Move-On-Up.org: Stepping Outside the Template
by Mark PolegeFor about 100 years Progressives have been pushing their racist platitudes and policies beginning as far back as the segregation President, Woodrow Wilson. Others of that time period, like Planned Parenthood’s founder Margaret Sanger, have promoted methods for actively decreasing the Black population through sterilization, and in turn, the voice of African-Americans. Over the years the liberal agenda has worked to coopt African-Americans into the Democratic Party through pushing a defeated message of “You can’t get by on your own,” and “only the Democratic Party helps African-Americans.” Despite their message of comfort, they have done everything they can, with the help of Major Media, to convince African-Americans that only the government can help them succeed. However, this could not be further from the truth.
It was President Abraham Lincoln from the Republican Party whose conservative values worked to free African-Americans from slavery. It is also conservative values that were at work in the 1960’s to push for civil rights and for African-Americans to have the right to vote. However, since then, liberals in Washington DC and the Media have continued the template of defeatism toward African-Americans in order to try to maintain voter influence over their population. This continues even today.
African-Americans have also reached their own breaking point with Washington DC and the Media’s continued attempt to speak for them. This was reflected in the 1-1.5 million African-Americans that voted for George W. Bush during his elections. More importantly, this was reflected in the 800,000 African-Americans who voted for John McCain over the Black presidential candidate, Barack Obama. It is this absence of representation for African-American conservatives that sparked the birth of the Move-On-Up.org social network 2 years ago.
After enjoying a growing population of their social network to over 800 members, on Saturday, August 13th, 2011 Move-On-Up.org held their first ever 3-day national conference at the Crown Plaza Hotel in St.Louis, Missouri. St.Louis has had a rich history in the civil rights movement and was also one of the last stops on the Underground Railroad before the Slave Free state of Illinois. St.Louis made quite a fitting location as African-Americans once again take a stand for freedom and conservative values against the liberal policies and promotions that destroy families, promote life-long welfare, selective, historical education, and much more.
Move-On-Up.org describes their Mission in 3 parts:
1. “…to have a centralized meeting place for African-Americans to network, share ideas, and let the closet conservatives among us know that they are NOT ALONE.”
2. “…to grow a true grassroots movement, unbureaucratic organization that will be a needed force on the national scene to advance our agenda within the national debate.”
3. “…to find tomorrow’s future leaders and candidates for elected office at the local, state, and federal levels. Move-On-Up.org’s 527 PAC will provide the infrastructure for the moral and financial support necessary so that these candidates can wage credible, winning campaigns.”
They also describe their 5 founding principles as such:
Renewing our Economy – Our goal is to empower the African American people by expanding employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Health Care Reform – Health care is a personal issue, and informed individuals can make better decisions about their own care than government.Securing our borders – We need to gain control of our borders and enforce our immigration laws while encouraging legal immigrants who come seeking the American Dream.
Education – Education, while a national priority, is a local responsibility. We believe that parents, teachers, and local school boards are the key to true education reform — not big government. We support school choice initiatives such as vouchers, charters schools and homeschooling.
Strengthening our families – We uphold and respect traditional institutions such as marriage between a man and a woman. We are committed to protecting the life of innocents from conception through the infirmities of age. This value must be nurtured in both our culture and our laws.
The “Meet Me in St.Louis” Conference event consisted of:
- a Cardinals vs. Rockies game Friday evening
- a presentations by Rep. Allen West
- breakout sessions on topics ranging from Black Genocide, the Davis/Bacon Act (Continuing Jim Crow), the Constitution, Urban Initiative Committees, Immigration, and much more
- presentations by Andre Harper (author of the “Citizen’s Guide to Defeating Mainstream Media“), Bill Hennessy (co-founder of the St.Louis Tea Party), and Big Government’s own Andrew Breitbart, and others
Saturday was wrapped up with a blacktie banquet and the fabulous and inspiring presence of Star Parker. The evening was truly history in the making. The conference was topped off on Sunday morning with a Prayer Breakfast leaving everyone with much to reflect upon. More photos from the conference can be seen on Move-On-Up.org’s community website.
