Winfrey/Palin Was No Frost/Nixon
by Michael S. Rulle Jr.Everything about Sarah Palin is magnified, as the current book tour demonstrates. The book was number one the day it appeared for sale on Amazon. All public figures have a larger than life appearance, but it is far more pronounced with Palin. She is an almost unprecedented media phenomenon. Yet few present her as a truly serious person. Democrats attempt mockery and Republicans damn with faint praise. Those who themselves praise her strongly are cast in a similar light. The great paradox is, on the one hand, the media is driven to her like a moth to flame, yet, on the other hand, they treat her as if she were not worthy of all the attention.

This attitude comes from the same media which takes or has taken Nancy Pelosi, Al Gore, John Kerry, John Edwards, Jon Corzine, and Joe Biden seriously. Admittedly, these are low hurdle comparisons, but that is exactly the point. Yet, to anyone who looks beyond the superficial coverage, it is obvious that Palin knows exactly what image she wishes to portray. Sarah Palin may or may not be a legitimate presidential candidate, (she is, in my opinion); her tactics on this book tour may or may not be helpful regarding future political ambitions (remains to be seen); but she is completely and naturally in command of herself. Yet this seemingly goes unobserved and flies in direct contradiction to the dominant narrative.
While Oprah was completely polite and respectful in her questioning, she seemed a little tense and self conscious. I don’t watch Oprah, so I have no baseline to compare this interview, but my hunch is this is not her norm. On the “stage right” chair was a cheerful, perfectly at ease Sarah Palin. On the “stage left” chair was a vaguely uneasy and a little bit austere Oprah.
The questions covered much familiar territory; the Katie Couric interviews, the insider leaks by the McCain camp after the election, her daughter’s pregnancy, Levi Johnston, her future political aspirations, and even whether Palin was considering a talk show, (which Palin did not explicitly deny). Few answers were surprising, although the story on Bristol Palin’s pregnancy was new to me. The image given by the media then was as if her pregnancy were a surprise to the McCain camp. Thus began the unprecedented and repulsive media distortion of Sarah Palin (remember when Bristol was supposed to be the real mother of Trig?). But not only did the McCain camp know, they knew before they called her to interview.
Palin came off very clearly as the understated but definitive alpha female during the interview. Palin was very relaxed and subtly played the “alpha female” card when she would refer to her host as “Oprah” during several responses. When all was said and done, she accomplished what she wanted. She received exposure and made no news. She had no intention to make news on Oprah or Barbara Walters.
The Coming Media and Book Blitz
Democrats have always had Palin derangement syndrome, but it has lessened as they fear her less. This is because the GOP is now conflicted on how or whether to support her. The Winfrey interview will change no one’s opinion; hence it was disappointing to some Republicans. What some Republicans want from Palin—at least those who don’t want her to simply go away—is “Frost/Nixon–Part 4″. What they want is a “confession” and an admission that she has not yet proven herself worthy, but that she will get working on it pronto. She needs to confess to all her “flaws”. She must show the public she can stop “blaming” others. She must get “educated on the issues” and not just rely on her idiot savant skills of crowd pleasing rhetoric. She must stop lowering herself by obsessing over her critics. If she does this, then maybe people like David Brooks and Peggy Noonan will like her. (To be fair, a few politicians and commentators I respect also do not want her around).
Brooks, Noonan and their ilk will never like Sarah Palin. Barack Obama can be made a fool of by the Olympic Committee; bow before Saudi Kings; get spun around by Khomeini; speak in non-sequitur precision about jobs “created or saved” in a rising unemployment market; clownishly believe in the imperative of preventing apocalyptic climate change; think that adding a multi-trillion dollar health care entitlement will create jobs; try an illegal combatant in civilian court in the city of the worst act of foreign war in US history; permit the First Lady to shut down traffic around the White House for hours once a week so she can buy fresh Tuscan kale at a “whole foods” market; say there are 57 states and ask Iowans whether they have noticed the price of arugula lately, support the Mullahs in Iran when they were killing protesters in the street, call Hugo Chavez “mi amigo” with an elbows down arm lock; agree with both Cuba and “mi amigo” in supporting ousted Honduran leftist president Manuel Zelaya; and try to disenfranchise and silence Fox News and other media critics——etc., etc..
Obama can do all of this, but our media will never say Obama is unqualified because he needs to “get educated on the issues” or needs to “stop obsessing about his critics”. Some may call him mistaken, but none dare call him dumb. This double standard passes no test of sanity. Nor has Obama had to defend his 12 year old against Letterman rape jokes (or if she were 18 either); but if he had we would not be seeing Letterman on television ever again. Does anyone seriously not believe this?
