Thousands Attend Pelosi-Care Protest: Ten Arrested at Capitol Hill Sit-In

Capitol Police arrested ten people on the second floor of the Cannon House Office Building at a sit-in this afternoon. The demonstrators had crowded into the office of Speaker Nancy Pelosi with a print-out of the health care bill, intending to tear up the bill in protest.
“It was a mess. There was paper all over the hallway,” said Jeanette Beam, who traveled from Georgia to join the protest. “They took a little old lady away in plastic handcuffs.”
The arrests, which happened a little before three o’clock, prompted plenty of chatter but little surprise. Earlier in the day, an organizer with a megaphone had explained the plan for the sit-in. “The police know we’re coming,” he announced. “No one has to get arrested if they don’t want to.”
The protesters were part of a crowd of 10,000 that gathered on Capitol Hill to protest the Democratic health care bill. The “emergency house call” was initiated by Rep. Michele Bachmann and organized by Americans for Prosperity.
Bachmann greeted the crowd from the Capitol steps: “You came. You came to your House.” When her remarks were interrupted by a chant of “Kill the bill,” Bachmann joked, “Oh, don’t hold back. Tell them how you really feel!” She continued, “Kill the bill – that’s exactly what you’re going to tell them.”
The lady from Minnesota was joined by several other Republican congressmen, including House Minority Whip Eric Cantor. Also on hand were celebrities like John Voight, Mark Levin, and John Ratzenberger, famous for playing Cliff Clavin on “Cheers.”
“We have to remember that these people are not the philosophical descendants of JFK and Tip O’Neill,” said Ratzenberger. “They’re the philosophical descendants of Abbie Hoffman, Saul Alinsky, and Wavy Gravy.”
“They’re Woodstock Democrats.”
The presser’s one sour note came when Rep. Todd Akin led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance – and then flubbed the words. The word he skipped was “indivisible.” The crowd kept going through this Freudian slip, and Akin caught up to them in time for “liberty and justice for all.”
After the press conference ended at one-thirty, the crowd walked across the street to the House office buildings in order to confront their representatives in person. Lines ran along Independence Avenue for entire blocks as hundreds lined up to go through security.
The lines moved slowly, but most of the protesters had made it inside by four o’clock.
Queued constituents chatted about how far they had traveled. “They chartered buses for us,” said one who had traveled to Washington from Ohio. “They planned to have just one bus coming from Columbus, but yesterday they had to add two more.”
Others cracked jokes about Pelosi: “I wonder if the public option will pay for her botox.”
One man, who had lost track of his group, tried to explain his location over a cell phone. “Can you see me? I’m wearing the Gadsden flag as a cape.” His description would have been specific enough in most crowds, but, at yesterday’s rally, at least a dozen other protesters were wearing the same thing.

That was some gathering and to think that people like Jon Voight and Mr. Ratzenberger flew in from California is fantastic!!! I'm listening to Mark Levin on my radio right now and he is telling it like it is. It's unfortunate about those people being arrested and Pelosi of course has the police block these people.

Are you sure these weren't the democrats that were in Lieberman's office protesting FOR the democrat bill? I thought it was democrats in their that got arrested. I believe the thousands of protesters against Pelosi's bill were with Bachmann and were republicans, conservatives and probably some libertarians.
One wonders why the AARP would wade into the healthcare debate in favor of the collectivization. Could it be the $650 million in royalties the AARP receives annually from the healthcare industry and anticipation of more? Seems a bit of a conflict of interest. But what do I know, I'm just a kid from the sticks.

It takes a lot to get conservatives to protest, even mildly. This just shows the extent of our frustration and disgust with not being listened to by those who work for us! Maybe it is time to step up the protest level! God bless.

What were the protesters arrested for? Ripping up Pelosi's health care bill or sitting on it? Ha Ha–It's late–time for sleep.
Nevermind I just saw another video of them outside Pelosi's office. I'm kinda ashamed they would resort to democratic tactics. Peaceful Protesting I find wonderful. Interupting people's jobs not so wonderful.
The movement is still lacking something. One galvanizing moment. An Alamo, a Ruby Ridge, a Waco. It'll come, when the time is right. We need to be vigilant, and watch for it………….
We need to "interrupt" their jobs…especially since it appears they think their "jobs" are to tear down the U.S. Constitution. Interrupting their "jobs" was the point of being there! The only thing "shameful" is radical Marxism rampant in our Capitol.

I wonder, often, if and when something like this will happen. I remember Waco well, being in TX at the time. The way govt used ATF (civilian army?) to massacre women and children when they could've simply arrested Koresh was a real eye opener. Elian Gonzalez found out what it was like to have govt stormtroopers take him at gunpoint. Something bad will happen… I don't think we have to worry about Holder, but one of his Czars will start killing people, sooner or later, and likely in a more sinister way. This time Americans won't be sleeping slumbering.