Some of St.Louis’ local area conservative bloggers were also in attendance including, Jim Hoft from Gateway Pundit and Darin Morley of Reboot Congress, to provide video and photos of some of the speakers as well.
Move-On-Up.org aims to become a beacon for African-Americans who value individual freedoms, the traditional institute of the family, and building a strong country on moral values and free enterprise. The inspiring words by all the wonderful speakers gave me great hope for the future, and I am truly honored to have shared this historic event that has made a very strong beginning.

Heh. Right on, dude.
We hope you had a great time here in St. Louis!
The group needs to be named "MoveOut".org
I'm sick and tired of people asking for government to be "our savior". Government usually does only one thing well: Take away people's liberty.
Lincoln did not use "Conservative Values" to free slaves, he did it out of war necessity. He needed to disrupt the South and recruit the slaves to join him.
If you want Abraham Lincolns real views on Black Americans, then please read the link below, because it is far from your vanilla proclamations:
"I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race."
~ Abraham Lincoln, Debate with Stephen Douglas, Sept. 18, 1858
"These are the words of the real Lincoln, who was as much a white supremacist as any man of his time. In fact, he was a much more extreme white supremacist than most, for he advocated "colonization" or the deportation of black people from America for his entire adult life. As soon as he entered politics in the early 1830s he became a "manager" of the Illinois Colonization Society which sought to use state tax funds to deport the small number of free blacks living in Illinois out of the state (the state amended its constitution in 1848 to prohibit the immigration of black people into the state, an amendment that Lincoln supported).
Lincoln followed in the footsteps of his idol, Henry Clay, who was the president of the American Colonization Society, and quoted Clay often on the subject. During his presidency he established a colonization office in the Department of Interior and funded it with $600,000, while working diligently to plan on deporting black people to Liberia, Haiti, Jamaica, Central America, the West Indies – anywhere but the U.S." – Dilorenzo from linked article

I believe you do Black Conservative in America a disservice by labeling them Africans.
Sanger (Planned Parenthood) also used W.E.B. Dubois (big time Socialist) to convince black people that sterilization would be good for them, making them a "race of thoroughbreds."
The first Republican candidate for President was John C. Fremont. Lincoln had him thrown in jail because after Fremont conquered Missouri during the civil war he abolished slavery there.
Fremont was going to challenge Lincoln's bid for re-election. Hannibal Hamlin refused to run with him. Lincoln ran with Democrat Johnson and formed the Union Party. Fremont and the "radical republicans" agreed not to run a candidate for one concession. A constitutional amendment abolishing slavery.
During the Reformation era, Republicans gave full and equal rights to all, 100 years before the Civil Rights Act. That's why the Dems started the Klan. (to scare blacks from voting – they would obviously vote Republican.)
That era, like the Revolutionary era, was a time of American Enlightenment. The time "Democracy In America" was written. A time to question and reevaluate what people believe. The Whig Party from whence Clay and Lincoln came was destroyed because of the slavery issue. The real Whigs ran a candidate against incumbent Millard Fillmore and ousted him. Many politicians were thrown out of the Whig Party. The remaining Whigs became the "Radical Republicans."
Sometimes Party tents are too big. But hey, you have to win elections.
I'd like to welcome the author here.
Move-On-Up.org.
Brilliant play on words.
Simply Brilliant!
As it becomes more and more apparent that the government is not only not helping blacks to succeed, but is actually doing great harm to them, more blacks than ever are moving away from the left. As they make this move to the right they become more aware of the actual history of the left and how lefties (socialists, communists, progressives, fascists whatever you want to call them) have worked to destroy the black family and community. This movement bodes well for the republic and all Americans no matter what the color of our skin.
It's hard to come to grips with the truth after spending a lifetime believing lies. The willingness to question one's beliefs takes courage and intelligence. I applaud this organization and it's members.
Yep, those are his words, and those are about all the negative words from him on this subject that you will find. Of course, you approach your subject in a purely presentism (you can look it up) fashion, and you leave out all of his other deeds, including his religious transformation, that provided the foundation for his future decisions. it's a cheap shot and one that would not hold up much scrutiny, especially for anyone who has even a shallow understanding of US history.
