this mess and you will see for yourself).
What will be truly interesting is Coakley's comments if she loses. Will they blame THAT on Bush, too?
I support what you say right up until I am presented with a lib-light Republican and Conservative third party candidate. On some things you need to stand on principle and that is one. If Reps keep losing because the Conservative sheers off the votes, it should send a message and it's also why NY 23 wasn't so big a deal. Hopefully, it sent a huge message.
Thanks, Reader and I think that you did quite well, calling her "vapid"; which is what she quickly became, losing the speech writer gig. And yes, she was let go, she didn't leave of her own account.
Wrong, as always, barbarian.
tell that to all the grahams in the gop, who have all the money and power. Register unaffiliated and fight back for they will not listen until they are forced.
They can’t win without party members and as long as you stay a party member they will always call you fringe and laugh. and win.
Game, set and match; well done!
why do parties always blame someone else for their failings? Kerry and gore and the party system gaves GWB.. and thus it was your fault.
Bad politicians and party politics gave you clinton not perot
Free trade would work very well if there was a free market global economy. Failure of free trade rests not with our supposed capitalist system (I say supposed because the government is so entwined, I'm not sure if it's exactly that nowadays), but with the government-run systems of other societies. It's like the UN. Great idea in theory except that teaching a bunch of tin-pot dictators parliamentary procedure doesn't make them deal as free and open nations, nor does it free their societies. It only makes them good at exploiting the rules of the game.