HMMMM an idea just came to mind remeber the anti war drummers? Pehaps we could start getting volunteers to play a phife and drum outside the whitehouse we could keep some starving musicians off the welfare lines for the next three years.

It just didn't seem right and with the culture of liars and con artists out there; I question just about everything.
What I see happening is arrogance on a scale never seen before. I suspect that the Dems and Obama are going to go ahead and ram healthcare and capntrade down our throats. I think they feel that those who hate them now won't vote for them anyway, so the hell with them. They seem to have convinced themselves that they know better than the people and think that what they are doing will play out to their benefit. Afterall once we all see the great wisdom and vision, we will all fall madly back in love with them. They scare the hell out of me. I worry if what damage they do can be un-done. I fear for our republic!

Three days ago I would have agreed with you. Today I think some of the dems for reelection next year may not be willing to go along. For the first time in the last 8 months I think there is a possibility to stop piglosi and her crowd and slow down the destruction BHO is pursuing. We might well stop it.
It’s really too bad that former presidents get money from taxpayers even if they “failed” in their job. There ought to be a law! Obama is goingto continue to “bleed” tax payers! Best thing we can do is keep voting democrats out of office and repeal the healthcare nightmare and cap&trade. KEEP TALKING VOLUMES-to people out in public. They have NO IDEA WHAT’S HAPPENING. It’s because the MSM has been gagged by this current administration. Tell people to check out this website if they have internet available. I have found most people to welcoming. They KNOW-things arn’t right. They just don’t know where or what to look for. I LOOK at this as “planting a seed,” the roots keep growing! Ask-them to pass it on!

Quite right and then some, but don't forget that the AARP was for ObamaCarfe early on, then seniors went nuts when they found out, so AARP sort of retracted their approval ( but not really ), so once again publicly being for it really a change. Of course they are supposedly going to make money when/if the Bill is passed; that was always the scheme.
I'm no kid either and never posted comments till this gang came in to take power from the people. Now I check Lucianne, Newsbusters, Michelle Malkin etc every night and leave my opinion, or my fears, and a lot of anger. We aren't alone anymore. We used to be a nice bunch, tax payers, law abiding, middle class. But now we're angry .. takes a long time to stoke that fire up into action but now that's it's lit, it's going to roll.
I'm all about public protest and what-not.
But when the protesters dress up in silly costumes like the chains & stuff it just makes them look….silly.

I just caught 60 seconds (about as much as I can safely take at one time) of Keith Olbermann , reporting on the "frightening" (his exact word) anti PelosiCare demonstration in Wash DC.
Clearly "racism and bigotry" (again his exact words) were on display at the steps of the Capital.
I tried to hear some of what his guest Eugene Robinson was saying but, as I felt blood pressure rising and eyes glossing over, "astroturf " (I kid you not) was the last thing I heard before the channel mercifully changed.

Note the difference to how they covered the G20 Summit in Pittsburgh where there actually was violence from the protesters. Damage was done to the city, but apparently the MSM thinks that is OK if you are protesting for what they consider to be the right agenda.
The incident at Fort Hood, TX is going to get all of the media coverage today., I'll ventrue to say. But, the Dem.s know we were here and will be back. Like others, I never posted in my life… until the Wanna-wanna-ding dong came along. Many of us surrounded the priest and his compatriots who were arrested holding up cell phone and iPod videocameras to document the event. The people arrested were senior citizens and not violent. Their actions of tearing up the bill in Pelosi's office is the only action short of violence that could get her attention. There was no disorderly conduct–all they did was litter, which frankly was an improvement to Pelosi's office.
The authorities brought an ambulance to take away the priest and a young congressional aide spoke with the ambulance attendees then turned to the crowd documenting the event to tell us that the priest was not arrested, only being taken to the hospital because he fainted. I spoke with an attending police officer after the ambulance left, and he said the priest was definitely arrested–the congressional aide lied to us.
Geraldine Ferraro was on Hannity last night. Her last words, uttered soto voce, were:
"At least they [the protestors] weren't armed this time".
Anyone else catch that? I know Sean didn't.
These people work for us! Their job is to listen to us and create an environment where we have the freedom to make our own decisions according to the constitution!

It was liberals arrested in Lieberman's office. Go to AP image website and there is a lady in a pink t-shirt that says "healthcare for every community." Also, I think some pro-life people were arrested. There is always extremists on both sides, but the majority are not.
The best example that Obama has given us that he doesn't give a rat's behind is that he didn't even pay attention to Tuesday's election results!