When you look at the abortion stats, you see 40% are African American babies while they only make up about 10% of the population. I haven't done the math, but this might suggest African Americans are aborting so many babies that, long term, their population may decline dramatically. In a sense, African Americans through abortion are dooming their race in the U.S. Worse still, they unanimously vote for those who encourage this kind of abortions (but the progressives say this is not to weed out undesirables, but is the right to "choose"). While I am somewhat pro choice, but not when this kind of policies are in place. The Democrats policies are racially cleansing the U.S. from African Americans. The only thing more vile than that? African American's voting for Democrats that advocate those policies disproportionatly killing their babies.
Future decisions, like starting a war on his own brothers and sisters? Or suspending Habeas Corpus and jailing newspaper writers and editors without trial, including during the Civil War without trial for writing against the war? One of these being Francis Key Howard, grandson of Francis Scott Key.
Obama just hates when real Americans get in the way of his 'Fundamental Transformation of America' into Communism.
Thanks Mr. Rhodes and colleague, of the Iowa Tea Party! You both did a great job of calling out the Liar in Chief!
I will be more encouraged when Blacks stop referring to themselves as hyphenated Africans.
I have a neighbor (Black), that distinquishes himself and African-Americans, he says:
Blacks have pride of self-determination and personal responsibility, African-Americans are the welfare class, gang members and the group where men leave their families. He becomes quite eloquent when he referred to as African-American. Needless to say, he is ostracized, even in his own family.
For my part. I will no longer assume all Blacks want to be called African-American.
Thought others might find this of interest.
You do remember the song of course with the same words?, it came out in 1970 on Curtis Mayfield's first solo album (Curtom Records, Philadelphia – he also produced it and owned the record label). Prior to that Mayfield was a member of the Impressions. Later he did the main song on the soundtrack for "Super Fly". RIP Curtis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpD8FpGpBjE
Yep, thank LBJ and his 'Great Society' for that, just look at Gary, IN, East St. Louis or Detroit.

IMHO whether someone prefers to be called black or African American doesn't mean anything. Such terms are just semantics. On a related note, nowadays negro and the other 'n' word are widely considered derogatory, but that wasn't always the case.
Its individual woman that are deciding whether or not to abort babies (and thus bear the responsibility), not the Democratic party.
As I've observed before, most of Latin America has stronger anti-abortion laws than any US state, but most of Latin America also has a higher rate of abortions (in part because a woman that wants an abortion can induce one). What we need is change is not the law, but the culture.
It will be interesting to see how well Move On Up does (the group doesn't call itself a conservative group, it says it is a group for moderates and conservatives).
I spend a couple hours yesterday reading the content on the website (mostly the blogs of members
) and as is the case here on the Bigs, there are a lot of very different perspectives. Unlike the Bigs, there doesn't seem to be a lot of debate going on among the 766 (according to the website) members but I really have no idea how many members a website needs in order to host vigorous debates.
I am sure the mainstream media will be doing a one hour special, prime time, exhorting the profound, groundbreaking nature of this great organization. CNN will add MOVE ON UP members to their panel discussions and listen respectfully and with an ear towards learning. Perhaps MSNBC will have a MOVE ON UP member as a host to counter the Rev. Al Sharpton.
Watching what the Dems and government has done to American blacks reminds me of what the Communists did to Germans when Germany was partitioned into East-West after WWII. Literally, in less than two generations, the Germans in the East lost all drive and sense of self-worth. Once the wall fell, the West Germans did not recognize the Easterners as being German, and in fact, resented having to pay additional taxes to support the rebuilding of the old East Germany (because the Easterners had become lazy and apathetic). Has a familiar ring to it.
Congrats to Move-on-up.org on taking a stand and showing others the way.
I've always been amazed at the stupidity of "You're black therefore you must think the way other blacks do." Diversity is allowed within other races and in each gender–why has it been so difficult to embrace diverse ideology within the black community? Worse yet, the prevailing theme seems to want to coddle the lowest common denominator bringing the entire race down. Good for this group for wanting to improve their lives–and of the community they are a part of, African-Americans. Love it!