Well, if those Obama policies are nuanced and smart, then I prefer my presidents blunt and dumb. There is zero doubt—like “absolute” zero—that Palin would not be or would not have been on the opposite side of every single one of those issues. So what exactly does she need to be educated about? She complains about her critics. What a shock she complained about Letterman. To say nothing would have been weird. The McCain camp went nuclear on her within one week of the election. This was unheard of. Yet our wise pundits say she should keep quiet. Doesn’t anyone remember what was said? They blamed her for the loss due to Diva behavior.
And “no”, she should not “confess her sin” of the Couric interview. She has admitted it went wrong. That’s quite enough. When we see all 9 hours of the taping, then we can talk about confession. Nixon had 22 minutes of missing tape and hundreds of hours of recorded tape. Couric had 22 minutes of interview and 9 hours of missing tape.
I am pretty sure she will not get hosed by the likes of Couric again. Speaking of Nixon, he was supposedly dead and buried after his loss to Pat Brown for the Governor of California in 1962. So comebacks are not uncommon at all. Palin has lost her broad public support according to the polls. But that is because she has been off stage as the critics remain on stage. She is back on stage now. If the Oprah show is an indicator, she looks pretty relaxed to me. One thing is for sure, she is a force and she knows it.
I realize life is complex and it’s easy to get confused. But the media should know by now that Tina Fey is an actress who stars on a mediocre NBC comedy, 30 Rock. She is not, as much as our genius pundits seem to think it so, the actual, you know, real Sarah Palin.

Tina Fey was the number one problem for Palin, and of that fact Fey's well aware. It was her stated hopeful intention to help McCain and Palin lose the election.
Most of the public identifies the statements of Tina Fey ("I can see Russia from my house") as being from Sarah Palin.
Sarah is helping herself greatly by being so prominent right now. That way ordinary people can recognize the difference between Palin and Tina Fey.
Michael,
thank you. An excellent article!
When thinking of Sarah Palin, words such as family, honesty, honour and integrity come to mind. Now apply those same words to the current cabal of charaters in the halls of power, and see if you an apply it to them without breaking into hysterical fits of laughter.
Palin, like her or not, is the real deal. A genuine article. There is nothing more that threatens phonies and condesending academics, than authenticity.
"There is nothing more that threatens phonies and condescending academics, than authenticity."
Amen.
What bothers the Hollywood elite is her honesty and down to earth connection she has with America. I would rather have coffee with Sarah Palin then attend a political event with Pelosi.
This is NOT really a book tour. This is a statement – loud and clear — being made by Palin that she will be a force — maybe THE force — in American politics come 2012. What is said or not said by Palin and her interviewers during this foray is not nearly as important as the shear NUMBERS of people turning out for the events…
All I can say about the MSM and the Left, "Methinks the lady doth protest too much…"
Sarah scares the crap out of them, because she resonates with the average person in this country. She is outside the beltway, the Ivy League crowd, not a Lawyer, and she is earthy. Someone people can look to and trust much like Reagan

out of all her interviews so far (yes I've watched them all) I think her interview with Gretta was the best …. you could feel her passion for the military in her voice. I know she has a son fighting this war but she was really good on her answers. she still flutters at times and I think it because she wants to "really say what's on her mind" but then pulls back… This is the #1 reason I could not run…
I would tell most of America to suck it up and move on and fire 50% of government workers…. There would be no PC'ness for this guy…
Mom was a watress for over 30 yrs (bars, clubs, restarants)
Dad was 24yrs USN + two side jobs (one cleaning toliets) – saw him so so .. he lived on/off two carriers !!!
raised 6 kids and none in prision !!!!
never on welfare (I'll admit she did put us on reduced meals at school) she wanted to see if they would appove us and BAM they did !!! She was amazed !!!
I guess it's because we were white we got all those perks !!!
sorry forgot to say "This is why I like her" she is just like me… "Suck it up attitude" – this is what I teach my kids !!!
You are absolutely correct.
sarah is the real deal. she also knows how many states we have. how can obambi think we have 57.
This administration and the media get all "we-wee-ed" up ( to quote TOTUS) when it comes to Palin. Righteousness and truth will always surface as a breath of fresh air, while corruption will always smell like a sewer. Palin represents "we the people" and this un-nerves the eilte and all the facitious scumbags that have hijacked our country. I am amazed that Oprah extended such a warm welcome to her because the two "O's" are tighter than fleas on a dog. Thats in itself makes me wonder.
I read the book and was moved by her toughness and tenacity, fighting hard in a rugged part of the world mostly against men…and she prevailed. Awesome. I was surprised about the miscarrage because she never before talked about it, and it shows how she keeps things secret but yet, doesn't seem to want any sympathy, where other politicians might milk it…
and now I know why she was so PRO LIFE and thankful for the arrival of her youngest son……God works in mysterious ways. Gob Bless you Sarah.
You thinks it cause you were white that you got all the perks? I started out in life shoveling hoss poop, and still do. I do all the jobs that it beneath my employees doing. There is something to be said about humility.
Fortunately Sarah Palin is a "real" human and therefore she will make mistakes. Unfortunately President Obama is a "fake" god and therefore makes no mistakes. I'd rather deal with a human who makes mistakes than a god who makes none.
