The People of Massachusetts Are Taking Back Their Seats
by Mike LaChanceThe Scott Brown revolution is alive and well in Massachusetts.
Tuesday night, January 26th at 7:00 when most people would like to be home relaxing after work, almost 500 average citizens from Massachusetts packed a convention hall in the Boston suburb of Braintree. They shared some common interests. They’re either running for office or helping someone else run for office. Some of them are running for federal or state offices, some for seats in local towns and cities and some for school boards. The one sentiment they share is clear: They’ve had enough.
A capacity crowd!
The event they showed up for was a “candidate school” offered by Boston talk radio host Michael Graham of 96.9 WTKK, a man the Boston Phoenix dubbed “Boston’s maestro of conservative controversies.” In between his tenure at WTKK and a career in stand-up comedy, Graham ran political campaigns. Today, he is sharing his knowledge with the citizens of the Bay State and encouraging them to participate in the system.
Attendees included people like Francis McLaughlin, a retired Boston fire fighter and registered Republican since 1975. McLaughlin is running for the Massachusetts House of Representatives for specific reasons:
“The Massachusetts legislature is totally ineffective. They’re not protecting children from predators, taxes are too high and there are way too many entitlements.”
Another attendee was Vernon Harrison, an “Independent Republican” who works in the computer industry and is planning a run for congress.
“I’m tired of the size, scope and spending of government. I also think people are tired of self serving career politicians.”
Potential candidates weren’t limited to Republicans. Marty Hogan of South Boston is a Democrat who’s gearing up for his second run for Boston City Council.
“Boston is not getting any better for Bostonians and we need real transparency. We need to return the seats to the people.”
The panel of speakers arranged by Michael Graham included every political persuasion. Holly Robichaud, a Republican strategist who blogs at the Boston Herald website as “The Lone Republican” gave a step by step explanation of a political campaign and former Boston City Councilman Bruce Bolling, a Democrat, offered an inspiring call to public service based on his own experiences. Tea Party activist, Corie Whalen provided advice on social networking software and Dennis Corrigan, a Libertarian, broke down the do’s and don’ts of campaign finance law.
Whalen, Graham, Robichaud, Bolling and Corrigan.
Speaking of Libertarians, another attendee was Joe Kennedy, the former rival of Scott Brown and Martha Coakley in the recent Massachusetts senate race. Kennedy is a Libertarian who ran as an Independent and when asked about Brown’s victory, graciously remarked:
“I’m very happy to see the effect of the election on Washington, DC.”
Of course the happiest person of the evening seemed to be the organizer of the event himself. When I caught up with Michael Graham at the end of the night, he was beaming.
“This was phenomenal, Scott Brown inspired hope. These are all people who came here from work and these are the people who can win.”
In March, Graham will conduct the third in his series of candidate school sessions.
“By the time we’re done, we will have trained a thousand people to run or help someone else run.”
With the election of Republican Scott Brown, Massachusetts became the subject of national interest over the last month. If this new wave of average citizens turned candidates follow through with their goals, Massachusetts may set a new standard in politics which hearkens back to America’s roots.
A government truly of, by and for the people.

"All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent."
-Thomas Jefferson
The people of good conscience are beginning to find their voices again.
just as we were going to write off the People's Republic of Massachussetts…
They come up with the most stunning reversal of political fortunes we've ever seen. Even the rout of '94 didn't have a sea change in left wing districts, which is what happened here. 65% of blue collar union workers voted for Brown, not the pro-SEIU Coakley. The left is still rubbing it's head over this hit and run.
Illinois is going to elect a Republican to take obam's old seat. Kirk should easily defeat Alexi Giannoulias in November, and incumbent governor Pat Quinn will also most likely lose to whichever Republican survive the dead heat. So, in a little under two years the liberal left will have lost both Teddy Kennedy's seat and Obama's
seat.
Who would have ever predicted that?
Good for you Massachusetts. It's great to see the cradle of liberty rocking again!
My hat is off to the people of Massachusetts. For over 45 years I never thought that they would ever 'get it'. They do now! Outstanding! How about it Illinois, California, New York, and everywhere in between? Now is the time to take back what has been stolen from us over the last 100 years. Throw the bums out!
