Geico Cancels a Hater
by Matt KibbeFreedomWorks staff and volunteers have suffered through bomb threats, endless hostile abuse from union patch-through calls laced with profanity, death threats, the N-word directed at an African-American employee, and a host of full-frontal creeps. You can find many of these documented here and here.

Many of these orchestrated attacks were launched in the days leading up to our September 12th Taxpayer March on Washington. Where was the moral outrage when we received a bomb threat on September 11th? “There’s a f***ing bomb in your building, bitch,” the caller said. Then, did the media write stories about how the Democrats and their hard left adjuncts had gone too far with their threats, their hate, their racism?
We need to draw a line in the sand. Across this line you do not cross! Let’s all agree to hold the individuals acting badly personally responsible for their actions. As far as I can tell, the bad actors are likely phony infiltrators from tea party crasher groups.
We are a grassroots movement made up of people who believe in individual freedom and individual responsibility. Racism and hate are inherently collectivist ideas. As individualists we judge people as individuals, based on the content of their character, not the color of their skin.
I asked the activists that joined with 40,000 of their fellow Americans on the Mall in front of the Washington Monument on the evening of April 15th to police the crowd for any hate or racial slurs. If you see bad actors, ask them to leave. If they won’t leave, get a picture and we will out their bad behavior online in the light of day. I don’t care who you are: we will not tolerate haters or racists in our community.
So when the voice-over guy for Geico Insurance, D.C. Douglas, called and left us another hostile message, and left his phone number, we held him accountable too, posting his message where he calls all of us “mentally retarded,” and potential killers. Geico canceled his contract. He now says that we, “like Glenn Beck, are flirting heavily with sedition.” Strange accusation from an actor that talks for a living.” Americans covet our freedom of speech. We have a sacred right, enshrined in the Constitution, to show up, protest and challenge government policies that are bad for America. Freedom: it’s an insurance policy we should all buy.