Like it on not Palin is the leader of the Republican Party, not the official head, but the leader Turns out this lady has more testosterone then all the men put together. And the men are taking notice of her huge following and starting to develop stones of there own. How refreshingt here!
Jordan,
You are right that Obama is a fake god. Idolatry is never good.
Well said Cowboy…….."Real" is the first word I always use when describing Sarah Palin…….as opposed to most politicians, pundits, journalists, academics and rabblerousers who are mostly "phony actors".
The America that exists between the coasts loves her because for the most part she is them.
These interviews over the past week have done wonders for Sara Palin. After each sucessive interview her strenghts and smarts are more and more evident. This drives the Lame Street Media even crazier so the attacks will get even worse. When you see Geraldine Ferraro, the elder stateswoman of the democrats looking like a bitter old woman when talking about Palin;you know that the democrats are running scared.
Sara Palin stands head and shoulders above any of the republicans that are looking to run in 2012.How she deals with the republican power brokers will speak volumes. And NY-23 was a power shot across their bows.
I always kind of liked shoveling horse poop! At the end of the day, I could see what I accomplished, unlike most jobs I've had!

Palin on O-pray Winfrey.
While I have never lowered myself to watch "The Big O", if Sarah would have bitch slapped her, for mistreating her back during the election (remember that rudeness?), or put her in a headlock, I'm sure I'd have bought the CD…
cowboy – we owned a lot of horses growing up … so I've done my share too.. I've stacked more hay that I ever want to touch again (field to barn)
When we first moved out of the city to some land all we had was a electric push mower .. well I compalined to my dad that we need something difernt because I couldn't reach the back acres – he said "Your right son"
He went out and purchased three more extension cords… True story !!!! "Suck it up son"
I love Sarah Palin because she is so real and genuine. She is a true representation for the common man, and the hard working families that make this country so great.
I'm now reading the book – I had to wait for it to be shipped because I bought it from Amazon when it was first announced. Wanted her numbers up! I'm enjoying reading it. I'm amazed at what she has accomplished so far and I'm amazed at Todd's life, too. Their early years together make for very interesting reading. I highly recommend you all read her book if you haven't. I know she had help writing the book, but it's definitely her voice, unlike Duh 1's tome.
In all actuality, that makes me one of the few people that is pre-eminitely qualified to deal with CONgress. Someone needs to shovel it out………
Oprah wasn't being vague or austere – she was being a snob. She no more likes Palin that Republicans like Obama. The only reason Oprah had Palin on was for 1) RATINGS BOOST – she lost viewers when she announced her support of Obama and her refusal to bring on Palin during campaign season and 2) she wanted to lecture those who had stated she was SNUBBING Palin by not bringing her own during the campaign season. This was all about Oprah being put in a good light and Sarah showing herself to be inconsequential as a candidate — someone who is a political celebrity with little political credibility on the National stage.
Oprah accomplished everything she wanted and it was only of benefit to herself.
"Well, if those Obama policies are nuanced and smart, then I prefer my presidents blunt and dumb."
I'll proceed to 'cut and paste' this quote infinitely.
I like the way Oprah always hugs people so you can't tell what dress size she is.
Sarah represents the changing tide in American culture … returning to that which is right, moral, and ethical. That in and of itself is both scary and infuriating to the left. Stay the course Sarah and speak your mind!
The left knows the real Sarah Palin, that's why they're so hell bent on ripping her to shreds at every turn. And yet, she keeps coming back like a prize fighter, taking the body the blows, throwing the counter punches. If she continues taking everything they throw at her, the tougher she'll become. If the presidency is her goal, by 2012 she'll be a hardened , well educated political verteran, then look out.
Do not concur. I would not welcome the leadership title of the Republican Party.
With all do respect to Zo we independents are not "lazy." If fact Zo if you want to come spend a day on a farm in the tropics then you would seriously reconsider your perspective of the "lazy" independent.
Sarah Palin is playing the cards like she doesn't need to win the pot. She doesn't. And that my friends makes her the most formidable 'wild card' and she should stay 'wild'…and sexy.
Republican Party? Isn't that an oxymoron.
You are absolutely correct.
I thought I was unique in being the only one who saw it that way. When asked to do the show, now, after the fact, Palin should have told The Big O to "KMA"!
Short and OH-SO-SWEET!!!!! Adam, you nailed it. Bless you and your family AND THE PALINS!!!
I voted, for the first time as a LEGAL American citizen, for Palin in '08 not for McCain. As a matter of fact, I cried when I found out that McCain was the Republican's choice. The only reason I voted was because I voted for Sarah Palin.
What size? BIG. Very big………
Just watch Palin clean their clocks with a Rope-a-dope……..!
There is a double entendre included therein.
