Well, I think ACORN’s remaining benefactors might be a little closer to pulling the plug once and for all after watching this bizarre rant from Ms. Lewis from just a few weeks ago. She is speaking at the Winter Conference of the Young Democratic Socialists on March 25, 2010 – watch:
As I’ve said elsewhere, I think it is unbecoming of conservatives to engage in hyperbole and personal attacks. We should allow this to remain the primary tool of our opponents. Lewis is clearly a bit unhinged here, but the underlying debate is an important one for the future of America. Frankly, I wish more “progressives” would express their views so openly. The debate between socialist values of collectivism and government control, and traditional American values of individual liberty and free enterprise is one we should relish.
The White House recently rescinded the ban on federal funding for ACORN after a court order, as reported by Matthew Vadum here yesterday. While the Justice Department is vigorously appealing in an attempt to re-instate this ban, it is a little late for the President, key Democrats, and certain members of the progressive media to distance themselves from Lewis and ACORN now. As much as they might like to.
To Ms. Lewis and others that share her concerns: there is no group of Americans who value freedom of expression, personal liberty, and equality under the law more than us. So any talk of communist witch hunts, Jim Crow laws, or internment (!?) is utterly ridiculous. But there was one thing she was right about: we are coming for you. At the ballot box in November.

I agree. I think that openness amongst the progressives certainly would solidify the resistance against them and facillitate a sweeping turnover of our elected officials come ballot time. Who can claim that the majority of Americans would support the idea of a socialist shift in government and social policy? Not many–hence the reason that many progressives don't speak so openly.

Why does this have to be mutually exclusive? Why must we say that advocating for the collective needs of the backbone of America (working families) is an infringement on liberty?
Liberty is not just allocated to the individual, folks.
There is an overwhelming strength in group liberty and group justice.
This attempt to force working families to work as individuals in their attempt to make better lives and create a voice for themselves seems to be the antithesis of what we value in our Constitution.
If you care at all about the constitution, you should be helping to fight for the right of working families to work as a group to project their voice.

I NEVER thought I would say that I hope Bertha Lewis was right… but I am saying it now! We're all aware of what's going on and we're doing what is right and prudent by speaking out about it and finding good candidates to run for office. Beyond that, there is nothing legal or moral for us to do at this point. To consider any other action than this right now would be ill-advised. To force working families to have to fight their battles and achieve their voice as individual families; rather than being able to come together as a large group. Like, suppose there was a force working against tea parties with a goal of each tea party member being forced to tea party as an individual. So, you would have some guy with a 'don't tread on me' flag standing out in a field by himself and another guy with a tri-corn hat and a fife and drum marching down a side street all alone. Who would care? There would be no press coverage. No consistent message. You would see them and think they are crazy. The media might even isolate them and make them look crazy.

i) 'your position is on the right of two men.'……You have defined this as right. I know of no universal agreement on this being a right. You have applied your personal point of view and created a question which accepts your point of view as being natural law.
ii) '….right….[bunch of words]…..to marry' ……When I got married, my wife to be and myself had to apply for and be granted a license. So, much like a drivers license or a concealed weapons license, this would indicate that the state does not view 'to marry' as a right for anyone (regardless of sexual preference). The state views it as a privilege. Certainly, you could make a case that same sex relations and cohabitation (coupling) is a right. I don't think a government license is required.
iii) '…..government restricting such freedom'….again, marriage requires a license, so by definition it can not reasonably be characterized as a 'freedom'.
Look, marriage is an age old institution rooted in a tradition based on procreation. To nonsensically attempt to associate procreation with a specific lifestyle choice is of little value in arguing for same sex 'marriage'.
I'd be happy to give you some better arguments to bolster the notion that man-man or woman-woman marriage should be sanctioned.
Unfortunately, here, your test fails as a barometer for your theory. It also fails as a means to argue for same sex marriage.

First and foremost I do care about the Constitution and firmly believe that we should what is written and not what people believe it says! I believe that the founders intentions was for each state to govern themselves and let the fed govt settle disputes between states, deal with foreign relations and protect the union. I know I have simplified what the constitution says, but you are plainly wrong in think that the Constitution promote collectivism. What makes our country is great is its independence and the peoples independence, but people like you want the govt to make social justice for all those who may be having a hard time. Here is an idea instead of having the govt force social justice down every ones throat how about they just get out of the peoples way and allow them to solve their own problems.