Hurray to Geico for setting the good example.
Amen, JP. Good for them.
Isn't Geico owned by Obama-supporter Warrent Buffet? Didn't Geico ask for its advertisements to be pulled from Glenn Beck's program? I could be wrong. I think this is just a case of an employee's behavior that was so over the top that even a left-leaning company couldn't ignore it.
And he's not in Jail…..hummm? Does anyone know if he has a green card?
One stupid actor can cost you 15% or more on your car insurance business.
Note: Another poster came up with that one. I don't remember who but credit where it's due
I'm so glad the 'Geico Voice-over Guy', D.C. Douglas, was called out for his over the top behavior and subsequently terminated by GEICO.
Memo to all TEA Party people/groups: This should be Standard Operating Procedure from now on, calling out the offenders, exposing them and their stupid behavior in a public forum. I love it because it's the equivalent of a '2X4 upside the head' but without the pesky lawsuits. The result is the same…exposure and shaming, electronically.
No more turning the other cheek, because when you do that…you get slapped twice!
Isn't it 'cute' how they toss around sedition these days? Good OLD joey klein giving new talking points, too bad he didn't explain how to use that point – it will come back and continue to bite them in the ass.
Obviously GEICO can no more be responsible for hateful infiltrators than can the Tea Party. I love it that these "tolerant" liberals are so intolerant of just regular citizens expressing their discontent with an oppressive and increasingly over-reaching federal government.
Fear and irrational behavior are bedfellows. They know this hence the orchestration from the RahmObama Administration. THEY are trying to manifest irrational acts by driving fear into our minds.
Free speech is our tool. It is our right to yell, scream and rant. It is not the volume that should be contained. It is the INTENT we should recognize.
Rage against the machine. I HATE Pathological Progressive Liars and Psychopathic Banksters. THAT is my right. It is not white, black, green, yellow, male, female, tall, short, young or old.
They want to destroy Middle America and get rich doing it. What is not to hate about them?
Glad the fool's contract was CANCELED! LOL!
Now I'm going to go buy a celebratory coffee at STARBUCKS while open carrying!
I'm back in love with that little lizard!!!!!! YESSSS!!!! Go Geico!
Go to the WaPo story on Geico firing of Douglas, and it ends with is gem:
"says he's "open to any attorneys taking on this case pro bono."
In the meantime, if you want to hire him:"
Followed by a you tube video promoting him.
The Washington Post is disgusting.
The email reply I got from GEICO was that they hadn't used him in over a year and he was voicing his opinion.
If he had not said the part about being retarded, I think he would have been okay. Who says things like this???? Not the small govt faction.
Pip pip Cheerio to D.C. And you can take that however you wish…..
I listed to the phone calls. Pretty evil stuff, but how do we know they were "endless hostile abuse from union patch-through calls"? I didn't hear anyone announce their union affiliation. Perhaps they were black panthers or ACORN volunteers.
But why spoil a good rant. It doesn't really matter if this harassment is sponsored by unions or not, just so long as the teapeople believe unions are behind the calls. Matt, have you met Jim Holt? He's doing the same kind of conclusion jumping over the violent attack in New Orleans. He could teach you a thing or two about riling up the base without evidence. He has a picture of the victims and posts it here every couple of days to stir up the haters.
Free speech is great !! He has every right to speak his opinion. The paying customer has his / her right not to buy the product. Dixie Chicks taught me that.
The way THE CHOSEN ONE and company are approaching this is kind of scary! Think about it, THE CHOSEN ONE has stayed mostly out of the "It's hate speach" fray while the Obamatons are all beating the "Hater" drum. I think they want something horrible to happen then THE CHOSEN ONE can say "I've tried to stay out of this but now I have to declare martial law to stop all this right wing violence" and we are done! Kiss the Nov. elections goodbye. From D.C. to Paris to Caracas to Moscow (Pre-1989) in 14 months flat!
You might be thinking of Progressive Insurance, whose retired president is Peter Lewis. That guy is just as leftist crazy-nuts as George Soros.
I question the man's sanity. What kind of person makes a call like that? I'm guessing the "unstable" kind.
For the most part, yes GEICO is owned by Warren Buffet. Berkshire Hathaway owns GEICO. Buffett is largest shareholder of Berkshire Hathaway.
That's the Bee's knee's….
Geico is owned by Berkshire Hathaway. Buffet is the chairman of Berkshire Hathaway. Buffet supported Obama in the campaign.
…You are an ignorant, boringly repetitive "hater" – you are a fraud and failure – you are a moron troll….
So dumb, even a caveman won't do it

Nice press release too.http://www.prweb.com/releases/freedomworks/geico/...
It's like an IQ test with publicly available results.
"I called as a private citizen to make a complaint," explains Mr. Douglas. "Racism and homophobia are my Achilles heal, but unfortunately my message included inappropriate words and I am sorry for that."
"Heal?" Try Achilles' heel, genius.
Ask the caveman nex time, he's probably a better speller.
being a current geico customer (not for long) it is sad to see a company ally with the wrong team. they will soon learn a hard lesson. plus their insurance blows anyway have to call the all mighty to get a car dropped

Douglass has just been "alinsky'd" lol
That must really burn the lefties, that their own tactic has been used on them AND that we have more success with it than they do LMAO
Not bad. In one sentence you managed to call me:
ignorant
boring
repetitive
fraud
failure
moron
hater
troll
Feel better now?
Save the Gecko!
I've thought the same thing for quite some time now. That's what the whole issue with the Congressmen crossing the square was about. Trying to incite the tea party people to do violence. It hasn't happened, so they have to manufacture it. Watch yer backs.
You win the paranoid of the day award…
…Much….speaking Truth to Moron is an old-fashioned American right and tradition…good for the soul….
So why isn't the left calling for this guy to apologize to the Special Olympics for using the offensive term "retarded"?
mika, mika, mika, mika…
I've tried to work with you, even helped you with your math homework, and this is the fanx I get? You're back on here, stirring up my folk and whatnot, and I just couldn't be more disappointed in you.
Just kidding. We expect you to act like a numbskull, lol. In fact, we're starting to think it's no act.
Oh voice over boy doesn't have to worry about being out of work long. Obame will make him the car insurance czar!!