She did put some shots in Opray's face that I caught toward the end of the interview. My wife broke inhouse tradition of not watching here drivel only cuz Sarah was on. She did good. I'm proud of her and have hope for our country that I probably wouldn't have right now with out her existance on the possible political horizon.
She had the biggest set on the last election, and still does.
I'll take a genuine person with strong beliefs that I think they will actually stand up for over an already established high up republican any day. The last thing I want to see is someone that already has major ties with special interests, lobbyists and Wall Street to end up winning the GoP ticket. It's still a long ways off though.
I tend to think a lot of the negativity from the right comes from the fact that she's not already in the republican "boys club" and when they refer to her lack of experience or knowledge, they're really referring to her lack of knowledge of "their rules". They know she doesn't have to play by them: she's already popular enough she can't be pushed around.
I have no idea how she'll present herself over the next 2 years, but she has more than enough time to get her personal approval ratings up. If she can stand up to the powers at the top of the GoP without any major slip ups, I wouldn't be surprised if she gets the nomination, and I don't think she'll have a problem holding independent votes vs. Obama.
We'll see.
Sarah Palin reminds the left too much of Ronald Reagan.
You feel good after hearing both of them speak .
When was the last time you felt good after hearing any liberal talk?

Sarah Palin oozes 'authenticity'. And like one of the previous contributors said…she's 'playing cards like she doesn't need to win', and for her ,that's really liberating. She isn't intimidated by Oprah, Bill O'Reilly or anyone else. She's comfortable in her own skin, and people see and appreciate that…driving elitist liberals crazy. She knows who she is, what she believes, and says so. You can't fake that….unless you're Obama, and have a support group, of 'enablers' on staff and in the main stream media stocking your teleprompter with an endless supply of Marxist crap every day.
Obama is a sound bite and Sarah is the real deal. She is giving voice to the American people that have not been heard. The BM's (Biased Media) really hate her ability to get that message out.
The present elected officials in Washington better start preparing for what’s coming in 2010 and 2012. You have lost the vision of what this country is about and who you work for. We want to make sure that there will be term limits set. You guys have been at our table too long.
Carry on Sarah; we need you more than ever before. And thank you for exposing yourself to their relentless attacks to get this message out.
True enough. The only thing I feel after a dose of 'Liberal-speak' is SICK!
Check out the article "The Wilding of Sarah Palin" @ Americanthinker.com AWESOME!!!!
exactly !!! also if I was asked about if what his name was coming over for thanksgiving .. "I'd say that's up to my daughter" if she doesn't wnat him over then … nope !!! He is the father of their child so he ill be in the picture now and then but if thsie child payments don't start soon he will loose all rights to the kid!!!
I'm from Wasilla, Alaska and avid Palin supporter as Mayor, Governor, and V.P. candidate. Watching Palin be deconstructed and the spawning of such an incredibly dishonest and false narrative in the national press was the single most discouraging thing in my politically aware existence. It represents the reason we have so many dirt bags in politics and so few 'real' people. Who would willingly submit themselves or their families to that other than the scummiest of dirt bags? Palin was swept into state office on a tide of populist sentiment with overwhelming bi-partisan approval, bearing witness to the disgustingly vitriolic partisan spectacle both here in Alaska and nation wide was an infuriating and near-to physically painful experience.
Being able to see just a small fraction of that turned around, and knowing that real people everywhere understand, at least to some extent that so much of that narrative is indeed false and dishonest, is something I'll only allow the most timid of optimism to arise from.
Someone said it well recently in national media, foreign policy etc, is something that can be taught. Common sense, honesty, decency, and clarity of vision on fundamental policy issues are things that speak to character, something you cannot teach. Palin has the courage of her convictions, something so many politicians, and so many of all of us lack sorely.
There is one line in the post above that stands out above anything:
"if those Obama policies are nuanced and smart, then I prefer my presidents blunt and dumb"
Bravo! I agree. The idea that it takes a Law degree to figure out these policy issues is another false narrative. All of these people in D.C. … all of these politicians, they're not better than us, they're not smarter than us, and they don't do any better of a job in D.C. than people like Palin would, another false narrative. I don't belive It takes a Harvard degree to do this work. The fundamental principle do not require rhoades scholars to disect. Those fundamental principles are what the Federal bodies should be focused on, not nuances. All you have to do is take a good look at the shape of things as they stand today, and realize where all the "super educated" and consequently under experienced "leaders" we have today have led us…… directly down the path of tyranny and the absence of liberty.
I wish we had 1000 Sarah Palins.
baby got back !!! back it up sista!!!!
Thanks for interesting comment. My take is that she is powerful, simply because she is a human being, of the kind we all at some time loved and admired. A real stand up lady, who stands up for that we in our hearts admire. Her mishaps during the campaign I completely write off as meeting a total unreal class of people, bordering on evil, and the great thing is that so many people looked through these vane self centered jerks.