Can his "candidate school" tour the country? We could use it here in OH.
Ask any counselor or 12-step program graduate: You have to hit rock bottom before you want to get better.
But then there are those who don't want to get better at all. They will always vote democrat.
This story warms my heart like none has in quite some time. Massachusetts is rising from the ashes!! Obama may yet prove to be one of the best things ever foisted upon the American people, if we can just make it another three years that is.
Thank youPresident Mass. for doing what you have to do to take back your country. My greatgrandparents, came with the shirts on their back to the USA, we are 4 generation USA, citizens. He left his country to get away from living a Socialistic, Communist country. He knew first hand what it was like to live in terror and tyranny. He would turn over in his grave to see our country going down that road. All immigrants and people who have come to America to be free should stand up and be counted, since they know what it is to flee a country that takes away their Human Rights and dignaties.
I wrote thank you people of Mass. not President, how did that get in?
Madoff is small Beans compared to the Thieves inside of our Government. I take that back. Our Government has blown right by the term Thieves and went straight to Tyrants. Who would have thought it would be the people of Massachusetts whom would lead the way a year ago? Way to go Voters of Massachusetts and may God Bless You. Your going to need him for this fight.
Now this is the change that we all can believe in. However, this is why the Dems are rushing trying to get everything they want done before Brown gets sworn in on the 11th. It sucks that he has to wait this long, if he was a Dem, he'd be sworn in immediately. I hope that the people in MA kicks out the Dem legislators for this.
Great News! I am excited to hear about the people of Mass stepping up to take back the gov! Good luck and Godspeed to everyone!
I too will be running for County Board of Supervisors here in Va in 2011. Take it back!
These are the kind of people we need. Fiscal conservative but socially moderate, regardless of party. I'll wager these folks are not the paranoid war-mongering kind either. Just labeling this as a "Republican" thing and hoping to get people who call themselves Republican won't solve anything. Look at where they stand on the issues.
Just heard that the OBama administration hired over 17,000 people to work for the Fed. Govt. they are earning over 100,000 dollars a year. No wonder our taxes are growing. The President, his czars, Congressmen, Senators, and all his administration, are the biggest welfare recipiants in the USA, Yet it is us the people that have to pay for their salaries. We have to work, breaking our backs in order to pay for the taxes, where is the money coming from. We do not even have a GNP, to help us pay for all the taxes and interest we have to pay. I hear we pay 6million everyday on interest only, might be more now! We and our children will never catch up. How much longer can the govt. print in order to survive. Is money growing on trees? God help us, Obama needs to Go, in 2012.
you have to know your problems before you can seek solutions. As the leftist agenda accelerates (and it WILL) more liberals will come to their senses. Remember- they just wanted OUR wealth re-distributed.
Not theirs…
Paul, California is lost and will never get it. Everyplace South of Lodi CA excluding Beverly Hills and Newport Beach are America’s version of Tijuana. A large population here do not even speak English. We are Status now who choose 1 inch long fish over Farmers. Our Government is in the extortion Bizz verse the people and there are no longer Private property rights. The People’s Republic of California will drag the rest of you down with us if you are not carefull.

It must be true that we had to hit bottom for people to wake up, and for that we may have to give Obama some back-handed praise. No one in recent memory has so quickly polarized the electorate. Spurned into action and galvanized with disgust the independents are fessing up to their momentary lapse back in November.
Obama completely and flagrantly dismissing the Massachusetts Message has gone and decided to 'double down' on stupid. He can no more utter a word without it being "I" or "ME", also cannot speak without his actions proving the lie. It is time to take this petulant POTUS to the penalty box.
What county? Stafford?
Freudian Slip??
Excellent news, the rebirth of democracy is in our hands..