No, you haven't gone away yet.
Ring-a-ding-ding-dinki-Do!
And you win the idiot of the day award…
Hmmm so he's admitting that his weaknesses and flaws in character are overindulgences in racism and homophobia.
Better spell "next" correctly if you want to be the list spellchecker…. genius
Douglass is The Left personified – arrogant, rude and hateful. His hateful arrogance has just cost him several jobs.
However he could do voice-overs for Sean Penn when Penn's too busy palling around with Chavez and Castro.
Congratulations Freedom Works!
NGj-Geico is owned by Buffett. And Yes, Geico did pull there advertisements from Becks prograsm(there loss-hard not to notice how there competitors didnt seem to have a problem with our friend Mr Beck). However, even Buffett is a businessman before hes an ideologue. Buffett HAS been critical of Obamapukes overspending and Socialized medicine. Even Buffett realizes he cant do business if his customers have no income, something stupid commies like Obama and the Soviets or Red Chinese still havent gotten thru there thick skulls.
I think like many others that we are being set up for a marshall law encounter, watch your tongue and walk a very strait line and stick to the point ,be civil
Excellent. If you want to live like and idiot, expect to be punished for it.
Caveman are so much MORE INTELLIGENT than the moron Douglass can ever hope to be. Come to think of it, so are dinosaurs.
Finally I feel good about sending Geico a scathing email telling them I am cancelling my insurance because of this man. I also included this website and the the tape that was listed here. We can do a lot as "We the People" by putting the pressure on these companies, especially companies that have a brand and need to protect it. It's all about the money, not about ethics.
Good luck on the pro bono defense, sphincter boy.
That is a chastising reserved by the left for the right.
It only takes 1 to stand up for We The People to get things rolling in the correct direction. We started with Glenn Beck and the Tea parties and Geico has made a stand HURRAY for them. "Maybe" soon the government will realize that We The People want action taken on OUR behalf not theirs!!
Wow! we are powerful…that only took a couple of days….I'm glad that smug douche lost his job…and I'm glad he's ticked off about it too.
Tell him how you feel, if you like..http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/pages/DC-Doug…
Yes, a "grassroots" movement, that takes money from Phillip Morris. Real "grassroots"
great article. I especially like the Big Lebowski quote!!
Now THAT'S insurance reform I can support!!!
wow if they are scared of 'sedition' what will they do when the real revolution begins……
[...] The Geico spokesman left a message on the answering machine of Freedomworks (organization behind the TeaParty). He asked them how many of their members were retarded, and asked them how they will spin the PR when one of their members kills someone. Geico has cut ties with this moron. Click for the full story [...]
mmmm…kinda like our "grassroots" president who took almost $1,000,000 from Goldman-Sachs employees for his election??? Yup…that's real grassroots.
Wow, if thats "speaking truth", its no wonder you guys have sunk so low.
You must really hate reality. Its why sites like BG are so popular.
I guarantee if this guy was doing v/o's for Geico, he is a member of AFTRA.

ROTFLMAO!!!