I will say no ill about Oprah, she has deserved her success, and is in her own way real, but I once saw her and a friend interviewing an Amish couple. Here comes this billion dollar super star, but in my eyes this simple couple outshined both Oprah and her friend, just by being happy and real in their simple way of life. It’s the same way with Sarah Palin. The public is dam smart at times, they might know what America needs, to find back to the best in the nations rather short history.
I say this is a European; there are certain parts of America and Americans we admire. Once the great British actor Ben Kingsley appeared on a talk show in US, and he compared the British (could be European) and American attitudes. He spoke about the American spirit, the celebrations of success and true achievement, but with a true sense of community. Yes, solidarity with other people. He also expressed his appreciation for being able to come to America, and enjoy real success. Meeting people everywhere telling them how much they appreciated his work.
In Europe they will say, that Americans are selfish. Why, because they think a welfare system has anything thing to do with concern for your fellow man. It’s a rip off. We who know America from the inside, know that they show much more concern for their fellow man, neighbor then any other people. I simply think Palin represents the best in the American spirit; I felt it the very moment she appeared on the scene. A say God Bless America, and I hope you will come out of the current crises, and return to best in your system and people. We all depend on it.
I like Palin, but quitting her job was a huge mistake, at least politically. She will have to work very hard to overcome it. Good luck to her.
Good point. With liberals, it's a never-ending guilt trip just for being born (they would have aborted us if they could).
Army surplus parachute size.
The GOP folks who "don't want her around" are usually RINOs, because they correctly perceive Sarah as a threat; they are right. She is a threat to their mismanagement and dilution of the Republican brand. So McCain, his handlers, Noonan, and the rest of the washed-up, has-been, inside the beltway people just need to get out of the way, because their endless wasted words have done precisely nothing to change the culture. Noonan especially gets my goat.
You know, it took a Carter to get us a Reagon. I propheci that an Obama will get us a Palin.
did you listen to her response? hell i give her more credit than any in Congress running for office.. Do yo ever notice when the run they spend most of thier time on the road? Do you know they still get thier FULL pay? Then if they loose they can go back to thier job and didn't miss crap! I guess your happy with that?
Did yo see her talk about the lawsuits she was fighting – one was she was searing a jacket of snowmobile company while doing an interview so they thougth she was pushing the snowmobile !!!! WTF ?
She was "man" enough to say "I cannot do my job and try to fight all these lawsuits, it's not right to the people of Alaska….. again she is straight up !!
Obama and Biden and McCain didn't have the balls to say I quit the Senate and will run for President. (CATS!)
People can't handle that and we let Congress keep all their pay even though it is "kinda" aganist the law… (morales)
Every member in the House and the Senate gets an allotment (called a Members Representational Allowance in the House) which they can use to hire and pay staff, buy office supplies, lease office space in their home state or district, mail official documents, answer mail, travel back and forth between Washington and their home, and generally try to serve their constituents. The amount each office gets is based on a formula, but generally it's around $1 million. There are limits on how many people you can hire (18 permanent, 4 part time) and on how much you can pay people (max is $151,000). It varies from member to member, but most offices spend the most on staff salaries, then mail, then office rent, travel, supplies, etc.
Members are expressly prohibited from using their taxpayer-financed office money for campaign activities, personal expenses, or primarily social activities. Members also can't accept support from private sources for their official duties (except for travel).
Yet Palin did right in going on Oprah. She positioned herself to be real to those wives and ladies that watch Oprah and didn't really know the real Palin.
This may have been Oprahs strategy as you suggest, but Palin made it part of her own strategy. She probably succeeded far more than Oprah did because everyone knows who Oprah is already, now more people know who Palin is who didn't.
I've read a great many columns on Palin by now… Michael – yours is perhaps the only one 100% on target!
a Senate Committee approved appropriations legislation that would repeal Title 2, Section 39 of the U.S. Code, which states that Congressional administrators “shall deduct from the monthly payments (or other periodic payments authorized by law) of each Member or Delegate the amount of his salary for each day that he has been absent from the Senate or House, respectively, unless such Member or Delegate assigns as the reason for such absence the sickness of himself or of some member of his family.” NTU has long sought enforcement of this law, but Congress has been reluctant to do so.
US CODE : TITLE 2 > CHAPTER 3 > § 39Prev | Next § 39.
Deductions for absence
How Current is This?
The Chief Administrative Officer of the House of Representatives (upon certification by the Clerk of the House of Representatives) shall deduct from the monthly payments (or other periodic payments authorized by law) of each Member or Delegate the amount of his salary for each day that he has been absent from the House, unless such Member or Delegate assigns as the reason for such absence the sickness of himself or of some member of his family.
I'm sorry but Palin quitting as Governor was exactly the right thing to do. She did it because it was what was best for Alaskans, and those were the people she owed, no one else. It's difficult to describe the composite picture of events and circumstances that led a near total paralysis of Governor Palin. She was best off leaving it to her lieutenant and stepping aside, and so were all Alaskans of every political persuasion. Another term was not the answer, and there were things at stake that spoke to the greater good of the state.