I never blogged in my life, never got politically upset, never voted in non-presidential elections until this year! I've never been this pissed before and I've never had the urge to run for office myself until now.
I couldn't get a flight in time for yesterday even though I was there on 9/12. We need to do another march (planned a head of time so others can make it) before the cap and tax or Copenhagen vote. Also, watching on cspan, I didn't like how some of the representatives used the platform to promote their elections.

Keep your powder dry. It's time for peaceful protest. If it passes then we go into civil dis-abidance to prevent its implementation. Conservatives are too strong to lose in the long run. Ha Ha…you are so right about women. I am part of a group of Moms called ASAMOM.ORG. We gathered from all over the country yesterday in Washington. Those of us from Florida paid a housecall on our Senator Bill Nelson. He was "in an all day meeting" according to his poor little aide, who quickly got an earfull from the bunch of us. Don't mess with Mom…we went up there and spanked them good!
Its a shame that we the people have to fight with the representives of our nation that work for us. They think they control us but to keep any form of legitimacy they have to have us vote for them. I say vote them all out! Then we the people can change the rules that they have screwed up, to be in our favor, not theirs. Limit their pay and the terms. Force them to live with every bill they pass, no exemptions. no golden parachute retirments and force them to live within their means and not on an expense account. A major change should be that all bills must be posted for the public to read and comment on for at ;east three months before they can pass them unless its a declaration of war or national emergency. The bill should also be in plain second grade level english and contains no earmarks of any kind for anyone. Every expense must stand on its own merit or not at all. Vote them all out and prosecution the ring leaders, pelsoi, Reid, Franks, Dodd, Wrangle, Waters, emanuel, Obama. They are running this country into the ground. Obama claimed to be the great uniter but all his has united is the oppostion to his way of thinking and the lefts desire to destory this great country. What happen to our prosecuting traitors?

I just returned to Georgia from the House Call on the Capitol.
There is so much WRONG with this article that I cannot even begin to the correct the mistakes.
I was there and I saw and heard most of the things you mentioned.
No one "chartered busses for them"- sounds like some corporation PAID for their transportation.
The busses were arranged and people committed to paying for their transportation and hotels themselves- and lost time away from work and their families. THEY SACRIFICED for America's LIBERTY.
I spoke PERSONALLY to the head of the Capitol's Police Force and he estimated that there were at least 40,000 people- a "CONSERVATIVE" estimate.
I have on TAPE- what the gentleman said about ripping up the Unconconstitutional health care bill in Pelosi's office.
She DID have armed Capitol Police outside her door- and when the incident occurred with the people who were arrested (including a frail, elderly priest) the rest of the people in the hall were ordered away- including myself.
There was another "incident" where representative Connolly was "accosted" by a 110 pound constituent, who attempted to get his attention by grabbing his arm, as he tried to leave his Congressional office early- as THIS Blue Dog had had ENOUGH of being hassled. He told her she was committing a Federal Offense by "Assaulting him."
These left wing, progressive, Saul Alinsky Woodstock Democrats are beyond belief and beneath contempt.
Most of them had their doors closed, were not there, were hiding under their desks or just acted like the clueless, elitist azzes that they are.
No matter- they will be out of a job in 2010, no matter what queen Pelosi promises them.
And for the record- the health care bill is known as Pelosi Care.
Because Obama Care is an oxymoron.
And as a P.S. and an explanation to the "Woodstock Democrat" comment by John Ratzenberger-
He was a heavy equipment operator at Woodstock, trying to "save the hippies" by moving the dirt and mud caused by the torrential downpours that weekend.
But in the end, the National Guard had to come in and save them.
What thanks did the military get?

I'm having a hard time getting my whole head around the psychiatrist-cracked slant being played so hard in the mainstream media and yesterday in the House on cspan. I also am blown away by an FGO killing basically his own troops. Today I find myself wondering who threatened his family? That he was blackmailed into this suicide mission to save his own family seems so much more likely to me than anything else that I am hearing from the media.–That explanation would never play well with the President's play-nice-with-the-Moslem's policy so we would only hear about it if it was leaked if it was true. But that this happening is a possibility that surely can't be a surprise to the Intelligence community. Wasn't Sadat also killed by one of his military officers when he chose to be reasonable in his dealings with the West?

The bottom line is that we the people need to take our country back, the government has had it for much tooooo long. A revolution is necessary, to start; we need to limit the terms of all politicians; no special deals, they get what we get; they pay for their health care just like we do; no pork accepted; all bills published and reviewed 60 days prior to action; and we develop a process to impeach any in congress that are not executing the will of the people.
What the government is doing to us citizens in this country right now is exactly why the second amendment exists and must forever remain.