I'm sure he is. But he was only representing himself and his call was not anonymous. The other calls linked in this story were much more vile and completely anonymous. This author attributed them to unions with nothing more than a suspicion.
D.C. can say what he likes…its a free country, and no one can put him in jail for it…(for now, but watch this Admin REAL close)…
But at least have the stones to accept it if your employer doesn't like it and cans you for it…
Perfect description for Statist Prog Libs…"I say what I want, but I holler like bloody murder if I get a consequence from it that I don't like…"
Liberal talking point.
Blatant lie!
Disparaging statement about the intelligence of posters on this site.
This site is tiny. It is a rare thread that generates 1000 comments here, and most will see no more than a couple hundred. It's not uncommon at HuffPo or Kos to see 4000 posts to a hot topic. Take this story about GEICO. Posted four hours ago and it's generated maybe 80 comments. It just went up on HuffPo and already has over 1700 posts.
Oh, I am so happy. I have been a customer of GEICO over 20 years. I sent them the link to the guy's voice message and told them that I was tired of this kind of hate and slander and although I absolutely love their insurance, I could take my business elsewhere. I also pointed them to the BigGovernment article so that they could see how many policies that guy had lost for them in one day.
I am so glad they did the right thing. Now, ole Douglass can ask his lefty friends for a job.
What a lizard brain. I'll never buy another GEICO product and am increasingly selective what I buy so I don't support marxism or crony capitalism. Support the free market before it is gone.
.
Good for Geico!
Right now I am engaged in some dialogue with Directv about their support for the Color of Works advertising on Glenn Beck. I've been a customer of theirs for 14 years. All I wanted to know is if they really did pledge to support the boycott, or if it was company policy not to advertise on perceived controversial political commentary shows. I feel that if they don't advertise on Beck, they shouldn't on Ohlberdork. All I get is shine on crap when emailing their executive offices; Directv doesn't disclose their advertising decisions blah blah blah. The information I have is that Directv does advertise on Ohlberdork.
Looks like I will have to go to Dish Network.
I emailed Geico about this, awesome!
Good for Geico. They did the right thing.
That's the email response I recvd too – short and sweet. They can't go wrong telling the truth I guess.
Riling up the base without evidence is the modus operandi of most of the right wing media. Facts would debunk your World view.
When regular citizens say "nigger" and use racist imagery to express themselves I think it's proper to call you creeps out.
Just as cute as you thought it was seditious to question Bush.
Your hate is misplaced. You've been led on a leash like a dog to your beliefs by a right wing corporate master who has manipulated the hell out of you.
Don't you find it ironic that a guy who made his money pitching for a private insurance company got fired for being over-the-top angry at people who are against the Gov't taking over private insurance companies?
Good, its settled. Neither The One nor the tea parties are grassroots.
No dumbass, you don't get the money, its for the hobnobbers and politicos that do the bidding of corporate special interests that get the money. You're just used to provide them their elected power.
"real revolution", yeah right. Still waiting. Meanwhile conservatives are getting their asses kicked on the streets. Better hurry up and get this revolution going.
good to know kd, I may be movin' on myself, after about 18 yrs with DTV.
Yeah, for me it is regrettable because I had no complaints with their service or programming. But if they buy into a political game, bowing to pressure groups like Color of Change, then I have to make a stand somewhere.
Fortunately this is America and there are a few options left.
NOW … I'm switching to Geico!
Probably because the conservatives are working and the Huffpo ilk are sitting on their asses… Check the Fox evening news ratings vs. others, tiny…
Put the Gecko in the hospital for a few days — unable to talk — due to fatigue and strained vocal cords. Bring him back later with a new voice, and no one will know the difference.
Save the lizard but eliminate the snake.
LOL it's "sedition" to call out the government when they've trampled all over the Constitution and the rule of law? You want to talk about sedtion, how about just about every member of Congress having voted for a bill they neither understood nor read? Or worse, how about the bills they voted for knowing full well there was no constitutional authority for them? The cranks are the people reacting to peaceful protest.

"I called as a private citizen to make a complaint," explains Mr. Douglas."
I didn't hear Mr. Douglas make a complaint in his voice-mail message. All he did was ask for information:
Quote: "I just need to know what the percentage is of people that are mentally retarded who work for the organization and are members of it."
Quote: "Wondering what your plans are, how to spin it, when one of your members does actually kill somebody."
No complaining there. This is what he actually said. There's something about seeing the words in black and white, isn't there? And yes, I believe the man deserves everything he gets as a result of his actions and words.