The fact of the matter, which many may not agree to, is that stepping down as governor was an act of selflessness, not a crass political move and it certainly should not be taken as weakness, it took strength and once again, it took the courage of her convictions for her to do that. Many Alaskans applaud her for that even as we regret losing her as our chief executive, as we've not nearly the opinion of her lieutenant as we do Palin. We'll see how he does.
I wish more people, especially moderates and independents would pay more attention to the nature of her campaign for governor of Alaska. With Palin, when the knives came out, she excoriated her own kind first. If the Republican party cannot appreciate the need for some housecleaning internally, then not even Palin can help them in the long haul.
It may turn out over time, that quitting as Governor becomes a liability to her, but I sincerely doubt you'll see her adopt any sort of apologist position on the matter.
I think the link to Reagan is an appropriate one. i was just a kid at the time but I do remember him (along with ford) being mimicked as a dufus and not smart enough or too old to be president. They are doing the same thing here only on steroids.
This is a very similar pattern to the democrats and liberals response to Michele Bachman. Both of them make the liberals wet themselves just by listenign to them. They are two of the same mold and I hope they both go on to bigger things and kick some major butt.
"I wish we had 1000 Sarah Palins."
But you do. You have millions of good people who embody the same qualities
as Sarah. That is the source of her power and yours – the millions of Americans
who recognize themselves in her. Go take back the country, folks. I'll be cheering
you on from the Great White North!
It's a little more complex than that, in part my response above to GA_boy speaks to this. It's not necessarily RHINOs alone that fear Palin style leadership. She ousted some seriously corrupt republicans in the state of Alaska who were not branded as RHINOs. Those people were doing damage to the brand and not by watering down the principles, but by being as crooked as they come and as blatant and arrogant about it as any in Washington D.C.
Sarah Palin absolutely obliterated a Republican power matrix in the state of Alaska that has stood since Alaska joined the Union as the 49th state. She defeated an incumbent governor from her own party, and a highly regarded former Democrat governor who held the office at least twice (I forget) and had already established a positive legacy as a former chief executive. That says a lot, but when you realize that she was swept into office on an overwhelming tide of bi-partisan populist support, and maintained approval ratings in the high 80s until being cast as a V.P. candidate, then you only begin to see a larger picture of Palin.
You know, thanks you for reminding me of that. It's encouraging and I forget that sometimes. It's been difficult for us in Wasilla, this whole series of events. This person is our neighbor, our kids share schools and classrooms. We're holding out hope for the best for Palin, for Alaska, and for the United States. Whether that means a Palin in office somewhere/sometime or not.
Obambi was raised a Muslim. There are 57 states in Islam. You'll have to pardon his confusion. /s
I suggest you read her book. Not that you have to to understand why she resigned. She explained it very well in her speech where she announced she was resigning. The fact that so many conservatives claimed to not understand her reasons says more about them than it does about her. Some people on the right amaze me with their lack of intelligence when it comes to Palin. Why they refuse to believe what she says, to me, simply means they don't like what she says. Tough.
As far as the left goes, and anyone else who has no problem with Obama, Clinton, Biden, and the countless other people who resigned their jobs to take jobs in the administration, ask yourself why you think it's OK for those people to resign but it's not OK for Palin.
Obama is the worst offender of all. Aside from Hillary's blatant carpet bagging run for US Senate with the sole purpose of running for President, Obama takes the cake when it comes to shameless opportunism. At least Hillary served more than one term in the Senate and, by all accounts I read, at least took the job seriously enough to learn the rules and procedures. OK, she can be forgiven for running for reelection in 2006 because maybe she really didn't know if she would run for President in '08. Uh, yeah, right. The fact is that she took millions in campaign donations to run for a Senate seat she knew she would resign from. The fact that she ended up resigning for a Cabinet position doesn't change the fact that she intended to resign when she ran. But give her the benefit of the doubt if you want to.
But Obama? What gall does it take for a junior Senator to abandon his job to run for President so soon after being elected? (An election that was pretty much handed to him, btw). Don't think Obama thought he would win? Uh, knowing now what a huge ego the man has he obviously thought he would win.
Sarah Palin resigned for the good of Alaska, to prevent herself and her family from being destroyed financially, and to take away the only real weapon the Left had to destroy her politically. It was the smartest thing she could have done. This is a woman who wanted the job so much that she campaigned tirelessly across a state the size of which boggles most peoples minds. (Just one example from the book: Palin would drive 12 hours, one way, to a campaign event). She won 48% of the vote in a 6 way race.
Sarah Palin is an amazing person. Even as an atheist who is pro-abortion, I would vote for her in a heartbeat. This country needs her.
I think the other repliers to your post have said all that needs said regarding her leaving the governorship, but I just have to be amazed at all the people who claim her leaving was anything but an act of good character.
Do you actually know why she left?