Like you really care if black babies die or not. Stop being fake
Same song , different beat. Now black are supposed to believe if they vote Republican, all their problems will go away. So I guess the grass in greener on the other plantation.
What conservative blacks need to do is form their own political party or their issues will be marginalized by quasi conservatives in the Repub party who are looking for a new voting bloc.
Do tell. On what do you base this opinion? How is it that you can claim to know what is in the heart of someone you have never even met?
So are you saying Lincoln had "liberal" values?
I saw no reference to voting Republican in the statements from the group. They laid out solid principles that many Republicans happen to endorse.
Believism is what Democrats promote…."Vote Democrat because we will take care of you." As opposed to the independent solid principles this group holds to.
Hopefully these same folks will show them some of the history of blacks in America that even I didn't know about, including their contributions during the Revolutionary War and how there were blacks serving in Congress at or around or after the time of the Civil War. I remember hearing one black guy say he was very angry that he was never taught anything about those contributions.
They don't teach it so that they can claim that until the Democrats came riding in on a white horse and saved all the black people. The history of any country is frought with the bad, but also contains the good. Both should be taught. To hide the good in order to promote only the bad is disgusting and vile.
Well said.
Sometimes it can seem, to outsiders, that the black community thinks with one brain, and their penchant for voting as a block seems to confirm this. Yet, this 'outsider" looks to people like Sowell, Thomas, Elder, and even MLK, and I KNOW the truth. It has ever been a matter of time before the black community looked at the devastation around them and realized the truth of what has been done to them by the left.
TunaBlue put it well. You did a great job quoting Lincoln, but your quote is more than 100-1 overwhelmed with quotes that assert the opposite posture, one of racial harmony. So great job on being narrow-minded.
I think TunaBlue was talking about the future decisions of supressing the breakaway of several states that wished to continue slavery, both his first and second inaugural addresses, and the many other instances that Lincoln made quite apparent to the public.
You choose once again to take your cheap shot, and once again you fail – horribly.
Yeah, Lincoln did suspend Habeas Corpus and did jail newswriters. He was also re-elected after doing so. It is a government by the people right? Or do you have problems with that? It seems that you would like there to be slavery still existing. Quite sad. It is a shame that you use the mask of V as your profile picture. The character of V would be disgusted by your comments.
Excellent post Mark. I look forward to more of your detailed reporting.
Yup. Well said.
Exactly right. The left rewrites history so that it can portray the U.S. as always racist and evil so that they can change the present and take over the future. If more Americans, of all colors, knew the truth about U.S. history and the history of socialism, communism, fascism and the progressive movement then they would reject the left entirely. It's only by whitewashing the left's history of racism and treachery and by smearing the memory of the Founders that the left is able to perpetuate their agenda.
Historical facts are the enemy of the Left, which is why they have to change it. And they've been doing that in this country for more than 100 years (the early 20th Century Progressives started the project).
And they certainly have to ignore most of the history of the Progressives – they were racists and eugenicists and little wannabe dictators. They loved Hitler and Stalin and Mussolini.
Yes, you’re right again. These were extraordinary, even unlawful measures, to correct an evil being perpetrated against a single race used purely for economic gain for Southern Democrats. What’s your point? That he did the right thing but used unlawful means to accomplish it? That he used necessary force to overcome the evil being perpetrated? Do you buy into the Southern Myth, that the South was somehow the victim to the Lost Cause?
Well my Black neighbor would strongly disagree with you. He is of the mind and I totally agree – that the construct of hypenation reveals a certain mind set. He sees himself as 100% American. You cannot tell him or me that is 'just' semantics.
And he obviously thinks differently than most of his peers, which lends credibility to his personal view. He is preaching it too. He is trying to effect change in the Black community for personal responsibility and accountability and I support him in any way I can.
What an astonishingly ignorant statement. I gather you are in favor of aborting as many African American babies as you can. What is your motivation for this kind of eugenics?
The Whig Party from whence Clay and Lincoln came was destroyed because of the slavery issue has now a Rebirth as the Nation is in need of “Principles Before Party, Personality, and Profits, with Deeds not Words.” The Florida Whigs, Praise be to the Lord and God Bless its happening; Gary A.