I agree. California needs to be treated like any other social disease. If their mindset continues to expand and pollute neighboring states, as it already has with the peoples socialist republics of Oregon and Washington it will surely drown us all. To survive California needs to dismantle CALPERS and restructure its existing public employee pension system. It is CRIMINAL what UNIONS and their corrupt enablers in the state houses have done to this once great state. The irony is that this state possesses the greatest natural wealth and abundance but still has been able to pervert their prosperity. I need to correct an earlier assertion that California is llike a social disease, rather it is a contagious mental condition.
miedz: You are so correct. We need help here in Ohio. We have Dem. Senators, Reps, and Governor that should tell it all. I e-mail them and all I get back is a generated letter telling me they are working for the people. Right. they are working to destory our state. We have lost so many jobs here and I'm one of them. I can't find a job and its been since April of 2009. There are none. Ohio has always been a Repub. State . It went Blue in 2008. WE NEED HELP, PLEASE.
On the subject of Freudian slips, I thought I'd share this gem:
"Geez doc, I had one helluva freudian slip this morning. I can't believe I said it."
"What happened?"
"I wanted to say 'Pass the butter, please.' But what came out was 'You ruined my life, you f***ing c**t.'"
From an Ed McBain or Evan Hunter novel.
We've been hearing great news since Scott Brown won…. A nice wind in sails to carry us to the next election. It's happening in WI, as well.
There was a spot on yesterdays IL primary for a write in for our local villiage councilman. I nearly put my name in the spot. As we were leaving, my wife also said she should have put my name down. I've never considered it before, but now……….
Funny, these people do not look like psycho fringe-kook types to me…
The people who pay the bills, take care of their children, know the difference in right and wrong and believe in God are taking back our dear nation. Imagine that.
Chesterfield… Midlothian seat… as a Libertarian.
You took the words right out of my mouth.
I thot this was good too. http://stephaniekae.com/blog/?p=2057
thanks, good luck.
Even if Scott Brown had not taken the seat for Massachusetts the stir it caused among Americans to get involved in taking back our Republic is AMAZING!
I’m so proud to be living during these trying times. It’s inspiring to see so many Americans utilizing their rights to keep our INDIVIDUAL freedoms!
For once I agree with you. The country will only move forward once the people take back control of both parties from their respective left-wing bents.
I think John Adams would be proud. Braintree was his home.
You all have to remember that we've had 3 1/2 years of Obama Lite as governor here in the People's Republic of Massachusetts. Hasn't quite been the guy that Axelrod and Plouffe sold us.
Plus, the critical mass of elderly Hibernians who always had photos of the Pope, Cardinal Cushing and JFK on the wall are dying off, leaving the Dhimmicrat base somewhat short.
The guy Scott Brown replaced (the acting senator from MA) is not allowed to vote anymore according to MA law. Why is this still going on?
Very inspiring article Mike, and is indeed the way to take back our Republic!
The "left/right" narrative is a sham perpetrated by the establishment and its cohorts in MSM and hate radio to dumb us down and make us believe we have a real choice. Reality does not fit into some absurd left-right box.
I attended this event and it was unbeleivable. The atmosphere and the attitude of all the people was heartwarming.
I do not plan on entering as a candidate, but I am totally ready to help get some of these good people elected.
My aim is to make sure that Barney Fwank does not get relected.

How refreshing. Many are sick of career politicians.
Hmm, let's try this again. It appears the site now has moderators. Will they allow all sensible comments or will they filter out anything that disagrees with Breitbart's rabid ideology?

JUST some more pissed off middle class, tax paying, hard working, go fight your wars, AMERICAS tell govt. to change or your asses are out. God bless very one of them. hussein heres some change, more to come……
I think they've been having comment issues all day; I don't think it's moderation at all.
You are correct that left/right doesn't work for the country. Instead we have left/right for both parties.
Consider each as a line; there are left-wing Dems (libs) and right-wing Dems (cons), just as there are left-wing Reps (libs) and right-wing Reps (cons).
If you understand where the "wing" comes from, and what it represents, it makes more sense.
But to bucket all Dems as left-wing and all Reps as right-wing is the sham you describe.
Gee… I wonder…
I would love to attend a course such as this. Could you bring it to Maryland? Perhaps to Anne Arundel Community College. I would even be willing to approach the college to set it up. I am so disgusted with what our government has morphed into. It is way past time for the people to reestablish themselves as the "employer", not the "employee"!!!!!
Maybe Mr. Graham, or someone else could take this show on the road. Other states could benefit from knowledge gained at these sort of events.
Congratulations, Corie! Keep up the good work!