And if so, how can you do anything but applaud? The only reason I can think of is that you've pre-determined that you don't like her and are looking for things to be upset about.
How about being a little open minded? Nobody has to decide today who is even going to try to represent conservatives, or the GoP, let alone who is going to be president in 2012.
I'm guessing people will come to understand her quite a bit more in the next 2 years. The ones that don't will be the ones that pre-determined they don't like her, and in my book, that makes you as bad as the liberals.
Judge her on her beliefs and strength of character, and if those are lacking, then don't support her. But this leaving the governorship argument is pathetic.
Palin/Bachman 2012 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“…her tactics on this book tour may or may not be helpful regarding future political ambitions…”
Her “tactics”? What tactics?
Sarah is the real deal, a second coming of Ronald Reagan! She will lead our country!
Ride 'em Cowboy
She resonates with some people, generally the low-to-no-information crowd. There are a lot of them out there, but not nearly enough to elect her to any national office.
I'm sure it's a good read because the words aren't too big for you.
Of course what Sarah Palin did say was that Alaska and Russia were very close together, and that from the western most point of Alaska you can see Russian land. Which is true… Little Diomede Island (Alaska) and Big Diomede Island (Russia) are both located in the middle of the Bering Strait, and they're only about 2 miles apart.
Her explanation was a total fabrication. The dupes fell for it.
Ohh Poor "North to Alaska"!
You didn't get the Leftist Activist memo that it's no longer effective to employ the mental bullying tactic of "racist", "uneducated", or "lower intellect" to counter logically legitimate viewpoints as a last resort! Also that whole scam concerning "Elite University Degree = Genius Status" can't be used either. MSM has been unable to hide the absolute dismal performance in elementary mathematics, scientific process, & logic of our democratic "Ivy League" politicians in the current government.
For new methods of squashing dissent, please refer to SEIU, AG Eric Holder, Chicago Politics, or the clandestine suppression tactics outlined in the emails of global warming "scientists".
Have a lovely, liberal day!
Ratings, my dear, Ratings
Plus 'the queen' wanted to be the first to interview her. So glad to hear (NEVER watch O) that Sarah more than held her own! With every interview, she will get more and more comfortable. GO SARAH!
If I heard correctly, even those in the O's audience cheered Sarah more than O
Agree, more people got to see the REAL SARAH and can no longer swallow the O's trash talk without a thought.
It's past time to clean house of all the so-called 'country club Republicans' – they do NOT represent their constituents!
If we keep doing what we've always done, we'll keep getting what we've always gotten! Time for a REAL CHANGE! Elect ONLY those with strong values…NO MORE CRONYISM…let's get some people in Congress who believe in America and who will vote to bring us back to the strongest country in the world!
LESS GOVERNMENT IS THE BEST GOVERNMENT!
Yes, isn't it amazing that Sarah can carry on a conversation WITHOUT teleprompters!!! I have decided 'the one' couldn't order a Big Mac without his handy dandy teleprompter!
Wow. That really hurt. NOT! You need a better put down, that one's been used a lot.
Thank you for expressing your wise insights into what makes America 'tick' – sometimes we who are so fortunate to live here, fail to see the forest for the trees. It is indeed the land of opportunity for all! And Sarah Palin exhibits that very feature…an ordinary person who has made an extraordinary life for herself!
My daughter had the opportunity to shake Sarah's hand at a recent book-signing and her comment was just as you describe – "She is so genuine – so real – one of us" – that is a HUGE plus!
Reckon it’s too much for all you folk … who blubber that Palin’s “not ready yet” or “not experienced enough” to be president … to say SPECIFICALLY what experience she lacks?
The only people who have the experience to be president are those who HAVE BEEN president. Even serving as VP doesn’t actually provide the experience of occupying the Oval Office.
But isn’t it odd that the only person on the horizon who’s shown the balls necessary to handle the job is a woman?
Sadly enough i have met more than one liberal who knocks Sarah Palin because she said "I can see Russia from my house"…that and because she doesn't read like Time magazine or some shit…bullcrap excuses if u ask me
Sarah Palin is our Margaret Thatcher!
I pray for her and her family. Whether or not she runs for president, the bottom line is we need her and many more like her.
I love you Sarah!
Call this a hunch, because I only have anecdotal evidence to back it up, and not a whole lot of that: I think the "Palin Derangement Syndrome," Like the previous "Bush Derangement Syndrome," has more to do with her (and W's) forthright Christianity and moral certainty than with anything else; worse, I doubt if the Palin/Bush haters are even remotely aware of it. But, think back to when the real anti-Bush bonfire became an inferno — it was right behind growing murmurs about 'Bush being chosen (by a Higher Power) to deal with 9/11 and a war on terrorism;' immediately following 9/11 and for some time, the most common statement from Left as well as Right was an expression of thanks, either that Bush was President or that Gore wasn't. But as soon as Bush's religious convictions moved front and center, animosity began morphing into derangement. Similarly, Palin's religious convictions are front and center, and part of her projected persona. Some anti-religion types do not deal rationally with that.
Just a thought.
I think everyone is missing the point, just like Reagan, Sarah has stepped over the media. She doesn't need them to talk to the people anymore. She knows that they (the media) will never be on her side, so why bother. Look at the people sitting in line for her book. Do you really think they believe that Tina Fey is the real Palin? Do you think that they watch MSNBC? We got 3 years left of Obama, her stock will rise every day.
Sorry Jordan, IMHO the POTUS has made MORE mistakes than any one president ever!!!
Liberals can't stand powerful women.
Not only do the Democrats HATE Palin, the Republican GOP HATES her also.
In Alaska she cleaned house exposing CORRUPTION and not playing by the usual game rules.
The GOP could have won the LAST election, but it was setup for BARRY to win.
Both parties are LINKED together to F*** the Public and NOW are Scared.
There is so much corruption in Corporate America and from Local government to Washington, that it is making SLAVES of US all.
I hope 2010 and 2012 will become "By the People, For the People" instead of the select FEW.
Contrast this with any of Obama's worldwide apologize for America tours. I, for one, feel just "great" when I hear Obama inform the world of America's many flaws.
You are so right. Reagan showed us that our country is a great force for good in the world, and inspired us to want to live up to the greatest ideals that our country was founded upon. He brought the best out of all of us, simply by telling us that we were capable of living our own lives — and that we were the best people to determine what is best for ourselves. What a contrast: "I believe in you enough to let you make your own decisions" versus "You are too dumb to know whether you should buy health insurance. So, not only will I tell you what's best for you (buying health insurance), I'll throw you in jail for failing to do so." I know which one I'd pick. The message of Freedom resounds with all of mankind. The Reason the Left detests Palin is that she is a powerful messenger to bring that message of freedom… Just like Reagan!
It's absolutely true, she has stepped right on by the media filter. Although I'm too young to really remember I'm old enough to recall my staunch Kennedy Democrat fathers profound respect for the man, and to have noted that.
I heard recently from some yapping face on my TV that Sarah Palin single handedly altered the course of the "Health Care Reform" debate with a single tweet
"Death Panels"
You know she didn't calculate the impact of that phrase, she just shot off on her twitter page and that went completely viral. The direct rebuttal to that phrase by the President spoke volumes, indeed it buoyed the issue where the matter could have died in an avalanche of fraudulent scorn.
So she's allegedly neutralized and supposedly her political career is 'toast' because she left office early, and one possibly grammatically questionable tweet sets a fire.
T. H. A. N. K. Y. O. U. North-to-Alaska is probably from South of the Border….what Border?, who knows. He/She is not American for sure…LOL
We TRUE Americans know, that with COMMON sense, (something Liberals don't know, because they controled the Education system and learned from themselves, just LIKE Inbreeding for the past 30 yrs) Palin is not Lying about anything and the LIBS will have nothing to SUPPRESS her come Election time.
GOP Republicans can't either
Hee-hee…I do believe you're on to something…….: >
Oh my she quit as Govenor! Let me see…….Obama had four years left on his Senate term……Hillary had no intention of quiting her Senate seat to run for President……..LAME LOGIC. At least Sara was honest, she left to save the State (TAXPAYERS) of Alaska from defending Her against ethic complaints (most by one woman)that have gone nowhere but cost the TAXPAYERS thousands to defend the Govenor. This type of non-self serving honesty we need more of. When forced to debate issues, liberal resort to name calling and personal attacks. They cannot handle truth……so they distort.
What a fantastic article! To me, she IS the 2nd coming of Reagan! Authentic, upbeat and takes no guff from the media. She's practically beating the media and they don't even realize it. WE GET IT! The "Drive by" media, liberals and RINOs are scared of her. The status quo doesn't reside with her and they know she'll try to root out the corruption much like she did in Alaska. She has my full support!
If Palin is such a great mother, why is Piper seemingly never in school?
Palin kids do well in school. I'm not privy to the one kids exact attendance record……are you?
"Seemingly never in school" Well it seems that way to you eh, because you saw the kid on the TV to many times or what? Gimmie a break, that's just a silly thing to say and I don't even view it as a credible or honest question. It's nothing more than taking a shot at the womans motherhood. GarColga, your just a great big, mostly squeezed off douche bag for even saying that as far as I'm concerned. I'm reasonably certain that Palin's kids academic careers aren't suffering, although I refuse to pry into that even where it would be easy to know for sure in such a small community. I know that Willow was pretty busted up over kids giving her a hard time in school during the election. Kids can be very cruel to one another… that's nothing compared to what the teachers did to them.
But off you go with "IF she's such a great mother" — see the phrasing casts doubt on it from word one….. then you drag up the kids school issues where you don't even know. It's pathetic and the question says many things about GarColga and not much about Palin or her kids.
